A peaceful orange monkey who wears a dark orange Buddhist robe and large prayer beads. Buddhist Monkey is, [[MeaningfulName as his name suggests]], a monkey who practices Buddhism and is normally nonviolent. However, when attacked by Generic Tree Ninjas and others sent from a [[EvilOverlord mysterious, dark overlord]], he sheds his passive outer nature and call upon his extensive martial arts training to kill his enemies. A flashback focused on his training by [[OldMaster Sensei Orangutan]], who had died sometime between the flashback and the series. He is the only main recurring character (even if he isn't apart of the main cast) to not have died yet (although the fact he's only appeared in person in ''Ka-pow!!'' helps immensely). He stars in ''[[SpinOff Ka-pow!]]'' alongside Flippy and Splendid.

* BlowingARaspberry: One piece of promo art has him doing one to the audience.
* TheBully: Kenn Navarro stated that Truffles was supposed to be a bully-type character.
* TheCameo: Ever since he lost Vote or Die to Lammy & Mr. Pickles, Truffles could only appear through making small cameos in the background of episodes. Ironically, however, he makes more appearances than Lammy & Mr. Pickles.
* DeathByCameo: Occasionally he makes his cameo as a dead body.
* DemotedToExtra: Only has non-speaking cameos.
* FlatCharacter: Mostly due to the fact that he will never have his own episode.
* KilledOffscreen: How all of his deaths occur due to being a cameo character.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Like Lumpy and Sniffles, he lacks the common nose style of most characters. While distinctly heart-shaped, it is bigger, has visible nostrils, and is more purplish in color. * AxCrazy: The ColdBloodedTorture they put Sniffles through (especially in "Tongue in Cheek") isn't something those who are sound of mind would do.

* ColdBloodedTorture: They inflict this on Sniffles whenever he tries to eat them in longer, more complex and painful ways then even Fliqpy.

* KarmaHoudini: The closest thing they ever got to a comeuppance was the baby ant catching Sniffles' cold at the end of "Suck It Up". However, their prehistoric ancestors were eaten by Sniffles and his ancestor.
* MamaBear: In "A Hard Act to Swallow", the mother ant attacks and goes inside Sniffles to rescue her youngest offspring, who was eaten at the beginning of the episode.
* PutOnABus: Since "Tongue in Cheek", they have made no further appearances in the show.

* VagueAge: Their overall ages seem to vary depending on the episode, except for Cub who is a baby, and Pop, Flippy, and Lumpy who are obviously adults. In some episodes, they go to school, but in others, they are seen driving cars and living alone.

A cute yellow rabbit who has pink cheeks and is always wearing pink bunny slippers. Cuddles is the main character of the series more so than anyone else, and is one of the four "original" Tree Friends. Despite his cute nature, he has been shown to be a bit of a rebellious Tree Friend who enjoys skateboarding, snowball fights, and daredevil acts. He was the second Tree Friend created (Shifty was the first Tree Friend created), appears in most advertisements, and to date holds the highest death count in the series, alongside Lumpy.

* AndIMustScream: "Can't Stop Coffin'" just can't give poor Cuddles a break. His screaming inside of the titular coffin is drowned out by multitudes of distractions and loud noises. This leads to him clawing his fingers to the bone trying to scratch his way out, almost burning to death before being "saved" by water entering the coffin and proceeding to almost ''drown'' him, to being saved from that by a ''car breaking through the coffin and having one of its wheels grind down on his face'', all while being unable to do anything about it. This doesn't even kill him, as at the very end of the episode he tries to crawl away from the coffin after it opens, moaning in pain before the aforementioned car ends up crushing him to death.
* BigGuyLittleGuy: He's often paired with Lumpy, more so than any other character, and their size differences are very noticeable.
* BlushSticker: They are always seen on his face.
* BullyingADragon: Obviously, Cuddles did not heed the line "[[Advertising/DumbWaysToDie Poke a stick at a grizzly bear]]" when he poked a stick at a rhino and later a baboon in ''From A to Zoo''.

A friendly pink chipmunk who wears a red hair bow. Giggles is one of the four "original" Tree Friends and is most often played as a girly girl, along with Petunia (with whom she is best friends). She also cares strongly for the environment, and will lose her cute nature when she sees someone littering or polluting. Despite being the one most often paired with other Tree Friends for Valentine's Day episodes, she and Cuddles are seen as the "default pairing" of the series.

