[[folder:Val'Kyorl'solenurn Clan]]

Formerly one of two Drowussu houses making up the Council of Nine, until the Val'Dutan'vir fell and were replaced with the Vel'Vloz'ress. Although both clans were made up of the drowussu minority there was mutual enmity between the two based on each clan's respective ideology. The Dutan'vir saw their place as beside the drowolath (indeed many members were {{HalfBreed}}'s) whereas the Kyorl'solenurn desired separation from the drowolath and saw themselves as on a mission from Sharess to keep their cousins ''pure''. The Kyorl'solenurn were the younger of the two drowussu houses and unlike most other Chelian clans, they maintain a strong religious belief in Sharess and claim to carry out their ''purges'' on her behalf.

!The Clan as a whole

* AnimalMotifs (The unicorn)
* BrokenBase ({{In-universe}}, the Kyorl are deeply divided on the subject of racial purity and how to treat their Drowolath cousins)
* BetterToDieThanBeKilled (the standard procedure for when someone becomes tainted. Some submit to their fate, while others, [[spoiler:like Tira'de]], run away)
* BodyguardCrush (its not hard to infer that most of the Kyorl Orders' warden/blade relationships probably end up like this in future)
* [[spoiler:BoomerangBigot]] (They hate light elves and "impure" people [[spoiler:but not only are several if not most Judicators light elves, but every drowussu is the descendant of one]])
* ChildSoldier (though children seem to fight in every clan, the Kyorl fit best, as seen [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=368 here]])
* EmotionBomb (part of what [[http://www.drowtales.com/worldsettingarchive.php?sid=3158 Inquisitors]] do while "cleansing" people, similar to the real life practice of [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_bombing Love bombing]])
* FantasticRacism (towards light elves and half-bloods, though they have accepted a few of the latter into their ranks such as Sang'oro)
* {{Foil}} (They were this to the Dutan'vir before the latter clan's fall. This can even be seen in the choice of animal used for their mounts- the Dutan'vir had the stag, whereas the Kyorl'solennurn have the unicorn.)
* {{Foreshadowing}} (the first words spoken by a Kyorl, Judicator Kyuuse, in the comic are "[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=4276 We are the guardians of the children of Sharess]]" [[spoiler:cue chapter 15, where it's revealed that the drowussu are descendants of light elves, and you'll notice that he never said anything about ''them'' being the children of Sharess, since they're aren't]])
* HolyChild (they revere the "Holy Eyes" [[spoiler:aka Awares like Zhor]] and by extension, Ariel)
* HugeGuyTinyGirl (unlike drowolath, who have taller females than males, female drowussu are built smaller than males, and WordOfGod is that one reason female Wardens have a male Blade with them is to compensate for this)
* JerkassHasAPoint (their extremism against the Tainted is surprisingly justified, especially with the revelation about the [[spoiler:intentionally faulty seeds]]. Doesn't stop them from being jerks about it.)
* KickTheDog (during the Nidraa'chal War, they [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5950 took some of the surviving Dutan'vir children back with them]], but left the others to slavers. Their [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7790 treatment of Abyte]] is also pretty disgusting, especially since the warden who was actually responsible apparently got off scot free.)
* KillItWithFire (seems to be S.O.P. when it comes to dealing with demons, [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=4281 as seen during the Nidraa'chal War]])
* KnightTemplar (some more than others, but virtually every Kyorl is this to some extent, even the more moderate ones)
* LightIsNotGood
* TheMasquerade ([[spoiler:many, if not most, of the Judicators are really Light Elves, and this is why they cover themselves in public. It seems only a few Kyorl know the truth about their heritage]])
* MindManipulation (the process of "[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=373 cleansing]]" is just a fancy word for this, along with {{Brainwashing}})
* MissionFromGod (they see it as their mission to protect the "Children of Sharess" from their own flaws)
* NotSoDifferent (what Lulianne came to believe [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5940 after she saw what they did to those that survived the Dutan'vir charge]])
* PureIsNotGood (generally any time the word "purity" gets invoked someone is about to die)
* SecretTestOfCharacter ([[spoiler:visiting Lioshi's fort turns out to be one of these, since some Kyorl, after hearing that they're descended from Light Elves, attempt to [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5462 throw themselves from the balcony]]. Luckily it's a short drop so all that happens is a few bruises and some embarrassment.]])
* SecretLegacy ([[spoiler:all drowussu are descendants of Light Elves and the Vanir, but only a few know this]])
* {{Unperson}} (if you get tainted and run away because you want to live, rather than either take your own life or allow someone to take yours, you become this, as Abyte and [[spoiler:Tir'ade]] demonstrate)

!!Shimi'lande Val'Kyorlsolenurn

The Ill'haress of the Kyorl, Shimi'lande is relatively new to the position. Whilst not being particularly strong or tall she is noted for her ability to lead the clan and maintain the peace between opposing factions amongst the Kyorl'solenurn.

* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
* FacialMarkings (has the nine-eyed Sharess symbol on her forehead)
* ImprobableAge (early character info mentions that she's incredibly young by the standards of most Ill'haresses and it was one of the points made against her by the Council of Judicators in Chapter 17.)
* [[{{Irony}} Ironic Counterpart]] (with Zala'ess, another in-universe [[MamaBear mama bear]]. Both have children they care deeply for and both have cases where their biological child was killed by their adoptive child. The difference is in how they react to the situation. Whereas Zala'ess was infuriated to the point of wanting to kill Yaeminira for killing Vy'chriel, [[spoiler: according to the '''Rebirth''' sidestory Shimi'lande instead adopted Chirinide (then known as Mrid'harini) as her daughter and gave her the original's rank and title.]] Zala'ess never forgave Yaeminira for her actions and [[spoiler: arranges Yaeminira's death via a XanatosGambit]] whereas Shimi'lande has practically taken [[spoiler: Chirinide]] under her wing. The difference in reaction is odd due to the Kyorl'solenurn desire for blood purity and the Sharen obsession with strength and obedience to authority.)
* MamaBear (towards both her biological and adoptive children, in fact, [[spoiler:Vy'Chriel was counting on this reaction to kick off a fight between the Vloz'ress and the Kyorl, which is why she gave Kharla [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=631 a Kyorl to dollify]]]])
* [[spoiler:PuppetKing]] (implied, and it seems [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1027 she knows]])
* [[{{Seers}} Seer]]
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure (pretty much a given since she has to keep the fanatics and more moderate Kyorls in line, best demonstrated [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1025 here]])

!!Chirinide Val'Kyorlsolenurn

Shimi'lande's adopted daughter who shares her ability to see the past and the future.

* BlessedWithSuck (her ability to see the future and past, the catch is that they're very [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1520 very vivid]] and it's implied she feels what's happening in them as if it was happening to her)
* TheCassandra (has visions, but Ariel tends to dismiss them)
* CharacterDevelopment (her character arc has been made up of her becoming more tolerant and open to understanding, especially after learning [[spoiler:the truth about drowussu and light elves]])
* CloseCallHaircut (while [[spoiler:escaping Vanaheimr, she uses her fire powers to fight off a moving tree, and her hair becomes [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1524 much shorter]]]])
* TheComicallySerious (through traveling with [[GenkiGirl the bubbly Kyo'nne]] and [[TeamPet Melodia's]] love of her cloak, she gets a lot of moments like this because of her overly serious demeanor)
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow (leading to...)
* EyesOfGold
* HairOfGold
* HalfBreed (due to her Light Elf father grew up calling herself this, though she's the only one who seems to care [[spoiler:and later subverted when we find out that light elves are to drowussu what dark elves are to drow]])
* HoldingHands (with [[spoiler:Shan'naal]])
* PintsizedPowerhouse (WordOfGod describes her as the smallest and thinnest of the main female cast, compensating for age, though it's hard to tell since she pads out her armor so much)
* PlayingWithFire (has a fire affinity)
* PrinciplesZealot (she's even willing to kill herself to keep her "impure" blood from spreading through the clan, though Shimi'lande convinces her that this isn't necessary)
* RedOniBlueOni (with Shan, as the red oni)
* ReplacementSibling (for the original Chirinide, assuming the "Rebirth" story is still canon, though at least part of it has been referenced in the main comic)
* [[{{Seers}} Seer]]
* TeethClenchedTeamwork (with Kyo'nne)
* YouAreWhatYouHate (initially, but she grows out of it)

!!Shan'naal Val'Kyorl'solenurn

Chirinide's ''blade'' (i.e. protector/bodyguard) who travels with her wherever she goes. Somewhat more playful and cheerful than Chirinide he still demonstrates a strong devotion towards her and is quick to defend her against anyone he feels might have slighted her. Kyo'nne has a [[PlayedForLaughs rather big]] crush on him.

* {{Bishonen}}
* EstrogenBrigadeBait
* FacialMarkings (WordOfGod says that the mark on his forehead represents how he shields Chiri and that's why it's larger and bolder)
* KnightTemplar (more mellow than Chiri, which [[PrinciplesZealot isn't saying much]], but he's still one of these, best demonstrated [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=368 here]])
* MulticoloredHair
* RedOniBlueOni (with Chiri, as the blue oni)

!!Ky'ovarde Kyorl'solenurn

One of the wardens in the Order of The Twin Eyes. She takes her job of demon slaying ''very'' seriously.

* EyepatchOfPower
* KnightTemplar (even among the already fanatical Kyorls she's one)
* NotSoDifferent (Sene'kha points this out when she sees that Kyo'varde uses demon summoning to fight her, but Kyo'varde justifies it as fighting fire with fire)
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill (just watch what she does to [[spoiler:Sene'kha]] and it becomes obvious that the Kyorl ''do not fool around'' when it comes to making sure people stay dead)

!!Myou Kyorl'solenurn

One of the many drow and light elves imprisoned in the dungeons of Nagyescsed with [[spoiler: Faen]] by the Halme King and Queen. Myou used to work for the ''Order of Serenity'' on a Kyorl'solenurn surface outpost before she was captured by Halme raiders. After Ariel and her gang free them, she travels with Chirinide and Shan'naal to reunite Freyja with her family in Chapter 29.

* CoolBigSis
* TheMentor (For Freyja and [[spoiler: briefly for Faen in the dungeons]].)
* [[MrExposition MsExposition]] (Often acts as translator on behalf of Chiri'nide and the light elf prisoners)
* RoseHairedGirl
* [[SingleTear Sheds A Single Tear]] ([[spoiler: over the fate of her fellow prisoners in Vanaheimr]])
* SweaterGirl (spends part of chapter 29 in what's essentially a blue turtleneck)

!! Yakuise Val'Kyorl'solenurn

A girl of Shimi'lande's lineage, she lives in the basement of the Sharen fortress. First appears in Chapter 31.

