!!Titular Character

[[folder:Alice Liddel]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/00-cop_9233.jpg]]
-->Voiced by: Creator/RieKugimiya (Drama CD and anime only, voiceless in game)

The heroine of the series. Kidnapped by a mysterious {{Bishonen}} man and forced to go DownTheRabbitHole, she realizes that she's TrappedInAnotherWorld - namely, The Country of Hearts. After meeting the (mostly [[CastFullOfPrettyBoys male]]) Roleholders of the country who take a liking to her, she decides maybe it's not so bad after all.
----
%%* BlitheSpirit
* CutenessProximity: She has a thing for cute objects.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Despite Vivaldi's route in the first game being a friendship route, some fans might interpret their relationship as [[LesYay something deeper.]][[spoiler: Ironically, she openly shows her lesbian tendencies in certain optional scenes in Blood's routes of all places, and if Alice doesn't refuse Vivaldi's advances clearly, it becomes a tug-of-war between Blood and Vivaldi for Alice's affections.]] The manga is a lot more explicit about the idea, with Vivaldi commenting that she thinks that even ''she'' may end up "loving" Alice. [[CrazyJealousGuy Peter]] promptly asks her ''not'' to.
* TheFirstCutIsTheDeepest: Alice's breakup with her former boyfriend shook her up so badly, she's still carrying emotional baggage to this day, to the point where she even swore off love.
* ForcefulKiss: Peter forces her to drink a potion this way which traps her in Wonderland. [[spoiler: Though, it's revealed in Bad End 2 of the first game that Alice could have gone back home anytime she wished...]]
* FunnyForeigner: Everyone sees her as this.
* GenreSavvy: Very much so. Not that it does her much good.
* {{The Hero}}ine
* InnocentCohabitation: She lives with Julius in the manga.
* LoveHurts: After her boyfriend left her for Lorina, she swore never to fall in love again.
* {{Meido}}: Her day-to-day outfit resembles one.
* MiddleChildSyndrome: Alice has just become an "adult", but still isn't as graceful as Lorina, seeing as she also has childish manners that, at her age, aren't well seen, contrary to her younger sister.
* MoralityPet: For a ''lot'' of people.
%%* NaiveEverygirl
* PimpedOutDress: During the ball scene. And there are multiple versions, [[https://gs1.wac.edgecastcdn.net/8019B6/data.tumblr.com/f5e2dd6b1dfbbfced37e723d02c8c7be/tumblr_mwuvl0o2o81r2p2wqo1_500.gif one for each territory]].
* TrappedInAnotherWorld: Alice gets kidnapped and thrown into Wonderland. [[spoiler: Subverted when it's revealed in Bad End 2 of the first game that Alice could've left Wonderland anytime she wanted to.]]
* {{Tsundere}}: Alice in the Hoshino manga is a definite Type B for [[spoiler: Blood Dupre]].
** And in Peter's Route, she's a Type A for him. [[StalkerWithACrush With]] [[AbductionIsLove good]] [[ForcefulKiss reasons]] [[CrazyJealousGuy to be one.]]
* UnwantedHarem: One could argue that. She states herself in the manga that she never meant for anyone to fall in love with her.
* VagueAge: The game is never really clear on Alice's exact age, and the official fanbooks listing her as "the player's age" is not helping either. In the games, Alice says Pierce (listed as 16-17 in supplementary materials) is younger than her, so it can be assumed that she is somewhere in her late teens. [[spoiler: At least around the time when her sister was still alive. In actuality, Alice is older than that.]]
[[/folder]]

!!The Castle of Hearts

The Castle of Hearts is where the court of the Country of Hearts resides. The Castle is associated with spring and the suit of, well, hearts. Peter, Vivaldi, and Ace are the Roleholders of note in this area.
----

[[folder:Vivaldi]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/viv_8228.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/YukoKaida