* AfraidOfBlood: A RunningGag on the show is how often Giggles gets splattered by blood. This is usually followed up by her screaming in terror.
* ArtisticLicenseBiology: She's a [[InexplicablyTailless tailless chipmunk]][[note]]Kenn Navarro confirmed Giggles actually does have a tail, but it isn't visible because it's very small.[[/note]].

An [[ButtMonkey unlucky]] purple beaver named for his [[MeaningfulName large, gapped buckteeth]]. Toothy is one of the four "original" Tree Friends and is most often played as the everyman. The creators of the show feel he doesn't have enough of a personality, and plan to bring him out of his shell in later episodes. His trademark injuries have to do with his eyes, mostly as shout outs to his most famous episode, "Eye Candy".

* AssShove: Gets the seat post of his bicycle impaled in his butt in "Break the Cycle".
* BreakTheCutie: That's probably the point of his character. His misery, combined with his cute appearance, provides one of the bigger example of the show.
* ButtMonkey: Most of the time, thanks to his many painful eye injuries and low survival rate.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Toothy was more generic and smarter than his more impulsive, work-dedicated, cowardly, and mischievous portrayal in later seasons.
* ChildishToothGap: Is the only character with a gap between his teeth, a feature even Handy is in deficiency of.

* DivergentCharacterEvolution: The creators eventually made do with their statement and expanded his character in the later half of the series. He is shown to have interests in gardening and handy work as seen in "An Inconvenient Toothy" and "Brake the Cycle" and can be rather mischevious (though not to the same level as other characters) such as when he kept throwing snowballs at Giggles during her dates in "Cold-Hearted".
* TheEveryman: Has barely any character traits besides his [[ButtMonkey haplessness]]. Made apparent by his roles being very inconsequential in most episodes.
* EyeScream: A RunningGag in the show has Toothy constantly suffering from eye injuries.
** Most famously in "[[Recap/HTFEyeCandy Eye Candy]]", where he accidentally jams a lollipop into his eye socket.

A dumb blue moose whose lack of common sense often lands himself and others into trouble while driving the plot for many episodes. Lumpy is one of the four "original" Tree Friends and to date has the official highest kill count and starring count in the series. Despite his stupidity, he often holds high ranking jobs (such as a doctor), and is sometimes placed with the care of the smaller Tree Friends. He shows signs of greed as well, as visited in several episodes.

* ActionSurvivor: You'd be surprised on how many risky situations Lumpy managed to survive. For example, he survived the arctic tundra in "Snow Place to Go" and managed to (off-screen) find civilization again. In "Remains to Be Seen", he gets through a zombie epidemic and a zombie Fliqpy encounter. In "By the Seat of Your Pants" he manages to kill Fliqpy. In "See You Later, Elevator" he navigates his way through a burning building, twice. And in "Read 'em and Weep", he's capable of subduing the demon taking control of Cub (pus it's heavily implied that Lumpy has much better control over the demon when he gets possessed).
* AdultsAreUseless: Lumpy is one of the few characters who's never portrayed as a child when the plot requires it, but that doesn't make him any more competent or responsible.
* AnimalsHateHim: You won’t believe how many times Lumpy has gotten mauled or killed by an animal. He has been killed by dogs, a grizzly bear, vultures, a snapping turtle, ducks, a baboon, and a flock of birds.

* BornLucky: DependingOnTheWriter. Lumpy is somehow both this ''and'' BornUnlucky. He sometimes survives deadly situations or even become the SoleSurvivor of the episode through sheer luck -- other times he ends up having some of the absolute ''worst'' injuries and deaths the show has to offer.
* ButtMonkey: Lumpy's deaths are slower and more painful than others due to his strength and size. And while he has a high survival rate, he shares the highest amount of deaths with Cuddles. In addition, even when he survives an episode, the moments where he doesn't suffer at least one bloody, siginificant, or painful injury in an episode is very rare.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Despite being a total LethalKlutz and TheDitz, he can actually do a relatively competent job at it whenever he has an occupation.

* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Along with Sniffles, he suffers some of the worst deaths. "Just Desert" has his antlers get sliced off, his mouth bloody from having sand stuffed into it, his body torn apart by vultures, and finally disintegrated to bones from a dust devil.