* BigEyesLittleEyes ([[http://www.drowtales.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Yakuise.jpg her eyes are drawn noticeably large]] in comparison with the rest of her face, possibly to denote her as an [[TheIngenue ingenue-type figure]]. WordOfGod also says that she's [[http://www.drowtales.com/wordpress/?p=3116 small for a Ssu]] ([[hottip:*:slang for drowussu]])
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow (mostly, since her eyes and hair are slightly different shades of gray)
* {{Funsize}} (she has to be this when standing if she is even smaller than most of the already standardly small drowussu)
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals (if [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7694 her room]] is anything to go buy, she loves plushies)
* GrayEyes
* MisBlamed ({{In-universe}}, Zala'ess blames her for the original Vy'chriel's refusal to get tainted, but Yakuise says she had nothing to do with it)
* ProperLady
* {{Seer}}
* YamatoNadeshiko (everything about her appearance screams this trope; as the Kyorl'solenurn are heavily inspired by Japanese culture and dress. Her speech, decorum and willingness to move away from her family home into that of a foreign clan, suggest that fulfilling her duty is the most important thing to her, much like a traditional yamato nadeshiko. She even offers Chrys'tel [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive//20110617c31p007.jpg tea]] sitting in the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seiza seiza]] style, by kneeling with her legs folded and with her buttocks resting on her heels)

!! Taisei

Yakuise's protector.

* {{Bishonen}}
* GrayEyes
* WhiteHairedPrettyBoy

!! Tir'ade Kyorl'solenurn [[spoiler:Mae'yukir Sarghress]]

A young templar, he accompanies Chiri and Shan'naal into Chel, [[spoiler:and winds up tainted. He has since run away and is now with the Sarghress.]]

* [[spoiler:AFateWorseThanDeath]] ([[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=392 Shan outright says]] this about him after [[spoiler:he runs away]])
* BlueEyes ([[spoiler:Originally]])
* EstrogenBrigadeBait ([[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=623 In universe]] as well as out)
* [[spoiler:IDontWantToDie]] ([[spoiler:what causes him to ScrewDestiny]])
* IOweYouMyLife (to Ant'alya, which prompts him to [[spoiler:[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=631 take her body back to the Sarghress fortress]]]])
* [[spoiler:ScrewDestiny]] ([[spoiler:[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=391 he refuses]] to [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=390 let Chiri kill him]], instead saying he wants to live]])
* WebComicTime (one fan humorously pointed out that between Chapter 12 and Chapter 17 he'd been carrying [[spoiler:Ant'alya's body]] for the real life equivalent of ''three years'')

!! Mili'ani Kyorl'solenurn

A Kyorl'solenurn warden of the Order of Twin Eyes. She is present [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=696 in Chapter 12]] and Chapter 13 where she fights [[ExpressiveMask Qui'ja]] Vloz'ress. Also makes a cameo appearances post Chapter 30 [[spoiler: in which it is hinted that she was the warden responsible for Abyte Maeyukir Sarghress' tainting and eventual estrangement from the clan]].

* AxCrazy (Heavily implied to be this in her introduction)
* BloodKnight (Emphasis on the blood-lust)
* CarryABigStick
* [[spoiler: GeneralFailure]] ([[spoiler: Poor Abyte. Its heavily implied that her being tainted and then forcibly branded a heretic was all due to Mili'ani's incompetence, since the warden responsible [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7790 looks a lot like her]]. Despite this Mili'ani was seemingly [[KarmaHoudini never punished]] for her role in the situation.]])
* GirlWithPsychoWeapon (Likes smashing things with her mace a bit too much...)
* MadEye
* TheNeidermeyer
* PrinciplesZealot
* WildHair (Her hair is noticeably more wavy than other characters, possibly to emphasise her ax-craziness)
* [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair You Gotta Have Aquamarine Hair]]

!! Ae'theriss Kyorl'solenurn

An Inquisitor for the Order of Twin Eyes. She has a very frail, delicate appearance and needs the support of Ano'toti to get around. First appears in Chapter 12.

* BlindFoldedVision / BlindSeer (Even provides the page image for the former! Ae'theriss is not actually blind, but needs the blindfold to augment her empathy)
* TheEmpath
* FragileFlower
* [[GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals Girls Love Cute Animals]] (Best way to calm her down when she suffers negative side effects from her powers? [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive//20051122c12p013.jpg Give her a tikk'tikki]].)
* IllGirl
* InTheHood
* SquishyWizard
* WomanInWhite

!! Ano'Toti Kyorl'solenurn

A Crusader for the Order of Twin Eyes. He is paired with Mili'ani when on missions but also provides emotional support for Ae'theriss. First appears in Chapter 12.

* ChildSoldier
* HairOfGold
* IWillProtectHer (Towards Ae'theriss)
* LivingEmotionalCrutch (For Ae'theriss who physically relies on him to be her shield)
* PrinciplesZealot
* TookALevelInBadAss (With Ae'theriss' help he is able to gain the courage to fight and subdue Afae Vloz'ress, a [[BodyHorror Corrupted]] attacking him, when before Afae Vloz'ress had the upper hand)

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Val'Illhar'dro Clan]]

The third of the ''"Great Clans"'' ([[hottip:*: the other ''"Great Clans"'' in the Council of Nine are the Sharen, the Beldrobbaen and the Sullisin'rune]]) to come to power. Heavily invested in music, trade and the expansion of their supply routes. They have a mutually beneficial business relationship with the Val'Nal'sarkoth as the latter specialise in surface trade, whereas the Illhar'dro [[http://www.drowtales.com/wordpress/?p=635 specialise in underworld trade]]. Unlike most of the other Chelian clans, the Illhar'dro have their homebase in Nuqrah'shareh, with only a fraction of the clan actually living in Chel. Rumoured to have the largest numbers of any clan, (due to the fact that they are spread out across a very wide portion of the underworld) the Illhar'dro are nonetheless a peaceful clan, preferring the merchant life to that of the warrior.

!The Clan as a whole
* AnimalMotifs (birds, which makes sense as the clan is strongly associated with music and they are one of the few clans who have strong ties to the surface)
* BoldlyComing (their usual approach to diplomacy is to set up their relatives with members of the ruling clan and have children with them. Its noted in a podcast that because of this practice they are probably the only clan to care about the bloodline of their childrens' fathers.)
* CompellingVoice (one of the Illhar'dro applications of spellsong, which they mainly seem to use for crowd control. It's described as being a mix of [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1766 empathy, mana arts and sound]])
* [[spoiler:DeepCoverAgent]] ([[spoiler:at least one Nidraa'chal, Shodun, is in their clan]])
* TheFashionista (Potentially rivaling the Sullisin'rune for this trope amongst the nine major clans.)
* HufflepuffHouse (until chapters 33 and 34, which focus on their home city of Nuqrah'shareh)
* IntrepidMerchant (They have close ties to the surface, most of their clan relations involve trade and their ancestors were seafarers. This is probably why blue seems to be a popular color choice for members.)
* MagicMusic (the Illhar'dro specialty)
* MagiKarpPower (Their spellsong technique. Kyo'nne even says that it's all but useless in a fight except in support roles. [[spoiler:Though Shodun proved in Sillice's flashback that it can be very deadly, using it to stun Sae'ryne and decapitate her, and later uses it to blast Sandaur out a window]])
* MerchantCity (Val'Raveran and various outposts on the surface)
* [[spoiler:RoyallyScrewedUp]] (chapter 33 shows that [[spoiler:all is not well in the royal family, and Balsii at least has a major chip on her shoulder]])
* ShiningCity (their home city of Nuqrah'shareh, described as "[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7936 the modern, peaceful and beautiful jewel of the west!]]" [[spoiler:at least before the 15 year timeskip, since so many refugees have poured into the city that it's now anything ''but'' those]])
* SlobsVersusSnobs (as chapter 33 shows, they're very much on the snobbish side, and very very rich, with one Illhar'dro telling commoners to "return to your hovels" ([[hottip:*:a hovel being "a small, squalid, unpleasant, or simply constructed dwelling", aka not a compliment]]) which, naturally, backfires)

!!Nega'fanae Val'Illhar'dro

The Ill'haress of the Illhar'dro and the Queen of Nuqrah'shareh, despite having been born in the neighboring city of Val'Raveran.

* ActualPacifist (which is a rarity amongst Drow females, let alone Ill'haresses, though Sara'hilana Balvhakara believes that her pacifist ways have [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1724 hurt her]])
* BeCarefulWhatYouSay (During the council Nega'fanae [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5579 is]] [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5778 very]] [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5781 proud]] [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5791 of]] Nuqrah'shareh to the point that Kharla'ggen effectively tells her to shut up about it, and extols its virtues at every opportunity, but after the 15 year timeskip [[spoiler:she probably regrets that, considering that the city has been destabilized by all the refugees pouring in from other cities, possibly even ''because'' she was so vocal about how great her city was]])
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
* FourIsDeath (she's referred to as being the fourth queen of Nuqrah'shareh, which explains a lot about her luck and lack thereof)
* TheHighQueen (of Nuqrah'shareh, where she's Queen, and also projects this image when in Chel)
* KnowWhenToFoldEm (during the timeskip the Illhar'dro left their base in Chel and withdrew to Nuqrah'shareh)
* MulticoloredHair (has blue highlights in her teal hair)
* HundredPercentAdorationRating (it's implied that she has the support of most of the clan leaders in Nuqrah'shareh [[spoiler: despite Balsii's attempt at a coup]], judging by the lengths the Jie'yen and Balvhakara heads go to ensure she remains queen-despite or perhaps even ''because'' of her pacifistic attitude.)
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure (from what we've seen of her she seems to be very concerned about following law and order. In chapter 33 she even seems to be willing to [[spoiler:forgive Balsii for her coup before Balsii tries to kill her]], and in chapter 34 talks about trying to end the conflict with the least amount of bloodshed possible, and had ordered caravans to bring food to the hungry civilians from the Surface, though they never arrived. To say nothing of how [[spoiler:she actually ''does'' forgive Balsii after she surrenders, deciding to end the bloodshed there]])
* {{Retcon}} / SpellMyNameWithAnS (originally her name was spelt Nega'fan''ea'' until Chapter 34)
* [[spoiler:UnwittingPawn]] ([[spoiler:she seems to fall for Zala'ess claims against the Sarghress pretty quickly]])

!!Kyo'nne Val'Illhar'dro
One of Nega'fanae's younger family members ([[hottip:*:podcasts have implied that she's Nega's granddaughter, but there's no definite word on their relation except that its direct]]) and a member of Chry'stel Vel'Sharen's GirlPosse at Orthorbbae.