As the Queen of Hearts, Vivaldi is cold and powerful, but [[CutenessProximity weakens when confronted with cute things]] (and [[LesYay Alice)]]. Her power, however, doesn't extend to the Amusement Park or the Hatter's mansion. [[spoiler: She is also Blood's elder sister.]] She's based on the Queen of Hearts from the original story.
----
* AloofBigSister: [[spoiler: To Blood]].
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: Has dark-haired curls and is TheWomanWearingTheQueenlyMask, who defrosts later on.
* ArmorPiercingSlap: [[spoiler: Pulls this on Blood in the manga when he acts like [[BlatantLies he doesn't care that Alice is leaving]].]]
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: [[spoiler: Her and Blood. In public, they act like they're going to stab each other in the back, but they meet in Blood's rose garden to act like siblings away from the public eye]]. It's also implied she does love her husband deep down.
* CoolBigSis: To Alice, who states that she reminds her of Lorina..
* CutenessProximity: No matter how heartless she looks, she ''will'' bend under the influence of cute things.
%%* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
%%* DefrostingIceQueen
* EekAMouse: Vivaldi absolutely hates mice and freaks out at the sight of one — humanoid or not.
* FirstNameBasis: She actually ''asks'' Alice to call her just "Vivaldi".
* GayOption: Famous for being the only female route in Hearts. Though her route is presented as a friendship, some people don't buy it.
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: Her room is filled with them and only select maids ''and'' Alice can enter it.
* TheHighQueen
* LettingHerHairDown: In the second and third games, she can be seen with her hair down.
* OffWithHisHead: Being the Queen of Hearts, she likes to behead people. Ace lampshades this in the manga.
-->'''Ace''': Her Majesty issued an order that ''didn't'' involve a beheading. Never thought I'd see the day.
%%* OjouRinglets
%%* OnlyOneName
* PimpedOutDress: She wears one ''all'' the time.
%%* RequisiteRoyalRegalia
* ShipperOnDeck: In the Heart adaption by Hoshino, she ships Blood/Alice pretty hard. In certain games, she'll do that if Alice is on Blood's route.
* SymbolMotifClothing: All the hearts on her dress, as she's the Queen of Hearts.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only female roleholder in the three games, until the introduction of Crysta Snowpigeon -- and even then, Vivaldi does not appear.
* TheStoic: At first glance, although [[DefrostingIceQueen she'll warm up to you eventually]].
%%* TheWomanWearingTheQueenlyMask
* {{Yandere}}: She apparently tried to get a maid that caught the King of Hearts' eye beheaded, but the King managed to talk her out of it.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Peter White]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pet_375.png]]
-->Voiced by: Creator/KoukiMiyata

The Prime Minister of the country (or at least, that's what he's referred to as), Peter's the reason Alice is stuck in the Country of Hearts in the first place. He is serious about his job, but happens to be [[StalkerWithACrush desperately in love with Alice]], and it seems the feeling is anything but mutual. Based on the White Rabbit, although they have little in common.
----
* AbductionIsLove: Subverted and played straight at the same time. He kidnapped Alice to make her play the game and stay in Wonderland, but he's not kidding when he says it's all for the sake of her happiness.
* {{Animorphism}}: He can morph into his very {{Moe}} bunny form.
* BelievingTheirOwnLies: Peter always says that Alice [[BlatantLies chased him down the rabbit hole, that she drank the Heart medicine out of curiosity, and that him and her are lovers.]]
* {{Bishonen}}: Alice, despite all her hatred towards him, can't deny he's very good-looking.
* CutenessProximity: In the manga, once Peter discovers that Alice loves cute things, he turns into his rabbit form more often. [[ImTakingHerHomeWithMe With predictable results]]. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by Alice herself, who notes that it's the same old annoying Peter, but he's just so [[{{Moe}} gosh darn cute]] as a bunny...
* DoggedNiceGuy: For Alice.
* ForcefulKiss: Drops one on Alice to get her to stay in Wonderland.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: [[spoiler: At the end of the manga, Peter says it's okay that Alice's heart belongs to Blood, as he's happy because she's happy. Besides, her returning to Wonderland just means more chances to win her heart!]]
** [[spoiler:Also in the game. While planning with Nightmare to bring Alice into Wonderland, Nightmare reminds him that Alice could pick any other roleholder, not just him. Peter said it was OK as long as Alice could finally find happiness. But if she picks him, he won't reject her...]]
* LittleBitBeastly: Bunny ears!
%%* {{Megane}}
* RedEyesTakeWarning: [[TruthInTelevision Rabbits do have red eyes.]]
* StalkerWithACrush: Big time.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: He has white hair, and abducted Alice to start the plot.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ace]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ace_4416.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/DaisukeHirakawa