** His personality. He's either a NiceGuy, a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, a {{Jerkass}}, or even a VillainProtagonist.
** How intelligent he is. Lumpy might show a smidgen of common sense, be dumber than a door nail, or even ''own'' the SmartBall in really rare cases.
** Lumpy's portrayal as a character who is just as capable as dying or attaining injuries. Some episodes would have him survive dangerous situations, while others would make him suffer for most of the episode.
* DirtyCoward: In "Wingin' It", Lumpy uses many electronic devices in a passenger jet in flight, disrupting its navigational systems. When the plane starts to malfunction, Lumpy kicks out the plane's door, sucking several characters to their inevitable deaths, and takes ''all'' of the parachutes for himself, forgetting to properly put on even one.
* TheDitz: Lumpy's stupidity is the driving force behind the plots of many episodes.

* GeniusDitz: Despite being the dumbest Happy Tree Friend in the show, he also ironically displays the most common sense. He actually has good planning skills, can perform a job competently when he needs to, and in ''very'' rare instances, be the OnlySaneMan of a situation when all the other Tree Friends prove to be bigger [[TheDitz fools]] than him.
** He's one of the few characters to be aware of The Mole's blindness and Flippy's PTSD. He is also the only one to actively do something about it. He gave The Mole a seeing-eye dog and taught Flippy solid coping methods for his episodes, which only stopped working because of serious contrivances that pushed them to their limit.
** Despite having the highest kill count in the series due to his [[LethallyStupid lethal stupiditiy]] he is routinely shown to be rather competent in jobs that involve health. Jobs where he was a doctor, surgeon, an optometrist, and even a ''therapist'' show that he is not always ''that'' dumb.
** In the episode "In Over Your Hedge," he made a motor-powered hedge trimmer in less than a minute.
* GentleGiant: The tallest Tree Friend and usually pretty kind.
* {{Greed}}: Lumpy has been this on a few occasions, especially in We're Scrooged.
* TheHero: He plays this role more often than any other character, managing to actually save the day without getting himself killed and creating some of the show's surprisingly wholesome endings.
* HeroicSacrifice: In "[[Recap/HTFBloodDonor Blood Donor]]", where he donates all of his blood to Giggles, saving her from flatlining at the hospital -- [[TheyKilledKennyAgain at the cost of his own life]].

* JackassGenie: Unintentionally in "As You Wish", wherein he was a genie, but his attempts at granting wishes killed everyone.
* JackOfAllTrades: This dimwitted moose has a lot of occupations and managed to achieve many things.
* JerkassToOne: While everyone of the protagonists has been a fallen victim to Lumpy's villainous portrayals, Mime appears to be a casualty of Lumpy's schemes more often. Same with Toothy, as the two would share some sort of rivarly, despite the two Tree Friends being on friendly terms with each other.
* KarmicDeath: A large portion of Lumpy's deaths relate to him doing something thoughtless, usually while on the job.
** In "Concrete Solution", Lumpy hides the fact he accidentally killed Handy by hiding him in the cement they were pouring. Later he's crushed by the block of cement with Handy's corpse pressed inside it.
* KindheartedSimpleton: Whenever he's not an antagonist or a LethalKlutz, he's kind-hearted and has on several occasions his life on the line to help others.
* TheKlutz: Lumpy's clumsiness is a defining trait of his.

* LifeOrLimbDecision: In "Out on a Limb", he is forced to cut his leg off with a spoon. Unfortunately for him, he cuts off the wrong leg, so he has to do it all over again.
* LiteralGenie: In "As You Wish", where he plays a genie in a (table) lamp. His wishes cause grave injuries or death to the other characters.
* MadeOfIron: Despite being the most unintelligent Tree Friend in the cast, he is the one who survives the most -- a more common occurrence is [[LethallyStupid "Too Dumb For Those Around Him To Live"]]. It seems to have a reason -- he is the tallest and probably strongest of the cast excluding Splendid, so in the times he doesn't die immediately, he gets injured. In the TV season, he has survived falling off a highway overpass onto the road below and then getting run over by Lifty and Shifty's van ("Concrete Solution"), and getting hit head-on by a truck and being entangled in a bicycle ("A Change of Heart").