* TheChick (even among her GirlPosse)
* CloudCuckooLander (the lyrics to her song are... [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7709 special]])
* CoyGirlishFlirtPose
* DamselInDistress (averted! Even though she's the least combat-savvy of the group, she still manages to keep from falling into DamselInDistress territory using her spellsong, [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1154 or a frying pan if necessary]])
* HairDecorations
* GenkiGirl (not too over the top, but she is pretty genki and even owns a tiktikki backpack. Amusingly, during Kiel's ImagineSpot to what would happen if Kharla were allowed to take over Chel, among the puppets representing her friends [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=804 the one representing Kyo'nne has her mouth stitched shut]])
* GirlishPigtails
* HiddenDepths (it's easy to dismiss Kyo as TheDitz, but just watch her [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5287 call out Chiri'nide and Shan'aal on their hypocrisy]])
* HypocriticalHumor (she's [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7730 very mad]] at Shinae for "throwing her to the Kyorls", and yet look what she did [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=4885 when the Kyorls showed up]])
* ImprovisedWeaponUser (two words: [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6610 frying]] [[FryingPanOfDoom pan]])
* TheIngenue (the fact that her actions towards Shan are mostly non-sexual and pretty innocent put her here rather than TheTease)
* InLoveWithLove (implied to be the reason she's so intent on Shan)
* LoveTriangle (sees herself in one with Shan and Chiri. Seems to be a type 7 TriangRelations, as Shan seems to be fond of both girls. It's just that his feelings for Chiri are stronger, and he is oathbound to her anyway.)
* MagicMusic (the Illhar'dro specialty)
* MyHovercraftIsFullOfEels (her Halme is [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6545 not the best]])
* PluckyGirl (even after getting hit in the face in the middle of using her spell song on Jer'kol she manages to get back up, restrain Chiri of all people and knock her out, stopping the fight. [[TheChick Chick]] or not, Kyo'nne has ''massive'' balls.)
* PrincessClassic (fits closest of any of the characters)
* WrongGenreSavvy (she seems to think of herself as a Disney-style princess. Unfortunately her world is [[CrapsackWorld not nearly that kind]].)

!!Sorane'saniil Val'Illhar'dro

A cousin of Kyo'nne and one of Ariel's classmates in the Davya Tower of the Orthobbae ''Legs'', ([[hottip:*: which refers to the male section of the Orthobbae school]].) He has a highly effeminate appearance which [[spoiler: Kel'noz played upon to hide the fact that Ariel is in fact a girl studying at the male only section of the school during Chapter 2]]. His mother is Jal'na Val'Illhar'dro with whom he shares a strong resemblance.

* ButtMonkey (in both of his appearances after Chapter 2)
* CampGay
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow (may or may not be natural)
* DudeLooksLikeALady (Ariel initially mistook him for a girl, and {{fanon}} has him as a crossdresser)
** Confirmed as of [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7067 this page]].
* IHaveBrothers (inversion: he has sisters)
* LargeHam ([[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7064 Yup]])
* StrongFamilyResemblance (to his mother)

!! Jal'na Val'Illhar'dro

Nega'fanae's favorite daughter and Sorane'saniil's mother, she is Nega'fanae's second in command and overseer of the Illhar'dro base in Chel'el'sussoloth. She appears to be a strict disciplinarian.

* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
* [[spoiler:DistressedDamsel]] (in chapter 34 [[spoiler:she's captured by Balsii's agents, who plan to kill her to get back at her mother, though thankfully Jie'yen agents arrive and rescue her before that]])
* EducationMama (she seems to be in charge of the children of the clan if Frisk Illhar'dro's words are correct)
* FacialMarkings (hangs jewels from her nose bridge to her jaw line)
* NumberTwo (to Nega'fanae as the overseer for Illhar'dro affairs in Chel, and is referred to as "her favorite daughter")
* ParentalFavoritism (as seen above)

!! Sandaur'recherrai Val'Illhar'dro

A battle instructor in the Davya Tower at Orthobbae. He was first seen in Chapter 2 training Ariel's class in battle skills before being OutOfFocus until Chapter 33 [[spoiler:where he dies]].

* [[spoiler:BackForTheDead]]
* BadAss (if Chapter 33 is any indication)
* BadassTeacher (shows up to rescue his students when the Illhar'dro island is attacked)
* BareFistedMonk (so far has used nothing but his bare fists in combat, and has kicked ''copious'' amounts of ass with them)
* BigOlEyebrows (he has noticeably larger eyebrows than most other characters)
* TheBusCameBack (First appeared in Chapter 2. Didn't show up again until Chapter 33!)
* CoolTeacher (students at both Othorbbae and in Nuqrah seem very fond of him)
* EstrogenBrigadeBait (with a helping of StupidSexyFlanders for male fans)
* EtTuBrute ([[spoiler:[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1720 his expression]] when Shodun blasts him out the window suggests that this was going through his mind, especially since it's implied that they were close in Chel]])
* FanNickname ([=SandGAR=] and it fits)
* GroinAttack (In Chapter 2 he shows the kids in Davya Tower that one should be a CombatPragmatist with this)
* [[spoiler:InTheBack]] ([[spoiler:What Balsii's guards do to him. Notably, all three swords [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1718 clearly go through his body]], not that this stops him, and had he not been thrown out the window he likely would have died from his injuries]])
* LongHairedPrettyBoy (as is the custom for several male Vals, he wears his hair long)
* NeckSnap (the fate of one unfortunate guy he catches in Chapter 33)
* [[spoiler:NotTheFallThatKillsYou]] ([[spoiler:He was already injured and likely dying from his wounds, [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?id=1719 but falling straight onto the apex of a nearby roof]] was the real death blow, and likely broke his back and/or neck.]])
* [[OneSceneWonder One Chapter Wonder]] (And how.)
* OverlyLongName (although the fact that the Commander of the Illhar'dro forces at the Great Bridge shares the "Recherrai" implies that it may be a subhouse name, and he's usually referred to just as "Sandaur")
* RatedMForManly (See his nickname. Plus he's possibly the most bad ass male Drow we've seen in series.)
* UndyingLoyalty (to Nega'fanae, even after [[spoiler:he gets stabbed multiple times by Balsii's guards]] his main concern is for her safety. It's probably why [[spoiler:Shodun killed him]])
* [[spoiler:WeHardlyKnewYe]] ([[spoiler: After several pages of Sandaur kicking ass and taking names he gets one-shotted by Shodun out of the window and right onto the apex of the roof outside. This led several on the forums to state that it [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption must be tough being male]] in the world of Drowtales]])

!!Balsii Val'Illhar'dro

A cousin of Nega'fanea in Nuqrah'shareh. She is the regional ruler under Nega'fanae.

* AmbitionIsEvil (possibly. She's willing to [[spoiler:pull a coup in the middle of a civil war, attempt regicide and order Sandaur killed]] which probably qualifies her for this)
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
* DidntSeeThatComing (she says that the one thing she didn't predict was [[spoiler:that Agneya'mukhi, the Balvhakara Matriarch, would oppose her when she tried her coup]])
* EasilyForgiven ([[spoiler: After she surrenders, Nega'fanae forgives her actions for a second time. It remains to be seen whether or not this will come to bite Nega'fanae in the ass later]])
* FantasticRacism (She's this towards anyone not native to Nuqrah'shareh and that even includes members of her own clan who just happen to be born outside of said city. Sara'hilana Balvhakara even [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1730 says]] that while she's a good regional ruler, if given control of the entire clan her xenophobia would turn them into another Chel)
* FashionableAsymmetry (her hairstyle, which has small sections of white on one side of her bangs)
* KlingonPromotion ([[spoiler: tried this with Nega'fanae, but it seems that it didn't work after all since Nega survived]])
* KnowWhenToFoldEm ([[spoiler:Surrenders rather than tear Nuqrah'shareh further apart]])
* ParasolOfPain (a variation, in that she has a sword hidden inside it)
* PunnyName (she must be pretty ''ballsy'' to [[spoiler:pull a coup on her cousin, in the middle of a civil war, no less]])
* TheResenter (towards Nega'fanea, who she sees as a weak and ineffective leader, and to add insult to injury Nega isn't even a native Nuqrah'sharehan, and Balsii sees the influx of refugees from other parts of the underworld as the cause of the problems plaguing the city)

!! Associated Clans

The Illhar'dro share power in their home city of Nuqrah'shareh with several other clans, the three most prominent of these clans being the Duskians, the Jie'yen and the Balvhakara. ([[spoiler: The latter two clans are instrumental in helping Nega'fanae regain her rule over Nuqrah'shareh after Balsii's coup.]]) The Balvhakara are headed by a Matriarch, the current one being Agneya'mukhi, whereas the more militant Jie'yen are headed by Matriarch Shi'tua.

* AnimalMotifs (The crab for the Balvhakara, and the dragon for the Jie'yen)
* BaldOfAwesome / BaldWomen (a common style for the Jie'yen)
* {{BFG}} (The Balvhakara who [[spoiler:accompanies Chrys to take out the Whispering Tower]] [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=8443 is giddy at the prospect of being able to use her cannon]])
* DarkIsNotEvil (the Balvhakara have black as one of their primary colors along with yellow, and most Balvhakara have black hair, but they're overall pretty reasonable and don't challenge the Illhar'dro for power [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1768 even though they could]]. They're also related to the Beldrobbaen, who are similar in that respect.)
* {{Determinator}} (The Jie'yen managed to hold onto their original homeland for 400 years before fleeing underground for Nuqrah'shareh.)
* ChekhovsGun ([[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1767 the dragon]] seen in the Jie'yen clan page [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6940 shows up in Vaelia's story]] at the end of chapter 25, and it's heavily implied that the island the Highland Raiders are seen exploring is in fact the Jie'yen's old home)
* {{Expy}} (The Duskians- who in-universe are seen as ones for the Kyorl'solenurn, though their clan page reveals that [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=8099 they prefer to stay neutral in clan conflicts]] and are mostly made up of drowolath who were adopted by the drowussu founders)
* EyesOfGold (Agneya'mukhi Balvhakara, and several of her descendants as well)
* FacialMarkings (Agneya'mukhi's forehead jewel, and Sara'hilana [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=8009 also has one]] that resembles a bindi. Some Jie'yen warriors also sport tattoos on their faces,[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive//20120106c34AllianceFaction.jpg best seen here]].)
* FantasyCounterpartCulture (the Jie'yen seem to be this for China, and come from the DT world's equivalent of East Asia, while the Balvhakara have an Indian slant to them, since ''Agneya'' is a Sanskrit word, several members wear jewels on their faces reminiscent of a bindi, and their homeland is even shaped kind of like India)
* HumongousMecha (the Balvhakara's crab golems, which are enormous [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=8047 even by the standards of the setting]])
* InstantFanClub (the fandom formed one for the Balvhakara when they turned up with a giant crab golem in their army)
* InTheHood (Agneya'mukhi wears one at the Glass Tower)
* KnightTemplar (the Duskians)
* LadyInRed (red appears to be the signature color for Jie'yen members)
* LawfulNeutral (the Duskians have this as their clan philosophy, maintaining order and controlling nether outbreaks but staying neutral in politics, as evidenced by their refusal to [[spoiler:choose either Nega'fanae or Balsii]] but step in when [[spoiler:nether gates start being opened]]. In a later chapter a Jie'yen snarks that the Duskian who [[spoiler:helps hide Chrys'tel's party being snuck into the lower city by showing himself]] is being "[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=8443 useful for once]]") [[invoked]]
* MartialPacifist (The Jie'yen)
* MassiveNumberedSiblings (Sara'hilana Balvhakara refers to herself as "The Matriarch's 18th Daughter" and she presumably has as many brothers as well)
* MeaningfulName (it was pointed out on the forums that the Duskians have this; as ''dusk'' refers to the period between night and morning- the Duskians were founded by Drowussu, [[spoiler: descendants of Light Elves who are said in early info to have worshipped the sun]] but are mostly comprised of Drowolath, descendants of Dark Elves who were in the past said to have worshipped the moon. Hence ''duskian'' because they represent an amalgamation of both drowish cultures.)
* TheNeedsOfTheMany (the reason why the Balvhakara chose to [[spoiler: support Nega'fanae over Balsii]] in the battle for Nuqrah'shareh, claiming that the person they are supporting is better overall for the stability of the city)
* NiceHat (The Matriarch of the Jie'yen sports a lovely one in Chapter 34)
* {{Ninja}} (The Jie'yen)
* PoweredArmor (worn by the Balvhakara troops)
* ShortHairWithTail (Agneya'mukhi Balvhakara)
* WarriorMonk (the Jie'yen, and apparently Sandaur learned his stuff from them)
* WildCard (Surprisingly for Balsii, [[spoiler: Agneya'mukhi, the Balvhakara Matriarch]]. Despite seeming to have supported Balsii in the past, in the end she chooses to support [[spoiler: Nega'fanae]] even though she was very vocal against the latter's pacifist ways, because as seen above this seems to be the best option for the city's survival)
* {{Wutai}} (the Jie'yen have this aesthetic, which makes sense since [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1764 they are originally from the area near Vaelia's homeland]], which seems to be an analog for Asia)

