Excised a redundant pothole.

Given the amount of {{gender bend|er}}ing in this series, GenderBender should only be noted for a character under special circumstances like Tedd.

!!Elliot Daniel Dunkel

[[quoteright:195:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/da8f044e6a7437ad8f5fd2d4cc6c51d8.png]]

->''[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2005-01-28 "Because it sounds like one big, awkward moment."]]''

One of the first characters introduced in the comic, Elliot started off as an everyman and foil to Tedd's devious antics. Since then he developed into a well-meaning, if somewhat inhibited, sufferer of chronic hero syndrome who would do anything for his friends and loved ones. He attends Moperville North with Tedd, Susan, and Sarah. He's Tedd's best friend and Ellen's brother/father.

* {{Adorkable}}: He tries hard to be an intimidating {{Badass}}, and sometimes succeeds, but on the whole he's a huggable fuzzball who just wants to be nice to everyone.
* AllMenArePerverts:
** ''Major'' aversion. He ''was'' at the very beginning of the comic, but then [[CharacterizationMarchesOn Characterization Marched On]].
--->'''Elliot:''' [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-12-13 I fail at perversion]].
** He does [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1743 have a libido]], it's just that his [[IdSuperegoAndEgo Superego]] is very good at thwarting it because he now has a very good idea of what it would feel like to be the object of any of his own fantasies.
* AtrociousAlias: Not by default, but [[spoiler:his superhero form, "Cheerleadra", was unfortunately [[MemeticMutation named by the internet]] in-universe]].
* BadLiar: As both [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2003-12-15 Damien]] and [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2004-11-17 Mr. Verres]] noticed.
-->'''Elliot:''' It's the price I pay for being one of the good guys.
* BigBrotherInstinct:
** Towards Ellen, despite her being his HalfIdenticalTwin[=/=]OppositeSexClone who technically has more life experience (thanks to her dream life) than he does.
** As the title of [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2007-06-02 this strip]] puts it, Fraternal-Paternal-Maternal Instinct.
** PapaWolf: And there is the fact of Ellen possibly being considered being his daughter
** Actual quote from Dan Shive: "Do not threaten or otherwise endanger Ellen. Elliot will break you."
** Elliot himself describes it in the simplest terms [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2013-03-15 here]].
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Ashley. They're both {{Adorkable}} [[ExtremeDoormat Extreme Doormats]] who have a lot of trouble voicing what they're actually feeling.
* BlessedWithSuck: Elliot's original shapeshifting powers only allowed him to turn into a catman, which hurt. Then he developed the power to change into a girl, which he dislikes, and all of the powers he's developed since are girl or girl-related transformations as well. [[spoiler:At least the super heroine can fly]]. Tedd theorizes that Elliot's magic will keep giving him girl-related transformations until he convinces himself he's satisfied with the girl forms he already has. However, this is not the only theory in play. See HiddenDepths below.
* BerserkButton:
** Gay-bashing. He gets worked up about it to the point that Grace needs to [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1758 glomp him to keep him from losing his cool.]][[note]]The blonde in the strip is Elliot, just shifted to burn off magical energy.[[/note]]
** Bullies in general. Which led him to become a...
* BullyHunter: He mostly abandoned this habit, with a few [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2003-04-16 exceptions]] like [[RescueRomance Justin's case]] -- though he's still [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2003-04-29 ready to jump in]]. Goes part and parcel with his Chronic Hero syndrome (see below)
* ButtMonkey: He gained the ability to turn into a girl, then had to start doing so several times a day or risk it happening on its own. [[spoiler:He gained a super-powered alternate form, but it's ''female''. He gained secret identity forms (tying in with the superhero form), and at least one of those is attracted to his gay friend (who, by the way, is attracted to male Elliot)]]. The author is on record that he enjoys tormenting Elliot.
* ChickMagnet: Let's see:
** Sarah: They had a relationship lasting quite a while [[spoiler: before they broke up]].
** Nanase: Despite the fact she's a lesbian, albeit in denial at the time, she liked Elliot for his personality.
** [[spoiler: Susan: She got attracted to Elliot through their various interactions]].
** [[spoiler: Diane: Just watching Elliot on the reviews he does with Susan was enough to make her fall for Elliot]].
--->[[spoiler: '''Diane''']]: You will be mine. Oh yes. You ''will'' be mine.
** [[spoiler: Ashley: Like Diane, watching Elliot on the reviews he does with Susan was enough to make her fall for Elliot]].
--->[[spoiler:'''Ashley''']]: I guess this means that Elliot guy is available. ''[[{{Tsundere}} Not that I'm interested in some funny athletic minor celebrity guy who's openly sensitive in his movie reviews]]''.
** He has a [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1766 lucid dream]] portraying himself as this.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome:
** Susan once pointed out that Elliot would save his own worst enemy. Elliot denies it after envisioning himself allowing Damien to fall off a cliff, then promptly protects the worst bully in the school from a supernatural creature. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] because even though Elliot hates Tony for his bullying, Tony is still just a regular guy and [[{{Muggle}} not a part of the magic world]] the main characters are finding themselves in. [[spoiler: It's later established that they were friends in 3rd grade, so that may have also played a part.]]
** His selfless personality is slightly [[DeconstructedTrope deconstructed]] in later story arcs. It's noted that this makes him ignore his own wants and not make decisions.
* CluelessChickMagnet
-->'''Ellen''': I'm betting the day Elliot actually ''tries'' to attract women will be the day that they collectively lose interest in him.
* DesperatelyCravesAffection: After [[spoiler:breaking with Sarah]], he starts to have a lot of {{Erotic Dream}}s. His subconscious [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1770 (in the form of Tedd)]] make him realize that he just wants a girlfriend [[spoiler:who's not like a sister to him]].
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: With [[spoiler: Susan]]. Not only do each of the main characters have at least some inkling of it, but [[spoiler: the [[http://egscomics.com/?date=2013-04-23 in-universe fandom for their movie review show ships them.]]]]
* FamedInStory[=/=]ShroudedInMyth:
** Revealed to be this InUniverse, due in no small part to his ChronicHeroSyndrome and the stuff he gets up to with [[MadScientist Ted.]]
** [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1731 Wall running]] probably doesn't help him keep a low profile. It's implied he does this kind of thing a lot without noticing.
** Also [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1732 that thing]] with the [[NoodleIncident griffin]] [[MakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext asking]] [[BigLippedAlligatorMoment for directions.]]
* FirstLawOfGenderBending: Leads to PowerIncontinence, InvoluntaryShapeShifting, VoluntaryShapeShifting, you name it.
** SecondLawOfGenderBending: Played with. Tedd theorizes Elliot's magic will continue to provide him with girly transformations until it finds one that satisfies him, putting Elliot in the awkward position of having to accept some aspect of femininity in order to escape the rest.
** ThirdLawOfGenderBending: Elliot's female transformations usually affect his clothes as well, apparently because he just can't help visualizing girls in "girly" clothing.
* HiddenDepths:
** It is implied that Elliot's "wooden reserve" is due to his fear of losing control of an extremely [[HotBlooded violent temper]].
** The actual plan was for Elliot to have a SuperpoweredEvilSide that would emerge if he did go all-out. However, WordOfGod has said this has been dropped.
** [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2013-03-07 A little introspection]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2013-03-08 reveals a lot]].
** Elliot's depths have even been known to surprise ''Ellen'' on occasion. Depths can't get much more hidden than that.
* HotBlooded: though he ruthlessly suppresses it, resulting in his notorious "wooden reserve", because he considers it a character flaw
-->'''Elliot''': Have I ignored non-violent solutions because I wanted a fight?
* IncompatibleOrientation: With Justin.
* LastHetRomance: He was the last of a [[ReallyGetsAround long]] [[LookingForLoveInAllTheWrongPlaces "Nanase's boyfriend's list"]].
* LikeBrotherAndSister: [[spoiler:Elliot, while describing to Tedd how he feels about Sarah when he is questioning his relationship with her, realised that this was the case with Sarah, paralyzing him with shock]].
* ManIFeelLikeAWoman: Averted, except for one mirror scene early on. Tedd even theorizes that Elliot's failure to "embrace" any of his girl forms is why his magic keeps giving him new ones trying to find one he will accept.
* MistakenForGay: After breaking up with ''two'' girlfriends (not at the same time) and remaining on friendly terms with them -- particularly after his breakup with Sarah is mentioned on his web series -- rumors start flying. However, we the readers know that [[spoiler:he's actually falling for Susan]]. Those rumours [[spoiler: had their credibility diminished [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1745 here]]]].
* PinkMeansFeminine: Judging by [[http://www.egscomics.com/sketchbook.php?id=739 his choice of pajamas]], he's finally gotten used to sleeping in his female form.
* SecretIdentity: In addition to the {{Masquerade}} and [[spoiler:Elliot not liking the idea of everyone knowing he is "Cheerleadra"]], [[spoiler:the spell turning him into a stock {{Superhero}}ine includes for this purpose three other (and [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-12-15 also cliché]]) forms that provide an efficient disguise not dependent on his acting ability]].
** GenkiGirl: [[spoiler:His "Party Animal Socialite" disguise form has this as her main charm]].
** {{Goth}}: [[spoiler:One of his [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-12-15 new spells]]. It looks like he was interested at one time]].
** MotorMouth: [[spoiler:In his [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2011-06-06 party]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2011-06-08 form]]]].
** {{Meganekko}}: [[spoiler:[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-10-22 His mild-mannered]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-11-03 secret identity form]]]].
* SeenItAll: [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2002-02-11 Sort of]].
** Most definitely. [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1732 And it never occurred to him that people might find him interesting because if it.]]
* ShapeShifting: Thanks to Abraham, he can turn into girl or a catman now.
** FlyingBrick: [[spoiler:As "Cheerleadra"]].
** InvoluntaryShapeShifting: due to PowerIncontinence.
** MostCommonSuperpower: Elliot's female forms tend to be well-endowed because his default female form was [[HelloNurse designed by Tedd]], and others differ only as much as he [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-04-23 concentrates on the differences]].
--->'''Elliot:''' What does 'exorbitant breadth' mean and what does it have to do with my chest?
** PowerIncontinence: Elliot must shape-shift several times a day to keep his powers in check.
** VoluntaryShapeshifting: In the sense that he ''can'' do it at will, not that he ''wants'' to -- and his PowerIncontinence means it's not quite as voluntary as he'd like.
* ShipTease: [[spoiler:With Susan. Their friendship started to develop after he got hired in her job and started to spend more time together reviewing movies]].
** EroticDream: [[spoiler:After a long time, he got a dream of him and Susan and started to freak out]]. Ellen calm him down telling him to see if it was just "teenage hormones" or it really meanted something. Elliot goes for the hormones...[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2013-03-14 at first]].
* ShoutOut: to the Superman mythos.
* SuperGenderBender[=/=]SuperHero: [[spoiler:His alter ego Cheerleadra]]
* SupernaturalMartialArts: He goes to a dojo which teaches a martial Arts style based on ''anime''.
** KamehameHadoken: True to the Anime and FightingGame roots, his first magical power is "Tamashii Gekido" ("Soul Fury") -- a short-range force blast [[PunchedAcrossTheRoom hurling the opponent away]]. Accompanying it by [[CallingYourAttacks screaming]] may or may not be necessary, but the gesture is, as Elliot discovered while bound.
* VerbalTic: "Za?"

->''[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2011-08-18 "Those gaming peripherals were for SCIENCE!"]]''

One of the first characters introduced in the comic, Tedd is a self-avowed pervert and mad scientist. Despite being one of the least magically capable characters in the main cast, his extensive research on the subject makes him the resident expert on the finer workings of magic. Originally written as a sex maniac, his relationship with Grace has caused him to mellow out ''somewhat''. He attends Moperville North with Elliot, Susan, and Sarah.

