* {{Jerkass}}: Her main trait. Kyrie can be extremely obnoxious when she wants to be, and often for nothing but her own amusement at others' expense. For example, in the Terrier timeline, she sets up a bunch of fake Avalanche recruitment posters just to see if there are people gullible enough to show up. When Biggs does, Kyrie wastes no time rubbing in to his face how "stupid" he is for having taken those posters seriously.

* {{Foil}}: To Zack in ''Rebirth''. The two are able to bond and strike a friendship pretty fast due to their similar friendly and kind-hearted dispositions, especially upon learning that both cheated death under mysterious and unknown circumstances. While Zack remains a staunch optimist and sees his situation as a new chance to start over and make better choices, Biggs becomes riddled with SurvivorsGuilt and struggles to hold on to his former optimistic outlook, often finding himself on the brink of despair and only pushed forward through Zack's encouragement. Zack decides to follow a different path and refuses to be held down by his past ties to Shinra, while Biggs finds himself unable to let go of Avalanche and feels compelled to continue their work, no matter what.

* DidntThinkThisThrough: A tragic subversion. In ''Rebirth'', Biggs decides to try bombing another reactor with a shoddily made explosive that proves to be pathetically inefficient when it goes off and leaves no significant damage. Biggs then admits that he knew the all-likelihood of failure, but couldn't help but try anyway because he felt compelled to continue his fallen comrades' work, however futile it seems.

* {{Foreshadowing}}: Part of Biggs's backstory is only revealed through incidental dialogue and a side quest that, to the point of TheReveal, has nothing to do with him. In your final conversation with him he also implies that [[spoiler:his experience with taking care of orphans makes him able to see through Cloud's tough-guy act, but that's something we won't explore until ''way'' further down the line.]]

* SparedByTheAdaptation: [[spoiler:He survives Shinra's attack on the plate, because Cloud and company rewrote the timeline. One of the shots just before the credits shows Biggs bandaged up in the Leaf House, heavily injured but alive, slowly opening his eyes. * AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Much like her son, Claudia in her youth wasn't well liked among the rest of the Nibelheim locals because she had a different way of looking at things. As mentioned in ''Traces of Two Pasts'', she had aspirations outside of village life, which upset the villagers because they interpreted it as Claudia looking down on their way of life, particularly the women, who also [[GreenEyedMonster envied]] Claudia for having the will to pursue her own goals beyond traditional female roles. Though she later gave up on her dreams after giving birth to Cloud in order to raise him, the villagers never really got over their resentments toward Claudia, and it's implied that they extended their cold treatment towards Cloud as well.

* KnightOfCerebus: Up until him, Queen's Blood is just a silly minigame, but defeating him for the first time is what first triggers the first vision of Lidrehl Balmon and starts the "serious" plotline involving Queen's Blood. {{Downplayed|Trope}} due to the the [[SeriousBusiness absurd nature of the Queen's Blood plot]] makes the whole thing still seem humorous.