He looks the most like the animal he is compared to the other Tree Friends. He is also one of the few characters (along with Sniffles) who does not have a heart-shaped nose.
* OddFriendship: With [[{{Pirate}} Russell]] the sea otter, mostly in the earlier seasons. Shown in "Sea What I Found", where he and Russell go fishing and later treasure hunting together, in "Get Whale Soon", where they both get stranded inside a whale and where Lumpy's death was [[SanitySlippage enough to push Russell over the edge]], and "In a Jam", where they make a band along with Handy and when Russell dies, Cuddles is made to be his replacement due to Cuddles' lost eye reminding Lumpy of Russell.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: He plays the [[VillainProtagonist villain]] in "We're Scrooged!", killing Toothy in order to sell his body parts for profit. In the TV episode "Dunce Upon a Time", which is a WholePlotReference to ''Literature/JackAndTheBeanstalk'', Lumpy takes on the role of the lumbering giant of the castle in the sky, killing the other characters to make his meal and when they try to escape.
** There are times when Lumpy has [[SmartBall bursts of intelligence]], which goes against his usual TheDitz portrayals.
*** In "Doggone It", he was the only one to realize the reason for [[KillerRabbit Whistle's]] attacks, even if it took a while for him to figure it out).

*** So far he is the only one to be aware of what causes Flippy's PTSD, since in "Without a Hitch" and "Random Acts of Silence", several characters who appear to be aware of Flippy's PTSD thought that he could flip out randomly, while in "Double Whammy Part 1" Lumpy figured out the cause of his problem and attempted to cure it.

A sweet but mysophobic blue skunk who wears a flower on her head and a pine tree car freshener around her neck. Petunia suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and is quite a neat freak. She's best friends with Giggles and they can be seen hanging out with each other, having tea parties, playing with dolls, etc. She tends to suffer some of the messier deaths in the series, like having her face pressed to a grill or getting pulled through a sink. For a long time, she was the only character not to have killed another Tree Friend - until she started a cooking fire in "Who's to Flame?"

* AsideGlance: She looks at the camera angrily after failing to grab a bowling ball in "I Nub You", much like her boyfriend Handy often does.
* BringMyBrownPants: Because of a cherry drink, she completely lets loose when she and Lumpy [[OhCrap realize that the bus they were in was heading towards a cliff]] in "Happy Trails Part 1".
* BlueIsHeroic: A blue skunk who is one of the main protagonists.
* ButtMonkey: Even by the standards of this series, her deaths can be pretty brutal. She's also only survived a single starring role throughout the entire series (House Warming), and even then it ends with her being reduced to a barely-alive pile of burnt mush.

Despite his handicap, Handy is most often seen doing (or at least attempting) activities that require hands. Ironically, his dam is full of things that are handheld. Whenever he fails at a task or remembers he doesn't have hands, he will pull his trademark look of a frustrated glance into the camera.

* BirdsOfAFeather: He is close friends with The Mole; likely because they are both handicapped and have had their lives drastically changed because of it. They go on a road trip together in "Don't Yank My Chain". In "No Time Like the Present" they seem to be living together as roommates. They are often working together (such as building houses, bridges, or being lumbermen). Notably in the TV series, where Handy displays a clear LackOfEmpathy at many characters' misfortunes, he is genuinely horrified at The Mole's death and silently mourns him.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: Whenever he gets frustrated over his lack of hands, he turns to the camera and growls.
* ButtMonkey: A recurring joke is that his lack of hands prevent him from doing certain things, followed by his signature growl of frustration when realizing that said things need hands to be done. There's also the fact that he has one of the lowest survival rates in the series. Take, for example, "Change in Heart" where he is the only character that dies in the episode.
* CosmicPlaything: While this tropes applies to virtually the entire cast, Handy seems to be one of the few the universe is trying to actively torment rather than giving him a KarmicDeath or a TooDumbToLive warning. Take "Don't Yank My Chain" as an example, where Handy's logical attempt to break the chain he was strapped to results in his death. The first fact is that he has no hands, so his life is already difficult (he's one of the few characters who has a permanent injury). But even outside of the gore and grime, Handy is rarely given a happy ending to begin with. Even Lifty and Shifty have more wholesome conclusions. The world does not just aim to kill Handy. His luck overall, even if the situation does not involve his hands, would still show as unfortunate. For example, Disco Bear yelling at him while driving a van when Handy was in the middle of being a driving instructor, or Splendid hurling a snowball at Handy’s drive way right after he has finished cleaning it. It can be said that Handy is overall unlucky, even for the standards of the series.