A Knight serving the Palace of Hearts and one of the most competent sword users in the country, Ace is one of the nicest people you'll meet, considering his lighthearted, cheerful disposition. [[spoiler: Just don't think of his CuteAndPsycho tendencies.]] He's a friend of Julius's and helps him retrieve the clocks of people who die. An original character, although fandom suggests he's based on the Knave of Hearts.
----
* AxCrazy: But then again, so is everyone else.
* BadassLongcoat: The former's his military wear, [[spoiler: and the latter's what he wears when he's at his most unstable, along with MaskPower]].
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Ace is easily one of the nicest people in Wonderland when you first see him (manga-wise at least), what with his cheery disposition and willingness to help Alice (even if he does end up getting them lost). [[spoiler: The next time he appears, he's wearing a tattered cloak that has bloodstains all over it, and a mask that makes him look like a serial killer. As it turns out, he's one of the most unstable people in Wonderland, and would kill Alice if it wasn't for her heartbeat.]]
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Ace's constant ability to get lost for extended amounts of time, even indoors, and his odd habit of making a fire and pitching a tent gives you the impression that he's silly and harmless. [[spoiler: That is until you see him kill covered in blood with a smile on his face.]]
* BloodIsTheNewBlack: Although pretty much no one cares for blood-stained clothes, since they will eventually turn clean by themselves, Ace is the character most often represented with blood-covered garments, [[spoiler: especially when he's wearing his Executioner cape]].
* CrazyJealousGuy: His entire route in the games and the official mangas with him as the love interest.
%%* CoolSword
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He's one of the most competent fighters in the kingdom, but you probably can't tell that just by looking at him.
%%* DissonantSerenity
* NeverGetsDrunk: He can hold his liquor ''very'' well.
* NoSenseOfDirection: PlayedForLaughs, as where ever he's headed is ''always'' in the opposite direction of where he's going.
%%* OnlyOneName
* PersonalSpaceInvader: Hell yeah.
* ProfessionalKiller: [[spoiler: It's revealed his "lost adventures" are composed of him killing people Joker and Julius want gone.]]
%%* RedEyesTakeWarning
* StepfordSmiler: Naturally.
* {{Yandere}}: [[spoiler: Play any of his routes in ANY of the games; Heart, Joker, Clover or Diamonds and you will see this. Even in the mangas, this personality trait is present. Clover no Kuni no Alice: Heart no Kishi is one of the most prominent examples.]]
[[/folder]]

!!The Hatter Mansion

TheMafia of Wonderland resides here. The mansion itself is associated with autumn and the suit of spades.
----
[[folder:Blood Dupre]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blo_5270.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/KatsuyukiKonishi