* FamedInStory: At least amongst the magical community his name makes eyebrows raise high. Jerry could identify him just from Susan's brief description. They claim it's only because he's the son of BigGood Mr. Verres or [[MissingMom enigmatic Mrs. Verres]], though this doesn't come across as completely convincing.
* FirstLawOfGenderBending: played with. Thanks to his magic mark Tedd can now have both male and female default forms. [[DudeLooksLikeALady Only he and Grace notice the difference.]] Other enchantments affect him relative to his current default form, but can change is default form if he really wants them too.
* FreakinessShame: He's upset by his father's reactions to his constant gender bending.
* GenderBender:
** Likes to become a woman for certain tasks, like cooking [[PowerPerversionPotential or showering]]. Literally ''all'' the [[GenderBender gender bending]] in the series that doesn't involve Dr. Germahn's office or the Uryuom is ultimately his fault; according to WordOfGod, he's the only person (other than villains) Ellen will [[TransformationRay zap]] without permission.
** [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2013-01-24 At times it's hinted]] that Tedd may be a full-blown (albeit self-closeted) {{Transsexual}}. [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1896 Eventually,]] Grace brings up that Tedd might be gender fluid (confirmed by WordOfGod in the commentary the following day). He didn't know that transsexuality (or any gender identities outside of cisgender) even ''existed,'' due to never hearing it properly discussed outside of references to his TF gun, and assumed that his own feelings were the result of the magic influence in his life.
** Seemingly due to Pandora's involvement, Tedd can now [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1941 apparently alter the gender of his default form based on which one he wishes to be most at any point in time.]] The more he wants to be one gender, the easier it is to become it.

** [[spoiler: He can also get magic marks, since it technically doesn't count as his own spell and he doesn't need as much magic energy due to the overload in ambient energy.]]
* {{Magitek}}: The prime source of it in comic. The TF Gun runs on it, [[spoiler: as does his gauntlet]].
* MadScientist:

* MySignificanceSenseIsTingling: Has the ability to sense whenever girls he knows have moments of sexy awesomeness or nearly have that kind of moment.
* NoodleIncident: It's implied in pre-CerebusRetcon strips that he's done '''weird''' stuff to Elliot over the years, to the point that Elliot learned a [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2003-11-24 self-hypnotic suggestion]] so he wouldn't FreakOut whenever he went to Tedd's house.

* WardrobeMalfunction: [[http://www.egscomics.com/egsnp.php?id=205 this is a possible result of dynamic morphs]], which has happened many times to him.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: His father has blue hair, and his mother's niece Nanase has red hair, so Tedd's purple hair is genetic. In the EGS universe, these colors are every bit as normal as brown or blonde. According to WordOfGod, Tedd was originally supposed to have black hair, but the artist wasn't skilled enough to make it look good in the early years. In one strip a random girl in the MNHS cafeteria refers to him as "that cute jelly-haired boy".

Grace is a part-human, part-alien, part-squirrel shapeshifter who lives with Tedd and his father. Entire story arcs have been dedicated to her DarkAndTroubledPast. Despite her history (and possibly being the most powerful character in the main cast), she maintains a positive, bubbly attitude and a strong belief in pacifism. She attends Moperville South with Ellen, Nanase, and Justin.
----

* ActionGirl: ''[[SuperpowerLottery Hell]]. [[LightningBruiser Freaking]]. [[UnstoppableRage Yes]].'' Just because Grace is a big ball of {{Moe}} in ''no'' way stops her from kicking ass when she gets going.
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Grace's gene-mother was unambiguously African-American, but Grace's features are rather more mixed (particularly her long straight hair), probably because of the admixture of other genes (including those not even of this world). WordOfGod is that he doesn't have any plans to clarify further and intends to keep it ambiguous.
* TheAtoner: She's getting better, but still has episodes.
* BadassAdorable: Grace is a cheerful girl whose cute in all her main forms, and she's so powerful that Shive has to jump though narrative hoops to prevent her from having a StoryBreakerPower.
* BigEater: Fueling her superhero-caliber powers requires [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-05-12 lots of calories]], apparently.
* BeastAndBeauty: Inverted.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She doesn't like to fight, but if [[BerserkButton her friends are threatened]], you're ''dead meat.'' Her vehemence on this subject is enough to worry three [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-09-06 uber-powerful anime-style martial artists]].
* BreakTheCutie: Throughout "Painted Black".
* BreastExpansion: Played with. As a shapeshifter, altering her chest size is no big deal, and she discusses with Greg whether it would be a good idea to just go completely flat during fights. Greg is too uncomfortable with the conversation to give her an answer, and next time she's fighting, her chest is still at its normal size.
** She later admits she alters her bust just to mess with the boys at the comics shop.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Is very ditzy and eccentric and has little idea of proper social norms, however, she is very smart and capable of stuff like programming the [=TF=] Gun.
* ChivalrousPervert: Of a sort. Grace is perfectly capable about frankly discussing aspects of shapeshifting that make even Tedd uncomfortable.
* CompositeCharacter: Both [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2004-03-10 in-universe]] and [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2004-07-16 out of it]].
* EmergentHuman: Very early on.
* EverythingsNuttierWithSquirrels: She's most comfortable in part-squirrel shape and takes it whenever she's in private at home. Although she tend to be in full human form; not because she prefers it, but because of three reasons:
** Human furniture isn't made with tails in mind ([[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2012-01-19 see for yourself]])
** Her antennae come with senses that are convenient to "turn off"
** Clothes on fur feels weird
* FetishFuel: Invoked. Grace can literally be everything Tedd has ever dreamed of, and more.
* {{Flanderization}}: Her bubbly innocent side was gradually cranked up while her role in the story was reduced until she appeared to be little more than a PluckyComicRelief character. Later arcs revealed she was putting up a bubbly front to cover some serious inner conflicts.
* GeniusDitz[=/=]TeenGenius: What can you say about a brilliant but unworldly girl who mops herself into corners? ''"Mopping is Tricky!"''
* GenkiGirl: Sometimes, but especially in the absence of angst.
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals: Grace has a stuffed squirrel, hedgehog, guinea pig, and bat that represent her and her siblings.
* HairAntennae: Used as a focus for her telekinesis and to [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2011-11-07 communicate with animals]].
* HalfHumanHybrid: Thanks to an alien race with a ''very'' strange breeding mechanism, she's technically a first-generation ''One Quarter'' human hybrid. ''And all four parents are different species''.
* HiddenDepths: It's been implied that Grace's bubbly, innocent exterior is a facade she maintains to repress the horrors in her past. And it's been [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-07-26 plainly]] [[WordOfGod stated]] that one never knows when she's genuinely bubbly and when she uses bubbles to mess with people for fun.
* HourglassHottie: In one panel, demonstrating her rather blase attitude towards transformation and body types.
-->'''Grace:''' Today feels like a "hippy" day.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: She had shades of this at first but quickly let go of this, and once she did start a normal school life with Ellen, Nanase, and Justin, she actually found it a little restrictive.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: At least until she's clued in to exactly the sort of impression she's been giving. Then it doesn't take her long to turn into a [[TheTease Calculating Fanservice Girl]], at least [[SingleTargetSexuality as far as Tedd is concerned]]. She [[LampshadeHanging hangs a lampshade]] on [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1169 her tendency sometimes]].
-->'''Grace:''' This is one of those things I'm apathetic about that everyone else finds creepy, isn't it?
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Accidentally suggests [[spoiler: Sam]], a trans man, is a BeardedLady. Given that the moment was shown in a flashback and she apparently understands what transgender means now, presumably [[spoiler: Sam]] explained the issue to her.
* LaserGuidedTykebomb: She was created specifically to defeat Damien.
* LightningBruiser: When she really tries and is more or less in [[ShapeshifterDefaultForm her natural form]], she moves too fast even for [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2002-07-18 experienced]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2002-12-17 martial artists]] to track. She fights much like a [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2004-04-22 rubber cannonball with claws]].
* MagicalGirlfriend: Grace is literally everything Tedd has wished for in a girl and more.
* MeaningfulName: Her last name is the Latin word for the family squirrels belong to.
%%* TheMessiah
* MindOverMatter: She uses it [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2002-11-26 a few]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2004-04-30 times]].
* OurWerebeastsAreDifferent: She's a were-''squirrel''.
* PingPongNaivete: In part, she still is a bit naive (she apparently doesn't know about Santa Claus); in part, she likes to play this even when she isn't.
* SingleTargetSexuality: And the target was the last to catch what's going on despite knowing the reasons.
* SuperSoldier: Created to kill Damien.
* TheTease: [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2008-05-19 Oh, yes]]. And uses her innate [[TheEmpath empathic]] ability, brains, and dedication to [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2003-05-14 know Tedd's tastes]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2006-08-07 better than Tedd knows himself]].
* UnskilledButStrong: It has been acknowledged in-universe that her two only real options in a fight are [[TalkingTheMonsterToDeath "Talk opponent down"]] and ''[[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown "Tear opponent to freaking shreds"]]''. A running subplot since Painted Black has been the ongoing efforts of the rest of the cast [[BoxingLessonsForSuperman to rectify this]]. This [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2011-09-07 seems]] to be a major part of her behaviour patterns.
-->'''Grace:''' ...I am ''not'' horrible at volleyball!\\
'''Ellen:''' Grace, you either dive for cover or launch the ball into orbit.\\
'''Grace:''' That's how I deal with most of my problems.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: To a degree notable In-Universe. She starts out with human, squirrel, and human/squirrel forms, but can gain new forms with the transformation gun. Furthermore, after being hit with the gun for the first time, her flawed shapeshifting is perfected, and she gains the ability to not only (effectively) alter her mass, but to mix and match different forms into "Legion" forms. Over the summer, Tedd uses the gun to give her countless new human forms with minor variations; by combining them in a variety of ways, she can approximate pretty much any form. Not only could she pass as pretty much any human on the planet if she's careful, but she can alter her body on the fly, such as shrinking her chest (big boobs are annoying in combat), increasing her muscles (obvious benefits, though her telekinesis will be more useful once she practices), and just adjust other features because she feels like it (apparently she once turned herself into an HourglassHottie because it felt like a "hippy" day).
* WideEyedIdealist: Is this in all things including [[InnocentFanserviceGirl nudity]].
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Her Claire form has green hair.

[[folder:Nanase]]
!!Nanase Kitsune (狐 七瀬 ''Kitsune Nanase'')

[[quoteright:317:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b9f3ad773d0e5ce79eb5824641a3e0b3.png]]

->[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2004-02-18 ''"It's hard to look bad-ass when you're using fairy powers."'']]

Nanase is Tedd's cousin. Martial Artist, magic user, all-around badass. Coming from an extremely strict and traditional household, she tends to over-think the potential problems until she makes a mountain out of a mole hill. Still, it's hard to find anyone less hard-working or dedicated than she is. She attends Moperville South with Ellen, Grace, and Justin.
----