[[folder:Shadowblood Queen]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shadowblood_queen.png]]
The vengeful spirit of a tyrannical queen overthrown and executed by her subjects, bound to a one-of-a-kind Queen's Blood card patterned after her.
----
* AmbiguouslyHuman: Given the time frame of when she was alive, it is possible she could have been a Cetra or a magical human. Then there is the legend of her blood creating myriad fiends after her execution, and that she is unable to enter the Lifestream after death, which sounds suspiciously similar to Jenova.
* ArtifactDomination: Her spirit [[SealedEvilInACan is bound to the Queen's Blood card patterned after her]], and eventually possesses Regina's body.
* CorruptedCharacterCopy: As the spirit of an ancient monarch possessing the body of an ace player of a monster CardBattleGame, and proving shockingly adept at said game for having been dead for centuries, the Shadowblood Queen is one to the Pharaoh from ''Anime/YuGiOh''--though unlike him, she is an evil tyrant.
* TheComputerIsACheatingBastard: Unlike every other Queen's Blood player, the Queen's deck is full of unobtainable cards designed specifically to improve the performance of her own card, which she also always gets to put on the field before the player's first turn.
* TheCorruption: She uses unique cards that are based on the Summon cards, but all have the effect of de-powering cards in their zones of effect instead of their normal effects.
* DemonicPossession: She seeks to corrupt Regina over the course of the Queen's Blood tournament subplot, serving as the final boss after hijacking her body to face off against Cloud. [[spoiler:After Cloud beats her, the spirit of the Emerald Witch who led the rebellion against her in-life--[[SealedGoodInACan also bound to a Queen's Blood card]]--tries to exorcise her, but fails until Vincent intervenes]].
* FallenHero: According to Lidrehl Balmon's ghost, the Queen was once a kind and benevolent ruler who loved her subjects and was in turn adored by them... until one day she abruptly changed--becoming a ruthless tyrant who saw her subjects as nothing more than fodder for her conquests.
* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: In life, she was a tyrant who ruled over what's now the Gongaga region, until her subjects--led by the Emerald Witch--overthrew and executed her.
* LifeDrinker: In order to resurrect herself, she's been draining the life force of those who come into possession of her card, mentally dominating them and either driving them insane or outright taking over their bodies before killing them.
* MakerOfMonsters: According to legend, the myriad fiends that terrorize the world were [[BloodMagic born from her spilled blood]] when she was executed.
* NoodleIncident: What exactly turned her from a benevolent ruler to a ruthless tyrant is never elaborated on.
* OutsideContextProblem: While ghosts are nothing new to the world of [=FF7=], the Shadowblood Queen merits special mention for being the only antagonist to try to TakeOverTheWorld through a CardBattleGame. She also can't be defeated in a fight, but instead through said card game.
* SealedEvilInACan: Her disembodied spirit is bound to the one-of-a-kind Queen's Blood card made in her likeness, though she seeks to resurrect herself by possessing the bodies of those who obtain her card and consuming their life-force. [[spoiler:After being defeated, the Emerald Witch's spirit renders the Shadowblood Queen's inert--signified by green-white chains appearing on the latter's card.]]
* TermsOfEndangerment: She snidely refers to Cloud as "little puppet"--demonstrating awareness of Sephiroth's hold over him.
* VengefulGhost: Like the spirits of the Gi Tribe, she was BarredFromTheAfterlife and persists as a vengeful spirit seeking to resurrect herself and reclaim her throne.

[[folder:The Emerald Witch]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emerald_witch.png]]
The spirit of a benevolent witch who led a revolution against the Shadowblood Queen, bound to a one-of-a-kind Queen's Blood card patterned after her.
----
* AmbiguouslyHuman: Given the time frame she was alive and being a wielder of "arcane magic," it is quite possible she might have been a Cetra, or a human skilled in using materia or some other magic system that has been lost to time.
* TheGhost: Literally. Unlike the Shadowblood Queen, the Emerald Witch's spirit is never heard speaking.
* GoodCounterpart: Like the Shadowblood Queen, she is a spirit bound to a one-of-a-kind Queen's Blood card. Unlike the Shadowblood Queen, she is wholly benevolent and seeks to stop her nemesis from making a comeback.
* GoodWitchVersusBadWitch: The Emerald Witch was a benevolent sorceress who led a rebellion against the evil Shadowblood Queen--a tyrannical SorcerousOverlord--and saw to it that she was executed. However, the Shadowblood Queen's vengeful spirit was BarredFromTheAfterlife and began plotting to make a comeback through the Queen's Blood card made in her likeness, so the Emerald Witch's spirit incarnated as a Queen's Blood card to oppose her once again.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: She was a heroic sorceress who fought against an evil queen many centuries before the events of the games.
* PosthumousCharacter: She's been dead for countless centuries, but hasn't passed on to the Lifestream due to her nemesis also persisting.
* SealedGoodInACan: Her spirit is bound to the Queen's Blood card made in her likeness, and is the only thing able to stop the Shadowblood Queen's rise to power.
* VirtuousCharacterCopy: Considering all the ''Franchise/YuGiOh'' shoutouts permeating the side quest, she is one to the Spirit of the Ring. Another spirit bound to a likeminded object to the nemesis they faced long ago, but where the Spirit uses the Pharoah's return to usurp his power, The Emerald Witch waits to stop her nemesis from returning to conquer the world.

* AmbiguousSituation: Is Dale really the one playing Queen's Blood, or is Sephiroth just messing with Cloud yet again, because there's nothing he won't stoop to if it means spiting Cloud?
* ItCanThink: Assuming Dale is the one playing, it's proof that Sephiroth Clones retain some measure of intelligence.