The head of The Country of Heart's equivalent of TheMafia, Blood is cold and ruthless - but his subordinates are just as dangerous as he. He prefers scheming and manipulating things from the shadows. He has the same appearance as Alice's ex-boyfriend, which causes Alice to be more self-concious than usual around him during the early stages of their friendship. In time, Blood's unique personality leaves an impression strong enough on her mind that she starts seeing past that fact. Based on the Mad Hatter from the original story.
----
%%* BadassLongcoat
* BerserkButton: Just try saying anything negative about tea in front of him.
%%* GentlemanSnarker
* GreenEyedMonster: Despite his casual flirting, Blood is quite the jealous man deep down, and wants Alice to himself in his own routes. In the first two games, this is made worse by the insecurity he feels from being constantly compared to Alice's ex. However, if they aren't in a relationship, he is not petty enough to get jealous because of Alice being friends with other guys, and doesn't particularity care about who she is involved with. Comically enough, in certain routes he serves as a wingman to Alice who gives good, albeit perverted advice about her love problems. Hoshino's manga adaption takes his jealousy to "extreme" levels, and pushes him right into CrazyJealousGuy territory.
* HandsomeLech: Blood is undoubtedly one of the most sexual characters in the series, and he comes on to Alice pretty often and pretty hard (to the point it has become a way of him pulling mischievous pranks on Alice even when they don’t have any romance going on). His speech is often heavily laced with innuendo, and he loves to tease and flirt until he can get Alice flustered. Being handsome, rich and powerful means Blood never lacks attention from females, and is quite aware and appreciative of it, but at the same time, he is snobbish enough to ignore most of his fangirls unless he finds someone 'interesting'.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Elliot.
* IdenticalStranger: He looks identical to Alice's ex-boyfriend who broke her heart. [[spoiler: It was revealed in the "Truth end" of the first game that Blood actually does NOT have the same face as Alice's previous lover, and Nightmare manipulated Alice's memories to make her believe that he does (which implies that the real reason Alice's lover is shown faceless in her memories is because he does not look the same). Vivaldi explains in Blood's best end of Joker no kuni no Alice that Nightmare chose Blood for this role because Blood was the only person to have defeated Joker TWICE, and Nightmare expected Joker to interfere with Alice eventually.]].
* {{Jerkass}}: Much to the displeasure of original game fans, this applies strongly to the most well-known manga adaption by Hoshino, where[[spoiler: Blood has attempted to strangle Alice, eventually started acting like a whiny brat, and then pointed his gun at her for no reason]]. Such extreme behavior strongly deviates from his more calculating and cool-headed persona established in the games and every other manga.
* NiceHat: His trademark hat and bow tie are based on the original Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter; however, there are no roses or feathers on the original Mad Hatter's hat.
%%* OfficerAndAGentleman
* SiblingRivalry: [[spoiler: With Vivaldi when Alice is concerned]].
* SpotOfTea: He's a veeeeeery passionate connoisseur of tea. The type of tea that Blood most enjoys is Flowery Orange Pekoe; any mention of it results in several minutes of him obsessing over it.
%%* TallDarkAndHandsome
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Elliot March]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elli_3481.png]]
->Voiced by: Tsuguo Mogami

Blood's right hand man, Elliot is generally cheerful and easygoing - but then again, [[CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass he's not Blood's right hand man for nothing]]. Also, he's [[strike: definitely not a hare]] the March Hare of this world.
----
* BerserkButton: Elliot hates carrots! And he's definitely not a rabbit!
%%* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass
* HairTriggerTemper: At least when it comes to Ace. Admittedly, Ace seems to take notice of this and pisses Elliot off on purpose to start a fight.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Blood. [[spoiler: Apparently, the reason he's so attached to Blood is because the latter rescued him after he destroyed his best friend's clock and was sentenced to ninety thousand turns in jail.]]
* RightHandHottie: To Blood.
%%* ScarfOfAsskicking
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: He loves carrot-flavored dishes, despite insisting that he detests 'carrot' itself, and that carrot dishes are totally different from raw carrots! Okay, Elliot, whatever you say....
* UndyingLoyalty: To Blood Dupree, who saved him after he destroyed his friend's clock and was sentenced to jail.
* UnusualEars: He has long hare ears that happen to be very sensitive.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dee_dum_3858.png]]
[[caption-width:350:Left: Dum; Right: Dee]]
->Voiced by: Creator/JunFukuyama

Twin guards at the Hatter's Mansion, who are cute little boys in the first game, and [[HeIsAllGrownUp adults]] in the second and third. They call Alice names like "Lady" and "Big sister," and they can be ''very'' possessive. Elliot thinks they're annoying.
----
* AnAxeToGrind: Both of them prefer axes over guns.
* CreepyTwins: They aren't called "[[RedBaron The Bloody Twins]]" for nothing.
* CuteAndPsycho: They're kids who happen to really like ax murdering people.
* TheGlomp: To Alice. Unfortunately for her, they have a tendency to hold axes while doing it.
* IdenticalTwinIDTag: The color of their clothes.
%%* {{Keet}}s
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: Tweedle Dee in the sequels.
%%* NiceHat
* {{Polyamory}}: Both of them like Alice, and are strongly hinted to have no problem with "sharing".
* {{The Slacker}}s: Why Elliot hates them so much.
* SingleMindedTwins: On occasion.
* TricksterTwins: Although their tricks can be deadly or even suggestive.
* TwinSwitch: They often engage in this when in their child forms, but in their adult forms, Dee wears his hair in a ponytail and Dum has short hair, making them easy to tell apart. That didn't stop them from wearing wigs to fool Alice in an official anthology manga, however.
* TwinThreesomeFantasy: Their route strongly hints at this, as does [[http://www.zerochan.net/1450650 an official dakimakura design]], which shows them cuddling together and looking at the viewer expectantly (as if asking you to join them).
[[/folder]]