* TheAce: Discussed in-universe by Tedd.
-->'''Tedd:''' She's athletic, smart, trilingual, can kick the ass of anyone who messes with her, is ''theoretically'' good looking enough that most people are nice to her by default ([[NoYay I wouldn't know because she's my cousin]]) and [[spoiler: when she's not burned out,]] she's an ''insanely'' potent magic user.
* ActionGirl: Apart from Grace and Super!Elliot, Nanase is by far the strongest out of the main cast, due to both her physical and magical prowess. As of the end of Sister II, [[spoiler: she temporarily burnt out her magic, but is still a very strong fighter without it]].
* AllLesbiansWantKids: ...[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2012-03-02 someday]]. Not that it would be a really big problem given that her cousin developed [[TransformationRay TF Gun]].
* AmazonianBeauty: Downplayed. She has noticeably larger biceps than other females, but Dan wants to avoid drawing her as overly muscular.
* BadassGay: She prefers girls, but was the only one that could beat Elliot at the Anime Style Martial Arts dojo, and is otherwise insanely powerful with her magic.
* BigEater: Capable of eating entire meals in mere minutes.
* BrokenAce: [[spoiler:She tried so hard to be great at magic and eventually succeeding with her "Angel Spell", but it broke her in the process, leaving her [[BroughtDowntoNormal magically burnt out]]]].
* BroughtDownToNormal: At the end of Sister II, she [[spoiler:burned out her magic for months]]. In the Tengu arc, [[spoiler:she got her magic back and promptly burned out again, but this time for a far shorter time. Currently back in casting mode]].
* BroughtDownToBadass: Even without her magic powers, she's still the top student at the dojo (a question of skill), and she can still bench press 160 pounds (she was pushing well over 200 when she had her magic). She didn't have any powers during the height of her "Meddling Teenager" adventures with Ellen and it's implied that she didn't have any problem kicking ass.
* ButNotTooWhite: Dan has darkened her skin color in Pandora's Box.
* CoolBigSis: Maybe not to the cast as a whole, but Akiko sure [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2007-03-17 seems to think so]].
* CuteBruiser: A five foot four girl who can bench press 160 lbs -- and complains about it because she used to be able to press 200.
* DeclarationOfProtection: She starts with trying to keep Ellen sane. Later her desire to save Ellen [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2009-09-27 gives]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2009-10-03 her]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2009-10-08 a]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2009-10-09 new]] [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome spell]].
* EffortlessAmazonianLift: Can shove around couches unassisted when asked for it.
* EverybodyKnewAlready: By the time she actually comes out to her friends, Tedd is the only one who doesn't know.
* FieryRedhead: [[spoiler:Formerly, for [[CharacterizationMarchesOn both]] [[PowerDyesYourHair parts]] of the trope. Nanase was much more HotBlooded before she burnt herself out dealing with Abraham. The resulting CharacterDevelopment coincided with her hair turning black. She's gained her magic since then, as well as her natural hair color, but she still seems a bit more mellow than she was.]]
* FlyingBrick: Angel-form.
* FreudianExcuse: Her overbearing mother is the reason for her closeted behavior (even though this is somewhat of an InformedAttribute).
%%* FunctionalMagic
* HonestyIsTheBestPolicy: [[spoiler:After nearly dying because of Abraham, she decides she doesn't want to die living a lie and decides to be as honest as she can be. This includes being open about her homosexuality, wearing the clothes she like and not lying to those close to her about as many things as possible without divulging government secrets or breaking TheMasquerade]].
* {{Gayngst}}: Clueless about her own orientation until Ellen acted as her ClosetKey, she promptly dove headfirst back into the closet because she feared her mother's reaction. She gets over it when it turns out her mother isn't so much upset as dismissive of what she sees as just a [[RomanticTwoGirlFriendship phase]].
* IncompatibleOrientation: with Elliot, though she was unaware of it at the time.
* KungFuWizard: Nanase is both the most powerful Martial Artist and the most powerful magic user of the cast because her magical power stems directly from the physical and spiritual discipline cultivated by her martial arts, and her magic provides her with superhuman combat abilities while also boosting her raw physical strength.
* LightningBruiser: Angel-form, in addition to being [[FlyingBrick steel tough]], flies ''very'' fast.
* LipstickLesbian: She is a Girly Girl and very Feminine.
* LookingForLoveInAllTheWrongPlaces[=/=]SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: [[spoiler:Before dating Elliot and eventually becoming an OfficialCouple with Ellen, she used to date quite a lot of guys. Enough to get a reputation, as one of her exes brings up.
* MeaningfulName: Kitsune are Japanese werefox tricksters.
** She nicknames her summoned double "[[StealthPun Fox]]".
** Animal family names aren't very common though...
** Nanase means Seven Currents, but it's also a fairly common Japanese name.
%%* MyBelovedSmother
* NoodleIncident: The school trip to Paris. Subverted when it is eventually explained in the Hammerchlorians arc.
* PowerDyesYourHair: [[spoiler:Inverted. Nanase's hair went black from ''losing'' her magic]].
* ReallyGetsAround: Dated nearly every boy in school hoping to find at least one she was attracted to. Makes for some awkward moments now.
-->'''Gerald:''' I should have known you'd run out of men in the school eventually.
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: Her mother's view of her relationship with Ellen.
* RuleAbidingRebel: A "[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2009-03-28 big act of defiance]]?," [[PokeThePoodle sure]]. She didn't expect her mother to take it so well. [[invoked]]
* SchoolGirlLesbians: With Ellen.
* SpotlightStealingSquad: Also With Ellen.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: When their hair style matches, Nanase and Tedd look uncannily similar. It is later confirmed that they both look like Noriko, Tedd's mother.
** WordOfGod declared that, when [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1693 Nanase]] [[DeathGlare glares]], the resemblance with her own mother [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1026 comes to surface.]]
* SupernaturalMartialArts: Even moreso than Elliot, and ''also'' trains as a magic user separately.
* ThemedHarem: ''[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2011-10-03 It's a coincidence!]]''
* TransparentCloset: Many a joke was made (mainly by Justin) about Nanase being a closeted lesbian before it was made official.

[[folder:Justin]]
!!Justin Tolkiberry

[[quoteright:157:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/d7313e36966f35ad6c80e82a6c84338e.png]]

->''[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-10-04 "Man, I suck at negotiating."]]''

Justin is an amiable, level-headed comic shop clerk and Nanase's best friend. Since Elliot is also the one who introduced him to Nanase and the rest of the main cast by extension, Justin feels a huge debt of gratitude and an unrequited crush towards him. He also suffers from a seemingly irresistible compulsion to mess with long hair, though he is bothered by the stereotype. He attends Moperville South with Grace, Nanase, and Ellen.
----

* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Regarding Elliot, due to IncompatibleOrientation.
* BadassGay: Despite being a martial artist, he never really had a chance to show-off. At least until he finally went toe-to-toe with a fire monster.
* BerserkButton: NEVER mention Melissa or Noah to him, ''especially'' if it's about forgiving her.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Sense a pattern here? Justin's [[SupernaturalMartialArts Anime-style martial arts]] prowess may not be up to Nanase's or Elliot's level (yet), but [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-09-27 push his amiability too far]] and you'll quickly discover he's still got SupernaturalMartialArts.
* CantCatchUp: Justin [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2004-08-18 may feel inadequate]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2004-08-20 compared to Nanase, Grace, and Ellen]], but later proves he can be quite {{Badass}} [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-09-27 when the situation requires it]].
* ComingOutStory: Was outed to the whole town by his former best friend Melissa (or more accurately, her sister) and still holds a grudge against her for it.
* {{Gayngst}}: After he was outed, he lost his best friend and was ostracized/bullied by most of his classmates. He implies to Susan [[spoiler:that [[DrivenToSuicide he was considering commit suicide]]]]. He felt completely alone until he met Elliot and Nanase.
* GentleGiant: One of the tallest members of the main cast, but as mentioned, prefers not resorting to violence.
* HeroicBuild: [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=2004 When he takes off his shirt for Luke]], it's revealed that he's absolutely ''ripped.''
* IncompatibleOrientation: With Elliot.
** Ironically enough, Elliot's ClarkKenting form may have this for Justin, while the reverse is true normally.
* {{Irony}}: When Justin was outed, Melissa was herself betrayed in exactly the same way he thinks she betrayed him.
* LetsGetDangerous: Justin tries to reason with the fire monster, but when it attacks, he instantly switches from amiable to badass.
* MeaningfulName and ShoutOut: A fan of ''Literature/TheLordOfTheRings'' and ''Franchise/StarTrek''.
* MoralMyopia: Has this for a good while regarding Melissa - it's true that she made a terrible mistake and hurt him terribly, but he took this further than she deserved. He gets better, though.
* ObliviousToLove: Completely fails to notice that Luke is interested in him. In fairness, Luke was also looking for info on Grace, but he still missed some very obvious signs.
* OutOfFocus: Beats out Sarah as the member of the main eight who gets the least spotlight, with the exception of the Birthday party arc involving his admitting his love for Elliot; the ''New Old Flames'' storyline appears to be his DayInTheLimelight.
* PowerTattoo: There was one on his back that he was unaware of. It's hinted that this may be why [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1153 his blows had more impact than when he was training in the dojo]]. He lost it -- but apparently not the perks it gave him -- when Pandora Awakened him. This caused some confusion, as Justin didn't know he had a mark ''or'' that he was Awakened, while Luke knew he could sense if people have marks, but hadn't learned to recognize the difference between someone who has a mark and someone who ''had'' a mark before Awakening.
* ProudToBeAGeek: An unabashed sci-fi and fantasy fan who works in a comics store? ''Of course'' he's this!
* RescueRomance: With Elliot, [[IncompatibleOrientation kinda]].
* SecretKeeper: He knows what the main cast is up to and refuses to share details after George started putting things together. Not only that, Justin knows the identity of the mysterious cloaked figure and hasn't told anyone in the main cast. Given his history, is this any surprise?
* ShipTease: In "Squirrel Prophet" he was being [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1899 spending time with- talking with]] Luke. Of course, Grace is the [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1894 first one in seeing the potential]].
* StraightGay: From his long list of attributes (including fantasy-geek and martial artist) the only parts of his character that give the impression that he's gay are his pierced ear and love of long hair.
** This backfires on him during ''Squirrel Prophet'' when Luke assumes that he's straight.
* SupernaturalMartialArts: Though he's not nearly as powerful as Nanase or Elliot, he's no longer someone to be trifled with.
* TookALevelInBadass: Justin, after entire arcs of being one of the only main characters not showing [[WhereDoesHeGetAllThoseWonderfulToys wonderful toys]] or superpowers other than his illusion exercises, knocks back a flame golem [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-09-27 with his bare fists]] then kicks it [[PunchedAcrossTheRoom over a hundred feet]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-10-08 into a river]]. May have something to do with [[spoiler:his new -- though quickly gone -- PowerTattoo as his blows [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1153 have a lot more power than they did training at the dojo]]]].
* WhatTheHellHero: Ellen [[DeathGlare gave him a stink eye]] and vicious chewing-out after he snapped at Elliot for even ''daring'' to look at things from Melissa's perspective -- she makes it clear that while his grudge is understandable, snapping at his friends when they only have his best interests at heart is unacceptable
** [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2011-03-30 Then there's his Yoda t-shirt that basically says that while he had a right to be disappointed in Melissa, he was taking the whole thing a bit to far.]]

[[folder:Susan]]
!!Tiffany Susan Pompoms

[[quoteright:267:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c14842d16897747285b56fe8fb7235c7.png]]

-->''[[http://www.egscomics.com/egsnp.php?id=267 "No zombies!"]]''

The group's resident cynic, Susan (as she prefers to be called) was introduced in the comic as Sarah's man-hating best friend who would often give Eliot and Tedd grief. Interacting with the rest of the cast (and exploring her own history) has improved her opinion of the male gender to a strong degree, but she still maintains a high level of snark. She lives with her mother in a three-story house, works in a video store, and is the founder of Moperville North's Feminist Club.
----

* ActionGirl: Not as much so as, say, Grace or Nanase, but Susan's the only member of the main cast who's at all proficient with a weapon, and [[spoiler: she actually ends up being the deciding factor in the abomination fight during her and Nanase's trips to France.]]
* {{Adorkable}}: [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2012-03-16 That]]'s what we get to see when she's not in the Hammer Queen role. [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1773 Or when she tries being more social]].
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: She has ([[CharacterDevelopment at least at first]]) a distinctly cynical attitude which leads her to habitually set herself apart from most people. In fact, her using her middle name and (again, at first) dying her hair dark blue are a part of her rejection of the EveryoneLovesBlondes template.
* {{Asexuality}}: Susan is heavily hinted to be in [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2011-07-25 one of the Q&As]], but while [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2012-03-30 she nearly defines herself as such]] at one point, she later [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1588 admits that she does feel attracted to some men.]]
* AttractiveBentGender: [[EvenTheGuysWantHim A rare male case]].
* BareYourMidriff: in early appearances, not so much lately.
* BirthdayHater: It's on New Year's Day, and she reasons that celebrations will still be going on with or without her, whether her mother spoils her or not.
* BrokenBird: On several levels.
* CovertPervert: [[spoiler:She actually considered Catalina kissing Elliot ''[[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1749 sexy]]''.]]
* CrazyPrepared: She had Tedd scan her into the TF gun as a backup in case someone transforms her permanently and there's no other way of fixing it.
-->'''Nanase:''' You let ''Tedd'' make a ''clone form'' of you!?\\
'''Susan:''' After New Year's? Of course I did. You ''haven't?''\\
'''Nanase:''' Well, ''yeah'', but I'm his "ugly cousin!"
* CrushBlush: She's become increasingly prone to these towards [[spoiler: Elliot, now that he and Sarah have broken up.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2002-12-10 Sometimes]] and [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2002-12-16 again]]. {{Lampshaded}} [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-08-05 here]].
* DefrostingIceQueen: In the beginning, she was aloof and snarky but eventually, she opened up and is more cheerful.
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: Early comics gave Susan a free pass to clobber men with magical hammers as long as she was defending women (or Tedd, who may be just that girly.) Justified later when the creator of the hammers explicitly says that they were designed to be a "painful but harmless" way for women to retaliate against inappropriate comments.
* DyeHard: In-universe. She dyes her naturally blonde hair to a dark blue color. [[spoiler:Until her angst-induced awakening that caused dramatically to her hair to be naturally dark blue.]]
* EmbarrassingFirstName: She much prefers "Susan", thank you very much. [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2003-04-25 She thinks]] that "Tiffany Pompoms" sounds too much like a "[[DumbBlonde stereotypical cheerleader]]."
* ExpositoryHairStyleChange: An important element of her backstory that's revisited periodically over the course of her CharacterDevelopment.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: With [[spoiler: Elliot]]. Not only do each of the main characters have at least some inkling of it, but [[spoiler: the [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2013-04-23 in-universe fandom for their movie review show ships them.]]]]
* FagHag: She's close friends with Justin and even admits that she likes him because he will never feel any sexual attraction for her.
* FanonDiscontinuity: [[invoked]] Susan has ''strong opinions'' about the ''Franchise/StarTrek'' films.
* FreakOut: In a seemingly mind-boggling -- though [[ItMakesSenseInContext understandable in context]] -- case of overreaction. When she was told that she just didn't get an old joke.
* FreudianExcuse: [[spoiler:Caught her father with an undressed woman who was ''not'' her mother]].
* HatesBeingTouched:

