And of course, because his Resistance is actually higher than most Cavalier units, he's a decent choice to take on mages early on (and not a bad choice after).

* TheMentor: To Eliwood, and to Lowen. And even to Isadora and Harken.

One of the best ways to use him early in the game is to take away all his weapons or only leave him with the weaker ones (Slim/Iron) and make him act as a HumanShield. This only works for a few stages but by then your units should be experienced enough to survive without him. While the group did not need him as much as his older self, it is pretty benefical to have a liberal use of Marcus during early game, to make the early game much more easier to deal with. A fast clear during early game also allowed you to stock up your turncounts to train your other units in the Arena during ranked runs.

And of course, because his Resistance is actually higher than most Cavalier units, he's a decent choice to take on mages early on (and not a bad choice after).