!!The Amusement Park

Owned by Gowland, the Park is one of the four major areas of the game. It's associated with summer and the suit of diamonds.
----

[[folder:Mary Gowland]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gow_9962.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/KenyuHoriuchi

The owner of the Amusement Park. Appearance-wise, he's one of the oldest of the cast, but that doesn't stop his lighthearted nature. He immediately takes a liking to Alice after their first meeting.
----
* AmusementPark: Owns the place.
* BerserkButton: Don't be talking smack about his first name.
%%* BigOlEyebrows
* {{Biseinen}}: Seems to be a few years older than the rest of the cast.
* ElegantClassicalMusician: Subverted. ''Nobody'' [[BrownNote wants him to play his violin]]. At ''all''.
* EmbarrassingFirstName: He dislikes his first name immensely, and hates Blood's guts for telling the whole country what it is. In case you were wondering, it's [[GenderBlenderName Mary]].
* GenderBlenderName: Come on, the guy can't help it if his name is ''Mary''.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: Or rather, Long Haired Pretty Man.
%%* {{Megane}}
* MoodSwinger: As a parody of The Duchess.
%%* NiceGuy
%%* PermaStubble
* PunnyName: In Japanese, his surname is pronounced as "Gorand". Get it? Mary Go''rand''. ''[[DontExplainTheJoke Merry-Go-Round]]''. Heh.
* SuckinessIsPainful: His violin playing is so terrible, it gives Alice a headache and makes her dizzy, to the point where she uses his first name to get him to stop playing. The Twins flinch in horror, and Boris actually pleads with him to "spare" him.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Boris Airay]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bor_580.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/NoriakiSugiyama

The series' resident [[CatGirl cat boy]], Boris is lighthearted and blithe - but unlike Ace, it's anything but a facade (although his attitude towards [[DeathIsCheap death]] leaves something to be desired.) He is on good terms with the twins despite them being from opposing factions, mainly because despite living in the Amusement Park, he isn't really involved in the territory wars. He's the equivalent of the Cheshire Cat.
----
* AnythingButThat: He can't stand Gowland's horrific violin playing.
--> '''Boris''': Spare me! Please!
* BareYourMidriff: In his normal outfit. It also shows off his bellybutton ring.
* TheBully: Prior to ''Heart no Kuni'', Boris bullied Pierce continually and even tried to ''eat'' him many times. After Boris started ganging up on him with the help of Dee and Dum, this eventually caused the poor guy to ''flee the country''. When Boris meets Pierce again after the country moved to Clover, he immediately starts going back to bullying him again.
* CatGirl: One glance at him will tell you he's this.
* CatSmile: Naturally because he is one. He smiles like this when Alice calls Mary Gowland by [[EmbarrassingFirstName his first name.]]
* ChainedByFashion: Also has a lot of piercings.
* CornerOfWoe: Visits it after Alice says his cat ears annoy her.
* GunNut: In the purest form. His whole room is full of firearms, and he's even knowledgeable about guns from Alice's world.
* NiceGuy: As nice as the world he lives in allows, anyway. He seems to be one of the most kind people in Wonderland, despite his attitude toward [[DeathIsCheap death.]]
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Can be this towards Alice by frequently hugging and licking her on the face. Apparently that's natural because he's a cat.
* PeekABangs: Although he's one of the nicest people around.
* PetTheDog: Boris is usually an unrelenting bully to Pierce, but in Clover, Boris recognizes how much courage it took for Pierce to come to ''him'', of all people, for help to save Alice despite being terrified of him. Boris praises him for it, which Pierce seems to take to heart. Boris goes right back to bullying him later, though.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: His is a giant, fluffy pink-striped boa, reminiscent of the pattern of Disney's Cheshire Cat. He says the boa is "part of his identity."
* {{Tsundere}}: If he and Alice are in a relationship and he thinks she's favoring other guys, he'll start avoiding her, sulking about it, and acting cold to her when he does see her.
--> '''Boris''': I wonder if Alice will come? ...Not that I care!
* VerbalTic: He lives up to his identity as a cat, and occasionally adds "Nya-" to phrases.
* VitriolicBestBuds: His relationship with Gowland could fall under this.
* {{Zipperiffic}}: He has 3 separate zippers on his pants, and two on the lower part of his shirt that don't seem to have any function other than showing [[BareYourMidriff more of his midriff.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Pierce Villiers]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/003-cop_9000.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Souichiro Hoshi