'''Susan:''' I've never had to call in sick.\\
'''Tensaided:''' As you were.
** [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1773 She's working on it, though]].
* HyperspaceArsenal: It's a physical box, but she can summon the contents from anywhere.
* HyperspaceMallet / DropTheHammer: Her weapon of choice.
* IcyBlueEyes: As seen in [[http://www.egscomics.com/sketchbook.php?id=730 this colorized sketchbook entry]].
* IncompatibleOrientation: First with Justin, later with Catalina.
** She later tries to rationalize her interest towards Justin as [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2012-03-30 being attracted to someone who wouldn't be attracted to her]].
* InsistentTerminology: [[spoiler:It's never that she "likes" or "has a crush on" Elliot; she always says "attracted to", as she considers it nothing but primitive instincts.]]
* LockedIntoStrangeness: [[spoiler:She used to dye her naturally blonde hair dark blue... until her magical powers awakened, at which point dark blue dramatically ''became'' her "natural" color]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She may be cold, at least at first, but she does care about her friends.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: In a nice subvertion, since she's not as GenkiGirl or CloudCuckoolander as the general examples, but [[spoiler:Elliot]] admits she's a [[PluckyGirl beautiful, strong, intelligent woman]] who's fun to be with, challenge him and introduces him to cool new things.
* MomentOfWeakness: Panicked the first time she saw Nanase use her Fairy Doll spell and, in the process of getting help, blurted out to the others the personal issues they had been talking about.
** When asked for a date by a ''guy'', Susan marvelously freaked out: waving her hands, spitting out a bunch of lame excuses to ultimately run away.
* NeatFreak: Set phasers to ''[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-05-17 sanitize]]''. And [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2003-07-10 get your ugly butt off her kitchen counter]].

* PowerTattoo: The [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2005-10-05 Venus symbol on her back]] is a [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-05-26 magical mark]].
* ProudToBeAGeek: Do you know she likes ''Franchise/StarTrek'' ''[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2013-01-16 very much]]''?
* RealWomenNeverWearDresses: In-universe; she considers skirts nothing more than men's easy visual access to women's panties, and when a uniform code was enforced on Moperville North, she went with the male's uniform so she could keep wearing pants. The only skirt she'd even consider wearing is that of the original Star Trek women's uniform, and even then only so Elliot [[spoiler:[[IfItsYouItsOkay (and only Elliot)]]]] could tease her about it for their web reviews.
** It's probably a sign of major character development that she is willing to use [[WreckItRalph Vanellope Von Schweetz]] as an online avatar. though the image of Susan wearing Vanellope's miniskirt attracted surprisingly little commentary from the fanbase.
* RunningGag: Hammers, spontaneous changes in hair color.
* ShipTease:
** She gets some with a lot of characters, including Ellen (when she got zapped with her V5 beam), Catalina (who actually asked her out), Justin (who [[spoiler:she made out with when they were both gender flipped]]), Matt Cohen (who also asked her out), and even [[spoiler:''Elliot'']].
** [[spoiler: Elliot eventually becomes involved in a relationship with Ashley, and Susan is okay with this. * SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: [[spoiler:Susan's motive to be attracted to Elliot and, let's admit it, Elliot is the best candidate for Susan's love interest. ** The sugar side is best portrayed by the fairy doll from Nanase that acts on her subconscious.
* SummonToHand: Any of the items stored in her [[HyperspaceArsenal Summon Chest]].

->''[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2004-11-17 "That crazed look could have meant any number of things!"]]''

Elliot's more outgoing OppositeSexClone created through magic. She originally thought she only had a few days to exist and decided to be a villain about it, but the revelation that she was here to stay caused her to lighten up. She inherited Eliot's magical aptitude, although most of her spells revolved around "spreading her curse" by turning her targets into sexy women. She attends Moperville South with Grace, Justin, and Nanase.
----

* BadassGay: She inherited all of Elliot's martial arts abilities and magical potential. She really gets a chance to show it off against Tengu.
* BewareTheNiceOnes:
** Do NOT mock Grace in Ellen's presence; the resulting death glare alone was enough to stun two other girls into silence.
** Even Justin was not safe from her wrath after he upset her brother.
** Vlad should consider himself lucky Ellen didn't kill him after he nearly killed Nanase.
* BiTheWay: There have been times when Ellen's bisexuality has shown through, even though she's currently in denial about it. Most of her memories are Elliot's so she's rather weirded out by the idea of being attracted to men, her biological sex notwithstanding.
** After brushing up on her terminology, she now identifies as a bisexual homoromantic, meaning she can be sexually attracted to either gender but is only romantically attracted to girls.
* BigSisterInstinct
** Towards Elliot whenever he's feeling down.
** Elliot's ChronicHeroSyndrome pales before Ellen's behaviour. She's ''very'' uninhibited and shows [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2002-09-25 extreme]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2004-04-12 protectiveness]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2008-01-08 toward]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2011-02-28 everyone]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2011-09-14 close]] to her.
* BroughtDowntoNormal: [[spoiler:By copying Nanase's Angel spell, she's powerless for at least a day. And blonde]].
* BrutalHonesty: She calls Elliot out on his [[spoiler: [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2013-03-12 motives behind his failed relationship with Sarah]].]]
* ConflictBall: Off and on; demonstrated best when completely apropos of nothing she cornered Tedd and started yelling at him about wanting to help Nanase, revealing that she has seriously conflicted feelings about Tedd.
* ChivalrousPervert
* CloningBlues: played straight at first, but mostly subverted in the long run.
* ClosetKey: For Nanase.
* DefrostingIceQueen: She started with the memories of Elliot. After fully expecting to die in a month and then getting over the identity problem she embraced "live today" attitude.
* DivergentCharacterEvolution: [[http://danshive.tumblr.com/post/15312804406/if-you-went-back-in-time-and-were-starting-egs-again#notes From Elliot, it's gotten to the point that Dan himself would rather her just be Elliot's twin sister]].
* DressedToKill: When she tries to act as Elliot's EvilTwin.
* EvilTwin: ''Tries'' to be one during her initial CloningBlues crisis, but doesn't really manage to pull it off.
* ExpendableClone: Felt like one long after the other characters had accepted her as a person in her own right. Subverted, as she went on to become a major character.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: Ellen's gradually lengthening hair symbolizes her growing acceptance of herself as a real person and a girl.
* FirstLawOfGenderBending: Both her current status, and that she can inflict it on others.
* HalfIdenticalTwin: According to her cover story (she's actually a clone.)
* HotBlooded: She shares Elliot's hot temper but exhibits less control over it.
* HypocriticalHeartwarming: Her typical approach to Elliot ("You're like me if I were being directed by George Lucas.") Elliot actually gets more upset when she ''doesn't'' tease him because he feels guilty she got created (and stuck as a girl) in the first place.
* IfYouEverDoAnythingToHurtHer: She said it to Tedd [[spoiler:[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2011-09-14#comic when he offered to study Nanase]]]].
* JumpingTheGenderBarrier: As someone on the WMG page put it, Ellen's problems derive more from not being ''Elliot'' than being female, which she doesn't seem to mind terribly.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: [[spoiler:She mentions how quickly she got over not being with Sarah. The fact that she considered Sarah a sister was why]].
* MostCommonSuperpower: Her body is based on "[[HelloNurse Female Variant #5]]" (designed by Tedd), so she's probably the best endowed of the cast. And since that is her default form, the "Female Variant #5" modification gets applied again ''[[UpToEleven on top of it]]'' whenever [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2002-12-16 she]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2003-01-08 zaps]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2008-04-11 herself]].
* NoBisexuals: In denial, perhaps to show solidarity with Nanase and perhaps because of an incident in her [[ItMakesSenseInContext dream life]], though she has also claimed that that she feels squicked by the way her admitted attraction to men was artificially grafted onto her personality by the transformation gun.
* OfficialCouple: With Nanase. It has become even more official after the arc ''Sister II''.
* OppositeSexClone: Of Elliot.
* PokeThePoodle: After she was first created she tried to be Elliot's EvilTwin but failed miserably.
* SchoolGirlLesbians: With Nanase.
* SiblingRivalry: Ellen ''lives'' to tease Elliot -- but god help anyone who actually hurts his feelings.
* SpotlightStealingSquad: She and Nanase tend to be this.
* SupernaturalMartialArts: She got it in ready form from Elliot, with some extra power on account of being a magical creature.
* TangledFamilyTree: As seen [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2003-02-17 here]], it's... complicated. And that isn't even close to some of the fans' ideas. [[http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/4568/youmightbearedneck.png Here]] is her family tree. She was created magically instead of being born and can be thought of as having up to four mothers: one of which is also her twin brother, and father, two are mother figures and the fourth is her mother due to being her twin brother/father's mother. By the same logic, she has up to three fathers: one because he's a husband figure to one of her mother figures, one due to her biological relationship to her twin brother, and one due to being her twin brother/father's father. Also, by the same logic, she is dating her aunt, but that is only because of the biological relationship she has with one of Ellen's father figures, so it probably doesn't count. And Magus seems to be ''[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2005-06-06 another]]'' father, since he deliberately manipulated events that directly led to Ellen's creation.
* VerbalTic: Has picked up/inherited "Za?" from her brother/father.
* YoungerThanTheyLook[=/=]OlderThanTheyLook: Chronologically, she is less than a year old. Biologically, she is 17. In terms of memories and life experience, she has both Elliot's 17 years and around 18 years of alter-Ellen's dream life.

School Bully, Tedd's tormentor, and Elliot's nemesis.

* JerkJock: Is an athlete who bullies Tedd.
* TheBully: Picks on Tedd a lot because of how girly he looks.
* StupidSexyFlanders: Grace theorizes that Tony is upset by his own attraction to the feminine aspects of Tedd's appearance.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: With Elliot back at 3rd grade. And it's implied that their friendship ended in bad terms after Tony [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1760 gay-bashed]] someone.

[[folder:Matt]]
!! Matt Cohen

The Head of the Student Council. Because of his position, he often has to announce the latest "ideas" of the Principal.
----

* AmbiguouslyJewish: His last name and hairstyle suggest that he might be Jewish, though it hasn't been explicitly stated.
* BeleagueredAssistant: Implied. He seems to love his job, but he is not a fan of the Principal's school uniform idea.
* DeadpanSnarker:
** He's gotten in one snark. It wouldn't be very noteworthy, except it was toward Susan. Whether this a defining trait, remains to be seen.
** His speech about the uniforms was full of this, seemingly designed to get across his contempt for the system and the principal. Kind of impressive, given that these were ''after'' he was told to stick to the cards.
--->'''Matt:''' Black ties are encouraged but not required for uniforms, for reasons [[SarcasmMode surely]] [[SuspiciouslySpecificDenial not]] related to those costing extra.
* DoggedNiceGuy: Possibly... But considering Dan spent an extra comic because he didn't want to let Matt's intentions hang in the dark, it seems he's pure NiceGuy.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2007-09-14 This]] and [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2008-07-14 this]] turns out to be so for [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2012-03-06 this]]. All of this took place over the course of five years. Only Dan Shive, everybody...
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Matt seems to understand quite clearly that Susan doesn't want to date him, and respects it. When he hears that she's never dated at all, he gives an earnest piece of advice to think on whether or not she'd regret not dating in High School. Even if it's not with him, he just wanted to make sure Susan would be okay.