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Val'Beldrobbaen Clan]]

One of the Nine Great Clans, they have a very traditional view, unfortunately, this is part of what's killing them, as their refusal to adopt new members or mate with anyone who is not of Val status (combined with the loss of an entire generation of girls in a demon attack) has meant that their numbers are severely diminished.

!The Clan as a whole
* AnimalMotifs (the spider)
* DarkIsNotEvil (they dress in all black and revere the darkness... but their members make up some of the nicest ([[hottip:*: by human standards]]) members of the cast)
* DespairEventHorizon (the massacre of a generation of girls at Orthorbbae caused many members to cross it)
* DyingRace (in the sense that the clan is like a race unto itself within Chel, their numbers took a big hit during the Orthorbbae massacre and entire houses have died out)
* LawfulNeutral (their general strategy and clan philosophy is to wait, like a spider, and not involve themselves in outside disputes unless necessary [[invoked]])
* ProudScholarRace (they have an entire house of males devoted to scholarly pursuits)
* TheRemnant (they're one of the oldest clans in Chel, and it's heavily implied that there might even be a few dark elves hiding in the clan)
* SlobsVersusSnobs (somewhat on the snobbish side of the scale as they pointedly refuse to mate with non-Vals and do not adopt commoners. Despite this the clan seems to be on the side of [[ReasonableAuthorityFigure reasonable authority]] compared to other Val clans and when readers are shown the clan fortress it appears to be scrupulously clean- despite the lack of non-golem servants)

!!Waes'soloth Val'Beldrobbaen

The powerful and mysterious Ill'haress of the Beldrobbaen, Waes'soloth is described as being the only thing holding the declining Beldrobbaen clan together.

* CurtainsMatchTheWindow (probably natural, since Waes is most likely a second generation drow)
* {{Goth}}
* HotMom
* MamaBear (single handedly killed every slave in her fortress after a tainted slave went after one of the children)
** [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6989 "This means I will not have to regret sending back their envoy short a few limbs."]] Don't mess with Waes' kids.
* ModestRoyalty (considering her status and compared to the [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5557 other Ill'haresses]] Waes dresses [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=488 pretty plainly]], though her lack of ornamentation may be as much a statement as their inclusion on others' clothes. Another explanation could be that she dresses modestly because it's rude to stand out or wear bright colors in Beldrobbaen culture, as Naal'suul explained to Kiel'ndia)
* MultiArmedAndDangerous (apparently her spider "legs" are actually shadows)
* NoIndoorVoice (as can be inferred from her speech bubbles, she speaks in a loud, echoing voice)
* PeekABangs
* PersonOfMassDestruction (according to WordOfGod, Waes'soloth is old enough and powerful enough that, if she went all out and had nothing to lose, she could take out an entire ''army'')

!!Naal'suul Val'Beldrobbaen

Waes'soloth's daughter and heir who was the only person to survive the massacre at Orthobbae-albeit heavily tainted. She is [[spoiler: was]] a member of Chry'stel's GirlPosse at Orthobbae and Kiel'ndia's best friend. Naal'suul is often the [[OnlySaneMan voice of reason]] amongst her friends.

* [[spoiler:BodyHorror]] ([[spoiler:what the glutton demon turned her body into.]])
* BreakTheCutie (pre broken, though we do see flashbacks of before)
* CatchPhrase (to Kiel: "You're weird." Probably a compliment by now)
* CoolPet (her spider, usually seen riding on her back, nicknamed "Fuzz Fuzz" by fans)
* CryCute (see NotSoStoic)
* CutenessProximity (has this effect [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6738 on Kharla]] of all people)
* DeadpanSnarker (she makes the same sort of comments she did before her tainting, but due being an EmotionlessGirl now she does it with a deadpan expression)
* DarkIsNotEvil (dyes her hair black, dresses in all black, specializes in shadow sorcery, comes from a Clan that reveres darkness, and is the closest to what humans would consider good or moral)
* [[spoiler:DemonicPossession]]
* ElegantGothicLolita (many of her clothes, especially when she was younger, and [[http://www.drowtales.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/youngnaal_kiel_small.jpg one sketch]] of a young Naal describes her as "doll-like")
* EmotionlessGirl (somewhat, since she does show emotion, just comparatively little of it)
* GrayEyes (originally)
* [[spoiler:KillTheCutie]] ([[spoiler:it wasn't exactly unexpected, but the manner and timing were still a surprise]])
* MindRape (what being tainted did to her)
* NotSoStoic ([[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6786 one of the most powerful moments in the series thus far]] and one ''hell'' of a TearJerker)
** Later, [[spoiler:[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7125 she starts crying right before her seed takes her over]]]].
* [[spoiler:NotQuiteDead]] (it's heavily implied that [[spoiler:at least ''something'' of Naal's original consciousness still exists, judging by the fact that she didn't eat Kiel]])
* PerkyGoth (originally)
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship (with Kiel, and it's hard to deny after [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1230 this]])
** Then there's [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6783 this]] nuclear warhead of a ShipTease. The fandom nearly exploded with {{squee}}. May have officially upgraded to LesYay at this point.
* TooManyBelts (they help her feel secure. And yes, [[RuleThirtyFour the fandom ran with this]].)
* YourDaysAreNumbered (knows that her seed could overpower her any day now [[spoiler:and now it has]])
** WhyAmITicking (when her seed overpowers her, it will result in a rampaging demon that could pose a serious threat to anyone in the vicinity of her at the time)

!!Khal'harror Val'Beldrobbaen

A son of Waes'soloth and Naal'suul's younger brother. Unusually for members of his clan he has a rather upbeat personality. Is very interested in re-animating corpses and is rarely seen without ''Bob'', his ''[[TheMagnificent undead chicken of doom]]''.

* DraggedIntoDrag (along with [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7067 Nau'kheol]])
* GirlishPigtails (gets these when he gets DraggedIntoDrag)
* GrayEyes
* {{Necromantic}} (not yet, but he tells Naal that he'll bring her back as a golem when she dies, she tells him not to bother. [[spoiler:He does make a "Naal 2" to try and cheer up his mom, [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7907 with predictable results]].]])
* NightmareFetishist (likes bones and bodies just a bit too much... this leads to a FunnyBackgroundEvent where he can be seen [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7111 inspecting a dead body]] to see if it's suitable for golem making)
* PerkyGoth (compared to the rest of his clan, though Naal was very similar to him pre-tainting)
* PunnyName (his name is based on the French exclamation "Quel Horreur!" which means "The Horror!")
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Vel'Vloz'ress Clan]]
One of the newest clans to rise to the Council of Nine, they replaced the fallen Dutan'vir.

! The Clan as a whole

* AlwaysChaoticEvil (their reputation, though individual members sometimes avert this, and WordOfGod is that they [[http://www.drowtales.com/wordpress/?p=3943 deliberately play up looking evil]] as part of their battle tactics)
* AnimalMotifs (their clan mount is the [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive//20060409c02p030.JPG snake]], and WordOfGod is that the large snakes they ride actually belonged to the Dutan'vir originally and were engineered by the Jaal'darya)
* ArmyOfThievesAndWhores (the Vloz'ress is the last stop for many of the most desperate people in Chel, and the life expectancy of their troops can be measured in ''weeks''.)
* BedlamHouse (essentially what their fortress is)
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder (a prerequisite for anyone who wants to gain power in the clan)
* DarkIsNotEvil (under Ven'ndia, they were [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=444 weird but harmless]], and despite being demon worshipers sought to learn from them rather than use them as weapons. Thoroughly averted once Sene'kha took over)
* EldritchLocation (invoked, their fortress is intentionally designed to confuse people who enter it, including golems that [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=442 reached out and attack you]] as you enter)
* EvilIsVisceral (their fortress definitely seems to play off this)
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits (originally)
* TheUnfavorite (''nobody'' likes the Vloz'ress, just check the [[http://wiki.drowtales.com/index.php/Clan_Relations clan relations chart]]. Even the Sharen, who were behind the Vloz's rise to power, only like them on the surface, everyone else either hates them or is neutral towards them.)
* UnwittingPawn (it's stated several time that the Vloz are really nothing more than a pawn of the Sharen)

