A side book for the ''Remake'' continuity, ''[[Literature/FinalFantasyVIIRemakeTraceOfTwoPasts Trace of Two Pasts]]'', actually answered this with expensive skin transplants done to cover up what should've been otherwise permanent.

* HeroicWannabe: Part of Cloud's arc in the original game is dissecting how silly and immature his idea of what a cool and badass hero is like in an attempt to be the person he thinks Tifa will be impressed by, being a standoffish and aloof dick. Another false take. Cloud, who was battling severe depression throughout Advent Children and the tie-in books before that, was actually invited into Barret's house at Marlene's suggestion so that they could look after him. At no point ever does he get to try being some kind of parental figure for Marlene and/or Denzel. At best, he's a sort-of big brother figure for them who tends to be the one who needs looking after outside of protecting the kids from monsters and bad people.

This led to him developing a JerkassFacade and got into fights with other boys. But after an accident in Mt. Saying Cloud's false persona is a "separate entity" is false. He himself admits to the party after he gets his full memories back that he was subconsciously acting out on the ideal image his younger, naive self imagined. Jenova merely aided the delusion, but it never created an entirely separate personality. Because if that were the case, then the post-Lifestream Cloud would've acted like he didn't know anyone in the party besides Tifa, because his personality had a hard reset. But that wasn't the case. Cloud has always been Cloud - he just needed help in accepting who he really was, as as was the point of the lifestream sequence.

So basically his false persona is also based on a less-repressed version of [[ShrinkingViolet Cloud]] who actually acts on his desires.