[[quoteright:174:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/egs_ponytailgirl_1346.png]]

An Asian girl introduced in the ''Identity'' story arc. A fan of Elliot's review show and Elliot himself.
----

* {{Adorkable}}: Shows signs of it [[spoiler:on her date with Elliot. Between her rambling in a crappy defense of a bookstore, and [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=2042 this]], it's hard to not want to hug her.]]
* BiTheWay: Already attracted to Elliot just from watching his show with Susan, she became even more interested in him after learning he can turn into a female and back again. Tedd wonders if she's bi and Elliot's response is he doesn't know. A [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=2023 later strip]] confirms that at least ''one'' of her exes was a girl, making it pretty clear that she's bi, though she doesn't like using the term due to a general dislike of labels.
* BadLiar[=/=]BlatantLies: While she points out that Elliot only has her word to go on on this for now, her first appearances were transparent {{Tsundere}} reactions towards Elliot ''as a concept'', while alone no less, that made her attraction blatantly obvious even before her CrushBlush started showing. Not to mention blurting out that Elliot's GenderBender situation makes him ''more'' attractive to her. If nothing else, she's very bad at lying to herself.
* CovertPervert: She likes that [[spoiler:Elliot can transform into a girl]] because it reminds her of her favorite manga, ''Manga/RanmaOneHalf''.
* CrushBlush: [[http://www.egscomics.com/sketchbook.php?id=729 "I don't have a crush on you."]]

[[JerkassHasAPoint Susan concedes that he's not entirely wrong]], but she adds that at least most people who do it have decent intentions. According to her [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech Tom toys with the feelings of others for his own selfish reasons, or deeper still, for his own amusement. As a result, nobody trusts or likes him.]]
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Which is lampshaded when Tom was drawn in color.
* InformedAbility: What his alleged skills as a ManipulativeBastard become in the face of Susan. When she unknowingly hits him with a SpannerInTheWorks, she starts to pick up on his rather sad attempts to recover his footing. It goes so far that he ends up yelling that he is a fantastic liar. Understandably, Susan answers by saying that he isn't when the mark goes off-script.
* NiceGuy: Not really, it's an act.
* ManipulativeBastard: Ashley revealed that he is ''incredibly'' underhanded and emotionally manipulative when he wants something. Currently, that something is Susan. When he is outed, he claims that ''everyone'' is just as manipulative. Only for Susan to point out that manipulation isn't the problem, it's the intent behind it.

!!Students - Moperville South

[[folder:Diane]]
!!Diane

->''[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2007-06-19 "Elementary, my dear Lucy."]]''

The Queen Bee of Moperville South. She is often seen with Lucy and Rhoda, the latter of whom she is quite protective.
----

* AlphaBitch: Was portrayed like this early on, where her first appearance involved trying to get Nanase to sit with her at lunch so they could lure boys over to spend money on them, but then...
** LovableAlphaBitch: She got several PetTheDog moments, including comforting Rhoda and Grace when they were upset. Also, it turns out she secretly idolizes Nanase, implying there was more to her actions during her first appearance than she let on.
* DayInTheLimelight: During the "Family Tree" storyline, she played a much larger role than usual.
* TheDitz: ''Averted''. She can certainly act the part, and she's incredibly shallow, but she's certainly quite sharp and observant.
* DoesNotLikeMen: Not to Susan's (pre-character development) extent, but she does assume men are jerks until proven otherwise.
** This may be the reason why she is fixated on Elliot, who she overheard being described as very passive.
* EveryoneLovesBlondes: She's the Queen Bee of her group (and probably her whole school), the only blonde of her GirlPosse and has a reputation of having several boyfriends for GoldDigger reasons. [[spoiler:Another invertion of Susan, who was a natural blonde but refused to fuel the stereotype.]]
* GirlPosse: Lucy, Rhoda. Lucy fades into the background as time goes on, and she treats Rhoda more like a daughter, so she doesn't quite count in later comics.
* GoldDigger: Shamelessly. Her plan is to marry a kind, compassionate, rich guy who will obey her every whim.
-->'''Rhoda:''' What if you just fall in love with someone someday and they fall in love with you?\\
'''Diane:''' [[SillyRabbitRomanceIsForKids That's]] ''[[SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids adorable]]''.
** May be developing out of it, [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2013-06-05 but it shocked to the point of wanting to drink]] at that realization.
* IdenticalStranger: Distinguishable from Susan only by personality, fashion sense, and the fact that Susan is slightly taller later on.[[note]] and considering Susan had a slight growth spurt due to her magical awakening...[[/note]] They have the same face, the same build, the same voice, the same natural hair color, and they were apparently born only 20 minutes apart on New Year's. The subtext with her similarities to Susan is even more blatant [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2013-03-01 after the time skip]]: both girls have shown an interest in Elliot at the same time, although for drastically different reasons. While Susan has developed her friendship with Elliot by bonding over common interests, Diane apparently sees him as something to be used. During the Tengu arc, someone with magically-obtained knowledge on the subject has apparently confirmed (to the audience, at least) that the two are in fact identical twins separated at birth.
** DifferentAsNightAndDay: Susan and Diane have never met, and the two of them have almost diametrically opposed personalities.
* HappilyAdopted: if her relationship with her sister Rhea is any guide.
* HeteronormativeCrusader: She's not actively homophobic, but her heartlessly pragmatic approach to boys (they're for [[GoldDigger buying things]]) means that she has little use for gay boys (they won't buy her things, and will scare off boys who would). She's still amicable with her sister's gay friends, and has no problem hanging out with Nanase and Ellen even after they've been outed.
* INeedAFreakingDrink: Realising that [[spoiler:she may be developing ''real'' feelings for Elliot and ''wanting to have a real, romantic relationship'']] make her want to screw the rules and drink alcohol.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: At least when it comes to Rhoda.
* MamaBear: She punches out a reporter trying to get Rhoda to interview for a men's magazine.
* NeatFreak: [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2008-02-01 "OK, you had both better have clean hands!"]] Another coincidence with Susan?
* SherlockScan: Can immediately tell that Ellen and Grace are new students. In doing so, she gives a quick ShoutOut to [[Literature/SherlockHolmes the trope namer.]]
* {{Tsundere}}: ''Trying'' to play at this. [[EpicFail She's failing]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1840 horribly.]]
* WeirdnessCensor: She sees someone who looks ''exactly'' like her with blue hair... and doesn't even notice. When it's pointed out, she does admit there is some similarity, but doesn't see it as enough to get worked up over. [[spoiler: Although given that she deduces that Susan is her sister later based in part on that observation, it's likely that was denial talking.]]

* AnimalMotif: Rhoda is often compared to and treated like a puppy.
* BiTheWay[=/=]SchoolgirlLesbian: Dating Catalina. Whether bi or lesbian is sort of irrelevant at the moment.

[[folder:Melissa]]
!!Melissa

Justin's former best friend who outed him after he told her he was gay by thoughtlessly confiding in her blabbermouth sister, and who hasn't exactly repaired their relationship with her subsequent behavior.
----

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Invoked. Justin tells Susan that Melissa is a SmugSnake who almost destroyed his life. Noah tells Elliot that Melissa is a [[TragicHero tragic heroine]] who nearly destroyed her own life as well. Their respective stories are pretty consistent in the details, it's just that Justin seems to hold her more responsible than he does her sister and is thus less willing to forgive her.
* TheAtoner: See SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong below.
* ClingyJealousGirl: See PsychoExGirlfriend below.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: She got a surprising CrowningMomentOfAwesome by [[spoiler:jumping between knocked down "Cheerleadra" and a monster and ''trying to stare it down'']].
* HiddenDepths:
** Dan claims that her referring to Series/MythBusters is a subtle hint of this.
** Less subtly, she said her faith in Noah was based on seeing how he had beaten ''something'', compared to which a bulldog faced fireball-breathing dragon the size of a half truck is a misbehaving pup. Which also explains her treatment of it.
* IncompatibleOrientation: She's still attracted to Justin, but it certainly isn't mutual. [[spoiler: It's strongly implied that she's gotten over it as of the end of "New and Old Flames".]]
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Eventually gets the hint that Justin wants nothing to do with her, and promised to leave him alone. Doubles as a TearJerker as it comes from the realization/belief that if it took Justin this long to forgive her, then they probably shouldn't and won't be friends again anyway.
* LastHetRomance: Justin's first, last and only ''girl''friend
* LoveMakesYouCrazy[=/=]LoveMakesYouDumb: Pick the one you prefer. When her obsession with Justin kicks in, she acts like a complete lunatic unless she [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2011-04-04 remembers]] to DopeSlap herself out of it.
** PsychoExGirlfriend: An annoying example... Except that it's been revealed that her motives are a bit more complex than that. Not to mention that she is fully aware that her attempts to win over Justin are pointless and do nothing but make her come off as annoying and quite possibly psychotic, but can't seem to stop herself.
* RetCon: Originally, she was just some girl who Justin dated once and who wouldn't let go, but later became a childhood friend who had been in love with him for a long time, making her story more tragic.
* SecretKeeper: [[spoiler:Knows about Noah's powers as she knew screaming would bring him to fight a dragon-like monster.]]
* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong: Noah believes that Melissa has deluded herself into thinking she can make everything right again by winning Justin back.

* BestServedCold: [[spoiler:He trained for years to kill Damien to avenge someone long dead]].
** RevengeBeforeReason: In a throwaway gag, he reveals that he was looking into [[spoiler:selling his soul for power]] before Raven dissuaded him.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He speaks formally in order to control his temper, which is [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2011-01-31 apparently pretty bad if pushed too far]].
* CampStraight: His speech and mannerisms might point to homosexuality but he has a girlfriend.
* CannotTellALie: Lending credence to his AlternativeCharacterInterpretation of Melissa.
* ChekhovsGunman: First appeared six years before his formal introduction.

[[folder:George]]
!! George

An average nerd and Justin's coworker at the comic book shop.
----

* AmbiguouslyGay:
** There are some only slightly ambiguous hints that George has a crush on Justin, but this isn't confirmed and could be a RedHerring. All of the signs (except perhaps for one) could realistically be due to other reasons.
** In one of the "Summer Moments" comics, [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1821 George has a pretty curious expression]] towards two guys going out to the movies with each other. It is still pretty ambiguous.
** And finally [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=2000 confirmed here]], with the commentary even stating that, for some readers, it was [[EveryoneCanSeeIt a "FINALLY" moment]].
* AuthorAvatar: He parrots what Dan says a lot in the commentary and interrupted a Q&A in comic to act as his mouth piece. However, he's not solely existent for that. Dan's actual AuthorAvatar has shown up less since he was created, though.
* {{Fanboy}}: A parody of opinionated geeks as a straight-up {{Expy}} of the Comic Book Guy from ''TheSimpsons''.
* FanonDiscontinuity: Invoked: George feels this way about StarWars ep. 1-3.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's rude and obnoxious, but not actually a bad person, and surprisingly generous with honest advice. Sarah sums him up as a "giant rude [[Franchise/StarWars Yoda]]."
* MetaGuy: The reason he was created.
* ShipperOnDeck:
** Possibly; repeatedly refers to Elliot as Justin's boyfriend, but maybe he's just being sarcastic... or jealous.
** Given [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2011-06-23 this comic]] and the commentary regarding LandmarkSale, it's pretty obviously jealousy.

!!Mr. Tensaided

Susan's, and (during the summer) Elliot's, boss at the video rental store. A huge nerd who has an entire leveling system for his employees, he was unimpressed with Elliot's unfamiliarity with movie references and only hired him because Susan told the half-truth that Elliot knows Cheerleadra. Is bombastic and hammy, and rather obsessed with the things he's a fan of.
----

* {{Fanboy}}: Perhaps even more so than George, in presentation though he's a lot more enthusiastic rather than snarky but angers easy when people don't get references he makes whereas George would just snark them.
* GracefulLoser: He's a {{Munchkin}} [[MinMaxing Min-Maxer]] who is often sure of his strategies (and to his credit, [[InsufferableGenius he's pretty good]]), but he'd be the first to admit defeat when it happens, even by luck.
* IncomingHam: Tends to make an entrance with a loud booming voice or a quote of some sort.
* InformedAbility: He's never actually ''won'' a game on-panel.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold:
** He was more than willing to let Grace borrow his Star Wars [=DVDs=] regardless of winning or losing against Justin (he just made the wager to beat him in a card game). He also offered her to join his roleplay group.
** During the card game storyline of "Squirrel Prophet," he taunted Sarah for not considering "a deck to win the game". When Sarah won their match, Tensaided made a loud and dramatic declaration that she is "a true geek", mostly to make sure she wouldn't get picked on by the more abrasive geeks like Larry and Rich.
** And then, after Sarah defeats Larry, he gives him a piece of his mind after hearing him treat Sarah so poorly.
* TheKnightsWhoSaySquee: A big fan of Cheerleadra.
* MundaneUtility: He hit upon a way to turn Elliot's ignorance of movies into an asset by turning Susan's education sessions into a web show.
* PunnyName: Tensaided's name is derived from the ten-sided [[DontExplainTheJoke dice used for role playing games]]. It doesn't carry a particular deep meaning other than the fact that he's a nerd.
* ShoutOut: Likes to pepper his speech with movie quotes, like when he quoted ''Film/{{Ghostbusters}}'' to describe Elliot's worthiness for a summer job.
* SitcomArchNemesis: For Justin, who he believes lacks sufficient respect for old-school gamers and gaming. Probably not all the time, but certainly during game nights.

