* AssholeVictim: Is he ever! Everything he does ultimately gets himself killed by Lucy.

* HateSink: It's clear that he's meant to be despised and give Lucy more sympathy in her backstory.

* {{Revenge}}: Despite his death, Tomoo comes back as a spectre. Tomoo's first action is to barrage Lucy with hallucinations to [[MisplacedRetribution punish her for killing him]], despite his death being his own fault.

Jerks Are Worse Than Villains is YMMV, so is not allowed to be listed here unless invoked by the narrative itself.

* JerksAreWorseThanVillains: Admittedly, his bullying is [[BullyBrutality far from benign]], this kid is arguably still the most notorious {{Hate Sink}} of the anime.

* DyingMomentOfAwesome: Despite losing the lower half of her body, thrown through a glass window, and the shock of Mariko's betrayal (not to mention surely going into ''medical'' shock), in her last moments Saito has enough strength and presence of mind to push the bomb button and blow Mariko's right arm off, making the slaughter end before it can turn into another bloodbath like Lucy's escape.

Like many things, though, the manga version of this scene is colored by later reveals about her, and it's genuinely ambiguous in light of the kind of person she turned out to be whether it was a genuine act of heroism or ''spite'' out of being rejected as a parental figured.

Added DiffLines:

* NightmareHands: Diclonius can create "vectors", invisible energy-based hands that reach out from their body with the power to manipulate objects, including the strength to dismember or decapitate the average human being. Most Diclonious have a limited range and can only generate four "vectors" total. One Diclonious girl, however, can generate up to twenty "vectors" that have enormous reach and are actually visible to the naked eye.

I went back and rewatched that scene, and her head was exploded like the others.

Added DiffLines:

* DeathOfAChild: She was only a child herself when Lucy blew her up into a bloody paste for getting her puppy killed.

Added DiffLines:

* YourHeadASplode: Lucy blows her head off for her betrayal, along with the other children who killed her puppy.

This is an index, not a trope.

* OurClonesAreIdentical: They all look identical with each other. In comparison to their original Mariko, they look older.

%% Do not add Asshole Victim as one of Tomoo's tropes. His actions and subsequent death were entirety his fault, and therefore he does not qualify.
