* InvincibleHero: Frieren is miles ahead in power than almost anyone in the world, having spent a thousand years collecting magic, fighting, honing her skill, and was trained by the greatest human mage to ever live. Even extremely powerful enemies can be easily overwhelmed by her. This is justified since she had more time to train her powers than almost anyone alive, and she even mentions that Fern will simply never catch up to her since she just has too much experience on her. However, Frieren notes in Chapter 37 that, while her mana is great, there are many other factors that determine the strength of a mage like willpower, talent, technique and experience. She has been beaten by eleven mages that had less mana than her of which four were demons, one was an elf and the other six were humans. [[spoiler:Solitär would've killed her had Fern not arrived in time, since their fight has become a battle of attrition.]]

* AlmightyJanitor: Technically, Frieren is just an unregistered, drifting mage in the eyes of the Continental Magic Association. There's no system that recognizes her prowess since she doesn't care for any registry, as she thinks these rules change too fast for her to bother. She believes an emblem she carries around is enough proof of her skill in magic but very few mages know the significance of it when she brings it out. [[spoiler:When she grudgingly agrees to participate in an exam to get proper qualifications to match her skill level, she easily outperforms pretty much every other mage there combined only to fail because Serie finds her annoying.]]

* OutsideContextProblem: As Serie explains, the First Class Mage Exam is simply not designed to account for a mage of Frieren's power participating in it. Her involvement skews the results such that several of the weaker examinees who would have normally been weeded out by the second trial are able to pass it. This forces Serie to interview the remaining mages herself instead of going forward with the third trial, as it would have killed most of them.

[[spoiler:Amusingly, she fails the obviously overqualified Frieren out of petty spite.]]
* OxymoronicBeing: She's an incredibly old child, and both of these traits are in full view in most episodes. She is in many ways less mature than Fern, but also old, wise and very experienced.

* SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining: The amount of effort she's put into things like suppressing her mana as much as possible has caused her to miss out on time she could have used for training her skill in magic, which leaves her significantly more skilled than most human mages but not really to the extent you would expect given her age.

She also never managed to learn to keep her mana detection up while defending, which is an incredibly basic thing for a normal mage to do.