* PerpetualFrowner: {{Downplayed}}: While he does smile often, he has gotten through episodes without even smiling once (Spare Me and Easy Comb, Easy Go for example) and many fans and advertisements will know and have his trademark grumpy face as his default expression.

His constantly-dilated eyes are mismatched with one lazy eye (a side effect from his high sugar consumption), and his vocabulary consists almost entirely of laughing and giggling. His sugar addiction has gotten him in trouble more than a few times.

* AmbiguousDisorder: His inability to pay attention to certain things as well as not being able to sit/stand still hints towards ADHD and his [[BigEater large appetite]] towards candy hints towards him having a binge-eating eating disorder. There are several episodes dedicated to him and a family of ants who he always tries to eat, though the ants always end up killing him at the end.

* AndIMustScream: Seems to be a frequent victim of this.
** In "Blast of the Past", where he unwittingly gets trapped in a time loop of himself dying.
** In "Dream Job" where Lumpy inadvertently tortures Sniffles by flipping through various channels of the TV attached to his dream helmet, forcing him to go through numerous deaths until he overpowers the TV and renders him catatonic.
** Every "Sniffles vs. The Ant Family" episode puts him in one (except "Suck it Up").

Sniffles was even one of the few characters who didn't get completely overshadowed by Lumpy, as he still had quite a few episodes (characters like Cuddles or Toothy only had one per season while some characters like Giggles or Flaky outright had no episodes about them). He can even be considered to have as much prominence as the four primary characters, being unofficially considered the fifth most frequent character, even when you take into account two of the other common characters, Petunia or Handy, who, at times, would serve as the series' unofficial fifth primary character.
* AssholeVictim: Zig-zagged. When against the Ants, he's depicted as the aggressor and they are the victims; he always has plenty of chances to back out of his war with them but refuses to leave them alone. He's at his worst in "Tongue in Cheek," when he destroys their house and pushes them to the brink of tears. That being said, the Ants [[DisproportionateRetribution take their retaliation far beyond self-defense]] and end up torturing and killing Sniffles in such a horrific manner that one can't help but feel sorry for him anyways.
* BadassBookworm: As seen in "[[Recap/HTFIdolCuriosity Idol Curiosity]]", he can hold his own pretty well against opponents.
* BlindWithoutEm: In "[[Recap/HTFSightForSoreEyes A Sight For Sore Eyes]]", it is revealed that Sniffles is extremely nearsighted when we cut to his POV when his glasses are cut in half by his [[MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext paper airplane-shaped rocket]]. TruthInTelevision, as anteaters have very poor eyesight in real life.

An adorable tan baby bear, who is always wearing a propeller beanie hat and a diaper/nappy. Cub is Pop's son, and often his deaths are due to his father's oblivious nature. Because of his babyish nature and innocence, he doesn't usually notice if someone has died or is in pain, and has even played with severed body parts on occasion.

A cowardly red porcupine whose quills are [[MeaningfulName full of dandruff]]. Flaky is the subject of a long-standing gender dispute, though most of the creators and fans refer to her as a female. Her official gender description on the website is a question mark. She is very cautious, scared of nearly everything, and is prone to motion sickness. Despite this, she can be very brave if the situation calls for it. Is also allergic to peanuts, as shown in "Party Animal".

On April 28, 2012, on the Twitter for ''Happy Tree Friends'', in reply to someone's tweet, it was an actual discussion about Flaky's gender and they intentionally stated Flaky was a girl, confirming Flaky's gender.

* ActionGirl: While she's usually very timid, she manages to land a runaway plane ''by herself'' in "Wingin' It".

