Hoichi is the boss of the stray cats in Kabukicho. Despite his strict rule and violent reputation, he is only out to protect the other stray cats by preventing them from getting into trouble with humans. When Gintoki and Katsura are turned into cats, and Kondo is turned into a gorilla, he takes them under his wing. After an attempted mutiny by the other cats, he is captured along with the other cats by Katsuo for the Amanto of Planet Catnip. While he protects the other cats from a huge beast, Gintoki, Katsura and Kondo come to the rescue and help them escape.

He used to be human, but became a cat 13 years ago. Back when he was human, he was a lowly killer working for the yakuza. One day he found and became attached to a kitten, which taught him the value of life. He made a promise never to kill again, which got him into trouble with his employer, who sent him on a suicide mission.