The Dormouse of the series, he's a kind boy who [[TheInsomniac really, really just wants to sleep]]. It's for this reason he ''adores'' Nightmare, as the resident incubus helps him sleep. It seems [[LetsGetDangerous he was once the undertaker for the Hatter family]], but left due to Dum and Dee's teasing. Boris (him being a cat and all) was another major reason in his decision to leave for Cloverland. In ''Joker'', though, he's moved into the Amusement Park, and they seem to be ''trying'' to get along.
----
* AnimalMotifs: A dormouse, and you were wondering where the dormouse was in the first game.
* ButtMonkey: Just about the whole cast mistreats Pierce, though most of it comes from Boris and the twins. This is partly due to the fact that [[FantasticRacism he's a mouse]]. And...this is usually PlayedForLaughs. Heck, even the scenes where Boris chases him with a fork and knife are intended to be just for kicks and giggles.
* CleanupCrew: His job is to dispose of the dead bodies for the Hatter family.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Don't let that cute face and [[TheDitz personality]] fool you. He was an undertaker for the Hatters for a reason.
* IAmNotWeasel: He gets mistaken for one by Alice in the prologue of ''Clover no Kuni no Alice''.
* MustHaveCaffeine: Bucket loads of it. He's so afraid of being eaten by Boris in his sleep that he drinks coffee in order to keep himself awake.
* MulticoloredHair: His red hair has a blond streak.
%%* NiceHat
%%* TheDitz
%%* TheInsomniac
* UnusualEars: He has a pair of mouse ears and a tail.

!!The Clock Tower

The Clock Tower is the only neutral area in the entire country, and as such, not subjected to the messy territorial disputes. Julius, Gray, and Nightmare reside here (as does Alice in the manga). It's associated with green and the suit of clover.
----

[[folder:Julius Monrey]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jul_6516.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/TakehitoKoyasu

The owner of the Clock Tower, the only neutral place in the whole country, what with the other three areas constantly battling for territory and all. Julius is in charge of repairing people's clocks - AsYouKnow, broken clocks (the stand in for hearts) in Heartland mean death. As such, considering everyone thinks DeathIsCheap, Julius [[{{Workaholic}} wears himself thin]] trying to keep up with it all. Nightmare likes hanging around him, and Ace helps him out by bringing him broken clocks.

Speculation has it that he's the story's stand-in for Father Time.
----

* NewGamePlus: To get his route in the game, you have to beat Ace's first.

[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nigh_7439.png]]

A sickly incubus who lives with Julius, Nightmare appears in Alice's dreams. If Peter was the one who wanted her in Wonderland, Nightmare was the one who did the dirty work. Probably based on the Caterpillar in the original story.
----
* AfraidOfNeedles: He hates doctors and hospitals, and just lives with his illness because he doesn't want to be treated.
* DarkIsNotEvil: His name is Nightmare and he wears black, but he's a nice, though mysterious guy.
%%* EyePatchOfPower
* HornyDevils: He's '''supposed''' to be one, incubus and all, [[{{Irony}} but he's actually the most innocent potential suitor.]]

* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Played with; he's a nightmare, but not a bad guy.

A former assassin who works for Nightmare as his right-hand man. Unfortunately, due to [[IllBoy Nightmare's condition]], he ends up being like a nanny more than anything. Based on The Lizard in the original story.
----
* AnimalMotifs: Lizards.
* KnifeNut: His WeaponOfChoice.
* LethalChef: PlayedForLaughs. The guy can't draw, either.
* LetsGetDangerous: He might look like a FriendToAllLivingThings NiceGuy, but don't forget he was a former assassin. As a result, he and Ace end up sparring a lot, partly because Ace doesn't like him, and partly because he's the only one in the whole country who can match him in skill.
* PowerTattoo: He has a lizard tattoo on his neck - which can ''come to life''. [[PowerPerversionPotential He can also feel anything you do to it.]]
%%* ProfessionalKiller

[[folder:Joker]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jok_7685.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/AkiraIshida

Joker is in charge of the prison realm, and unfortunately he has a nasty SplitPersonality. There are two Jokers within the story - The White Joker, your typical, modest NiceGuy, and the Black Joker, who's an all-out asshole. [[WalkingSpoiler Or so it seems]]. [[spoiler: They are 'officials', and their role is to maintain order in Wonderland.]]