!! Kharla'ggen Vel'Vloz'ress

* AbsoluteCleavage
* [[BigBrotherInstinct Big Sister Instinct]] (''Seems'' to have developed one of these for Kiel'ndia. This is Kharla, though, so she still may turn on Kiel at any minute, just like she did to poor Ven'ndia, and [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1444 Larvova explicitly warns Kiel]] about this.)
* BlueAndOrangeMorality (Kharla is so crazy that regular morality just doesn't apply to her)
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass (crazy or not, cross Kharla and you ''will'' pay, as [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=621 the Sharen sent to attack them found out the hard way]])
* TheCaligula (despite her better aspects, she's still this trope through and through)
* DarkSkinnedRedhead (not naturally, since her hair was originally white)
* FanDisservice (everything about her, pretty much, since she has a beautiful body that's shown off with low cut tops but is totally insane)
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals (she loves plushies)
* TheGlomp ([[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1213 to Naal]], and yes, Kharla manages to make a ''glomp'' terrifying)
* IAmLegion (it's heavily implied that she has multiple people in her head, and thus refers to herself as "we", and not in the RoyalWe sense. Kiel even comments that it means that [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1237 Kharla's probably never felt alone]])
* LivingDollCollector (She's the page image.)
* MaskPower (sort of, since the mask was actually [[{{Squick}} to keep her from chewing her own fingers]])
* ObliviouslyEvil (it's been hinted that she doesn't have the mental capacity to understand the full extent of what she's doing. Notably, Kiel doesn't blame her for what happened to her mother, while she does blame Sene'kha)
* [[PuppetKing Puppet Ill'haress]] (but not if Kiel has anything to say about it...)
* PuppetPermutation (her specialty)
* PsychopathicManchild (for some, the childish traits she shows just make her ''more'' terrifying, while for others, her playing with a rubber duck while bathing to be absolutely adorable. And the extent she's actually psychopathic is debateable, since it seems that a lot of her actions were just her doing as Sene'kha told her to)
* RageAgainstTheReflection (The first time she saw her face in a mirror, she had a FreakOut and tried to tear her own face off. Her mask is the only thing that keeps her calm)
* ShoutOut (possibly, since her hairstyle and mask make her resemble [[TenchiMuyo Washuu]])

!! Kiel'ndia Vel'Vloz'ress

* BigNo ([[spoiler:upon seeing Naal get stabbed]])
* BreakTheCutie: She's undoubtedly gone through this, between watching her mother get turned into a puppet, whatever else she's seen in the Vloz'ress, [[spoiler:seeing her best friend taken over by her seed]] and [[spoiler:being poisoned]])
* BreakingTheFourthWall (her habit of talking to her "imaginary friend" who just happens to be in the same place as the reader is seen by the other characters as a symptom of madness)
** Later manifests as a TearJerker after [[spoiler:Naal's death]] when she tells the "audience" to [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7178 leave her alone]] and ''[[TakeThatAudience throws a belt at them]].''
*** Don't link to it. What part of leaving her alone don't you understand?
* TheChessmaster (one in training)
* TheCloudcuckoolanderWasRight (it seems she really was right about [[spoiler:there still being something left of Naal in Demon!Naal]])
* DespairEventHorizon ([[spoiler:Naal's seed taking her over]] nearly causes her to cross it, to the point that [[spoiler:[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7811 she's willing to let Demon!Naal eat her]], but luckily there's enough of Naal's mind left that she pushes Kiel out instead]])
* [[spoiler:EmergencyTransformation]] ([[spoiler:subverted, it was AllJustADream, much to fans' relief]])
* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas (the "bad" is up for debate since she's one of the more decent Vloz'ress, but she certainly loved her mother and was devastated by what happened to her)
* FiveStagesOfGrief (immediately after [[spoiler:[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7134 Naal's horrific demise]]]] she shows classic signs of stage 1, denial)
** Now seems to be [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7178 quite fully into stage 2, anger]], and later seems to have bypassed 3 to go right to 4, despair.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold
* KidHero (played straight and then horribly deconstructed when [[spoiler:she almost gets killed by poisoning, has a nightmare where she gets a doll body and Larvova scolds her to emphasize how stupid it is to try to do it all on her own]])
* TheLadette (despite being only 24, or physically 12 by human standards, she fits this among the other female characters in terms of personality)
* LampshadeHanging (in chapter 32 she breaks the fourth wall and [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7803 addresses]] how reckless [[spoiler:opening the morgue where Demon!Naal is trapped]] is)
* LoveableSexManiac ([[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/20100504c24p002_6794.jpg "Princes, I tell you. Lots of them. Just. Waiting. For. Me!"]])
** She's already claimed [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7019 Nau'kheol]].
** And [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7718 Chrys'tel]].
* MessyHair (not immediately obvious, but just compare her hair when it's down [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6781 here]] to when Naal [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1317 manages to brush it out]] at the cost of her hairbrushes. Not washing it for a long time will do that.)
* RapunzelHair (not immediately obvious since it's usually in a ponytail, and in one chibi page Naal even says [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6793 that Kiel's hair is longer than hers]])
* ReplacementGoldfish (played for laughs in [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7391 one chibi page]] where she makes a [[spoiler:Naal'ga]] then not so much when we see that she [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7716 actually did it]].)
** It's also stated that one reason she likes Nau'kheol is that [[spoiler:[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7721 he reminds her of Naal]].]]
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship (with Naal, see [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=1229 this]])
** [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6783 Yeah.]] Really. Now seems to be LesYay.
* SheCleansUpNicely (courtesy of Naal)
* {{Shotacon}} ([[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7721 played for laughs]], but not as squicky as some examples since it's more innocent than anything and they're not too far apart in age)
* TomboyishPonytail
* TraumaCongaLine (chapter 27 has [[spoiler:Naal's death]] and then chapter 28 has [[spoiler:her break down because of Naal's death, then be poisoned and have a nightmare where her body has become a doll and only live because one of her rivals was forced to save her life by Kharla, and then she's reminded of her own mother when she bursts in to kill Nyo'ka and sees her kids, and then break down ''again'']])
* YourMom (seems to like this tactic)

!!Mir'kiin Vel'Vloz'ress

* APlagueOnBothYourHouses ([[spoiler:his last words are promising that Kharla will kill all of them]])
* [[spoiler:AssholeVictim]] ([[spoiler:he may have had it coming, but the way he goes out is still pretty gruesome]])
* {{Delinquents}} (he eventually gets kicked out of all his classes at Orthorbbae, forcing him to leave the school [[spoiler:where Ariel nabs him]])
* GroinAttack (he tries this on Ariel, and when he finds [[CrotchGrabSexCheck there's nothing to grab]] he figures out that she's female)
* FailOSuckyname (it's not known if it was intentional, but his name is a homophone for [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merkin Merkin]], a pubic wig)
* HeManWomanHater (he's definitely this, but it was never explained why. In fact when he [[spoiler: stabs Ariel]] he can be see happily murmuring that [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive/20070218c02p084.JPG "there will be one less female in the world"]] as he makes his getaway.)
* {{Jerkass}} (his first words are complaining that he doesn't want to be in a class with a bunch of "girly freaks" and he gets progressively more jerkish, attempting to kill Ariel and later attacking her when they're on the same team)

!! Sene'kha Vel'Vloz'ress

* TheChessmaster
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder (comes naturally with the Vloz'ress, but Sene'kha seemed to be especially good at it to get to her position)
* CompleteMonster (One of the few characters the very vocal fanbase is in absolute agreement about, and even Kiel seems to think this [[invoked]]. Under Kiel's mom the Vloz'ress were a bunch of weird but harmless people and Kharla had the chance to recover from her trauma. Then Sene'kha manipulated Kharla into turning Kiel's mom into a living door knocker. The results: Kharla's condition got worse, the Vloz'ress turned into a clan of power hungry maniacs and Sene'kha's control over Kharla allowed her to rule the clan. [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5263 Also there's her plan to takeover Chel]] by turning Kharla into an EldritchAbomination.)
* TheDogBitesBack ([[spoiler:Kiel refuses to help her escape and leaves her to be executed]])
* ManipulativeBastard (is heavily implied to have purposely arranged Kiel's mother's death, and a sidestory shows that she actually went ''looking'' for Kharla and found her in her insane state)
* [[spoiler:OffWithHisHead]] ([[spoiler:but not before beating stabbed, beaten up, and then after being beheaded ''set on fire'' and having her aura sealed for good measure]])
* [[spoiler:RasputinianDeath]] (see above)
* ShoutOut (her name is likely a reference to [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seneca_the_Younger Seneca the Younger]], an advisor to Emperor Nero who was executed for supposedly being complicit in an assassination plot)
* TheStarscream (it's heavily implied that she pulled this on Kiel's mother)
* [[spoiler:SuicideByCop]] (she tries this after [[spoiler:Kiel refuses to help her break out, [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=810 and screams after her insults about her mother]] while her thought bubbles indicate that she wants Kiel to kill her so she can be "set free", i.e. either spared the Kyorl execution, able to release her seed to cause more destruction, or both]]. Unfortunately for Sene'kha, Kiel's already left.)

!!Kes'sen
Sene'kha's mate and Soul Seeker, he led the quest to bring back Discordia.

* {{Badass}} (look what it takes to [[spoiler:kill him]]!)
* TheDragon (to Sene'kha)
* DualWielding
* [[spoiler:EyesDoNotBelongThere]] ([[spoiler:when his seed starts to awaken he gains a second set of eyes above his own]])
* [[spoiler:KarmicDeath]] ([[spoiler:Kiel intentionally [[InvokedTrope invokes this]] by using her mother's golem against him]])
* [[spoiler: RasputinianDeath]] ([[spoiler: Is set upon by nagas, and after fighting through them narrowly survives a manabomb, two stab wounds to the abdomen, and a fire blast. Then he releases his seed only to have his head split by Kiel'ndia's chain weapon. People on the forums agree that this takes the cake for Rasputinian Deaths out of all the characters in the comic.]])
* ScarsAreForever (has several scars on his face)
* UnholyMatrimony (we never see them really interact, but it can be inferred he had this relationship with Sene'kha, though the gender roles were flipped due to drow society)

!! Larvova
A nether summoner in the clan.

* EnemyMine ([[spoiler:winds up in this situation with Kiel after she's poisoned and forced to save her life]])
* FacialMarkings (has what are probably tattoos that resemble stitch marks all over her face)
* InTheHood (almost always has her hood up)

!! Nyo'ka
A nether summoner within the clan.

* ChekhovsGunman ([[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1206 the scourges behind her in the last panel]] appear later [[spoiler:to watch Kiel succumb to the poison]])
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes (what Kiel realizes [[spoiler:when she bursts in to kill Nyo'ka and sees her kids]]. See also NotSoDifferent.)
* NotSoDifferent (Kiel realizes this when her children come out [[spoiler:after Kiel burst in to kill her]] and is reminded of her own mother)
* PetTheDog (the way she talks about [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1208 her children]])
* PutOnABus (she did this to [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7904 her kids]] by sending them to the Illhar'dro city of Nuqrah'shareh, though she had referenced [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6728 earlier]] that she was going to do this, and the two of them later appear [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1694 in chapters 33 and 34]], where their names are revealed to be Tamiir and Kys'sae, with Tamiir probably being the girl and Kys'sae probably being the boy)
* SnakesAreSexy (she's seen with a snake wrapped around one of her arms a couple times)
* [[spoiler:UnwittingPawn]] ([[spoiler:or something. Kiel was poisoned in such a way that Kharla thought Larvova did it, but Kharla was smart enough to get Larvova to save Kiel instead, only to have Nyo'ka's scourges show up to watch, suggesting that Nyo'ka ordered it, but she denies having anything to do with it.]])

!! Ven'ndia
Kiel's mother and the former leader of the group that later became the Vloz'ress, Ven'ndia's aura was sealed in a [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=455 puppet body]] by Kharla.

