While it flopped in Liyue, it became incredibly popular in Inazuma and Fontaine, to the point where local Inazuma writers even tried to [[FollowTheLeader copy off of its success]]. Albedo's story entry gives a possible explanation: while he's already a good artist, he saw some illustrations from Inazuma and thought they have such "narrative power", so he collaborated with Xingqiu to be the latter's novel's illustrator. The novel was lambasted as "a dictionary with divine illustrations", but given that Albedo was inspired by Inazuma's style of drawing, it's no surprise that an Inazuman merchant is attracted to the novel, allowing it to become popular in that country.

A little girl who died in an accident but was revived by the adepti with an immortal body. Spending several years in amber, she was unearthed, woken up, and taken to Bubu Pharmacy, where she now works as an apprentice who gathers herbs. Her zombification isn't that perfect, either, leaving Qiqi with a tendency to rely on someone's orders. Worse, she finds it hard to make new memories as well, making her rely on a notebook to remember things.

Qiqi can easily go into the thick of battle with her high durability and a fighting style which seamlessly integrates offense and healing. Her Elemental Skill, ''Adeptus Art: Herald of Frost'', summons the same-named ice spirit hovering around her which damages enemies (immediately upon use and if targets remain close) and gradually heals the active character's HP (as well as inactive characters if Qiqi is the one attacking). Her Elemental Burst, ''Adeptus Art: Preserver of Fortune'', generates a burst of ice, damaging enemies and marking them with Fortune-Preserving Talismans, allowing characters to heal their own HP whenever they attack affected enemies.
----
* ArchEnemy: Qiqi’s story and voice lines paints Hu Tao, the 77th Master of Wangsheng Funeral Parlor as hers since she wants to put the zombie to rest. Qiqi actually makes a point to commit Master Hu’s face to her already poor memory because of the former's animosity towards her.
* AttractiveZombie: For an {{undead child}}, you would have not guessed she would be a zombie at first glance, if not for the talisman on her forehead.
* BackFromTheDead: Her sixth Constellation upgrade, ''Rite of Resurrection'', allows her to revive fallen teammates to 50% HP (once every fifteen minutes) with ''Adeptus Art: Preserver of Fortune''.
* BadassAdorable: Qiqi may be a cute little zombie girl, but she is also one of the most reliable fighters in the game, sporting a solid defense and a versatile style alternating between offense and healing.
* BlessedWithSuck: Her immortality is supposedly a blessing given by the adepti, but Qiqi is unable to act without being given orders, cannot age past her childlike appearance, and cannot make new memories, causing her to forget everything that happens to her unless she writes things down in a notebook. And then she can forget about the notebook itself. According to the text about her specialty dish, she also has lost her sense of taste.
* BrokenPedestal: PlayedForLaughs. Qiqi loves coconut milk, so much so that she believed it to be a special substance. In her head, since goat's milk comes from goats, and coconut milk is so much better than goat's milk, she comes to the logical conclusion that [[EntertaininglyWrong coconut milk must come from a special goat on the level of an adeptus]], which she dubs the Cocogoat adeptibeast. She's so heartbroken to learn its significantly more mundane origins that you can hear it even through her monotone. Of course, it still doesn't change how much she loves it, as shortly after this she begs Dr. Baizhu into signing a deal that would guarantee her a constant supply.
* ChillOfUndeath: Qiqi is undead and her element is Cryo.
* ChineseVampire: She's generally themed after a ''jiangshi'', though she's significantly more "fresh"-looking than most examples of the trope; if not for the paper talisman on her forehead, one could easily mistake her for a living person at first glance.
* CombatMedic: Like Jean, she can both deal decent damage and heal her allies.
* CreepyMonotone: Subverted. She speaks in a flat tone, being undead and all, but combined with her voice and constant forgetfulness, it adds to her adorableness.
* CuteBruiser: Despite being one of the tiniest characters, she actually has the highest Defense stat in the game, along with moderately high HP and Attack, and she fights with a sword (unlike Klee and Diona, who use bombs and a bow, respectively).
* DowsingDevice: Her passive ability shows the location of Liyue-specific flowers on the minimap, befitting her job as herb gatherer.
* ForgetfulJones: Being brought back to life has cost her any long term memory she might retain. As a result she writes down important things in a journal to remember them, but sometimes she forgets the journal as well...
* FriendlyZombie: She still has the mentality of a child after being revived, she only follows her master's orders (and her own, when necessary) and is generally a docile person.
* AnIcePerson: Her element is Cryo.
* InformedAttribute: Her backstory and profile states that Qiqi's zombie nature also gave her a body that cannot die. [[GameplayAndStorySegregation This does not apply in combat]], for obvious reasons, although she does have surprisingly high Defense.
* LifeDrain: ''Adeptus Art: Herald of Frost'' lets Qiqi restore her party's HP whenever she deals damage, while ''Adeptus Art: Preserver of Fortune'' marks enemies with a Fortune-Preserving Talisman that allows any character who attacks them to restore their own HP. If she has unlocked her second passive, ''A Glimpse into Arcanum'', even her normal and charged attacks are imbued with a 50% chance to mark enemies with a Fortune-Preserving Talisman.
* LoopholeAbuse: As noted by Zhongli when you meet her, normally zombies cannot do anything without a command from their master. There is apparently no rule against the zombie being ''its own'' master, giving orders to itself whenever it wants to do something. How she contrived this arrangement isn't clear, but this allows her to (mostly) act like a normal person.
* OlderThanTheyLook: She's more than "hundreds of years" old (as stated in her fifth character story) since that's the elapsed time after the adepti sealed her in amber, and before she was discovered by humans.
* PaperTalisman: She wears one on her forehead, identifying her as a ChineseVampire. ''Adeptus Art: Preserver of Fortune'' also marks her enemies with Fortune-Preserving Talismans that [[LifeDrain allows anyone who attacks them to heal their own HP]], and if Qiqi's fourth Constellation upgrade, ''Divine Suppression'', is unlocked, they also lose 20% of their ATK.
* PintsizedPowerhouse: Unlike Klee and Diona, her fellow little girls who exclusively fight with projectiles, Qiqi uses a ''sword'', and can clobber much larger enemies than herself with it.
* PowerIncontinence: After Qiqi was resurrected, she became berserk, unable to control the adepti energy raging through her. The adeptus called "Mountain Shaper" was crucial in sealing her in amber.
* ThePowerOfLove: Zombies instinctively follow any orders given to them by their master. This becomes a problem when she's given complex or difficult tasks, as she won't stop even if she fails endlessly. The method to cancel such orders involves hugging Qiqi from behind and telling her "I love you the most", or something similar to it.
* RapunzelHair: It's not really noticeable due to her hair being tied up in a braid, but it still almost reaches down to the floor.
* RegeneratingHealth: Like Barbara's elemental skill, Qiqi's own can regenerate the active character's health while it's active.
* RegeneratingMana: Her first Constellation upgrade, ''Ascetics of Frost'', restores 2 Energy whenever a Herald of Frost hits an enemy marked with a Fortune-Preserving Talisman.
* ShaggyDogStory: To convince Qiqi to sell you some incense (without the required prescription), you and Zhongli have to repair an ancient siege weapon, fight off a bunch of treasure-hunting bad guys, and ultimately track down a mythical creature called a "Cocogoat." You never get anywhere on that last part and report back to her, only to learn that she [[CloudCuckoolander thought coconut milk came from a "coco-goat."]] No such creature actually exists.
