* BitchInSheepsClothing: They are very, ''very'' good at pretending to be cute and innocent, which got Emiko and Ena completely fooled. However, when nobody notices, they reveal their true nature as totally nasty kids who will always try to gang up on Erma. It's a good thing Yori never buys any of their lies. [[spoiler: Part four of Reunion's End reveals that their hostility is also a facade they put due to being bullied by the yokai kids.]]

* AbusiveParents: She is just as unpleasant an individual as her husband, though were he showed indifference toward his children upon his return, Amaya outright began to berate and demean them not even moments upon her arrival.

* [[ParentalFavouritism Grandparental Favouritism]]: While she confesses to sensing a lot of potential with Erma, she seems to prefer the twins. However, her context is implied more for being able to cause trouble than anything else.

* BrokenPedestal: Much like Rin it's shown that Emiko's running away greatly hurt her to the point she will hardly even acknowledge Emiko's presence.

* MisaimedMarketing: When we get to see (some) of an episode, it's a lot more dark and violent than one would expect from a show about unicorn princesses.

* TraumaCongaLine: With the exception of the goblin kid [[spoiler: the group suffers Erma's rampage as she tortures them by dragging them below the darkness of her hair and covering their bodies with it, with the cyclops kid getting punished the most. By the time Erma rampage finishes, they are too mentally scarred to even move, shaking on the floor and with newfound white streaks in their hair.]]

* {{Expy}}: Of [[ComicStrip/CalvinAndHobbes Rosalyn]], as the BadlyBatteredBabysitter who manages to wrangle the rebellious main character.

* FantasticRacism: The whole family seems to possess varying levels of apprehension towards humans, though implications veer less around active malicious ideas about the human race and closer towards how one would try to be polite around a foreigner. In the case of Sam Williams, Emiko's immediate family possess an air of awkwardness born from their father's hatred of humans and concern for his safety, fully aware that other yokai would be more than willing to kill and eat him first chance they get.

* TheSpeechless: Because she has no mouth, it is believed that she is incapable of speaking. Ena and Emiko still interacts with her as though she can. [[spoiler:Turns out, she can actually give herself a mouth with her shapeshifting, but she doesn't talk while she has a face, edging the possibility that this is voluntary. However, Reunion's End Part 7 reveals that she ''can'' speak, subverting this trope.]]

* TheDividual: They are exactly alike not just in appearance but also in personalities. There has yet to be any attempt from the author to give them characteristics that differentiate them. [[spoiler:Eventually subverted by Momo, who ends up being braver and more willing to open up to Erma than Mitsu.]]

* UsedToBeASweetKid: [[spoiler:part four of Reunion's End has the two of them reveal they were originally as nice as Erma as they had actually tried to be friends with the Yokai Kids too. When the Yokai Kids kept bullying them after when they tried to be friendly, the two of them decided to [[ThenLetMeBeEvil stop being nice]].]]