* AFateWorseThanDeath
* AndIMustScream (her puppet body is implied to still be conscious)
* DealWithTheDevil (she tainted herself knowing the risks, and [[spoiler:it's heavily implied that Snadhya'rune wanted her to help with the Nidraa'chal War, and when she refused [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=451 they were attacked]]]])
* DeceasedParentsAreTheBest (Demon worshipper or not, she's one of the best parents in the series. And dead. [[AFateWorseThanDeath We think]].)
* SpellMyNameWithAnS (Is it Ven'nedia, as she is called in Chapter 11, or Ven'ndia, as in Chapter 24 and after? It appears to be the second, and like Snadhya'runes vs. Snadhya'rune, has been quietly changed in the later chapters)
* TheFarmerAndTheViper (poor, poor Ven'ndia, she was just trying to help Kharla)
* WomanInWhite (her preferred style of dress suggests this)

!! Kuso and Baliir

* TheBigGuy (Baliir)
* BlueEyes (Kuso, and how he's managed to avoid getting tainted in the Vloz'ress is anyone's guess, since he's one of less than a handful we've seen that are untainted)
* EstrogenBrigadeBait (Kuso, as of [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7394 this page]], which caused many to express surprise that he's so pretty under the helmet)
* GentleGiant (Baliir, when he's not [[CurbStompBattle curb stomping people who challenge him]])
* HeterosexualLifePartners
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold (possibly Kuso, who despite his mouth doesn't seem that bad in general)
* PunchClockVillain (Kuso, at least, just joined to have some place to stay and work. Baliir on the other hand seems to genuinely believe in Sene'kha's cause)
* PunnyName ("Kuso" is a Japanese curse roughly equivalent to "damn" or "shit", and Kuso has quite the short fuse and foul mouth)
* SirSwearsalot (Kuso)
* ThoseTwoGuys
* TheUnreveal (at one point Baliir [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1451 takes off his mask]], and it disturbs the other customers enough that Kuso asks him to put it back on, but we don't actually get to see his face. Probably a good thing, if you consider what Larvova's berserker [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive//20100519c24p017.jpg looks like]].)
* WarriorPoet (Baliir)
* WellIntentionedExtremist (Baliir)

!!Ni'bai
A former Sharen of Nishi'kanta's bloodline, now a Vloz'ress nether summoner. Her twin, Ni'ju, is now a demon that serves her.

* AngstySurvivingTwin (considering that her sister [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=759 is a demon]] this trope is pretty easy to infer)
* FacialMarkings (like Kiel, has red lines that look like tear marks under her eyes)
* IgnoredEpiphany (not Ni'bai herself, but when she tries to tell Desmonde Kyorl'solenurn the truth about the War she's ignored)
* {{Stripperiffic}} (not by human standards save for her ImpossiblyLowNeckline, but by drow standards [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=741 walking around with a bare neck]] makes her even naughtier than Mel with her dental floss)

!! Nainai
An old human woman, she seems to be Kharla's caretaker.

* ButNotTooWhite (averted, since she may be a Rift Halme who was born underground, and thus has no natural coloring)
* TheCaretaker
* CoolOldLady
* MilkyWhiteEyes (on account of being blind)
* NeverMessWithGranny (fans have decided that she must be this if she's survived in the Vloz fortress)
* ParentalSubstitute (to both Kiel and Kharla)

!! Umpus
An intelligent demon (aka Vel'Akar) possessing the body of a drow/naga symbiote and serves as Sene'kha's attendant. Much like Khaless for Snadhya'rune, Umpus is every loyal to the Vlozress ideals set out by Sene'kha and later [[spoiler: is seen to be plotting with Ni'bai to revive the old idea of bringing a demon god into the world by using Discordia as bait]].

* AnimeHair (has short and spiky hair not seen on any other male character)
* BlankWhiteEyes (save for red schlera, this signifies that he is fully demon, not merely a tainted drow)
* DistaffCounterpart (this appears to be the case with him and Khaless, though its unknown how their respective power levels match up)
* FacialMarkings (he is noticeably tattoed all over his upper body)
* FluffyTamer (was visibly sympathetic to Discordia whilst the latter was being captured, stroking her arm while the other characters just comment on how easy it was to capture the shard)
* HiddenAgendaVillain (it is too early to tell if he is a ''villain'', but as of yet readers know nothing about his true motives)
* TattooedCrook (as seen above, he is covered in body markings)
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Val'Nal'sarkoth Clan]]
The Nal'sarkoth are originally from another underground city called Mimaneid, which is why they [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive//20090401c16cover.jpg appear somewhat darker than standard Chelians, as well as seeming to have shorter ears than other drow]]. In some ways a rival to the Val'Illhar'dro as both clans hold a monopoly on trade, though they also work together for their mutual benefit and are on friendly terms with each other. It also helps that their trade links are mutually co-operative, the Ill'hardro mostly focus on underworld contacts and expansion, whereas the Nal'Sarkoth specialise in overworld trade and settlements as explained by the writers in the [[http://www.drowtales.com/wordpress/?p=825 Nal'Sarkoth clan podcast]].

!The Clan as a whole
* AllThereInTheManual (the clan's history, as written by the clan's creators)
* AnimalMotifs (their clan mount appears to be some type of [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive//20060226c02p026.JPG yak]] called a Haledri)
* ContestWinnerCameo (a variation, in that they were created by two fans as part of a contest and then added to the series' official canon, and as a fairly major player in Chel's political scene, too)
* ElementalEyeColors (most members of the clan seem to have GreenEyes, which fits with the fact that they tend to have wood affinities)
* EveryoneWentToSchoolTogether (its not canon that the two clans would recognise each other, but it has now been confirmed that the Jaal'darya also once lived in Mimaneid)
* GreenThumb (the clan's [[PlanetOfHats hat]], since they're among the only people in Chel who know how to work with plants, have affinities for wood and have major ties to the surface, and because green dye is expensive and hard to get they use it as their clan's color)
* HufflepuffHouse (so far they've played this role in the main story, but they're very important in the Path To Power game)
* IntrepidMerchant (Like the Illhar'dro they have many ties to the surface and trade is their main source of income.)
* NobleFugitive (the entire clan became this after having to flee their home city of Mimaneid before they settled in Chel)
* OddCouple (Their house is made up of various races not just drow. This is due to a need to bulk up their numbers and the fact that their trading covers a vast network area. Some dwarves and even halmes head minor sub-houses but when entering Chel are almost always accompanied by a drow.)
* ProperlyParanoid (they designed their home in Chel so that an attack like the one that drove them out of Mimaneid couldn't happen again, and they actively cultivate positive relationships with other clans to avoid the jealousy and discontent that caused it)
* SelfMadeOrphan (Rel'lumia's second daughter attempted this but failed)

!! Rel'lumia Val'Nal'sarkoth
The Illharess of the Val'Nal'sarkoth clan.

* CharacterTics ([[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive//20090424c16p015.jpg Gesturing with her fan]])
* GreenThumb (As is her clan's hat.)
* [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair You Gotta Have Green Hair]]

!! Ini'riia Val'Nal'sarkoth
Rel'lumia's eldest daughter and heir. She knows Kel'noz from many years ago, appearing in early chapters chronicling Ariel starting Orthobbae. She has also appeared in a Daydream story chronicling Mel'arnach's own years at Orthobbae.

* CurtainsMatchTheWindow (though her hair is almost certainly dyed)
* HotMom (of Gailen)
* NewOldFlame (for Kel'noz if you take the Daydream story as canon)

!! Gailen Val'Nal'sarkoth
Ini'riia's youngest son, and a classmate of Ariel's.

* BlueEyes (perhaps inherited from his father)
* BobHaircut (how his hair is styled)
* CoolPet (his tiktikki)
* DisappearedDad (his father is from another city, though Ini'riia hopes to [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=159 meet him again someday]])
* GreenThumb (like most Nal'Sarkoth)
* MulticoloredHair (his hair is mostly green, but blue near the tips)
* TheQuietOne (his first spoken line of dialog is [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=173 15 pages after his first appearance]])
* SecurityBlanket (how he seems to use his tiktikki)
* ShrinkingViolet (during introductions he [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=158 looks very nervous]] and [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=160 clutches his tiktikki]])

[[folder:Val'Jaal'darya Clan]]

One of the clans to rise to power in Chel after the decline of the Sharess religion. Something of a WildCard in Chelian politics, they nevertheless supply technology and healing arts not seen amongst the rest of Chel so no one can actually afford to oppose them.

!The Clan as a whole:
* AnimalMotifs (The [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=166 biogolems]], which are sterile and technically not a species due to this, are the closest thing the Jaal have to a clan animal)
* ArtificialLimbs (besides making replacement limbs, they also make tails and wings for themselves)
* DealWithTheDevil (many of their deals are like this, for instance [[spoiler:Snadhya'rune]] paying for [[spoiler:Kalki's birth]] was said to have drained her assets for nearly a year, and it came with massive strings attached. This is also why [[spoiler:Quain'tana refused to pay for them to give her a child]].)
** The Jaal'darya podcast also says that if they were to do something like [[GenderBender turn a male into a female]] (something [[spoiler:Kel'noz]] is said to have considered) so he could have children they would probably want the first child.
* [[spoiler:DeepCoverAgent]] (Wafay believes that [[spoiler:her mother is in fact a Nidraa'chal agent]]. And to make it worse, [[spoiler:she's been developing the parasitic flower]]. [[OhCrap You can panic now]].)
* DoesNotLikeMen (to varying extents. They almost always cover themselves up in the presence of men but wear whatever they want around other Women. Some Jaal'darya despise men, while others feel sorry for them and want to [[GenderBender turn them into women]])
* [[EvenEvilHasStandards Even Morally Ambiguous Mad Scientists Have Standards]] (the Jaal don't seem to have many scruples, and are willing to use things up to and including [[spoiler:[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7045 biological warfare]]]], but it's heavily implied that even the Jaal'darya don't fool around when it comes to demons)
* {{Foreshadowing}} (during the Jaal'darya podcast, the writer of the comic mentions that besides entire clans bargaining with the Jaal'darya, it's also possible for an individual to make a bargain with one member of the Jaal that the rest of the clan may or may not know about. In hindsight, this was pretty clearly referencing [[spoiler:Kalki's birth]])
* HiddenElfVillage (their fortress is hidden on a giant lake somewhere in the Underworld)
* HomosexualReproduction (their ultimate goal is to eliminate the need for men entirely when it comes to procreation. [[spoiler:As Kalki demonstrates, they succeeded]].)
* InTheHood (a frequent part of their fashion)
* LadyLand (even more so than typical drow)
* MadScientist (pretty much their clan's [[PlanetOfHats Hat]])
* NobleFugitive ([[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?id=1806 twice over]], once from their homeland of Damadi and again from Mimaneid)
* NoBiologicalSex (WordOfGod is that the Jaal's biogolems technically do not have a physical sex, and thus are sterile)
* ProfessorGuineaPig (they use themselves for experiments)
* ShroudedInMyth (the entire clan, and a current Daydream story about the clan is explicitly non-canon [[http://forums.drowtales.com/viewtopic.php?f=88&t=16305 except for certain bits]])
* VetinariJobSecurity (the Jaal'darya are correctly regarded as being manipulative, but they hold the monopoly on their technology, which everyone wants and/or needs, so no one can afford to oppose them)
* WellIntentionedExtremist (while their methods are extreme and basically amount to a {{Gendercide}}, they seem to honestly want the drow race to survive, and Asira makes a [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=921 very good point]] against the Sharen's "wait it out" policy)
** They also [[spoiler:[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7045 deliberately infected a group of unknowing Relic Hunters]] with an ancient fungus as a back up plan in case of a Sharen reprisal against them, since even tainting won't protect them if their bodies are rotting. Given what we know about the Sharen, the Jaal's actions, while disgusting, make a surprising amount of sense.]]