* SituationalDamageAttack: With her second Constellation upgrade, ''Frozen to the Bone'', Qiqi's normal and {{charged attack}}s deal 15% more damage against enemies affected by the Cryo status effect.
* SnipeHunt: She sends Zhongli and the Traveler on one by accident, as she had wrongfully attributed coconut milk to a fictional "adeptibeast" she called "the Cocogoat."
-->'''Qiqi:''' What it looks like: don't know. Where to find it: don't know either. Where it came from: also [[RuleOfThree don't know]].
* StatusBuff: Her first passive, ''Life-Preserving Methods'', increases the healing received by a character for eight seconds while the Herald of Frost remains active.
* TheStoic: She seldomly expresses herself through words or emotions.
* ThirdPersonPerson: Instead of using pronouns, Qiqi refers to herself using her own name.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: She loves coconut milk. Her request to Zhongli and the player was to find a "Cocogoat" and slay it, believing it to be the source of coconut milk.
* TraumaticSuperpowerAwakening: Qiqi received her Vision in her dying moments, and her desire was to stop her death by "freezing time" and live again. These feelings gave Qiqi her [[AnIcePerson ice powers]]. The adepti then revived her and imparted her with a portion of their strength.
* UndeadChild: Qiqi died at a young age and still looks like a young child after being revived as a zombie.
* UndeathlyPallor: She's a zombie with a "bone-white" pale complexion.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: A group of Treasure Hoarders once threatened Qiqi when she was alone picking herbs. They didn't realize that this little girl is actually a strong zombie who could "send a whole crew flying".
* VoodooZombie: She seems to be a mixture of this and a ChineseVampire, taking the undeath, name, and obedience to a master of this trope.
* ZombieGait: Defied. Her character story mentions that zombies like her normally have difficulty moving around, but she makes a point of doing calisthenics to keep her body fit and mobile.

A pharmacist of the Babu Pharmacy with a hwite snake named Changsheng resting on his shoulders. He took in Qiqi, despite being a zombie and having a terrible memory, for yet-unknown personal reasons. Furthermore, it appears he only cares about her insofar as her use to him goes, as he has "no element of sincerity" when attempting to cancel her orders by saying that he loves her.[1] At the same time, he also easily caves whenever she demands something from him, ever-so-slightly lowering the cost of Everlasting Incense when Childe offers to supply them with coconut milk for Qiqi.

A businessman who works as the consultant for the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. He is an intellectual with a great deal of knowledge on all manners of subjects related to Liyue's inner workings, but his knowledge hides a scatterbrained side to him, being somewhat ignorant of money and often must have others cover his debts.

Zhongli's combat style revolves around generating Stone Steles with his Elemental Skill, ''Dominus Lapidis''--in addition to dealing damage to enemies, they can be climbed, they can resonate with other Geo constructs and continuously damage enemies, and they can be manually detonated if he uses a charged version of the Skill, which will also grant him a Geo-absorbent shield, damage nearby enemies, and drain Geo energy off enemy constructs. His Elemental Burst, ''Planet Befall'', lobs a meteorite onto his enemies, dealing large Geo damage and inflicting them with Petrification, rendering them immobile.
----
* ActuallyPrettyFunny: [[spoiler:Is about as close to laughing his ass off as he ever gets when the Qixing concoct a story about him "failing a divine trial" to sweep the matter of his "death" under the rug. He's also more proud and amused than troubled when the Qixing end up taking control of Liyue far quicker than he had anticipated.]]
* AntiArmor: The charged version of ''Dominus Lapidis'' drains the Geo element from up to two nearby enemies, reducing the durability of enemy Geo constructs such as the armor of Geo Slimes and Stonehide Lawachurls, the shields of Rock Shield Hilichurls, and the stone pedestals of Geo Samachurls and Geo Hypostases.
* AttendingYourOwnFuneral: [[spoiler:He prepared Rex Lapis's funerary rites, making the whole questline a sort of vanity project in hindsight.]]
* BadassBaritone: He maintains a relatively deep and mature tone across all language options of the game, fitting of the [[spoiler: oldest Archon in Teyvat]].
* BladeOnAStick: His weapon of choice is polearms.
* BroughtDownToBadass: [[spoiler:Handing over his Gnosis brings him down from being the Geo Archon to..."merely" being an Adeptus, a race whose remaining members are all seasoned veterans of divine conflicts such as the Archon Wars.]]
* ButThouMust: Similarly to Lisa, you must accept his invitation to a dinner date (which is part of Liyue custom) in order to advance the story. However, the meeting is quickly interrupted by the Traveler being invited to meet with Ningguang.
* TheChessmaster: [[spoiler:The entirety of the Liyue arc is more or less his brainchild, having devised a trial for the Adepti and the Qixing to see if they are ready to grow out of his protection. Had they not been ready, he would have returned and dealt with the matter himself, and gone on as Rex Lapis. As they successfully defeated Osial themselves, he decided it meant they no longer needed him and felt content with handing over his Gnosis to the Tsaritsa and retiring.]]
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: As much of a NiceGuy as he is eccentric and MoneyDumb.
* ColonyDrop: ''Planet Befall'' has him drop down a meteorite onto enemies, dealing damage and rendering them temporarily immobile. With his second passive, ''Dominance of Earth'', it deals extra damage based on one-third of his HP, and his fourth Constellation upgrade, ''Topaz, Unbreakable and Fearless'', increases its area-of-effect and duration of petrification.
* CombatMedic: At his sixth Constellation upgrade, ''Chrysos, Dominator of Bounty'', Zhongli's shields will take 40% of absorbed damage and heal the current character up to 8% of his/her Max HP.
* TheComicallySerious: He's remarkably stoic and straight-laced, but capable of some more absent-minded actions such as when he briefly waxes philosophical on the concept of money for a bit... Before confirming that no, ''he didn't bring any to pay for the thing he specifically went out to get''.
* ConnectedAllAlong: He was a traveling companion of Alice, Klee's mother and the author of the Teyvat Travel Guide.
* CruelMercy: In his story quest, instead of killing Wanyan for breaking her contract like she expects him to, he instead [[AwfulTruth tells her the truth about the fall of Havria]], the long-dead Goddess of Salt and her people's former patron deity, leaving her deeply shaken.
* CulturedBadass: He is a living encyclopedia of Liyue and has absolutely no trouble keeping up with the Traveler.
* DamageOverTime: The monoliths generated by the tapped version of ''Dominus Lapidis'' deal gradual damage in an area. It can resonate with other Geo constructs[[note]]such as the Geo Traveler's ''Starfell Sword'' boulder, Ningguang's Jade Shield, the shields of Rock Shield Hilichurls, armor of Geo Slimes and Stonehide Lawachurls, and the stone pedestals of Geo Samachurls and Geo Hypostases[[/note]] to increase its area coverage. With his first Constellation upgrade, ''Rock, the Backbone of Earth'', he can produce an extra Stele.
* DamnYouMuscleMemory: Is so bad with money because [[spoiler:he's used to being able to generate whatever Mora he needs with his powers. [[HoldingBackThePhlebotinum And though he does manage to avoid using his powers for instant funding]], he still hasn't quite managed to adapt his buying and spending habits to match.]]