[[folder:Blood Dupre]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blo_5270.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/KatsuyukiKonishi

* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Elliot.

----

After Boris started ganging up on him with the help of Dee and Dum, this eventually caused the poor guy to ''flee the country''. When Boris meets Pierce again after the country moved to Clover, he immediately starts going back to bullying him again.
* CatGirl: One glance at him will tell you he's this.
* CatSmile: Naturally because he is one. He smiles like this when Alice calls Mary Gowland by [[EmbarrassingFirstName his first name.]]

->Voiced by: Creator/TakehitoKoyasu

----
%%* DeadpanSnarker
* {{Hikikomori}}: He's introduced as a hermit who spends all his time in the tower.
* InnocentCohabitation: Alice lives with him in the manga adaption by Hoshino.
%%* LongHairedPrettyBoy
%%* MustHaveCaffeine
* NewGamePlus: To get his route in the game, you have to beat Ace's first.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Although you really can't blame him, considering his line of work.
* SwissArmyWeapon: His WeaponOfChoice is a wrench that turns into a gun.
%%* TheWatchmaker
%%* {{Tsundere}}
* {{Workaholic}}: Considering that everyone thinks DeathIsCheap, it falls to Julius to repair everybody's broken clocks. Alice worries about him, considering he sometimes ForgetsToEat.

[[folder:Nightmare Gottschalk]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nigh_7439.png]]

->Voiced by: Creator/TomokazuSugita

%% * MeaningfulName: Nightmare.
* NewGamePlus: To get his good end in the game, you have to go through Julius's route and answer Julius's questions wrong and Nightmare's right.
* IncurableCoughOfDeath: At one point, he coughs up blood because he's ''happy''.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Played with; he's a nightmare, but not a bad guy.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Gray Ringmarc]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/003-copy_5816.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/KazuyaNakai

A former assassin who works for Nightmare as his right-hand man. Unfortunately, due to [[IllBoy Nightmare's condition]], he ends up being like a nanny more than anything. Based on The Lizard in the original story.
----
* AnimalMotifs: Lizards.
* KnifeNut: His WeaponOfChoice.
%%* TheStoic
%%* TallDarkAndHandsome
* {{Workaholic}}: The fact that he frequently acts the role of nanny to Nightmare frustrates him to no end.

!!The Circus & Prison Realm

[[folder:Joker]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jok_7685.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/AkiraIshida

----
* AntiVillain: [[spoiler:While he's the closest thing the series has to a villain, he's just doing his job.]]
* AttentionWhore: White will often do nasty things to others either to get attention, or [[ItAmusedMe for his entertainment.]]
* BlackAndWhiteMorality: Proper, [[spoiler:though only initially. See DarkIsNotEvil and LightIsNotGood below.]]
* TheBully: While both of them are, Black is the most obvious.
* CircusOfFear: [[spoiler: ALL of the workers there are actually prisoners granted temporary amnesty.]]
* ClapYourHandsIfYouBelieve: [[spoiler:Everyone has their own Joker, but Joker needs to be acknowledged, whether consciously or subconsciously, to be "a person's Joker."]]
* DarkIsNotEvil: While Black Joker is a Jerkass, all of his lies usually are in Alice's favor, and he can sometimes show a more pleasant side towards her, being more of a {{Tsundere}} than a flat-out Jerkass.
* DeathIsCheap: [[spoiler:They can be killed repeatedly, but they won't disappear. It's something Alice has to do herself.]]
* DissonantSerenity: White Joker.
* DissonantLaughter: White Joker does this in the BigDamnMovie after [[spoiler: Vivaldi shoots him]].
* GratuitousEnglish: White Joker during circus shows.
--> '''W.Joker:''' [[LargeHam Ladies and gentlemen!]]
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: They're lonely, both thanks to their hated role and their unapproachable personalities.
* LightIsNotGood: White Joker is polite and fun-loving, but has shown many times that he's more dangerous than Black Joker, bearing a more manipulative and possessive side akin to a {{Yandere}}.
* ManipulativeBastard: Both of them.
* TheManyDeathsOfYou: [[spoiler:Unlike the other role holders, they can't be killed permanently.]]
* NotSoDifferent: White Joker says this about himself and Peter White. Peter agrees.
%%* OnlyOneName
* {{Sadist}}: Black Joker, although...
* SharingABody: While each of them has their own body, they can do this.
* SoftSpokenSadist: White Joker.
* {{Tsundere}}: Black Joker.
* {{Yandere}}: White Joker.

