* MeaningfulName: Several of the giants' names are derived from Old Nordic, often reflecting their character. To give a few examples, Kald, the Winterbringer, comes from "kaldr", or "cold"; the beautiful giantess Valfreyja combines the names of the Valkyries and Freyja, the Norse goddess of beauty; shadowy Myrkyr's name means "darkness"; and Aldinn means "ancient" (possibly also a play on Odin, given his status as the giants' leader).

* LeeroyJenkins: Jumps into the Vittra tunnel after her stolen sash, with no plan for getting back out again. Later episodes show that she's grown out of her recklessness.

Added DiffLines:

* JerkassToOne: The Council of Three are mainly condescending towards Hilda, given the latter's impatience with spells.

Added DiffLines:

* EvilCounterpart: While not completely evil, the twin-tailed Marra acts as one towards Hilda. They're both described as weird but while Hilda is more sociable, the twin-tailed Marra is more quiet. They both wear sweaters and a scarf. While Hilda only scares David just to make him braver, the twin-tailed Marra only scares him just for fun. Hilda is also more encouraging while the Marra is more of a big bully. To make this trope more deliberate, Luke Pearson, while designing the Marra, wanted to make her as an evil version of Hilda.

* PutOnABus: They don't appear after Season 1 until the very end of the seires.