* DealWithTheDevil: [[spoiler:Has "the contract to end all contracts" with the Tsaritsa. Its completion hinges on the outcome of the trial he lays for his people. Should he be forced to step in on their behalf, the deal is off, and he goes on being the Geo Archon while keeping his Gnosis. Should they succeed without him however, he trades his Gnosis away for some unspecified bargaining chip that the Tsaritsa possesses. As the terms of the contract prohibit divulging its details, he's not telling what it is the Tsaritsa offered that could possibly compare to a Gnosis and merely [[FigureItOutYourself encourages the Traveler to find out on their adventures]].]]
* DeflectorShields: The charged version of ''Dominus Lapidis'' has him create a Jade Shield, immediately damaging nearby enemies and protecting him and his allies from Geo-elemental attacks. With his first passive, ''Resonant Waves'', the shield can become sturdier the more it is hit, up to five times, and with his second Constellation upgrade, ''Stone, the Cradle of Jade'', he can also generate Jade Shields with ''Planet Befall''.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Notes that setting aside some private funds for his new life would probably have been a good idea. [[spoiler:It's a shame then that he only realizes this after he's already given up his Mora-making powers.]] Related to this, [[spoiler:the Golden House, the only Mora mint on the continent, is operated with the power of his Gnosis. Now that he no longer has it, it won't be able to run. [[{{Beat}} He noticeably pauses when discussing it]] [[OhCrap as if only just realizing that this could be a problem]] before sheepishly saying that the Qixing will just have to figure something out.]]
* DishingOutDirt: Given his element is Geo. [[spoiler:Being its Archon, his power and control over this element far exceeds that of other Geo characters such as Ningguang and Noelle.]]
* DullSurprise: PlayedForLaughs. His sense of money is so poor, he reacts to an astronomically high price by merely commenting it's rather steep while the Traveler and Paimon panic about the impossibility of them buying something that expensive.
* ExplainExplainOhCrap: He has a noticeable and uncharacteristic pause when he mentions that [[spoiler:without his gnosis, no more Mora can be created,]] suggesting the full scope of the consequences hadn't become clear to him until that moment.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: His eyes are bright orange with two glowing rings and glowing pupils, something not seen in other characters.
* FakingTheDead: [[spoiler:As Rex Lapis, he faked his own death to leave that identity behind and to test whether Liyue was ready to continue on without him as its Archon.]]
* FashionableAsymmetry: He wears one earring on his left ear.
* FatalFlaw: [[DidntThinkThisThrough Lack of foresight]], regarding [[MoneyDumb money]]. He keeps forgetting to bring money along on his and the Traveler's shopping spree, forcing the Fatui to cover for him every time. [[spoiler:He also doesn't think to save some funds before renouncing his Archon title, leaving him flat broke when the deed is done. Giving his gnosis to the Fatui also means the Golden House can no longer function until the Qixing find an alternative.]] He's quite sheepish when all of this is pointed out to him.
* {{Foil}}: To Venti, largely because of their true nature as [[spoiler:remaining members of the original Seven Archons. He takes the guise of an adult man, while the latter takes that of a young boy. He diligently ruled Liyue for thousands of years, while the latter hasn't been doing that much ruling. He struggles adapting to a less luxurious lifestyle, where the latter is more or less comfortable with his disguise as a bard. Where the latter lost his Gnosis--and thus his authority as Archon--due to his negligence, Zhongli deconstructs the other end of the spectrum by having grown tired after too long a tenure as ruler of Liyue, and thus willingly hands over his Gnosis once he saw that the Qixing and the Adepti are ready to move on without him.]]
* {{Foreshadowing}}: As the other wiki [[https://genshin-impact.fandom.com/wiki/Rex_Lapis details them]], there's ''a lot'' of spoiler-filled hints that [[spoiler:Zhongli is actually Rex Lapis, from his extensive knowledge of Liyue and their god to his bright amber eyes, which various in-game literature describes as a distinguishing trait of all of the Geo Archon's avatars]].
* FriendlyEnemy: With [[PunchClockVillain Tartaglia]]. Though, it’s not so much that they’re enemies more on the side that Zhongli is aware of how dangerous Tartaglia is or [[CuteAndPsycho is capable of being]]. One of his lines has him light-heartedly tell the Traveler to inform him if Tartaglia is giving them any trouble so that he can deal with it. His second line concerning him has him make light of the fact that Tartaglia likely kills those who oppose him in a manner that would suggest he’s impressed by his abilities, and looks forward to the news that will come the next time they meet up for drinks. He even invites the player along despite his previous line.
* TheGadfly: While he presents as a serious man, [[spoiler:the ''Rex Incognito'' books depict him as a rather playful character who sets up trials for humans, redistributes the wealth of the cruel, and propagates a myth about jade tablets being used as ancient currency for his own amusement.]] He also essentially [[spoiler:made Childe to foot the bill for his very lavish and expensive funeral.]]
* IGaveMyWord: As a traditional Liyue citizen, he believes in always honoring contracts. Though, he does note that if something isn't covered in the contract, [[ExactWords it's fair game.]] [[spoiler:Unfortunately for the Traveler, that he is prohibited from speaking on the terms of the deal between him and the Tsarista was covered in their contract, so he merely tells them to seek the answers themselves.]]
* GoodIsNotSoft: As [[spoiler:the former God of Contracts]], Zhongli takes contracts ''very'' seriously, and won't hesitate to punish anyone who breaks a contract made with him, whether it's beating the crap out of them or revealing the AwfulTruth about their patron goddess.
* HumansAreSpecial: [[spoiler:The reason why he never takes offense to Keqing's open disrespect is because at present he's of the same mind, and engineered the crisis in the Liyue story so his people could prove their abilities. He's immensely pleased when the Qixing and the Adepti defeat the unleashed god without his assistance, and takes it as a sign that he can step back and retire with no danger to Liyue.]]
* ImprobableUseOfAWeapon: His basic attack animation includes him ''kicking'' his polearm at enemies.
* InterfaceSpoiler: Defied. Before you complete Chapter 1 Act 3, his profile and story entry will list "Vision" while his Constellation is listed as "???". His story quest is also titled "Historia Antiqua", not his constellation's name unlike other characters. [[spoiler:After you complete the story, his profile and story entry now lists "Gnosis" instead of "Vision" and his Constellation is revealed: Lapis Dei, [[MeaningfulName "God of Rock"]].]]
* JerkassToOne: To Venti, calling the bard a drunkard and a disgrace to the arts. Especially notable as normally Zhongli is unfailingly cordial when talking to or even just about anyone no matter his personal feelings, remaining dignified and collected throughout his Character Story even after his biggest BerserkButton has been pressed for example. [[spoiler:Given that the two of them are the only two remaining members of the original Seven, Venti has rubbed off on him longer than most anyone else.]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: He’s given one in his debut trailer, The Listener.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: Zhongli is very attractive and wears his hair in a low ponytail down his back.
* MoneyDumb: Absolutely has no concept of budgeting, would just "buy them all" when asked to choose, will never try to haggle when everyone else in Liyue would, and always forgetting to bring his own wallet, necessitating others to cover for him. His character story outright states that "he cannot imagine himself being poor". [[spoiler:Having the power to create money out of thin air can severely warp one’s economic senses, especially for someone as long-lived as Zhongli. To the point that while he had meticulously planned for his own "retirement plan" that made the Adepti and the Qixing involved, he totally forgot about his Gnosis' role on creating Mora and thus the backbone of the economy.]]