!!Asira'malika Val'Jaal'darya
The Ill'haress of the Jaal'darya, little is known about her outside of her appearance in chapter 16.
* DetachedSleeves
* FanNickname ("Drow MichaelJackson" due to how weird her skin looks)
* FemmeFatalons
* MilkyWhiteEyes (her irises, at least, are white. Her schlera are actually a dark brown or dark red.)
* NoblewomansLaugh ("[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=930 Ku ku ku]]!")
* ProfessorGuineaPig (the reason her skin looks the way it does is because she tried to make herself look like a Dark Elf. It didn't work.)
* {{Stripperiffic}} (her clothing, which leaves her stomach completely bare, though this may be to show off the fact that she appears to be pregnant.)
* [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair You Gotta Have Burgundy Hair]]

!! Wi'am Val'Jaal'darya
A Jaal'darya friend of Mel'arnach's. [[spoiler:She also helped create Kalki]].

* ArtificialLimbs (gave herself a tail)
* BareYourMidriff
* ChekhovsGunman (not her, but [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=484 the biogolem]] [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6850 she gave Mel]] appeared all the way back in Chapter 8, and she finally appears on panel [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6838 in chapter 25]])
* FromACertainPointOfView (what she tells Mel, mainly that [[spoiler:Mel's egg]] was being used for "an experiment" but what Wiam left out was that said experiment was [[spoiler:Kalki]])
* HornedHairdo (which may be to indicate [[spoiler:her deception towards Mel]])
* MadScientist (can be inferred based on her membership in the Jaa'darya, not to mention [[spoiler:the whole thing with Kalki]].)
* SecretKeeper (for [[spoiler:Snadhya'rune]], involving [[spoiler:Kalki, up to and including getting one of Mel's eggs to make her]])
* WellIntentionedExtremist (she uses some pretty extreme methods to [[spoiler:make Kalki]], described by [[spoiler:Snadhya'rune]] as "horrifying", but she seems genuinely happy when seen with [[spoiler:[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6842 the infant Kalki]]]])
* [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair You Gotta Have Burgundy Hair]]

!! Wafay Val'Jaal'darya
A young member of the clan who debuted after the 15-year {{Timeskip}}. She is the daughter of Femi, [[spoiler:and suspects that her mother is a Nidraa'chal agent]], causing her to seek out the Sarghress.

* AnimalEaredHeadband (Her hood gives her the appearance of having cat ears, which considering her clan, is a very real possibility, though Wafay herself doesn't have any.)
* AnimalEyes (Her eyes sometimes become narrow slits like a cat.)
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
* PluckyGirl

!! Sata
Wafay's biogolem, he seems to be her protector.

* NoBiologicalSex (like all Jaal'darya golems, Sata technically doesn't have a biological sex, though WordOfGod has used [[http://www.drowtales.com/wordpress/?p=3711#comments male pronouns]] to refer to him)
* OculoThorax (his actual body, though he can be put into a golem suit that looks more like a standard body)

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Others]]

!Rikshakar

* [[spoiler:AssholeVictim]] ([[spoiler:of Discordia]])
* AttemptedRape (twice)
* FreudianExcuse (he really hasn't had an easy life, and Ariel even acknowledges it when [[spoiler:he tries to rape her]], but that doesn't stop [[spoiler:her beating him up and the KarmicDeath]])
* IHaveYouNowMyPretty
* {{Jerkass}} (very)
* [[spoiler:Karmic Death]]
* LastOfHisKind (or really only one of his kind)
* MixAndMatchMan (Rik was created as an experiment breeding dragons and drow, and WordOfGod is that his mother was a drow slave, who while not stated probably suffered DeathByChildbirth)
* PsychopathicManchild (can be read as this, especially whenever he loses)

!Zhor
Originally a Dark Elf turned into a spider after receiving life threatening injuries, Zhor is Mel's constant companion [[spoiler:and the father of her child, Ariel]].

* InterspeciesRomance (despite appearances, Zhor is actually a subversion, since he's a Dark Elf that was transformed into his current state)
* [[spoiler:[[LukeIAmYourFather Ariel I Am Your Father]]]] ([[spoiler:lord knows how she's going to take ''that'']])
* TheUnintelligible (due to being a spider, the most he can do is chitter)
* ShapeshiftingSquick ([[spoiler:how Ariel was conceived]]).
** One of the editors recently clarified that the actual process of shapeshifting wasn't involved in [[spoiler:Ariel's conception]], but the sheer fact that he's, y'know, a ''spider'' still makes it fall under this.
* WasOnceAMan (Dark Elf, that is)

!Discordia
A sentient demon and shard of a great demon god. Was originally summoned to fight in the Black Dragon arena, but has since escaped and taken over another body, which is being hunted by the Vloz'ress so they can summon another demon and TakeOverTheWorld.

* AbsoluteCleavage (crosses into FanDisservice [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1107 here]])
* BlueAndOrangeMorality (as a demon, she really has no concept of morality and acts purely on instinct)
* GrandTheftMe (how she got her current body)
* MacGuffinGirl (sort of, if by "girl" you mean "bloodthirsty demon)
* MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily
* PsychopathicManchild

!Sha'sana
The former headmistress of Orthorbbae, she narrates part of the Prologue and appeared in [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=40 one page]], where it's implied that Snadhya'rune killed her. [[spoiler:She later turns up alive and well in Chapter 25, and appears to be biding her time until Snadhya's plot implodes]].

* [[spoiler:ChekhovsGunman]]
* DeceptiveDisciple (Snadhya'rune was this to her, and Sha'sana knew it by the time she was betrayed)
* GoneHorriblyWrong (the tainting process, which originally was a device to help the drow resettle the surface. However [[spoiler: Snadhya'rune warped it to fit her own plans for takeover with intentionally faulty seeds]])
* [[spoiler:MummiesAtTheDinnerTable]] ([[spoiler:it's hard to not think of how she's keeping Sharess' body as this]])
* NeglectfulPrecursors (besides being a surviving dark elf, Sha'sana was also largely responsible for the current trend of tainting, though the Nidraa'chal were not her direct doing)
* PersonOfMassDestruction (though not yet shown, given what we know about her and what we can infer from what [[spoiler:[[http://www.drowtales.com/longestwaitarchive//20050719c1p023.JPG Diva'ratrika]]]] was capable of, Sha'sana is probably a ''massively'' powerful dark elf)
* SeenItAll (has this tone, and WildMassGuessing is that she's inherited memories from her ancestors)
* [[spoiler:SomebodyElsesProblem]] ([[spoiler:[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6876 how she feels about Chel]], since her only goal is to resurrect Sharess. Lulianne is not happy to hear this, at all]])
* TimeDissonance (she refers to periods of 25 or 30 years like they're a few minutes, and seems to have a detached and bored tone when talking about [[spoiler:how Snadhya'rune's plot will fall apart soon enough]])
* WellIntentionedExtremist (her research into stable demonic seeds was meant to help the drow resettle the surface, and she hoped to find a way to remove the seeds at some point as well)
* WingdingPupils (her pupils are shaped like spirals, and according to WordOfGod this is due to her undergoing a sort of tainting that's not quite demonic tainting but similar. The implications of [[spoiler:[[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=6445 Liriel]]]]'s eyes turning the same way as [[spoiler:Diva'ratrika starts to manifest]] is that she has undergone some sort of aura fusion)

!Sharess
The savior of the Dark Elves from the nether beings and leader of her people into the Underworld, Sharess was worshipped as the Goddess of her people for centuries, but by the time of the story the religion had largely died off save for the Kyorl'solenurn and a few pockets of worshippers.

* FacialMarkings (the nine-eyed mark is her symbol, and that of the Val'Sharess and those associated with her ([[hottip:* :Sharen use the nine moons symbol for themselves, and the two sometimes overlap, but generally speaking Nine Eyes = Sharess, Nine Moons = Sharen]]) )
* ''[[TheHighQueen The]]'' [[TheHighQueen High Queen]]
* MessianicArchetype
* OhMyGods (in-story, people use "Sharess" or "Goddess" in place of "God" in many exclamations)
* [[spoiler:PeopleJars]] ([[spoiler:her body is kept in one by Sha'sana]])
* ThePromise (her pledge to return the Dark Elves to the surface, though it hasn't been fulfilled yet and many Dark Elves lost hope that it ever would)
* RapunzelHair
* TheThreeFacesOfEve (in-story, [[http://www.drowtales.com/longestwait.php?order=date&id=56 iconography often depicts three aspects of her]], presumably the Queen, the Warrior and the Goddess)

! Vala Hudr
The ruler of the light elves of Vanaheimr.
* HairOfGold
* HelloNurse (The fanbase had this reaction when she first appeared in Chapter 29.)
* NiceHat
* [[PuppetKing Puppet Queen]] (implied [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1170 here]])
* [[{{Seers}} Seer]] (and apparently Chiri's powers inferfere with hers. Given that so far the only three characters who are able to see the future are light elves or drowussu [[spoiler:the descendents of them]] it seems to be a racial trait)

! Freyja

One of the light elves imprisoned in Nagyscyed. She and the other elves were eventually rescued by Ariel and her gang in the "Rescue Faen" arc before splitting up to travel with Chiri'nide and Shan'naal. Sweet and demure she has hopes of finding her brother and her city homeland after being rescued.

* BigBrotherMentor (Myou Kyorl'solenuurn was a female version of this to her in Nagyscyed and her actual brother Freyr also fits the trope in general.)
* TheCutie
* EveryoneLovesBlondes
* HairOfGold
* TheIngenue
* ThePollyanna
* PrincessClassic (See below.)
* SaveThePrincess (Not a princess but as the daughter of a high ranking light Elf she fits the trope)
* ThemeNaming (Like her brother her name comes from {{Norse Mythology}}.)
* WideEyedIdealist ([[spoiler: She has no idea of what really happened to her friends in Vanaheimr and accepts her brother's version of events without question]])

! Freyr

Freyja's older brother. He was separated from her when they were outside their home city and she was eventually captured by Halme slave traders. He has been looking for her ever since.