!!The Castle of Diamonds

[[folder:Crysta Snowpigeon]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cry_7658.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/SanaeKobayashi

The Queen of the Country of Diamonds whose peaceful appearance contrasts with her malicious personality. She can appear as a young child or a beautiful young woman.
----
* BitchInSheepsClothing: She appears pure and immaculate, but is rash, immature, and wants to freeze our heroine to add to her collection.
* HumanPopsicle: She has a collection of these (which includes the King of Diamonds), and wants to add Alice and Nightmare to her collection as well.
* AnIcePerson: Possesses ice powers.
* LonelyRichKid: She has abandonment issues, and turns people into {{human popsicle}}s when she fears they're going to leave her.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: To Vivaldi, as the childish Queen with a fondness for Alice.

[[folder:Sidney Black]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/syd_8046.png]]
->Voiced by: Toriumi Kousuke

The Black Rabbit, who serves as prime minister to the Country of Diamonds, much like Peter does to the Country of Hearts. Like Peter, he is high-strung and takes his job very seriously. Unlike Peter, he hates Alice and maintains a very professional demeanor with her.
----
* BerserkButton: Never imply that he's anything like Peter White.

!!The Cemetery & Art Museum

[[folder:Jericho Bermuda]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jer_2772.png]]
->Voiced by: Koyama Rikiya

The Gravekeeper. He's part of a mafia family that is frequently in dispute with the Dupres. Based on the Dodo from the original story.
----
* AnimalMotifs: Dodo birds. Invoked uniquely in that he's heavily associated with death (being a gravekeeper, working in a cemetery, his InSeriesNickname below, etc.) which makes the motif work even better, as dodos are heavily associated with [[KillEmAll extinction]].
* InSeriesNickname: "The Man Already Dead."
[[/folder]]

!Other Characters

[[folder:Lorina Liddell]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lori_8876.png]]
->Voiced by: Mika Kanda

Alice's older sister, whom she remembers fondly.

%%* AlliterativeName
* CoolBigSis: To Alice, literally and figuratively.
%%* DeadAllAlong
%%* GorgeousPeriodDress
%%* GracefulLadiesLikePurple
%%* NiceHat
%%* OjouRinglets
* PromotedToParent: Since their father works a lot, Lorina is the one who must go to Alice's school interviews.
* ProperLady: From what we see of her, she seems to fit this very well.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Is it Rolina or Lorina? QuinRose once listed her name as "Rolina" on the official movie site, but they, along with official translations, later spell her name as the latter.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Alice states that Lorina resemblances their deceased mother.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Alice's First Boyfriend]]

ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin - He was Alice's first boyfriend who ended up leaving her for her sister. Naturally, when Blood ends up looking exactly like him, Alice isn't happy about it.
----
* IdenticalStranger: He looks exactly like Blood. [[spoiler: Actually a lie, see above]].
* LoveHurts: It's implied their breakup broke Alice pretty bad.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: Although [[TheFaceless we never actually see his face]], [[IdenticalStranger we do know what he looks like]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The King of Hearts]]
[[quoteright:180:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/king_hnkna_54.png]]

Again, ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: He's Vivaldi's husband, but happens to be weak and ineffectual compared to his powerful, domineering wife.
----
* AgeLift: In-universe: in ''Heart'' he's an old man, but in ''Clover'' he's a younger, middle aged man. Justified as the positions are "roles," and that the Roleholder for him might have changed in-between games.
* TheGoodKing: Same as the king of Hearts he's based off of, he pardons as many persons he can when his wife orders them beheaded.
%%* HenpeckedHusband
%%* RequisiteRoyalRegalia
* SexlessMarriage: For there's no better way to call his relationship with Vivaldi. Though king and queen, they ''aren't'' married, and their positions are just roles; besides, Vivaldi has a room just for her.