[[folder:Luke]]
!!Luke

A freshman in college and former ''Magickal Gatherings'' nerd with a PowerTattoo that gives him AuraVision. Shows up in "Squirrel Prophet Part 2" to get a look at Justin's aura, and ends up competing in the tournament.
----
* AmbiguouslyGay: He left his old comic shop due to homophobia. Take into account the ShipTease with Justin, and it's pretty clear.
* AuraVision: Implied to come from his tattoo. He's not precisely sure what it does, just that it lets him see auras, that people with powers like his have slightly larger auras and that he can apparently -- in usual circumstances, at least -- tell if someone has a mark or not ([[spoiler: he has not learned to recognize the difference between someone who has a mark and someone who ''had'' a mark yet]]). He doesn't really know what it means when he gets blinded from trying to look at [[spoiler:Tedd]].
-->'''Luke:''' Was that even an aura? Was it from that guy? Or that pink haired guy? Or something I can't see? Oh my god we're dealing with magic ''it could totally be something I can't see''.
* BerserkButton: He was originally planning to lose his first game as fast as possible without making it obvious that he wasn't trying to win. [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1876 That went out the window when Rich called his fairy gay]].
* EatingTheEyeCandy: "''[[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=2004 Abs...]]''"
* NotDistractedByTheSexy: He disapproves of Slave Leia in ''Return of the Jedi'', because he finds it pointless and an insult to her character. Grace uses the fact that he didn't drool all over her to prove to Justin that he's gay.
* PlayerArchetypes: In standard ''Magic'' terminology, he's a Spike, the guy who plays to win. He's something of a retired example (so to speak) due to problems with his old comic shop, but even when he's trying to lose, he ends up constructing a powerhouse deck almost by accident that [[CurbStompBattle completely curb-stomps Rich]] when he decides to play for real.
* PowerTattoo: Implied to have one of the random tattoos Pandora's been handing out. His gives him AuraVision.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sam]]
!!Sam

One of the regulars at the comic book shop. He's recognisable by his excessive number of pockets and his tiny little beard. Turns out he's actually a transgender man.
----
* AscendedExtra: Not Sam himself, but rather his appearance was originally that of a nameless extra before Dan decided he liked it and made it Sam's.
* BeardedLady: Grace mistakes him for one in a flashback. When he catches her staring at him, she apologizes and innocently says "It's just I thought only ''boys'' could grow be--" before he shuts her up.
** [[spoiler: It's later revealed to be fake.]]
* CrazyPrepared: He really likes his pockets. After the reveal that he's trans, it becomes clear that they're at least partly to hide his any feminine figure he might have.
-->'''Tedd:''' What ''do'' you have in those pockets?\\
'''Sam:''' Anything I could possibly need ever.
* GenderBlenderName: Invoked. He gives Tedd some quick advice on choosing a more ambiguous name on the assumption that he's male-to-female transgender.
* {{Transsexual}}: Female-to-male.

[[folder:Rich]]
!!Rich

A regular at the comic shop. Close friends with Larry.
----
* AbhorrentAdmirer
* CasanovaWannabe
* ConspiracyTheorist: Alien conspiracy to be precise. The irony is that he's close to the truth but misses the point : aliens do exist but the real menace is a magical/mythical one ; he suspects Tedd of being an alien but doesn't notice anything about his girlfriend.
* FatIdiot
* HeteronormativeCrusader: Constantly throws out homophobic slurs, and even tells Larry that it would matter to him if he was gay.
-->'''Rich''': What if you hit on me or something?\\
'''Larry''': That's really not something you'd need to worry about.
* {{Jerkass}}: [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1081 Right from]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1082 his first appearance]].
* StrawMisogynist
* ThoseTwoGuys: At first.

[[folder:Larry]]
!!Larry

A regular at the comic shop. Close friends with Rich.
----
* AbhorrentAdmirer: Albeit not quite as much as Rich.
* CasanovaWannabe
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Potentially. While he was exactly as rude as Rich in their first appearance together, he's at least shown since that he can be taught. And there's something strangely admirable about the fact that [[spoiler:he wasn't turned off pursuing Tedd romantically when he came to the conclusion he was a gender-switching alien]].
* ThoseTwoGuys: At first.
* TookALevelInKindness: During the card game tournament, he takes all the pointers on his bad behaviour to heart and not only apologizes directly to Sarah and Tedd for it, but promises to work on bettering himself so he doesn't do stuff like that again.

!Villains

[[folder:Guineas]]
!!Guineas

[[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=509 50% guinea pig 50% human]] hybrid and the "oldest" of Grace's brothers. Stays in his hybrid form most of the time, in which he is unable to speak any human language. He isn't shown to be particularly bright or strong. He seems to be willing to take orders from Damian, but he also reports to Hedge on the side.
----

%%* TheBigGuy
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:Once Damien is gone, he willingly goes with the authorities to be evaluated if he is fit for release as a normal citizen]].
* TheGuardsMustBeCrazy: Too busy cleaning out his ears to notice Elliot slips his bonds (and clothes) via shapeshifting.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: When his brothers are having climactic combat showdowns with the protagonists, Guineas engages Ellen... in a thumb war (and loses!)
* MrFanservice: The sight of his fully human form prompts Ellen and a female soldier to [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2004-06-21 stare openmouthed and high-five]].
* ObfuscatingStupidity: He may seem dim-witted but he quickly notices a slip-up on Elliot's part which Damien didn't notice.
* OurWerebeastsAreDifferent: He is part man and part guinea pig.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: With some pain, he can shift between his human form and his human-guinea pig hybrid form.
* TheUnintelligible: His siblings understand him, but for everyone else it's rendered as "Squeek! Squee squee *snort* squee?"

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Hedge]]
!!Hedge

[[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=509 25% hedgehog, 75% human]] hybrid and the self-appointed "Big Brother" of Grace's animal-hybrid family. Spent most of his first appearances spying on Grace and her friends before he kidnapped Elliot (who he thought was another hybrid). Spends most of his time in his human form, as his hedgehog form can't speak.
----

* DeadpanSnarker: On occasion.
-->'''Hedge:''' [[Series/{{Lassie}} Who is Timmy and how did he fall down the well?]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:Surrenders peacefully after Damien is defeated]].
* OurWerebeastsAreDifferent: Is part man and part hedgehog.
* RunningGag: Hedge, master of the anti-climactic moment. Also, Owls.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Can shapeshift between his human form and human-hedgehog hybrid form with only some pain.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Vlad]]
!!Vlad/Vladia

Bat/falcon/leopard/alien/human hybrid and the final brother introduced in the comic. The giant mix-match of creatures used to create him made his first attempt at transforming a life-threatening experience, so he decided to stay in his hybrid form permanently, even though he hates being seen as a freak. This lasted until he got turned into a girl by Ellen's beam, so now s/he's decided to stick with that form just so s/he can look normal.
----

* DeadpanSnarker: Towards Grace.
* FirstLawOfGenderBending: [[spoiler:Restoring her original form is theoretically possible, but she considers it too risky]].
* GenderBender[=/=]InvoluntaryShapeShifting: [[spoiler:Courtesy of Ellen, [[HumanityEnsues not that he minds]]]].
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Delivers a verbal version to Grace for her refusal to enter her half-squirrel form after she [[UnstoppableRage lost control]] against Damien, insisting that she should feel no guilt harming someone who was beyond redemption, especially when he [[TakingYouWithMe threw away]] her offer to surrender. He states that he would apply the standard physical version of this trope if they weren't talking over computers.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:After Damien is defeated, she peacefully leaves with the authorities for evaluation for release as a citizen]].
* HatesBeingTouched: This is how Hedge is certain that it was Vlad after the [[spoiler:GenderBender]].
* HumanityEnsues: courtesy of Ellen.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Didn't like seeing Grace get hurt, and snaps her out of a HeroicBSOD.
* OurWerebeastsAreDifferent: As in human/bat/falcon/leopard/Uryuom hybrid.
* SecondLawOfGenderBending: [[spoiler:Interestingly, the only straight example thus far: "I've never been a man in my life as far as I'm concerned!"]]
* ShapeshifterModeLock: [[spoiler:With a twist. Vladia invokes this as a personal choice, as she only wants to stay human forever]].
* {{Tsundere}}: Haven't seen the dere side outwardly, but seems to be the part.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Sort of. He was designed as a shapeshifter, but it almost killed him the only time he tried it, so he stayed in his man-bat form [[spoiler:until Ellen transformed him. After he was transformed, he decided being human was more important than being male]].

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Damien]]
!!Damien

One of the first {{Big Bad}}s in the series. Damien is a murderous Chimera with fire-based powers and a messiah complex. He wants to create an army of chimeras with him as their king.
----

* AGodAmI: Damien believes he was summoned to Earth to be the Messiah of the Chimera. The realization that he isn't triggers his VillainousBreakdown.
* AxCrazy: Killed everyone in the lab Grace was born in, wanted to massacre Earth's population, and was getting ready to kill Grace's friends before [[UnstoppableRage she lost her temper]].
* BigBad: Of the Painted Black Arc.
* FlyingBrick: [[WreathedInFlames On fire]].
* HealingFactor: His wounds heal quickly, [[spoiler: most of the time, anyway]].
* HeelRealization: [[spoiler: When fighting Grace, Damien begins to realize that, while if he was a god, his actions might have been justified, [[TautologicalTemplar since a god can do what they please,]] but if he was only a mortal, then that would mean that he was nothing but a mass murderer, and that nothing he could ever do would make up for all of the terrible things he did.]] This realization is what started his VillainousBreakdown.
* PlayingWithFire: Can fire flames from his hands.
** WreathedInFlames: And can also shroud himself in fire.
* SelfDisposingVillain: For someone undergoing VillainousBreakdown and batshit insane to begin with, it's sort of {{justified|Trope}}.
* SuperStrength: Has incredible strenght which when combined with his fire abilities and regeneration, lets him win most battles on pure brute force.
* TakingYouWithMe: [[spoiler:Attempts to do this with Grace but Nioi managed to foil him]].
* TautologicalTemplar: Deconstructed. He believes that [[AGodAmI as a god]] he has an OmniscientMoralityLicense and is [[spoiler:DrivenToSuicide upon realizing that he isn't one.]]
* UnskilledButStrong: [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2004-04-26 His fighting style is entirely based on his powers]]. Against someone immune to fire, and who can neutralize his healing factor, he is a complete amateur.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: As seen [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=911 here]].

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Abraham]]
!!Abraham

The creator of the Dewitchery Diamond that created Ellen. Abraham swore an oath to hunt down and destroy all new creatures created by the Diamond because, due to the nature of curses, those creatures tend to be vicious monsters. However, after learning that Ellen, the Diamond's latest creation, is an innocent human being (and is loved by her friends and family), he begins to question whether or not he is in the right anymore.
----

* AntiVillain: Especially towards the end of his arc.
* TheAtoner: First for making Dewitchery Diamond, then for trying to fix this problem too enthusiastically. [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2009-12-29 See for yourself]]. But he's still incorrigibly dramatic.
* BadassLongcoat: Uses magic to make himself one after he awakened from his statue.
* ChekhovsGunman: Was first mentioned in in the first Sister arc, but only appeared during Sister II.
%%* CoolOldGuy
* DidntThinkThisThrough: His defining trait. He enchanted the Dewitchery Diamond to separate a lycanthropic friend from his curse without considering the potential consequences, didn't think about things like the cosmetic use of magic when he swore that oath, and managed to forget that [[spoiler:Adrian Raven]] was a wizard while in the middle of fighting him. No wonder that two of two wizards who spoke of Abe called him "idiot."
%%* HeelRealization
* HeroAntagonist: in his own mind, at least.
* IdiotHero: Double deconstructed, if that's the right way to put it. First, because of his stupidity, he made his friend's condition worse instead of selling the gem to someone more skilled, and it only went downhill from there-that's the example they have written on the [[PlayingWith/IdiotHero Playing With A Trope page for Idiot hero]]. Then, because he was so stupid, he didn't think about cosmetic magic, such as, say, someone's best friend [[GenderBender turning them into a girl]] or something less drastic, such as a change of hair color, he came to the conclusion that he had to kill Ellen. It's not cute and funny, it's the cause of a horrifying KnightTemplar. I mean, he didn't even ''think'' to throw the damn diamond in a volcano. Was he even really trying?
* IGaveMyWord: This leads to the ToBeLawfulOrGood problem below.
* {{Kiai}}: Lets one out [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2009-07-08 here]].
* KnightOfCerebus: Despite his good intentions, he ''does'' bring a lot of tension to the Sister II arc by nearly killing Raven, Ellen and Nanase, the latter of which [[spoiler:temporarily lost access to her magic by stopping him]].
* KnightTemplar: Somewhat. He's fully aware that his goal is morally wrong, but [[IGaveMyWord feels that it has to be done regardless]].
* LawfulStupid: If it wasn't for his oath to [[spoiler:kill anything born from the Dewitchery Diamond]], he wouldn't even qualify as a villain.
* MeaningfulName: In Literature/TheBible, Abraham was commanded by God to sacrifice his own child, but at the last moment, an angel stopped him, announcing that God was just testing his faith. Now consider that Ellen was created by the Dewitchery Diamond, which means that Abraham is Ellen's father in a roundabout way. Now consider that his oath to God led him to try to kill Ellen. Now consider that [[spoiler:Nanase looked awfully angelic when she convinced Abraham to spare Ellen's life]].
* NecessarilyEvil: As a result of his oath, he feels that he has no choice but to kill Ellen for being created by his diamond.
* NeverLiveItDown: In-universe example. Apparently, "Every properly trained wizard has heard of Abraham, the idiot apprentice who recklessly enchanted a massive diamond instead of selling it to pay someone more skilled to fix his cursed noble friend."
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Has managed to live for several centuries with his statue spell.
* TakenForGranite: A voluntary version. He puts himself into suspended animation to prolong his life.
* ToBeLawfulOrGood: Abraham swore an oath to destroy anything spawned by the Dewitchery Diamond, and feels obligated to kill Ellen, even though he's very reluctant to harm any innocent people.