* MrFanservice: His [[{{Bishonen}} looks]], charm and wit have him act as a magnet to those around him and he's viewed as a greatly respected figure in Liyue. Those he draws in are so blinded by his appeal that they end up being completely oblivious to the fact that [[MoneyDumb he's actually terrible with money]], even though the Funeral Palor where he works ends up footing the bill of all of his frivolous purchases. He also has some in-universe fangirls, with the most obvious one being the narrating Ferrylady from his debut trailer who spends the entirety of her narration fawning over him. And like Childe, Zhongli has amassed an enormous fanbase of fangirls and boys for the very same reason that the in-universe characters like him.
* MrExposition: Due to his great deal of knowledge he is able to provide the Traveler (and the player) with a great deal of information on Liyue's customs, worldview, and history.
* MultiColoredHair: His side bangs and low ponytail have an orange gradient on his otherwise dark brown hair.
* NiceGuy: While he is a bit eccentric with his view on money, he is otherwise a very reasonable person, paying contract workers fair wages, giving the Traveler a great deal of autonomy, and sharing his knowledge of Liyue with the Traveler. He is genuinely apologetic when roping the Traveler into an ill-conceived contract and finally repays them for all their hard work with dinner at a well-regarded restaurant. In the video ''Zhongli: An Additional Expense'', he seeks out a family who was forced to pawn off a prized heirloom to not only return their prized hairpins, but offer them additional money to pay for said expenses.
* OddFriendship: With [[AffablyEvil Tartaglia]]. Promotional material treats them as a pair, and they’re shown to be very friendly within the game itself despite their differing personalities. [[CloudcuckoolandersMinder Tartaglia tends to keep Zhongli in check]], especially in terms of Mora if he’s not outright supplying him with it, while Zhongli is aware of but otherwise unbothered by the former's BloodKnight tendencies despite knowing that he likely kills those who oppose him. The original Chinese "Composed" voice line suggests that Zhongli is impressed by Tartaglia’s battle capabilities, using the word "Warrior" to describe him.
* PerpetualPoverty: He has yet to have a scene where he actually has any Mora on him.
* PickyEater: While he seems to enjoy anything that she cooks, Xiangling notes how on one instance, Zhongli, after taking a single bite, suggested that she ought to serve salt and pepper tofu specifically using sea salt extracted from the Guyun Stone Forest, saying it would bring a fresh sense of depth to the tofu. His character story mentions that he's rather "particular" about virtually everything, including taste in food.
* PromotedToPlayable: Started out as an non-playable Liyue main story character before becoming summonable as a unit in the Wish system.
* RedOniBlueOni: The calm, collected and (usually) logical blue oni to Tartaglia’s [[FieryRedHead combative, headstrong red]].
* RequiredSecondaryPowers: Turns out that his bad spending habits are the result of [[spoiler:relying his whole life on the ability to generate infinite wealth. His attempt to avoid using said powers forces him to confront the reality that he hasn't yet developed the required spending and saving habits.]]
* RichesToRags: [[spoiler:Goes from having literally infinite wealth by virtue of being able to create Mora at will to being almost penniless, since he didn't think to put aside some Mora for his own use for renouncing his title as Archon.]]
* RiddleForTheAges: What exactly [[spoiler:the Tsaritsa]] could give him that was so important that Zhongli was willing to trade away [[spoiler:his gnosis]] for is not revealed. He merely insists it was in fact ''that'' important, and encourages the Traveler to [[FigureItOutYourself find out for themselves what it was]] since he is unable to reveal it. It's unlikely we'll get the answer any time soon.
* RunningGag: Chapter 1 Act 2 constantly demonstrates his [[MoneyDumb poor grasp at budgeting]], such as negotiating to buy all of an item's stocks when they only needed a few. Near the end of the quest, the Traveler and Paimon are visibly scratching their heads or face-palming when they're about to expect what Zhongli is about to say again.
* SeriousBusiness: Contracts, [[spoiler:befitting the god of them.]] He will never break a contract that he has made, even if he wants to, and if others happen to break the contracts with him, he'll be sure to bring down the famous "Wrath of the Rock" upon them. [[LoopholeAbuse However, he will abuse loopholes]] [[ExactWords and the exact wording of a contract if necessary.]]
* SharpDressedMan: He wears a very slick tailored suit.
* ShipTease: Has a bit with the Traveler. He’s certain that the wild Glaze Lillies that only respond to the most beautiful of song will flower at the sound of their voice.
* SoProudOfYou:
** [[spoiler:Is immensely pleased to see the Qixing and the Adepti handle the crisis, and takes it as a sign they are ready to grow out of his protection, meaning he can safely retire from his Archon duties. He also expresses surprised approval when the Qixing turned out to be a bit more ambitious than anticipated, and managed to gain complete control of Liyue.]]
** He also shows his respect to Keqing, because she's someone who, in his words, "speak up when they believe themselves to be right, and then go and do something decisive about it". [[spoiler:He's content with leaving his job as Geo Archon because he knows there are people like her.]]
* StealthMentor: [[spoiler:For the Liyue Qixing. To test their readiness, he arranges for one of the old gods he defeated in the Archon War to be released, as this is the level of power they need to stand up to in order to survive without him. Seeing them able to work together with the Adepti to contain the god once again reassures him that they will do fine without him, leaving him content with trading away his Gnosis to the Tsaritsa.]]
* StoneWall: In addition to having a great base HP stat, Zhongli's talents and constellations encourage you to build his HP further. Both his elemental skill's shield strength and his elemental burst's damage increase based on Zhongli's max HP.[[note]]That said, at a high enough talent level Zhongli's burst damage scales better with attack-boosting artifacts than HP artifacts, so it's generally recommended to increase his attack unless you really want stronger shields.[[/note]]
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: He has amber eyes. In his promotional video, they shine gold before he goes into battle. [[spoiler:According to the ''Rex Incognito'' books it's a distinguishing trait of Morax regardless of what form he appears in.]]
* SupremeChef: The description for his signature dish, Slow-Cooked Bamboo Shoot Soup, suggests he puts a great deal of care into anything he prepares and will use only the best ingredients available.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: He's a tall man with dark hair who attracts fans in-universe and out of it.
* TakenForGranite: ''Planet Befall'', besides dealing damage, inflicts enemies with Petrification, rendering them temporarily immobilized.
* TakeOurWordForIt: He invokes this. [[spoiler:He can't tell the Traveler what he traded his gnosis for but reassures them that he wouldn't have entered into the contract if it wasn't worth the price.]]
* ThatManIsDead: [[spoiler:He doesn't go back to his identity as Rex Lapis, letting the general populace assume he died during a divine trial.]]
* TraumaButton: In his voice-overs, he states that [[DoesNotLikeSpam he hates seafood]] and that "his memory is too good". One of his story entries shows how: [[spoiler: Long ago, even before he took on the role of Geo Archon, Liyue was menaced by a swarm of aquatic creatures. While revoltingly slimy and fleshy, with tentacles that could survive after being severed, the real problem was that they were so small that they could hide in the folds of a curtain, or between the pages of a book. There was no way of knowing one was around until you'd already touched it. Not exactly a creature he could easily deal with by throwing giant rock spears. Still, he was the God of Contracts, [[IGaveMyWord and he had promised to deal with them]], so he went personally from house to house with prisons of stone and removed each creature one by one. By hand. It's rather impressive that it took him this long to give up being a god after an experience like that.]]