* DemotedToExtra: After her starring role in the 2009 HalloweenEpisode, Flaky's prominence dwindled quickly. Having only a handful of roles in season three and being [[ChuckCunninghamSyndrome entirely absent from season four]] bar one featuring role in "[[Recap/HTFGoingOutWithABang Going Out With a Bang]]".
* DesecratingTheDead: While pretty much all of the tree friends have had embarrassing things done to their dead bodies, Flaky seems especially prone to it, with her remains getting used as a coat, a nest, and a hermit crab's shell among other things.
* FieryRedhead: Inverted. She's the only red character in the main cast, and she's also the most timid and shy character in it, tending to get both literally and figuratively pushed around by them. By season 2, she starts to develop fears that were somewhat irrational (i.e. skating, flying, and skiing). It's starts to tone down in the TV series, when she was seen brave enough to throw a birthday party for Flippy and bring a baby bird back to its nest. However, by season 3, she's pretty much scared over anything (i.e. going in the wrong bathroom).

* ThreateningShark: She's been attacked by sharks three times over the course of the series: In "Wipe Out", "Happy Trails Pt. 2", and "Wingin' It". Interestingly, she's survived all three of these attacks, only to die to something else.

They all have eyelashes and like girly stuff, but Flaky does not have visible eyelashes and doesn't engage in the activities they like. A blind lavender mole who wears sunglasses and a dark turtle neck sweater, with a mole on his face. His blindness drives the plot for many episodes, since the creators feel that he and Lumpy are the most inept Tree Friends for any given job. Paired with his blindness is also the inability to speak, possibly because of his sweater. He doesn't die often, likely because a producer for the internet seasons has a blind daughter. A lone ''[[SpinOff Ka-pow!]]'' episode, "Mole in the Big City", visits the idea that The Mole is an international spy, an actual character trait [[WhatCouldHaveBeen that was cut]] before he was introduced into the series.

* ADogNamedDog: A mole named "Mole".
* BeautyMark: Has [[VisualPun a mole]] near his nose.
* BehindTheBlack: Whenever he eats, due to having NoMouth.

* TheStoic: Due to the fact that his face is covered all the time and he's completely voiceless, he shows no emotion whatsoever, no matter what the situation. Justified, as he is blind, so he can't really see what's exciting, depressing, or scary.
* SunglassesAtNight: Possibly justified by the fact that he's ''blind.'' A trivia card mentions he has unseen blue eyes, though.
* TooDumbToLive: While most of his mistakes can be explained by his blindness, the fact that a blind person is doing all these things that require sight in the first place indicates that he's not the brightest bulb. However, he never really commits acts of piracy or otherwise does anything particularly illegal or immoral, being more of a sailor than a pirate. Disco Bear is stuck in the 1970's and lives the disco way of life, from his clothing to his dance moves to the music that plays on his alarm clock. He likes to roller blade, ski, and (unsuccessfully) hit on Giggles and Petunia, but most of all he loves to disco dance. However, he also loves deep fried/fatty foods, has a noticeable gut, and lives an unhealthy lifestyle. He takes great pride in his afro and goes to extremes to make sure it's perfect. It took until the TV series for the creators to stop finding him annoying and actually start liking him.

* AssholeVictim: He deserves some of his deaths and injuries due to his obnoxious behavior.
* AttentionWhore: Probably the main reason why he was so panned by both creators and audience is because of how he would force himself into a scene, obviously aiming to be the main attraction of it.
* BalloonBelly: During "Ipso Fatso", due to being overweight.
* BearsAreBadNews: Subverted, he's not always a villain but he is a selfish egomaniac.
* BigEater: In "A Change Of Heart", he orders a lot of food at the café, leading to his heart attack and is constantly seen eating various foods on the show, morso than any other character (besides Nutty and Lumpy, of course).

* ADayInTheLimelight: Disco Bear shares a lot of his starring episodes with other characters, and in a lot of them, he's not even ''the'' protagonist. However, in two of his TV Episodes, "Ipso Fatso" and "Easy Comb, Easy Go", Disco Bear has both of the episodes from his perspective and it's how his own struggles opposed to serving as a hindrance for the actual protagonist.
* EvilRedhead: Not evil per se, but he has been given the light of an antagonist who has caused the deaths of others because of his egotism and played the role as the main antagonist of an episode numerous times.
* FanDisservice: Anytime Disco Bear is seen shirtless. "Sea What I Found" shows how much it affects the other Tree Friends as well, as Pop has a shocked and disgusted look on his face when he sees Disco Bear walking along the pier in a speedo.
* FatBastard: When he temporarily gained a [[BalloonBelly fat belly]] in "Ipso Fatso". He goes back to being a skinny jerk after the episode ends.
* FatComicRelief: In "Ipso Fatso", where he is shown with a BalloonBelly due to eating a lot.

* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: "Easy Comb, Easy Go" suggests he might not be as egotistic as he acts, and it's hinted many times that he suffers from shame of his own flaws.

However, even after those episodes, Disco Bear outright phased from the show.

Two kleptomaniac green raccoon twin brothers, one of which (Shifty) is always wearing a green fedora. Lifty and Shifty often scam or steal from unsuspecting Tree Friends (mostly [[TooDumbToLive Lumpy]]) in an effort to get rich. They are played as sinister characters with narrow eyes, dark mask-like markings around their eyes, wide grins, and trademark evil snickers. Often times they work together to steal or scam, though they will sometimes fight, kill one another, or abandon the other to die in favor of riches or goods.

* AlasPoorVillain: In general, they suffer from some of the lowest survival rates in the show and almost always die in whatever episode the pair appears in. And unlike some characters who die often, who are occasionally [[ThrowTheDogABone thrown a bone]], Mondo has never been nice to these two. It doesn't help that the reason they steal is implied to be because they are/were dirt poor.
* AscendedExtra: In the first few episodes, they appeared very sporadically and hardly had any appearances at all. However, in the TV Series, Lifty and Shifty started to appear more. In fact, they were in third place in the most amount of starring roles. They even soon became the closet things to being the villains of the show, besides Fliqpy of course.
* AssholeVictim: They die in most episodes they appear in and they are [[{{Jerkass}} Jerkass]] criminals.
** Shifty in particular tends to be this on the occations where he happily betrays his brother to save his own skin and almost immediately dies a brutal death.

* BullyingADragon: They often steal from characters who are responsible for the majority of the series' deaths such as Lumpy or Fliqpy. Of those, these instances would often lead to their deaths.
* ButtMonkey: They have ''the'' lowest survival rates out of all the characters, while Shifty himself has '''''the''''' lowest of all characters. They also have one of the most gruesome deaths, and they tend to be extreme or even overkill, which is saying a lot. Most of these are [[KarmicDeath Karmic Deaths]], but some come off as an AlasPoorVillain for them. * FreudianExcuse: It's revealed in certain episodes that the reason why Lifty and Shifty steal is because of their poor conditions, and whenever we see their home, it would look necessitous.

* KarmicDeath: Most of their deaths are a result of their thievery. Shifty also tends to suffer worse fates between the two for [[CainAndAbel attempting to kill his brother more often than not]].
** In "Don't Yank My Chain", they steal a car at a gas station. At the end of the episode, they get run over by a train when the car runs out of fuel right on the track. As a bonus, the original owner(s?) of the car are being dragged along the train when this happens.
** In "Sea What I Found", Shifty chooses to save the jewelry Lifty is carrying rather than Lifty himself when the latter gets pinned under an iron bar. The underwater volcano they're over soon proceeds to melt the gold, which covers Shifty. Lifty in turn survives relatively unharmed, only to drown when he tries to grab his now golden brother (presumably to sell).
* LaughablyEvil: Like the others, their deaths are mostly played for laughs. What makes these two even more hilarious is that they have it coming in many cases. Sometimes, you just have to root for the two.
* LaserGuidedKarma: "Laser-Guided" is a bit of an understatement... since they have the lowest rate of survival of all of the characters.
* LovableRogue: Downplayed a bit on the "Lovable" part, but sometimes, you just gotta root for them for mischief.

** In "Buns of Steal", Shifty saves Lifty (who got his foot accidentally nailed to their van) from falling off by nailing his other foot to The Mole's van. It doesn't save him from getting gutted by a fence and being pulled apart though. However, Shifty is shown to be apathetic towards his death.
* RascallyRaccoon: They are the ''de facto'' villains of the series.
* SiblingsInCrime: They are kleptomania brothers and work together.
* SiblingRivalry: They're sometimes seen fighting over who gets to rightfully keep things they have stolen.
* SkewedPriorities: They often prioritize stealing over surviving. In "Sea What I Found", for example, Lifty is about to reach the surface of the ocean when he notices that Shifty is made of gold, then goes back down to get him, resulting in Lifty drowning.
* TheSociopath: [[DependingOnTheWriter Sometimes.]] They often show NoSympathy when characters die (even themselves), a prime example being in "Who's to Flame?", where they take advantage of the city wide inferno to loot corpses. But other times they do feel sympathy and even try to save them, like in "Claw", where they try to save Cuddles from the eponymous claw machine.
* StupidEvil: They seem to basically steal because they just like stealing, often stealing things they couldn't possibly take or things that have no value (for instance, doing a WeightAndSwitch, and then trying to steal back the bag of sand and triggering the trap anyway).
* ThrowTheDogABone: After dying in every appearance they had in the internet shorts, the television series sees them surviving a few episodes.
* TogetherInDeath: Though their deaths may be spaced out, if one of the siblings die in an episode, the other one falls not too far behind. The only episode (or rather, Break) that averts this is "Cheesy Does It", where Shifty has his face melted from insanely hot pizza as Lifty suffers from nothing.