[[folder:Lord Tedd]]
!!Lord Tedd

AlternateUniverse version of Tedd, presumably in control of significant chunks of his dimension along with the ability to slip a few surprises into nearby ones.
----

* AlternateUniverse[=/=]AnotherDimension: Where he rules.
* ArtificialLimbs: Has what appears to be a prosthetic arm that can shoot energy blasts. Some fans have theorized that it's partly made of the TF gun that causes BodyHorror.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Hasn't been seen in (real world) years; has only been namechecked during the Sister II arc.
** {{Lampshaded}} [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2008-09-01 in this comic]].
* EvilOverlord: His apparent job, along with General Shade Tail, his [[TheDragon Dragon]], and Nioi. Though we're not sure to what extent.
* GameFace: Tedd's identical gauntlet reveals what the thing with his eyes are. When turned on, his gauntlet makes him look REALLY evil. When off? He's Tedd.
* LoveRedeems: At least, [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2003-11-07 while looking for Nioi]], he looked like a more athletic version of "our" Tedd, as opposed to his maniacal look on Beta Tedd's photo and goo cell telemetery scene.
* NebulousEvilOrganization: We know absolutely nothing about his goals or what he's doing now.
* PunchClockVillain: Appears this way when looking for Nioi in his last appearance.

[[folder:Not-Tengu]]
!! "Not-Tengu"

A strange bat/ape monster with a penchant for mind control. Intelligent, powerful, and incorrigibly dramatic. Also spends too much time on the internet for his own good.

He went by "Tengu" as an online handle, but is admittedly not an actual tengu. What he actually is is a spoiler, so rigid rules forbids its mention in the description.
----

* AllMenArePerverts: For what other reason would Not-Tengu, aside mind controlling people, [[GenderBender turn the men into busty women]] [[{{Squick}} who look like Nanase]]?
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Calmly insists that he sees nothing wrong with mind control in the same way an omnivore might explain to a vegetarian why he doesn't have a problem with eating meat. The thing that makes it really creepy? [[spoiler: He is ''human'', and apparently used to be just an average jerk before stumbling on a way to use magic.]]
* DidntSeeThatComing:
** He anticipated Nanase, Ellen, and Charlotte not being enthralled by his mind control. He anticipated Nanase regaining her magic [[note]]"Big scary monster appears and you get your magic back" is basically the example people use to explain how you might get your magic back, so he'd have to be a complete idiot to miss that one[[/note]]. He anticipated [[spoiler:Nanase using her guardian form]]. He did not anticipate [[spoiler:Ellen using her clone beam to copy Nanase's guardian form]].
--->'''Not-Tengu:''' ...[[FlatWhat what]].
** He did not anticipate [[spoiler: running out of magic]], either. [[spoiler: Which ended badly for him, since his flight depended on magic to work.]]
* EvilGloating: [[spoiler:Taken advantage of by Ellen and Nanase, to give Diane a chance to help in some way]].
* KnightOfCerebus: The most powerful, threatening and terrifying enemy to have appeared since [[DarkMessiah Damien]]. Once his influence makes itself clear, ''[[WhamEpisode Family Tree]]'' becomes [[NightmareFuel much, MUCH scarier.]]
* LargeHam: He's excessively dramatic, from landing impressively in front of his quarry, greeting them with pretentious titles, and ranting about his motives.
* MindControl: He gathers a "flock" of mind controlled followers by [[spoiler:spiking the punch at a party]]. In his own words, he was put on this earth to be a ruler of mindless, obedient sheep. Most likely delusions of grandeur, [[spoiler: since it turns out he's human.]]
* MisterExposition: A largely offscreen example. [[spoiler:He's the one who gave Charlotte all her strangely accurate information]].
* MixAndMatchCritter: He's an ape with horns and bat wings.
* MotiveRant: The second he gets an audience, he gleefully explains his entire plan: [[spoiler:He wants revenge on Nanase's aunt Noriko (Tedd's mother) for defeating him in Europe]].
* NerdInEvilsHelmet: Unfortunately, he still manages to be terrifying.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: According to Mr. Verres, [[spoiler:Not-Tengu was just some average jerk that stumbled onto a way that allowed anyone to use magic, and is the first big example the audience sees of exactly ''why'' Mr. Verres insists on upholding TheMasquerade.]]
** [[spoiler: It is likely that this has something to do with Guardian Forms.]]
* ProudToBeAGeek: He apparently spends a lot of time online, discussing magic with people who don't know he's a magical creature. He also criticizes Charlotte's web forum for its inadequate selection of smilies and late notifications about new posts.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: "Tengu" is just his online nickname; he ''tries'' to give his real name, but no one is interested. He's been unofficially referred to as "Not-Tengu".
* RevengeByProxy: He wants to take revenge on Noriko by killing her family.
* XanatosGambit: Seems to have one going in regards to Nanase's Guardian Form. To whit, his plan is:
** Bait Nanase into attacking him first. Not-Tengu believes Guardian Form can only be used in self defense. If she isn't defending herself, she can't use it and he's free to form his flock without any worries.
** If she manages to use her Guardian Form anyway, still not a problem. Not-Tengu doesn't know her other spells, any of which could potentially beat him, but Guardian Forms locks all of those out for at least a day due to burnout.
** And while she is in Guardian Form, she can only fight in hand to hand combat, something he has no problem with.
** [[spoiler: SpannerInTheWorks: Had NO idea about Ellen's clone form spell...]]

!!Immortals

[[folder:Immortals as a group]]

Immortals are a class of supernatural beings who exist only on the spiritual plane and who are normally limited to advising and guiding mortals to act in the real world.

While Immortals live forever, they need to "die" to reset their memories and personality every 200 years or so to prevent their growing intelligence and power from butting up against increasing boredom and decreasing sanity.
----
* AllPowerfulBystander: Immortals are only allowed to guide and empower mortals without incurring the wrath of other immortals. [[spoiler:Chaos is bending these rules, probably with the intent of tearing the whole system apart so that her son is no longer bound by them either]].
* AwesomeMcCoolname: Apparently, they love giving themselves this. They aren't necessarily ''original'' about it though, according to Jerry.
* BornAgainImmortality: However, to retain their full potential, they have to do this voluntarily. If they are killed or rushed in the transition, they lose a lot of their memories and power.
* {{Expy}}: They're a fair bit like [[Series/DoctorWho Time Lords]]. Given that Dan Shive is a known fan, there's a good chance this was [[AuthorAppeal intentional]].
* ForTheLulz: Boredom and passing whims can motivate many Immortals to messing with people and causing major events. Jerry made the Hammers because he thought it was funny and Pandora openly admits that boredom is one of her motivating factors for creating all the [[spoiler: Magic Marks]]
* ImmortalityImmorality: Not going through death and rebirth tends to leave immortals with a dangerous combination of power, boredom, and insanity. It's hinted that this is part of why Chaos is so dangerously unbalanced.
* OneSteveLimit: Since they adopt their own names, this can be averted with hilarious consequences:
-->'''Grace:''' ...You're an immortal named Jerry?\\
'''Jerry:''' Hey, you should be ''glad'' I'm named Jerry! Most immortals go for elitist names from ancient mythology. Let me tell you, there is ''nothing'' more hilarious than the legendary hissy fits that result from two or more immortals named "Zeus" running into each other.
* PointyEars: All immortals seen so far have has pointy ears in their default humanoid forms. [[spoiler:Their "elf" half-human children inherit this too]].
* SuperEmpowering: Immortals can give a person a magic mark which allows them to use an ability related to their innate talents or strongest desire, with that person's knowledge and consent. [[spoiler:However, trickery and lies of omission can be used to get that consent as the French Immortals did, and Chaos outright forces marks on people and edits their memories to manipulate them]].

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Pandora]]
!!Pandora Chaos Raven

An Immortal that can change her form at will. Virtually nothing is known about her except that she occasionally forces Magus to do her more dirty work. She is mostly an observer, but occasionally tries to influence events, particularly when she feels she has been slighted.
----

* AwesomeMcCoolname: ''Pandora'' as in the Box. ''Chaos'' by itself is pretty cool.
* BreakingSpeech: [[spoiler:Tries to give Adrian, her son, one about how wanting to defend his students is pointless. He [[ShutUpHannibal would have none of it]]]].
* ComplexityAddiction: She deliberately makes her plans as convoluted as possible so failure is possible and success uncertain. Certain success is stated to be [[VictoryIsBoring too boring for her.]]
* CreepyChild: One of her common forms. Used while {{mindscrew}}ing Mr. Verres and his team and then on live TV.
* DisproportionateRetribution: [[spoiler:She wanted Magus to kill the already defeated and unconscious Abraham, after Abraham hurt her son Adrian. And she ''wanted'' Abraham to hurt Adrian to teach him a lesson. [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity She's getting a bit unstable]]...]].
* HiddenAgendaVillain: So much that we don't even know if she's truly villainous. (Definably not good, though.)
** At times it's not even certain ''she'' knows what her agenda is.
* HumanoidAbomination: A case study of exactly what happens when Immortals [[StrongerWithAge live]] [[WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity too]] [[AxCrazy long.]]
* IHaveManyNames: Most of them self-appointed, it seems.
* LoopholeAbuse:
** Immortals are only allowed to guide and to empower mortals. Chaos bends the definition of both those words into pretzels.
** She is compelled to warn Luke not to use his AuraVision on [[spoiler:Tedd]] (though whether it's by the rules of other immortals or just her own conscience is unclear). Either way, it doesn't matter, because she told him this while she was hidden by a cloaking spell that renders her absolutely invisible and inaudible.
--->'''Pandora:''' I ''warned'' you not to gaze upon [[spoiler:my grand-godson]] with that spell. I ''warned'' you it would not work properly. ''[switches to CreepyChild form]'' Granted, you couldn't hear me then any more than you can ''now'', but I diiid technically say it!
* LovecraftianSuperpower: [[spoiler:[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2009-11-11 GAH!]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2009-11-13 DO NOT WANT!]]]]
* MamaBear: Is ''very'' pissed when [[spoiler:Abraham nearly kills Raven]]. She's also quite protective of her "grand-godson" [[spoiler:Tedd Verres]].
* TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody: Implied inversion; she shifts form based on her mood. When she's in MamaBear mode, she's an AmbiguouslyBrown elven sorceress. When she's feeling whimsical, she switches to her CreepyChild form.
* MoralMyopia: Okay, [[spoiler:killing Abraham]] is understandable, albeit extreme, but giving the blame to [[spoiler:Mr. Verres]]?[[note]] Possibly because as an Immortal she can't kill or harm anyone herself.[[/note]]
* MysteriousWatcher: She seems awfully interested in Tedd, and she's taken an interest in Sarah as well.
* NotSoOmniscientAfterAll: Pandora sees almost everything, but on one occasion, an action she takes on impulse has an unexpected result, much to her delight. Even though, as she notes, she should have easily seen it coming had she been paying attention. Which she isn't all that constant in doing anyways.
* PetTheDog: At least how she sees giving out [[PowerTattoo marks]]. Tedd, Sarah, and Justin at least would have wanted them, and Dex likes the fairy companion his mark gives him.
** BaitTheDog: The fact that this makes their lives better is PURE COINCIDENCE.
* SigilSpam: [[spoiler:She marks the medallion used to control Dex with a reference to Pandora]].
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler:When Magus refuses to do her bidding anymore, she does ''not'' take it well]].
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: She is a very old, very powerful, and very insane Immortal. She is the walking-talking example of why Jerry said Immortals have to "die" around two hundred. She is at ''least'' five hundred. Exactly why Pandora refuses to die isn't stated but it's very likely because of her son.
** It may also be because she would have to "die".

