** He also takes cues from [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyIVTheAfterYears the Creator]], as an alien being who came to the world and created the Mothercrystals on it to seed life through the process of its evolution, but only as part of an experiment for his own interests and he plans to wipe out humanity now that they've served their purpose. His plan to throw the whole world into war to destroy the crystals also resembles [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyIV Zemus]], another alien who wanted to wipe out humanity to allow his own race to take over.
** He's largely inspired by [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyIX Garland]] too, as the representative of an alien race that fled their own world when it fell to ruin and are trying to conquer another planet to rebuild their civilization. Near the end game Ultima brings Clive and Joshua into the Interdimensional Rift and explains how its race came to Valisthea in a very similar manner to Garland speaking to Zidane in the Crystal World about the history of Gaia and Terra. Both are also the progenitors of an entire race (Humanity for Ultima, Genomes for Garland) whose entire purpose is facilitating the revival of their extinct civilization, and both have to deal with their most precious pawns (Clive and Zidane) rebelling against them specifically because of the bonds they forged. He also bears a physical resemblance to Necron, being a blue-skinned humanoid with four arms and a prominent pair of wings extending above his shoulders.

* NonElemental: Once Clive acquires his powers in the '''The Rising Tide'' DLC, they are explicitly described by the game as "neutralizing the elemental aspect of Clive's magic spells". Fitting, seeing as how Ultima is both the creator and [[MonsterProgenitor originator]] of all the other Eikons.

* WorthyOpponent: While still remaining a complete SmugSnake firmly convinced of the impossibility of his defeat, in the ''The Rising Tide'' DLC, Ultima actually ''praises'' Clive for managing to tame Leviathan and absorb its powers, and is impressed enough to even grant him a portion of his [[NonElemental divine abilities]], although, knowing [[ManipulativeBastard Ultima]], this was probably yet another ploy to mould him into a more suitable vessel, and Clive is very well-aware of this.

* AllForNothing: All his plans to turn Clive into the ultimate host of power would have been for naught even if he had succeeded in taking him over. Clive notes after absorbing all of Ultima's power that his body can't handle it, and after destroying Origin, when we see him next, he has already started to petrify from overuse of aether, and it's ambiguous whether he lived much longer after that. All Ultima would've accomplished would be the slow death of the Blight or mass extinction that included himself, leaving Valisthea entirely devoid of life.

* HopeCrusher: A very open and straightforward example. He's a proud, overt tyrant who believes that humanity only has value as unthinking slaves and/or fodder and devotes most of his time and effort to grinding them down until they're too broken to resist. One of his signature plays is triggering Eikon rampages by targeting Dominants during moments of extreme grief and despair, giving them exactly the nudge they need to go PersonOfMassDestruction and obliterate everyone and everything around them - we see him do it directly to [[spoiler:Clive and Dion]], and [[spoiler:Hugo's rampage as Titan Lost was instigated by one of his minions, Sleipnir.]]

** Similar to Bahamut, Leviathan would've wiped out Mysidia as indicated by the massive size of the Surge it conjured up before being FrozenInTime alongside it's Dominant for nearly a century. [[spoiler: Once he's freed, Leviathan wastes no time in creating an massive waterspout with Egi in it's vicinity, and his Tsunami move is capable of obliterating even ''Ifrit'' due to the overwhelming damage of the waves cause if not stopped in time. ]]

** Similar to Bahamut, Leviathan would've wiped out Mysidia as indicated by the massive size of the Surge it conjured up before being FrozenInTime for nearly a century, [[spoiler: given how it's Dominant Waljas sensed the villagers' intent to imprison him for a new Mothercrystal. Once he's freed, Leviathan wastes no time in creating an uncontrollable storm with Egi defending him. His ''Tsunami'' move can obiliterate the likes of ''Ifrit'' as the overwhelming waves are too much for him to handle if not stopped in time.]]

* BonusBoss: [[spoiler:The Infernal Shadow returns as the final opponent in Kairos Gate, only being encountered if the player manages to S-rank all 20 circles.]]