* UtilityWeapon:
** Much like the Geo Traveler, Zhongli's geo constructs created using his elemental skill can be climbed and stood on.
** His charged elemental skill can be used to quickly mine minerals in a big radius.
* VagueAge: He has the appearance of a mid-20 year old but is clearly much older, seeing as Madame Ping recounts having encountered him in her youth. [[spoiler:As Rex Lapis, he is outright stated to be the oldest of the current seven Archons [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld at around 6000 years old]]. He's possibly the oldest being in all of Teyvat.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: Just like Venti, [[spoiler:[[GodInHumanForm and for the same reason.]] Not to mention that almost the entire Liyue storyline is machinated by Zhongli in order to test his subjects and step down from his duties as their presiding Archon]].
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: [[spoiler:While not outright stated, it's implied that part of the reason he's willing to give up his Gnosis is due to his old age wearing him down. It doesn't help that many of his contemporaries are already long-gone, such as the [[Characters/GenshinImpactOtherGods Goddess of Dust]], [[Characters/GenshinImpactAdepti most of the Guardian Yakshas]], and even [[Characters/GenshinImpactArchons most of the original seven Archons]]. One of his voice lines has him say that while he has a good memory, not every memory is a good one. Not even reminiscing about his old rivalry with Osial seems to stir up much more than melancholy and fatigue.]]
* YourApprovalFillsMeWithShame: Inverted with Keqing, [[spoiler:whose ''disapproval'' actually makes him quite happy. See HumansAreSpecial above.]]

Head chef and waitress at Wanmin Restaurant, one of the most popular restaurants in Liyue Harbor. When she's not working with her father Mao, she can be seen traveling Teyvat with her pet red panda, Guoba, in search of culinary ideas and to meet fellow chefs. The Traveler and Paimon first meet her sneaking up to catch some boars near Springvale.\\
\\
Xiangling specializes in adroit combat and fighting in tandem with Guoba. Her Elemental Skill, ''Guoba Attack'', orders her pet to breath fire four times at enemies, while her Elemental Burst, ''Pyronado'', summons a swirling flame around her.
----
* AdvertisedExtra: One could almost consider her the game's mascot for Liyue; she's the first character from the region the Traveler encounters (assuming one doesn't ignore her story quest), and appears in a large amount of official art. Despite this, outside of a passing mention in the second act, she makes no appearance in Liyue's proper story whatsoever.
* AndroclesLion: Xiangling befriended a panda by unknowingly feeding it with spicy cornbread. She was asleep at that time and was surprised that the panda ate her spare food and liked it. Ever since then, she befriended it, named it Guoba, and it followed her everywhere. Her character story mentions that the panda seems to be drawn to her cooking.
* AnimalMotifs: Pandas. She has a red panda buddy, she wears a panda charm on her waist, and her hairstyle even creates the impression of panda ears when you look at her face-to-face.
* AnimeChineseGirl: A slightly odd example in that this is a ''Chinese work'', but a whole boatload of the subtropes apply. She's ''very'' cute, has a lot of obvious Chinese cultural elements, wears a qipao, uses her spear in a form fairly specific to Chinese polearm arts, and loves to cook specifically what we would call Chinese food in the real world.
* ArtificialStupidity: Guoba will spew fire wherever he is located. While this is fine for combat (he can change his direction towards close enemies, even [[TheAllSeeingAI towards an invisible Fatui Agent]]), he can easily ruin puzzles by targeting anything in his general area (he cannot change his direction if you happen to put him wrong) and being unable to be commanded to ''stop''.
* BigOlEyebrows: Xiangling has thick, comma-shaped eyebrows.
* BladeOnAStick: Her WeaponOfChoice.
* ChefOfIron: While all playable characters in the game can both cook and fight, Xiangling is the only one who actually works as a chef. Her fighting skills also come in handy as she likes scouring various places in the wild in search for exotic ingredients, possibly running across monsters along the way.
* ChildProdigy: Even if she's still presumably in her early teens, Xiangling is already knowledgeable and passionate about cooking, and her skills are compared to that of a veteran.
* CookingDuel: In her side quest, she has one with a well-known cook in Springvale. You (the Traveler) have to assist her in various ways, from bringing her ingredients to cooking the side dishes.
* CordonBleughChef: She loves experimenting with weird ingredients; the twist is that her culinary knowledge and even culinary ''intuition'' is so great that she can turn nearly anything into the most delicious dish you've ever tasted. Her specialty however, involves hot and spicy dishes. Her character story reveals that her love of experimenting began with the monopoly of ingredients' stock by the high-class restaurants in Liyue. Her enormous know-how about cooking and ingredients is because she has experimented a lot, even if she had to pay for it with bouts of diarrhea and bruised knees, among others.
* DamageIncreasingDebuff: Her first constellation upgrade, ''Crispy Outside, Tender Inside'', makes Guoba's attacks decrease Pyro resistance of enemies for six seconds.
* DashAttack: Her weapon's ChargedAttack is her quickly rushing to a direction spear-first.
* {{Determinator}}: She refused to stop experimenting with unusual ingredients, no matter how many times she got food poisoning or injured while hunting for ingredients. Her sheer determination impressed the gods so much she was granted her Vision simply for refusing to give up.
* DomesticApplianceDisaster: According to her backstory, Xiangling destroys a lot of pots and pans by burning, cracking or even exploding them due to her unconventional methods for creating new dishes.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Xiangling is first introduced on the "Little Chef on a Hunt" quest where she tries to hunt down boars, drooling as she sees three of them nearby. The questline itself basically tells that she is a ChefOfIron who's knowledgeable about food.
* ExtremeOmnivore: Her character story and voicelines show that she will try to cook anything she thinks would taste good, from slimes, crystalflies, hilichurl clubs, and even the dragon from Mondstadt.
* FamedInStory:
** Pretty much everyone in Mondstadt and Liyue (which are neighboring regions) has heard of Xiangling and her good reputation. It's gotten to the point that when she arrives in Springvale, the head of the village hunters ''begs'' her to use Springvale meat in her restaurant in order to promote it. This can also occasionally give other chefs a chip on their shoulder with her, as happens in her first storyline quest.
** She is even favored by the gods, who saw her cooking and her determination to create dishes out of every possible edible ingredient and gave her a Vision for it.
* FamilyBusiness: The Wanmin Restaurant is ran by her father, Chef Mao, and he expects her to take over someday.
* FireBreathingDiner: Guoba breathes fire on enemies, munching on a hot pepper between blasts. Xiangling's first passive, ''Crossfire'', expands the range of his fiery breath by 20%.
* FriendlyRivalry: She and Brook, Springvale's resident chef, develop a professional admiration for each other.
* GenkiGirl: She's really passionate about cooking and searching new ingredients. In her side quest, the Traveler can barely keep up with her as she runs around the wild looking for special ingredients.
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: Wears a red panda doll on her belt.
* KleptomaniacHero: She gets her ingredients and tools from the wild.