[[folder:The French Immortals]]
!!The French Immortals

A pair of elf-like creatures who awakened Susan and Nanase's magical powers in Paris and now watch over Elliot.
----

* CameBackWrong: Apparently their EasyAmnesia is the result of not dying properly.
* EasyAmnesia: If only they could remember ''why'' they are supposed to be watching over Elliot.
* ItsUpToYou: Subverted. [[spoiler:They empowered Nanase and Susan to fight the aberration, but Jerry revealed that they actually could have asked for help from the goverment or even powerful civilians]].
** Though a Q&A also reveals that summoned weapons are the most effective against aberrations, and Susan was still probably the best possible person to fight it, Jerry says as much but still doesn't like that the pair used untrained children on such a dangerous mission.
* SuperEmpowering: They give Susan a Magic Mark and speed up Nanase's awakening.

* BigOlEyebrows: And they are in fact a clue that [[spoiler:the "busybody" at the party is actually him]].
* ChivalrousPervert:
** The backstory of the hammers. [[spoiler:They were meant as a release valve to ''encourage'' flirting and harmless, dirty-minded shenanigans -- not as a deterrent]].
** [[spoiler:He was initially thought to be the one who turned the punch at the party into a {{Gender Bender}}ing punch, though Nanase doubts this]].
* CoolOldGuy: In his first appearance. He's a very wise, jolly, and calm guy who takes some time out of his death ritual to offer some wisdom to three girls he's never met before. Upon learning of Susan's previous encounter with immortals, he even swears to try and pay off the debt that the immortals owe her (despite not being personally involved). As he puts it:
-->'''Jerry:''' Immortals owe you something. I'm here and have pointy ears. May as well be me.
* EccentricMentor: Less so than Mr. Verres, but he still fits the bill. He's been a little wacky in his life, and some things like his HyperspaceMallet idea were kind of weird, but bear in mind he's a 200 year old immortal at the height of his power -- for now, -- and he's also a master of [[MundaneMadeAwesome Serenity-Inducing Fluffy Animal Attack]].
* ElderlyImmortal:
** Physically, he's a Type B. Given that he was preparing to "die" and be reborn when first met, this will change in his next appearance. [[spoiler:And as of the "Family Tree" storyline he has]].
* FatBastard: Calls himself this, while [[AvertedTrope he's anything but]]. The worst thing we've seen him do was the real origin story for the [[HyperspaceMallet Hammers]], which he admits was an adolescent prank that he didn't realize Susan would take so seriously. Otherwise? He really is just a CoolOldGuy.
* HiddenDepths: Despite initially coming off as jolly and cheerful, he's able to handle [[spoiler:Susan's angst-induced awakening]] with a minimum of complications and is shown to be ''very'' unamused when he hears [[spoiler:about what the French immortals had Susan and Nanase do]].
* HyperspaceMallet: Actually created and powered the artifact allowing females access to these hammers. Now that he's dying, he needs to take back in the power of these hammers.
* IGaveMyWord: A very honorable person. When he hears Susan's backstory, he is deeply offended by how Susan was treated and says that immortals owe her a debt -- one which he swears an oath to uphold himself. [[spoiler:As of the "Family Tree" storyline seems to be doing just that, to much of his current self's [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1699 chagrin]].]]
** {{Foreshadowing}}: [[spoiler:He says it's because he owed Diane's sister a favor, but it's unlikely that was Rhea, so [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2013-06-12 who else]] [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2013-05-13 could it be?]]]]
* MrExposition: He explains a lot about immortals, awakening, and, the hammers.
* PassiveRescue: [[spoiler:After his reincarnation, [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2013-06-12 he stopped Diane from drinking the punch]], allowing her to remain out of Tengu's control and get Nanase and Ellen's help.]]

!!The Demonic Duck

Master of Distraction

Some sort of magical summon that takes the form of a red duck with horns and a cartoonish pointy demon tail. He's called forth whenever [[LookBehindYou someone needs the attention taken off of them for a second]], usually so they can make a quick getaway. It is possible to be distracted by the duck even if you're the one who summoned him.
----

* CharacterizationMarchesOn: In his first appearance, he felt "used" when pointed out as a distraction.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Despite the name and appearance, he's [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2005-11-25 not actually demonic]] or particularly evil.
* DeadpanSnarker: Manages to get a few good ones in.
* GoLookAtTheDistraction: It's the whole reason he exists (to BE the distraction, that is, not to look at it.)
* InterspeciesRomance: Between admiring human female forms and noting that he gets "all kind of action," he suggests that this has happened plenty for him.
* PhraseCatcher: "Hey, is that a demonic duck of some sort?"
* WeirdTradeUnion: [[http://egscomics.com/?date=2005-02-23 A member of one]].

[[folder:Magus]]
!!Magus

A wizard [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2007-01-03 tricked into transporting to environs of our universe]] and largely unable to interact with it, that occasionally does "favors" for Chaos for the sake of ending his limbo. Has the ability to amplify the emotions of others. Like Chaos, very little is known about him, but what is known is that he wishes to return to life, and believes that Ellen is the key to making this possible. He claims to be Ellen's "Father", which implies that he orchestrated her creation in the first place.
----

* BackFromTheDead: His ultimate goal.
* TheEmpath: He has the ability to sense and magnify the emotions of others, which is the only power he still has over the normal world.
* LittleNo: [[spoiler:He gave Chaos a big one, refusing to go along with her plans of DisproportionateRetribution against the already defeated Abraham. Chaos was ''not'' pleased by this]].
* PsychicPowers: His amplification ability.

[[folder:Nioi]]
!!Nioi

A female Human/Skunk seyunolu sorceress working for Lord Tedd. While doing private research for her little court intrigue (in Lord Tedd's best interests, as she sees it) in an AlternateUniverse where the main cast lives, she accidentally met them and saved Grace [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2004-05-14 using her magical shield]]. She "fixed" (and later contacted) Ellen as an expert in magical artifacts in general and the Dewitchery Diamond in particular after carelessly running into it while enchanted, thus accidentally creating Kaoli.
----

%%* FunctionalMagic
* HalfHumanHybrid: Is part human and part skunk.
* MeaningfulName: [[http://www.egscomics.com/faq.page#name_kaoli Kaoli and Nioi]] -- "Fragrance" and "Scent." They're part-skunk chimerae.
* SubordinateExcuse: "[[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2004-05-17 Voluntary servant]]" of Lord Tedd is eager to [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2003-11-10 write off his more dubious inclinations]] as the [[PoisonousFriend corrupting influence]] of [[BloodKnight General Shade Tail]] and is quickly distracted by [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2003-12-01 peeping at his alternate]]. Also, the visual RunningGag with collar tags had her with "T."
* VainSorceress: An innocent version -- she played with cosmetic use of {{shapeshifting}} magic, changing her skin color and making herself slightly younger [[spoiler:when she touched the Dewitchery Diamond. Oops]]. Which may be related to her rather obvious crush on Lord Tedd.

A body-snatching aberration who currently uses the body of an old man. Has allied himself with Magus.
----

* DeadpanSnarker: His conversation with Magus shows shades of this.
* DealWithTheDevil: It's highly implied that Magus has made one of these by getting into debt with him.
* GrandTheftMe: What he did, does, and is planning to do.

[[folder:The "Whale"]]
!! The "Whale"

A bizarre looking creature that is introduced in the "There Be Whales" story-line. Feeds on ambient magic.
----

* EldritchAbomination: States that it is both of and not of this world. Seems to be benevolent though and acts as MrExposition for Tedd.
* MindRape: Played down. Its psychic conversation with Ted only gave him a nasty headache. Ted believes it kept its conversation short because it didn't want to cause this to him.
* MrExposition: At least to Ted so far.
* StarfishAlien: It looks a little like a cross between a whale and a bottom feeder.
-->'''"Whale:"''' We prefer to be compared to whales. We like whales.
* YearInsideHourOutside: Its psychic communication seems to cause this, with its conversation to Tedd only lasting "less than one literal second" (later confirmed to be about two-thirds of a second) outside.

[[folder:Dr. Germahn]]
!!Dr. Germahn

A stereotypical MadScientist, and proprietor of Germahn Laboratories, complete with accent.
----

* AuthorAppeal: In-universe reason for what Germahn Labs produces. Also out-of-universe, probably.
* CharacterAlignment: Self-explained Chaotic Good. While he causes chaos, he makes sure nobody is hurt.
* DemotedToExtra: Has been largely absent in later Q&As.
* DirtyOldMan: Has many things that can lead to {{Fanservice}}.
* HerrDoktor: ''Stereotypical'' proprietor of Germahn Laboratories
* MadScientist: His job when not providing exposition or experimenting on his employees.
* MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate: Explains using Amanda as a guinea pig.
* MrExposition: Was this early on, before Mr Verres took over.

[[folder:Amanda]]
!!Amanda

Dr Germahn's lab assistant. Perky, happy, and eternal victim of Dr. Germahn's experiments, almost always involving shrinking.
----

* GeniusDitz: While Dr Germahn and her roomate Lisa both cite she's got brains, [[{{Peanuts}} Charlie Brown has better luck seeing through Lucy's talks on holding a football]] than Amanda has avoiding testing out shrinking potions/formulae/sodas/anything.
* HotScientist: Attractive, and working on recognition as a scientist; her last appearance showed her testing out ''her own'' shrinking formula.
* MadScientist: Apparently, she ''learns'' from Dr. Germahn. Also? In DES Comics she made the ''[[http://danshive.deviantart.com/art/Some-Comic-of-Mine-009-81483916 Velocitoaster]]''.
* ProfessorGuineaPig: The above test subject? Herself.
* YaoiFangirl: She has an awful lot of fun describing a hypothetical storyline involving Elliot and Justin feeling attracted to one another.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lisa]]
!! Lisa

Amanda's roommate, and prospective lawyer. Apparently has a crush on Amanda, but she's reluctant to voice it where Amanda can hear.
----
* AmbiguouslyGay: Tried to be this. She wasn't too good at being all that ambiguous, and it has finally been confirmed that a) Lisa likes girls, b) Amanda ''knows'' Lisa likes girls, c) the charade was kept up for the sake of a running gag (whether Amanda knows that Lisa likes her specifically is still unknown).
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Literally, in [[http://www.egscomics.com/index.php?id=1712 this strip]].
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: She glomps Chika in sheer joy when Raven accepts Amanda's offer to go on a date.
* ShipperOnDeck: Of Amanda and Raven, [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy despite the fact that she has romantic feelings for Amanda]].

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Chika]]
!! Chika

Amanda's colleague.
----

* CrazyPrepared[=/=]NoSell: Every time Lisa tries to [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-02-09 pull some prank]] on Chika or with her assistance, it's turned back on Lisa. Also, [[CrazyPrepared not going to]] make more {{Fanservice}} than she wants to.
%%* {{Meganekko}}
* OnlySaneMan: Her science may be mad, but she [[http://www.egscomics.com/?date=2010-01-26 isn't]].
* SituationalSexuality: She raised her hand when Lisa and Amanda questioned whether anyone "experiments" to test their sexuality. However, she did not reveal the results of those tests.
-->'''Chika:''' Oh, don't look so shocked. I approach everything scientifically.

AuthorAvatar. Rarely shows up, but there are times.

* EverythingsNuttierWithSquirrels: The only times he hasn't been drawn as a squirrel guy is when he was a squirrel ''girl''.

Sarah was the first female character in the comic and spent most of her time dealing with Eliot and Tedd's schemes to get her to appear in a bikini. Once the story started to incorporate more fantastic elements, she was made unique by being the most "normal" one of the bunch, having none of the gifts in magic or science the other main characters enjoy.