[[folder:The Cetra]]
Also known as the Ancients, they were a race of humans who could commune with the Lifestream. They ruled the Planet in ages past, but after the Calamity Jenova fell from the stars 2000 years ago, they began dwindling until the present day when they are all but extinct with the half-Cetra Aerith as their last known survivor.
----
* AdaptationalVillainy: The visit to Cosmo Canyon implies that the Cetra were not as benevolent as in the original game. At the very least, [[spoiler:they used the Lifestream to spy on the Gi Tribe, and when they found out about the Gi creating the Black Materia to end their suffering in undeath, they seized the Materia and cruelly left the Gi to rot instead of trying to find another way to bring them peace, but since the Gi Tribe's plan was basically a SuicidalCosmicTemperTantrum and they still intend to follow through even as vengeful spirits, it's not hard to understand why the Cetra did this]].
* DyingRace: Aerith is the last Cetra alive and her mixed heritage makes her weaker than her full Cetra mother, ensuring that the Cetra will either die out very soon or will be bred out of existence.
* HumanSubspecies: They were identical to humans in every way except their ability to communicate with the Planet.
* {{Precursors}}: They were the dominant species long ago, but the war against Jenova dealt so much damage against their civilization that they couldn't recover.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Weapons]]
Guardian creatures of the Planet. Sephiroth's tampering with the Lifestream has caused them to awaken and fight his corruption.
----
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: The Weapons were a very late game twist in the original, rising from the planet as a last resort to save it after [[spoiler:Cloud gives Sephiroth the Black Materia]]. They are introduced much earlier with ''Rebirth'' as a concept. However, the only Weapons we actually see are [[CanonForeigner Canon Foreigners]] who were created for the remakes, with all of the more antagonistic Weapons still in slumber.
* AdaptationalNiceGuy: The Weapons seen in the original game were powerful but neutral forces, just as likely to impede the parties progress as help them. These two are explicitly on the party's side, one takes Tifa to see Sephiroth's corruption of the Lifestream, [[spoiler:and may have given her the power to fight it on her end]], so that she can tell the others about his actions. Tifa even ends their encounter wishing it luck. Though these are not the same Weapons as the ones seen in the original game, and may have been awakened with different priorities in mind.
* AmbiguousSituation: The game leaves it ambiguous if the party's repeated encounters with the Weapons are coincidences, or [[spoiler:the work of the alternate Aerith who is looking out for the party. Notably, when Tifa is nearly killed while carried by a Weapon, the Aerith she sees reacts like she actively saw what happened. There is also the fact that to fight the Black Whispers a button prompt is done, as though a playable character was directing them, and they bring her to a recreation of Nibelheim's locations in the Lifestream that looks premade and not formed from her memories, and in the ending they defend the recreation from the Black Whispers, as though knowing that it will be important for later events]].
* CanonForeigner: The two Weapons seen in ''Rebirth'' are new to the series and not based on any in the ''Compilation''.
* TheDividual: The two seen Weapons are a pair of whale-like beasts only slightly different in horn shape and color from each other and work together.
* GuardianEntity: Red describes them as tutelary creatures called upon to defend the planet.
* LightIsGood: Within the chest of the Weapons is a massive Materia that glows with a cleansing light that destroys the Black Whispers that follow Sephiroth.
* MadeOfIron: The Weapons are incredibly resilient, fitting their role as guardians of the Planet. [[spoiler:When Sephiroth engages one, his sword actually gets stuck in its hide, making him [[NotSoStoic show a flicker of concern]] before he forces the blade through. Even then, the Weapon is able to drive him off and go on its way]].
* TheWorfBarrage: Showing how powerful these creatures are, [[spoiler:Tifa sees a battle between them and Sephiroth and while it is hurt by his strikes, he does put a significant amount of effort into hurting ones shoulder and has to leave without doing much else]].
* WoundThatWillNotHeal: Despite some time passing before the ending, the [[spoiler:Weapon that Sephiroth injured is still carrying the same injury]].

A Queen's Blood player in Crow's Nest. She's an activist who sees Queen's Blood as a potential diplomacy tool to achieve "World Peace".
----
* GracefulLoser: She'll act graceful if Cloud wins or loses against her, as all she wants is for more people to start playing Queen's Blood.
* OnlyOneName: She's only known as Michaela and isn't given a surname.
* WideEyedIdealist: She's a political activist who wants to use Queen's Blood as a diplomacy tool against Shinra to "bridge the gap" between them, which is a very naive idea, and she herself admits people laugh at her all the time.

* MirrorCharacter: To Tifa, since Broden acts a reflection to Cloud. Mildred and Broden are childhood friends much like Tifa and Cloud. She clearly care about Broden's health, and dreams about traveling the world with him, much like what Tifa and Cloud are doing in ''Rebirth''. Notably, her design has multiple allusions to Tifa's outfit, with the suspenders, ponytail, gloves and her bust making her look like an older, brunette version of Tifa.