** Her third character story mentions how she stole the fighting clubs of some hilichurls, and harvested some flora from the Dihua Marsh.
** This is also more evident in her Character Quest, wherein the player helps her grab specific ingredients that both of them come across in the open world.
* OddFriendship: With [[PirateGirl Beidou]], who brings her exotic fish to cook, while she in turn taught Beidou her specialty dish. What makes their friendship truly odd is that Xiangling was once kidnapped by Beidou, who was looking for cheap eats after a long voyage, but eventually released her after being impressed with her cooking skills, going so far as to voluntarily help her procure exotic ingredients ever since.
* OrbitingParticleShield: ''Pyronado'' summons a spinning flame vortex that revolves around her and burns enemies in its path. She can still freely move, attack and summon her panda, and be switched out while the fire wheel is active. Her fourth Constellation upgrade, ''Slowbake'', increases its duration by 40%.
* PlayingWithFire: Her Vision and element is Pyro.
* PointlessBandaid: She has a small X-shaped bandage on her knee.
* RedBaron: After enjoying Xiangling's cooking for the first time, Beidou insists that her crew refer to Xiangling as ''Madame Xiangling''.
* SecretIngredient: When Xiangling decided to become a chef, her father handed his cooking journal, which contains this quote:
-->"There are many secrets to cooking; the most important of which is passion."
* StatusBuff: Her second passive, ''Beware, It's Super Hot!'', makes Guoba leave a chili pepper on the ground after he disappears, which raises the ATK of anyone who picks it up for ten seconds. Her sixth Constellation upgrade, ''Condensed Pyronado'', raises her allies' Pyro damage output while ''Pyronado'' is active.
* SupremeChef: She really is an incredible chef (although many non-Liyueans may find her dishes both a little spicy and a little... odd, at first, with [[https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/83935073 some official promotional pieces]] suggesting that even her fellow countrymen occasionally find it "questionable"). This is even reflected mechanically, in that she gets a broad bonus to any kind of cooking in addition to being able to produce unique variant dishes.
* TheAllSeeingAI: Like Fischl's Oz, Guoba can see and shoot Pyro Agents even when they go invisible.
* WingdingEyes: When first meeting her in her questline, Xiangling has stars in her eyes (and drools a bit) at sighting the plump piggies she's after (and which you nearly scared off).
* YouAreAlreadyDead: Her second Constellation upgrade, ''Oil Meets Fire'', inflicts "Implosion" to a target after a full attack combo; at first it seems to do nothing, but after two seconds, it deals additional damage, and if enemies happen to be at low enough health, you can just stop attacking and watch them suddenly explode and die for no apparent reason.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: She has dark blue hair.

'''Affiliation:''' Feiyun Commerce Guild\\\

The second son of a Liyue commerce guild leader, Xingqiu is seemingly a polite and studious young man. However, he has a penchant for getting into trouble--and then using his social position to get back ''out'' of trouble. An eager reader and martial artist, he holds chivalric ideals in high esteem and longs to be the kind of hero he reads about.
----
* BadassBookworm:
** He's quite the avid reader and scholar. He also practices martial arts and wields a sword.
** He also wrote a martial arts novel named "A Legend of Sword". While it was rejected by publishing houses at first, the book was later acclaimed and became a bestseller when a merchant from Inazuma bought and took it home.
* BarrierWarrior: Both his skill and elemental burst create three (four with The Scent Remained Constellation upgrade) Rain Swords that shatter when the character is hit to [[DamageReduction reduce damage]] and give [[ImmuneToFlinching increased interruption resistance]]. His Burst also makes them [[FlyingWeapon flying towards enemies]] as he attacks to deal continuous Hydro damage. Both of these effects also carry over to other characters.
* BeneathTheMask: His "learned young gentleman" persona hides the fact that he secretly likes to sneak alone to various places to practice martial arts moves, commit some acts of mischief, seeking a "fight for justice", and other kinds of adventures. One of his lines has him expressing his relief that he can be himself around the Traveler when most of the time he has to put an act among the people who live around him. He also opens himself more towards Chongyun, which means the latter tends to get the brunt of Xingqiu's mischiefs.
* BerserkButton: Downplayed. He doesn't go outright berserk, but according to his character story, he hates cynics who question chivalrous heroes' motives more than he does carrots.
* BrilliantButLazy: At least in his story quest, even though he wants to help Chang the Ninth as a form of gratitude[[note]]Chang lends Xingqiu the latest volume of ''Legend of Shattered Halberd''[[/note]], he has the Traveler do most of the legwork as he occupies himself with reading his novels, and only comes to fight if he's threatened; that said, he can defend himself well, despite his looks.
-->'''Paimon:''' For all your clever long words, the fact is you're just a lazybones who doesn't wanna work!
* TheCharmer: He always manages to talk his way out of trouble. According to his character description, "parents in Liyue Harbor would speak adoringly of him, all secretly hoping that their own children would show as much promise as Xingqiu."
* ChildProdigy: He's well-learned and prodigious, with not just school subjects but also martial arts. His father was surprised that he would turn out to be talented in the Guhua Clan's martial art style when the former first tried admitting his son there. He even struck the Guhua Clan's head with awe when he wrote his view on martial arts; on how the Vision is an extension of its owner's body, and the weapon that they wield is an extension of the Vision.
* CrimefightingWithCash: Though he's mostly just interested in reading, he's more than willing to flex his family's financial muscle in the pursuit of justice... especially if he can turn things around to make a profit back in the process.
* CulturedWarrior: He's a skilled and gentlemanly swordsman who would rather discuss books or browse through a nice bookstore than trade blows. Of course, he's always ready to fight should the situation call for it, [[CrimefightingWithCash and in more ways than one]].
* DamageIncreasingDebuff: His 2nd constellation upgrade allows his elemental burst to reduce the Hydro resistance of enemies that get hit by the flying water swords.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: Carrots, to the point where he deliberately excludes them in the special version of the Crystal Shrimp dish, the Countryside Delicacy. He says that when he was younger, his mother would mash carrots into... something that sickened him.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: In his character story, his older brother remarks to himself about Xingqiu's "books under the bed" and that the latter may be hitting puberty, after cleaning Xingqiu's room. The whole thing sounds like Xingqiu hiding a PornStash under his bed, but he himself finds his brother's reaction odd - for they're merely martial arts novels.
* TheGadfly: According to various lines about him, he likes leading Chongyun into situations where the latter's "congenital positivity" flares out and makes him act in unwanted ways, such as eating spicy food (or Xiangling's cooking) or attending Xinyan's concert.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: An in-universe example; Xingqiu once wrote a martial arts novel called "A Legend of Sword" based on his own experienced. While it flopped in Liyue, it became incredibly popular in Inazuma and Fontaine, to the point where local Inazuma writers even tried to [[FollowTheLeader copy off of its success]].
* HealItWithWater: Xingqiu's "Hydropathic" talent causes his summoned Rain Swords to heal the current character when they disappear, whether that's from them getting broken by enemies or just running out on their own.
* IJustWantToBeSpecial: He has always dreamed of being the kind of chivalrous hero from the novels that he reads. After he gets his Vision, he can finally live out his dream, even if he has to find the occasions for it.
