* AmbiguouslyGay: Gets ShipTease with Ixlan at the end of "Coronation Day".
* ArtisticAge: It's not known how old she is, but she seems to be around Elena's age. She's presumably at least 18 if she can join the Royal Guard.
* ChekhovsGun: After Elena shows her a fencing move where you leap behind your opponent and strike them while they're caught by surprise (which she had learned from Gabe herself), Antonia uses this to defeat Rocco in fencing practice.
* ConsummateProfessional: Even more so than Gabe. Antonia is ''very'' professional around Elena and others above her, and if she has to disagree with Elena, she will WithDueRespect. Elena tells her that it's okay to be more casual with her since they're friends.

* HeroicBSOD: She becomes discouraged when Rocco tricks their teammates into leaving her behind during the labyrinth test, as she believes that neither her skill or perseverance will matter as long as she's not accepted by the others.

* PrettyBoy: Mateo has a skinny physique but his slenderness only adds to his handsomeness.

* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Most notably to [[WesternAnimation/SofiaTheFirst Cedric]], as Mateo fills the role of Sofia's wizard/sorcerer aide in the "Secret of Avalor" special. Whereas Cedric was rather jaded and bitter from years of being told he could never live up to his predecessors, Mateo's main motivation is to become as great a wizard as his grandfather. Aside from their occupations, they share many traits in common, such as doting (if at times overbearing) mothers, grade school-age apprentices, and funnily enough, a subplot where they were both enamored with a villainess in disguise.

* AscendedExtra: Granted, she's already a main character , but she becomes more directly involved in Elena's adventures starting in season 3. Special mention goes to "Sister of Invention", "Dreamcatcher", and "Heart of the Jaguar".

* HiddenDepths: Revealed to be a very talented baker in "Three Jaquins and a Princess."

* CharacterDevelopment: Her arc in Season 3 involves her becoming more confident and leaderly. In "Sister of Invention", she devises a plan that saves Elena from falling into blue lava, and becomes part of her group as a result. In "Shooting Stars", she's the one who helps ''Elena'' with her anxiety emotions. In "Heart of the Jaguar", she is given a test by Quita Moz that ''greatly'' improves her courage. And finally, in [[GrandFinale "Coronation Day"]], [[spoiler:she leads everyone else as Crown Princess into devising ideas to stop the Four Shades, gets Hetz electrocuted with his own lightning, and gets named the Royal Inventor by Elena during her coronation to become Queen.]]

* BigSisterWorship: Isabel greatly looks up to Elena .

* AloofAlly: Has made a list of everything she finds wrong about Elena, and that's just one among numerous examples of her being this.

* ThisIsUnforgivable: [[spoiler:Luisa refuses to forgive Esteban for betraying his family and Avalor because he indirectly killed her daughter and son-in-law, and believes that it would be wrong to ever forgive him. As of "Dia de las Madres", this may be starting to change. If anything, despite what she said to him then, she doesn't love him any less]].

* GoodParents: Both of them are very kind to their daughters and grandchildren. In particular, Luisa had been acting as a surrogate mother to many Avalorian children over the years.

* PlatonicLifePartners: With Elena, considering he was involved with her freedom from the amulet. They have a very strong bond, but it's clearly a friendship, not a romance.

** Mateo had a bit of this with Rita (who is really Carla in disguise), whom he developed some kind of crush on until the betrayal.

* AlmightyJanitor: He's still an apprentice, but he's one of the most powerful wizards in the kingdom.

* ChubbyMamaSkinnyPapa: Luis is a short, fat woman while Francisco is a tall, thin man.

** After being freed, the people she [[MistakenIdentity mistakens]] for Princess Elena (whom she was foretold about) are Naomi (a sailor), Carla (a criminal), and she even goes as far as to misgender Victor.

* SamusIsAGirl: Victor is legitimately shocked to find out she's a woman.

* TrueBeautyIsOnTheInside: When she meets Naomi, Carla, and Victor and mistakes them for Princess Elena, she doesn't care about how they do not have the appropriate attire for princesses and introduces herself to them staunchly anyways (partially due to Naomi picking up Elena's Scepter).