* BadAssCape (Subverted. [[spoiler: Chirinide still beats him to a pulp even when he is wearing it.]])
* [[BecauseYouWereNiceToMe Because You Were Nice To My Sister]] ([[spoiler: Admits that this trope is the only reason he helped Shan'naal, Chirinide and Myou escape Vanaheimr.]])
* BigBrotherMentor (Is very much a caring older brother to Freyja. One of the first hints to show that he may not be all bad)
* [[spoiler: GovernmentConspiracy (Chapter 29 doesn't go into much detail about his father's plans but he and Freyr seem to want to abolish the caste system in Vanaheimr.]])
* GrumpyBear (Initially)
* JerkAss
* KnightTemplarBigBrother (For Freyja)
* NiceHat
* NobleBigot (Extremely prejudiced against those not from Vanaheimr)
* NotSoDifferent (He and Chirinide both acknowledge the need for change in the outlooks of both their peoples. [[spoiler: However Freyr coldly states that the prisoners killed " were no more light elves than you are" to Chirinide.]])
* PowerOfTrust ([[spoiler: He only helps Chirinide, Shan'naal and Myou escape because they helped Freyja back in Nagyscyed]])
* ShinyMidnightBlack (His black hair is drawn with blue highlights in it)
* StrongFamilyResemblance (Is a miniature version of his father)
* ThemeNaming (He and his sister both have names from {{Norse Mythology}}).
* WarriorPrince (Not a prince but he is the son of a high ranking light elf and a competent fighter so he fits the trope)

!! Tralyn the Clanless

An aged history teacher in the Legs (i.e. male section) of Orthorbbae. He first appears in Chapter 2, stunning Ariel and her other classmates with his visibly aged appearance. Well versed in the knowledge of Drow history and culture he is a favourite amongst the pupils of Orthobbae Legs and [[spoiler: is the one to suggest that Faen run away to the surface after she injures Nihi'liir and critically wounds a teacher]]. He also appears to be on good terms with Kel'noz.

* TheChessmaster ([[spoiler: who knows exactly what he and the other headmasters (including Kel'noz) are plotting]])
* CoolOldGuy (much like Rosof of the Sarghress he is notably lined and haggard in the face, due to spending a long time away from the mana pool. Unlike Rosof though, he will not age further because he was not away for ''too'' long and got back to Chel quickly enough.)
* GreenEyes (of the bright and vivid variety)
* TheMagnificent (his moniker ''the clan-less'')
* MysteriousPast (again regarding his moniker. When Ariel and her classmates ask him about he claims that it is a story for another time)

* AnimalMotifs (The unicorn)
* LightIsNotGood

* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
* [[{{Seers}} Seer]]

* CurtainsMatchTheWindow (leading to...)
* EyesOfGold
* HairOfGold
* HalfBreed (due to her Light Elf father grew up calling herself this, though she's the only one who seems to care [[spoiler:and later subverted when we find out that light elves are to drowussu what dark elves are to drow]])
* HoldingHands (with [[spoiler:Shan'naal]])
* [[{{Seers}} Seer]]
* TeethClenchedTeamwork (with Kyo'nne)

* {{Bishonen}}
* EstrogenBrigadeBait
* FacialMarkings (WordOfGod says that the mark on his forehead represents how he shields Chiri and that's why it's larger and bolder)
* KnightTemplar (more mellow than Chiri, which [[PrinciplesZealot isn't saying much]], but he's still one of these, best demonstrated [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=368 here]])
* MulticoloredHair
* RedOniBlueOni (with Chiri, as the blue oni)

!!Ky'ovarde Kyorl'solenurn

One of the wardens in the Order of The Twin Eyes. She takes her job of demon slaying ''very'' seriously.

* EyepatchOfPower

* CoolBigSis
* TheMentor (For Freyja and [[spoiler: briefly for Faen in the dungeons]].)
* [[MrExposition MsExposition]] (Often acts as translator on behalf of Chiri'nide and the light elf prisoners)
* RoseHairedGirl

* GrayEyes
* MisBlamed ({{In-universe}}, Zala'ess blames her for the original Vy'chriel's refusal to get tainted, but Yakuise says she had nothing to do with it)
* ProperLady
* {{Seer}}

* {{Bishonen}}
* GrayEyes
* WhiteHairedPrettyBoy

* BlueEyes ([[spoiler:Originally]])
* EstrogenBrigadeBait ([[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=623 In universe]] as well as out)
* [[spoiler:IDontWantToDie]] ([[spoiler:what causes him to ScrewDestiny]])

* CarryABigStick
* MadEye
* TheNeidermeyer
* PrinciplesZealot

* TheEmpath
* FragileFlower
* [[GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals Girls Love Cute Animals]] (Best way to calm her down when she suffers negative side effects from her powers? [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive//20051122c12p013.jpg Give her a tikk'tikki]].)
* IllGirl
* InTheHood
* SquishyWizard
* WomanInWhite

!! Ano'Toti Kyorl'solenurn

A Crusader for the Order of Twin Eyes. He is paired with Mili'ani when on missions but also provides emotional support for Ae'theriss. First appears in Chapter 12.

* ChildSoldier
* HairOfGold
* IWillProtectHer (Towards Ae'theriss)
* LivingEmotionalCrutch (For Ae'theriss who physically relies on him to be her shield)
* PrinciplesZealot

* MagicMusic (the Illhar'dro specialty)

* ActualPacifist (which is a rarity amongst Drow females, let alone Ill'haresses, though Sara'hilana Balvhakara believes that her pacifist ways have [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=1724 hurt her]])
* BeCarefulWhatYouSay (During the council Nega'fanae [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5579 is]] [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5778 very]] [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5781 proud]] [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=5791 of]] Nuqrah'shareh to the point that Kharla'ggen effectively tells her to shut up about it, and extols its virtues at every opportunity, but after the 15 year timeskip [[spoiler:she probably regrets that, considering that the city has been destabilized by all the refugees pouring in from other cities, possibly even ''because'' she was so vocal about how great her city was]])
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow

* CoyGirlishFlirtPose
* HairDecorations
* GirlishPigtails
* MagicMusic (the Illhar'dro specialty)

* CampGay
* LargeHam ([[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7064 Yup]])
* StrongFamilyResemblance (to his mother)

!! Jal'na Val'Illhar'dro

Nega'fanae's favorite daughter and Sorane'saniil's mother, she is Nega'fanae's second in command and overseer of the Illhar'dro base in Chel'el'sussoloth. She appears to be a strict disciplinarian.

* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
* ParentalFavoritism (as seen above)

!! Sandaur'recherrai Val'Illhar'dro

A battle instructor in the Davya Tower at Orthobbae. He was first seen in Chapter 2 training Ariel's class in battle skills before being OutOfFocus until Chapter 33 [[spoiler:where he dies]].

* [[spoiler:BackForTheDead]]

She's willing to [[spoiler:pull a coup in the middle of a civil war, attempt regicide and order Sandaur killed]] which probably qualifies her for this)
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow

* KnightTemplar (the Duskians)
* MartialPacifist (The Jie'yen)
* {{Ninja}} (The Jie'yen)
* PoweredArmor (worn by the Balvhakara troops)
* ShortHairWithTail (Agneya'mukhi Balvhakara)

* AnimalMotifs (the spider)

* {{Goth}}
* HotMom
* PeekABangs

* CryCute (see NotSoStoic)
* [[spoiler:DemonicPossession]]
* ElegantGothicLolita (many of her clothes, especially when she was younger, and [[http://www.drowtales.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/youngnaal_kiel_small.jpg one sketch]] of a young Naal describes her as "doll-like")
* EmotionlessGirl (somewhat, since she does show emotion, just comparatively little of it)
* GrayEyes (originally)
* PerkyGoth (originally)

* DraggedIntoDrag (along with [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7067 Nau'kheol]])
* GirlishPigtails (gets these when he gets DraggedIntoDrag)
* GrayEyes

* EvilIsVisceral (their fortress definitely seems to play off this)
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits (originally)

* AbsoluteCleavage
* GirlsLoveStuffedAnimals (she loves plushies)
* PuppetPermutation (her specialty)

* TheChessmaster (one in training)
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold
* SheCleansUpNicely (courtesy of Naal)
* {{Shotacon}} ([[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?sid=7721 played for laughs]], but not as squicky as some examples since it's more innocent than anything and they're not too far apart in age)
* TomboyishPonytail

* TheChessmaster
* [[spoiler:RasputinianDeath]] (see above)

* TheDragon (to Sene'kha)
* DualWielding

* AFateWorseThanDeath

* TheBigGuy (Baliir)
* GentleGiant (Baliir, when he's not [[CurbStompBattle curb stomping people who challenge him]])
* HeterosexualLifePartners
* SirSwearsalot (Kuso)
* ThoseTwoGuys
* WarriorPoet (Baliir)
* WellIntentionedExtremist (Baliir)

* TheCaretaker
* CoolOldLady

* HotMom (of Gailen)
* NewOldFlame (for Kel'noz if you take the Daydream story as canon)

!! Gailen Val'Nal'sarkoth
Ini'riia's youngest son, and a classmate of Ariel's.

* BlueEyes (perhaps inherited from his father)
* BobHaircut (how his hair is styled)
* CoolPet (his tiktikki)
* DisappearedDad (his father is from another city, though Ini'riia hopes to [[http://www.drowtales.com/mainarchive.php?order=chapters&id=159 meet him again someday]])
* GreenThumb (like most Nal'Sarkoth)

[[/folder]]

* DetachedSleeves
* FanNickname ("Drow MichaelJackson" due to how weird her skin looks)
* FemmeFatalons

* BareYourMidriff

* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
* PluckyGirl

!Rikshakar

* [[spoiler:AssholeVictim]] ([[spoiler:of Discordia]])
* AttemptedRape (twice)
* FreudianExcuse (he really hasn't had an easy life, and Ariel even acknowledges it when [[spoiler:he tries to rape her]], but that doesn't stop [[spoiler:her beating him up and the KarmicDeath]])
* IHaveYouNowMyPretty
* {{Jerkass}} (very)
* [[spoiler:Karmic Death]]

* MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily
* PsychopathicManchild

* [[spoiler:ChekhovsGunman]]

* MessianicArchetype
* OhMyGods (in-story, people use "Sharess" or "Goddess" in place of "God" in many exclamations)
* [[spoiler:PeopleJars]] ([[spoiler:her body is kept in one by Sha'sana]])
* ThePromise (her pledge to return the Dark Elves to the surface, though it hasn't been fulfilled yet and many Dark Elves lost hope that it ever would)
* RapunzelHair

* HairOfGold
* HelloNurse (The fanbase had this reaction when she first appeared in Chapter 29.)
* NiceHat

* TheCutie
* EveryoneLovesBlondes
* HairOfGold
* TheIngenue
* ThePollyanna
* PrincessClassic (See below.)

* GrumpyBear (Initially)
* JerkAss
* KnightTemplarBigBrother (For Freyja)
* NiceHat