* TheIllegible: His penmanship is so terrible, the Traveler mistakes a message written by him for an ancient script or a cipher language. Once said message gets delivered to the guild, it gets recognized as genuine ''because'' it's so hard to read. His character story mentions that he once wrote a verse in martial principles that the Guhua Clan's head heavily praised, but forbid others from reading it - not because he wrote anything bad, but simply due to his illegibility.
* JerkassToOne: Chongyun calls him mean, suggesting he and the Traveler make a "Victims of Xingqiu" club. Chongyun's profile also states that he lies to Chongyun about where to find evil spirits, something that the exorcist takes very seriously due to [[BlessedWithSuck his condition.]][[note]]Xingqiu tells him that, rather than trying to suppress his condition, it's better to find an evil spirit or demon strong enough that his condition didn't work on them.[[/note]] Xingqiu does, at least, cheer him up, treat him to nice cold food and help him get back his swindled money if Xingqiu's lead ends with him coming back empty handed.
* LastOfHisKind: One of the few remaining disciples of the Guhua sword fighting style.
* MakingASplash: His element is Hydro.
* PrincelyYoungMan: He's born to a well-known merchant family in Liyue, and his chivalrous, studious and polite manners made him popular; it is said that many parents in Liyue secretly wish their children could be as good as him.
* PurpleProse: Being a novel enthusiast, he likes speaking in a polite and flowery way.
* ShapingYourAttacks: His Rain Swords that get created by his skills.
* ThinkNothingOfIt: He insists on repaying any kindness in turn, and will not accept any gratitude or even credit of his own good deeds if at all possible, believing it's simply the natural state of things.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: In his story quest, this happens twice to him: the first time was with a certain gentry's debt collector who was hounding Chang the Ninth (an NPC in Qingce Village), who called Xingqiu a "clown" for affiliating himself with the lost Guhua Clan, but after Xingqiu hands him his butt, he realized that the young boy is a Vision-holder. The second time was with said gentry himself and the Fatui Agent that he pays to work for him; after Xingqiu and the Traveler beat said agent, Xu of the Feiyun Commerce Guild comes and calls Xingqiu "my lord"; he then reveals himself to said gentry as the "disciple of the Guhua Clan and second son of the Feiyun Commerce Guild manager", which shocks the gentry.

Friend of Xingqiu and heir to a famed exorcist clan, Chongyun has the [[BlessedWithSuck interesting dilemma of being too susceptible to positive energy]]. While this so-called "congenital positivity" easily vanquishes evil spirits, he is prone to intense mood swings if he gets too heated, and he has no memory of these incidents afterwards. Therefore, he takes various precautions to keep himself from overheating, including abstaining from spicy foods and staying out of the sun.
----
* AmbiguousSituation:
** Xiangling believes Chongyun's "heated state" is actually his true self [[TheUnfettered when his self-imposed barriers are down.]] Chongyun believes it's a curse. Which one is true, if either, is unknown.
** His character story also puts a mystery on why exactly he gets a Vision: either because he wants to become the greatest exorcist in Liyue, or to control his congenital positivity, or to rid the world of evil spirits.
* AnimalEyes: He has slitted pupils like a cat's.
* AreaOfEffect: His elemental skill creates a circle on the ground where his attacks, as well as teammates' melee attacks, are [[SpellBlade imbued with Cryo]]. With his 1st passive talent unlocked, the circle can also increase the attack speed of melee attackers that stand inside the circle. This gives him good synergy with melee Pyro characters or supportive Hydro characters, but not Electro ones as Superconduct only decreases physical resistance while the circle forcibly makes all normal attacks into dealing Cryo damage.
* {{BFS}}: His main weapon is a greatsword.
* BlessedWithSuck: His congenital positivity is great for exorcising evil spirits. Too bad it also sends him into an intense heated state that he can't remember afterwards. To make it worse, even simple things like eating spicy food, exposing himself to the sun for a long time, or wearing warm clothing can trigger this condition. And even if it's useful in his exorcism duties, Chongyun himself expresses disapproval towards his unique ability, labeling it as a cheap trick.
* BlueMeansCold: Chongyun wears mostly white and blue and has ice powers.
* CassandraTruth: He sometimes faces disbelief from people who thought he isn't a real exorcist because he doesn't have to do anything fancy to ward off spirits. However, he refuses to "go through the motions" like the so-called "exorcists" tend to do.
* CelibateHero: His voice lines at friendship level 6 hint that while he wants to pursue romance, doing so would trigger his congenial positivity and so he abstains until such a time where he can be free of his condition.
* CooldownManipulation: With his second Constellation Upgrade, the Frost Field created by Chongyun's Layered Frost ability decreases the cooldown of elemental skills and bursts cast inside it.
* {{Determinator}}: He's determined to not give up so that one day, he can become the greatest exorcist in Liyue, control his congenital positivity, and rid the world of evil spirits. His resolve is what earns him his Vision.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: He hates any food with chilies in them. Not because he can't stand the spice, but because they trigger his heated side.
* EasyAmnesia: Chongyun can't remember anything he does within his "heated" state.
* HumbleHero: In his character story, a wealthy woman was so grateful for Chongyun exorcising an evil spirit that haunted her dreams, she initially wanted to reward him with lots of gold and jewelry. However, Chongyun only took his usual fee of a few hundred Mora.
* AnIcePerson: His element is Cryo.
* IcyBlueEyes: When in his "normal" personality. Otherwise subverted.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: He wants nothing more than to rid himself of his congenital positivity so he can experience life to the fullest without going into his heated state. He also wishes he can fight demons and evil spirits like a true exorcist without having to rely on said unique ability.
* {{Irony}}: He is such a successful exorcist he's never even met a ghost since they flee his presence. This bothers him somewhat, as he feels guilty accepting payment for his exorcisms when he doesn't have to ''do'' much. It also leads to him being forced to use his imagination to describe what the ghost or demon looks like.
* MoodSwinger: His congenital positivity can send him into a sudden, intense mood swing if he becomes overheated.
* OutOfCharacter: When he's overheated from his congenital positivity, Chongyun tends to do awkward stuff that he wouldn't be doing otherwise, such as jumping on a receptionist's desk and chasing Xiangling around, thinking she's a ghost. When this happened in the Wanmin Restaurant, even Xiangling was surprised that the "real" Chongyun would act like crazy. Xinyan also thought he looks introverted, but then in one of her performances he suddenly appeared on stage and started singing besides her; then she says "Guess you really can't judge a book by its cover!"
* PowerStereotypeFlip: Contrary to his element, he's easily excitable and "heated". Downplayed in that he knows this and tries his best to keep himself calm.
* RealityEnsues: Attempting to suppress his congenital positivity from overheating his body, Chongyun once dug a hole in a frozen lake and soaked himself in the icy waters. He suffered from a long-lasting fever after that incident.
* RedOniBlueOni: He seems to play this trope with ''himself'', switching on a dime from a calm and collected blue oni to a wild and hot-headed red oni.
* SituationalDamageAttack: With his 6th constellation upgrade, his elemental burst deals more damage to enemies with less health remaining (in percent) than him.
* ShapingYourAttacks:
** His elemental burst attack is creating multiple large blades of ice and slamming them onto enemies.
** With his 2nd passive talent, after his elemental skill's dration is over, a blade of ice will appear and then fall down onto the nearest enemy, dealing Cryo damage and [[DamageIncreasingDebuff lowering their Cryo resistance]].
