* WellIntentionedExtremist: [[DefiedTrope Defied, ''hard.'']] While they claim they're holding back the Darkness and protecting the Monolith and Aperion from the Archons, every time they appear it's clear they're just abusing their power in the hopes that their existential purpose will allow them to go uncontested.

* KnightOfCerberus: The moment they show up, things get far more serious; even though Macros was a threat, his defeat was relatively clean(aside from Soras' death). The Moirax kills Zenun in their first appearance, and being slain unleashes the Darkness, which Sanctum is barely able to restrain to the Monolith.

The twelve gods of the setting. They were born from ruins of Kosmera's body. Shortly after their birth, they started warring amongst themselves, which resulted in the creation of the Valorians. They were eventually overthrown and their physical bodies were destroyed by Macros and Orin's army.

* AbusivePrecursors: Even the most benevolent among them saw the Valorians only as instruments of war and used them as such.
* PhysicalGod: Interestingly enough, they only took physical forms ''after'' creating the Valorians. It's believed that the Valorians were not made in their image, but rather the Archons decided to base their physical bodies on Valorians.

Before there was life on Aperion, there was Kosmera. Legend says that she unintentionally brought the Archons into existence by devouring herself in a desperate attempt to satisfy her hunger.

* TheSociopath: Almost played straight. The way ''Orin's Journal'' describes his action can best be described as this trope. He's manipulative[[note]]For example, he encouraged bards to deface the history of the Unification of Aperion by making it a story about good versus evil and not about suppressing the Tetrarchy so they wouldn't be a threat to Valorians[[/note]], has a grandiose sense of self-worth[[note]]He calls himself a god despite not having ascended yet[[/note]] and a need for stimulation[[note]]Using the Unification of Aperion as an excuse for himself and his soldiers to continue fighting.[[/note]]. What keeps Macros from fully being this trope is that he actually is capable of caring for others; specifically Orin and his people as a whole.
