* AmbiguousDisorder: Averted. Toushiro is diagnosed with PTSD by a psychologist and spends the fic learning to cope with it.

* HurtingHero: He is haunted by his trauma and past failures, like his inability to protect [[BreakTheCutie Momo Hinamori]]. They are the reason he is determined to never let innocents be hurt again.

* AdultFear: He worries about all his students, but especially Toushiro. Toushiro's PTSD and background as a victim of experimentation concerns and angers Aizawa to no end.

* RealityEnsues: She may be an intelligent student, strategist, and leader, but she is still a 15 year-old girl who is emotionally unprepared to help a classmate when they have a panic attack. She is indecisive and panics while Bakugo is the one who helps Toushiro in the end.

* HonorBeforeReason: He follows a ThouShallNotKill, black and white moral high ground that sometimes drifts into a HolierThanThou attitude. This often results in him failing to emphasize with those that have a more pragmatic approach to fighting and heroism.

* SirSwearsALot: He's the resident pottymouth of the characters and drops f-bombs and curses every few words.

* AscendedExtra: In his canon series he is a side character. In ''Dragon Blade'' he is the main protagonist that drives the plot forward in his quest to return home and figure out how Hollows are appearing on the pro-hero world.

* DeathGlare: He gives one to his fellow students when they push him too far or he wants them to drop a touchy subject. Bakugo and Todoroki back off under his glare but Midoriya is so determined to get Toushiro to open up he barely flinches.

* GreyAndGrayMorality: In contrast to the other UA students, Toushiro knows that labels such as "hero", "vigilante", and "villain" are societal constructs that do not take into account the actions or motivations of individual people. A hero such as [[AbusiveParents Endeavor]] can be a bad person. Laws meant to protect people might only get them killed instead, so those laws can and should be broken to save lives.

* TraumaButton: He has many which cause him to panic or have flashbacks.

* CharacterShilling: Downplayed. The narration, story summary, and characters (such as Todoroki, Uraraka, and Iida) go on and on about how all-loving, forgiving, and pure Izuku is, but Izuku's own internal narration and the story itself contradict this by showing he is stubborn, judgmental, prone to seeing the worst in Toushiro rather than give him the benefit of the doubt, and slow to look past his misconceptions in order to see other's point of view. In his mind, if you are a hero, you are good, but if you kill, you are immediately a villain. This is made worse by his belief that vigilantes are almost as bad as villains. This makes his apparently intended [[IncorruptiblePurePureness "pure cinnamon roll"]] personality an InformedAttribute until he lets go of his biases and supports Toushiro [[spoiler:after his secrets are revealed]].

* {{Adorkable}}: Lacks confidence, easily flustered, stammers a lot, eager, friendly, slightly nerdy, and rambles internally about how cute Uraraka's freckles are. He is also very passionate about hero stuff.

* BadassAdorable: He's a cute, cheerful, adorkable teen who is a huge fanboy of all things Hero (especially All-Might related). He's also capable of taking down adults and huge opponents on his own with One For All.

* {{Adorkable}}: She rambles excitedly about Toushiro's abilities when she realizes he can bypass the laws of quantum physics.

* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: In the fic, Toushiro has PTSD, flashbacks, self-worth issues, and starts sobbing in Aizawa's arms in his dorm one night. In the manga he shows no sign of trauma and keeps it together.

* AnimalEyes: His pupils occasionally become slits like a dragon's.
* AntiHero: He is perfectly willing to kill enemies as long as they are not humans. If humans are working to hurt humanity, however, he is willing to kill them too. This puts him into conflict with [[BlackAndWhiteMorality Midoriya]] and other UA characters.

* MyGreatestFailure: His inability to protect Hinamori from Aizen. She may be alive, but the cheerful girl she once was [[BrokenBird is dead]] because of what Aizen did to her.

* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: He was rejected, feared, and bullied back in Soul Society to the point where he expects everyone to abandon him once they find out about his powers. He is shocked when the students and faculty at UA continue to support him and compliment his abilities after he loses control of them [[spoiler:and nearly kills Endeavor]]. He's so used to being rejected he thinks the nine students waiting for him after the incident are going to ''attack'' him. [[spoiler:Toushiro is brought to tears when his friends accept him even after the truth about his past is revealed.]]

* WhatTheHellHero: He calls out Endeavor for being so egotistical that he tries to [[spoiler:get Toushiro committed to a mental institution.]]

* AdaptationalJerkass: This Endeavor is even worse than canon's pre-CharacterDevelopment Endeavor. The fic's version of Endeavor lacks ''any'' good qualities and is a [[HateSink completely antagonistic and loathsome character]]. He is petty, antagonistic towards Toushiro for little to no reason, and not above [[spoiler:trying to get a teenager committed to a mental institution]] because [[SoreLoser he lost to him]]. He's willing to stoop that low simply because his pride was hurt. Even his desire to surpass All Might comes purely out of envy rather than a desire to better himself as is the case in the manga.

* {{Jerkass}}: Arrogant, prideful, an AbusiveParent, and tries to [[spoiler:get Toushiro committed]] because the latter defeated him.
* SoreLoser: He tries to get Toushiro [[spoiler:''committed to a mental institution'']] because he lost to him.

* HonorBeforeReason: He follows a ThouShallNotKill, black and white moral high ground that sometimes drifts into a HolierThanThou attitude. This often results in him failing to emphasize with those that have a more pragmatic approach to fighting heroism.

* AnimalEyes: His pupils occasionally become slitted like a dragon's.

* UnderestimatingBadassery: The pro-heroes and villains look at him and see a fifteen year-old. Unaware of his real age, many are blindsided by the power and prowess with which he fights. When Hollows attack UA, All-Might tries to protect Toushiro but instead Toushiro protects him and defeats their enemies singlehandedly.

* {{Adorkable}}: Unconfident, easily flustered, stammers a lot, eager, friendly, slightly nerdy, and rambles internally about how cute Ururaka's freckles are. He is also very passionate about hero stuff.
* AesopAmnesia: He has been encouraged to keep an open mind and try to see things from Toushiro's POV multiple times. [[spoiler:The lesson finally sticks after he learns about Toushiro's past and thus comes to understand him better.]]
* AmbiguouslyBi: He has a crush on Ururaka, [[CantSpitItOut not that he can gather the courage to tell her]], but is also struck speechless when Toushiro [[WhenHeSmiles smiles]]. Midoriya is blown away by how attractive he looks and thinks Toushiro could snag any girl or guy in school with that grin.

* CrushBlush: Midoriya blushes when thinking about Ururaka's freckles. He blushes more when she appears.

* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Along with the rest of the UA students, he is not privy to most information about Toushiro and his [[DarkAndTroubledPast background]]. [[spoiler:In chapter thirty-two, he and his classmates are brought into the loop.]]

* GoodIsNotSoft: He is one of the few characters who will kill. Work with the Arrancar to try to kill humanity and he will kick your ass or kill you, like how he kills [[spoiler:All-for-One.]]

* HeroWithBadPublicity: Toushiro would not call himself a hero, but he works for the good of humanity by protecting them from Hollows and other similar threats. The pro-heroes, police, and the public fail to realize that and he is labeled a villain by many.

* TheProtagonist: He is the primary viewpoint character of the story and the one most involved in the plot.