* TheStoic: He rarely shows emotions even during his exorcism duties. This earned Chongyun the reputation of having a "face of ice" according to the Liyue scholars.
* SupernaturalRepellent: His congenital positivity is an asset when it comes to exorcising spirits. All Chongyun needs to do is stay for a while in the haunted vicinity and the disturbances will be stopped.
* SwordBeam: With his 1st constellation upgrade, the final strike of his normal combo will be accompanied by 3 waves of ice that deal Cryo damage.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: one of his {{Idle Animations}} has him chomping down on a popsicle. He also says that he likes cold food from Inazuma.
* WhoYouGonnaCall: He's the person to go to when a demon or ghost is haunting an area, and he's very good at it. Too good, in fact, that he feels bad for not having to do much to exorcise spirits.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: His hair is ice-blue, [[ElementalHair befitting his element]].

The sole rock 'n' roll musician in Liyue, she fights against prejudices with her energetic, literally fiery music performances. She's both famous and infamous for rousing her audience into chaos and leaving her stages into charred wrecks.
----
* AmbiguouslyBrown: She's dark-skinned, even though everyone else in Liyue is not.
* AnimeHair: Her hair is shaped like two big flower buds and has stripes of [[MulticoloredHair two different colours]]. These "buds" are also fastened with spiked belts.
* BarrierWarrior: Her elemental skill creates a fire-elemental shield. The more enemies are hit with the skill, the stronger the shield becomes. At its maximum level, the shield also [[DeadlyForcefield deals continuous Pyro damage to nearby enemies]]. Her 1st unlocked passive talent reduces the enemy hit requirement for strengthening her shield, while her 2nd allows her to buff her allies' physical damage as long as the shield is active. Her 2nd constellation upgrade also allows her elemental burst to produce the shield at its maximum strength (as well as making the burst always deal a CriticalHit).
* BerserkButton: Rock 'n' roll originates from Fontaine, yet Xinyan insists that it's her own music style. One of her reactions is even recorded in the Chihu Rock Bulletin Board: "Please do not insult my craft! My unique sound belongs to me, not Fontaine!" That being said, she does admit in one of her voicelines that the music style originates in Fontaine; she probably meant that she's giving the style her own twist.
* BigEater: She is one of the Wanmin Restaurant's most loyal customers, and will happily eat almost anything that Xiangling whips up.
* CriticalHitClass: Her 1st constellation upgrade gives her an attack speed boost whenever she gets a critical hit, while her 2nd one guarantees a critical hit for her elemental burst.
* DamageIncreasingDebuff: Her 4th constellation upgrade allows her elemental skill to reduce the physical resistance of enemies hit for 12 seconds.
* ElementalHair: The stripes on her hair are colored red and orange, and FireIsRed.
* ExtremeOmnivore: She apparently likes anything Xiangling cooks, even her experimental ones (which involve... unusual ingredients).
* FaceOfAThug: RareFemaleExample. In her voicelines, she complains that children ''start crying'' when she accidentally locks eyes with them. Her character story says that she feels bad about scaring others because of her looks, so she tries to practice smiling and good body language. Then one day, she tried saving a kid from being bullied by other kids, and she smiled at the boy as she patted his head... all while the poor kid is stone-faced and [[BringMyBrownPants wetting himself]] from looking at her face.
* FemininityFailure: In her character story, she's mentioned to be not good at "feminine arts" when she was younger. This, among other "prejudices" (such as looking far from cute or being taller than average girls) is what she's fighting against with her rock 'n' roll. And even then, she believes in [[{{Determinator}} not giving up just because she may not be talented at it]].
-->'''Xinyan:''' Back when I was little, the adults all said I had to be more girly, that I should learn and study all these things. Wasn't ever any good at it, though, and I'd often get roasted bad. Rock 'n' roll's a different story. No-one ever taught me, but I can do it just fine. And of course, the adults say "that's unladylike!" *sigh* Talk about prejudice.
* GreatBallsOfFire: Summons them for her burst.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Downplayed, as Xinyan is classified a [[{{BFS}} Claymore]]-wielder. But for her elemental skill, she strikes enemies with a guitar. [[IncendiaryExponent That's on Fire]]! This trope also applies on another level. Her "guitar", given the Chinese theme of Liyue, is likely meant to be a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruan Ruan]], but it's square-shaped, and has a blade in it, ''and'' is used to play rock music. Improbable Instrument User, maybe?
* InstrumentOfMurder: Her guitar also has an axe-like blade on its bottom. Her character story mentions that she made the guitar by herself, and added many personal touches to it, including her Vision. It can also self-destruct if it falls to the wrong hands. It's lampshaded in the end:
-->''Sorry, what? What do you mean, "these modifications sound like they have nothing to do with music?" Sounds like you, too, need to attend one of her performances. You’ll understand then.''
* MechanicallyUnusualFighter: Her Elemental Burst is the only one in the game that deals both physical and element (in this case, Pyro) damage.
* MundaneUtility: In her [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXSgda3ySTg Character Demo]] trailer, Xinyan climbs on top of a meteorite summoned by the Geo Traveler just to use it like a performance stage.
* PlayingWithFire: Her element is Pyro.
* ThePowerOfRock: She's a rock and roll musician whose Elemental Burst is to call forth a burst of pyrotechnics.
* RottenRockAndRoll: Played with. She isn't a villain or even evil, but she has made an infamous reputation in Liyue for her rather destructive shows, that the Millelith (Liyue's city guards) are pressed to stop her performances. But despite this, she has a lot of fans, some of which come from the Millelith soldiers as well, which helped her set up places for performances. In the end, as they're unable to find evidence of any casualties in her concerts, they just decide to "keep an eye open and the other shut" on her. She's also mentioned to weird out people when she's just walking around, due to how she prefers to keep her on-stage look everywhere she goes. That said, she's so proud at her rock 'n' roll that she believes it's why the gods gave her a Vision.
* ReducedManaCost: Her 6th constellation upgrade reduces the stamina cost for her ChargedAttack, in addition to strengthening it by a percentage of her DEF stat.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak:
** She mostly presents herself as far from feminine, but in her Birthday line, she says she's making a Fontaine-style embroidery for you. Then she lampshades it:
-->'''Xinyan:''' ...Why are you looking at me like that? Wh—What, it's not that weird that I can do embroidery!
** Her character story also mentions that when she was younger, despite her lack of talent at "feminine arts", she resolved to not give up. When Yunjin, one of her fans, came to her house, the former was surprised at how clean and beautifully ornamented Xinyan's house is, and she also saw Xinyan's cooking and sewing work.
-->''Why, this was practically the room of some refined lady of reputable upbringing, with nary any spirit of rock 'n' roll to be found! Xinyan was quite worried that this fan of hers would find the difference between their impression of "rock 'n' roll" and this reality too jarring.''c
* UnexplainedAccent: In the English dub, she's voiced with a thick Southern accent that no other character has.
* UselessAccessory: That little drum on her back, probably. It's unlikely that she can actually play on it, since playing guitar usually requires two hands.
* WhoWearsShortShorts: It doesn't even qualify as ModestyShorts, because her dress is that short.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: While none of her voicelines confirms it, Xinyan's implied to be afraid of frogs. One of Xinyan's idle animations has her cowering in fear as a frog ribbits.