Mime is very talented at various circus and carnival acts, such as pantomiming, juggling, making balloon animals, fire breathing, and riding unicycles. His reluctance to speak often lands himself and others into trouble, and he will sometimes choose showmanship over actual helpfulness. He's known for his instant deaths compared to most other characters.

His main method of transportation is an ice cream truck.

He is a comic book legend in-universe, and is an idol to Sniffles and Toothy in particular. As a disturbing twist, when Lammy tries to stop Mr. Pickels from harming others, it's Lammy unintentionally causing pain and grief.

A quiet purple deer (he is actually capable of speech like the others, just choosing rather to be silent) who is ([[MeaningfulName as his name suggests]]) a mime, complete with face-paint and a striped shirt. Mime is very talented at various circus and carnival acts, such as pantomiming, juggling, making balloon animals, fire breathing, and riding unicycles. His reluctance to speak often lands himself and others into trouble, and he will sometimes choose showmanship over actual helpfulness. He's known for his instant deaths compared to most other characters.

* ButtMonkey: Has only ever survived in ''one'' internet episode, that being: "[[Recap/HTFMimeAndMimeAgain Mime and Mime Again]]", his [[DebutQueue debut episode]]. He fares a little better in the TV series where he is one of only two characters to survive more than one starring role.

* ThrowTheDogABone: [[spoiler: In the TV series, when a character has a "starring" role in an episode, expect them to be dead by the end. Mime, who has one of the lowest surival rates of the entire internet series (not counting shorts), survives both of his, even if the episodes themselves have [[DownerEnding downer endings]].]]
** In general, his survival rate is a lot higher in the TV series than the web episodes.

A wooly violet sheep who wears a purple hairbow and a white wool sweater, and a pickle dressed in a top hat and mustache. Winners of the ''Vote or Die'' 10th anniversary new character contest held by the Happy Tree Friends website in early 2010, Lammy and Mr. Pickels are the newest additions to the HTF cast. While Lammy appears to be a relatively normal girl, her (seemingly imaginary) friend Mr. Pickels gleefully causes mischief with others, even killing them. As a disturbing twist, when Lammy tries to stop Mr. Pickels from harming others, it's Lammy unintentionally causing pain and grief.

* NiceGirl: Lammy is a loving and sweet girl, whenever she isn't actually killing people.

* OutOfFocus: Since they were relatively new characters in the series' run, they're clearly one of the more obscure characters [[note]]For example, they were the only main characters to not appear in "Class Act"[[/note]]. However, even then, the show treats them less as actual staples and more as props. They only had two episodes centered around them, which is technically ''less'' than Cro-Marmot, who has six. All other times when they do appear, they are [[LivingProp Living Props]], literally in Mr. Pickles' case. Heck, Truffles, a minor character and the loser of "Vote or Die" has appeared in more episodes than the two.

* SweetSheep: Lammy is a sheep and is a loving and caring girl... as long as she isn't actually killing people.

* {{Yandere}}: Mr. Pickels doesn't like when Lammy shows affection to others...

* LaserGuidedKarma: "Laser-Guided" is a bit of an understatement...since they have the lowest rate of survival of all of the characters.
* LovableRogue: Downplayed a bit on the 'Lovable" part, but sometimes, you just gotta root for them for mischief.

* NeverBareheaded: Shifty has never been depicted without his fedora.

* RealMenWearPink: Besides collecting weapons in his bunker-house, he likes flowers, tea parties, [[EverythingsBetterWithPenguins pink penguins]], and unicorns/alicorns.
