[[folder:The Inquisitor]]

!!The Inquisitor / The Herald of Andraste

->''"Whatever we were before, we are now...the Inquisition."''

->'''Voiced by:''' ''Alix Wilton Regan (British Female), Creator/SumaleeMontano (American Female), Harry Hadden-Paton (British Male), Jon Curry (American Male)''

The PlayerCharacter of the game, who can be of either gender and hail from a number of different races (humans, dwarves, elves, and Qunari). Unlike [[Characters/DragonAgeOriginsPlayableCharactersTheWarden the Warden]] , but like [[Characters/DragonAgeIIHawkeEstate Hawke]], the Inquisitor is fully voiced.
----
* ActionGirl: If female.
* AgentPeacock: A male Inquisitor who wears makeup is just as awesome as one who doesn't.
* AllLovingHero / DarkMessiah: The developers have said that the Inquisitor will be able to bring the other factions under their banner, either through diplomacy, alliances and mutual respect, or simply by crushing them underfoot and bringing the remnants to heel via force.
* TheArchmage: Given the history of past Mage [[PlayerCharacter PCs]], a mage inquisitor will be this. The Elven Mage was the First to their clan's Keeper before becoming the Inquisitor.
* {{Badass}}: If the history for all past [[PlayerCharacter PCs]] is an indication...
** BadassBookworm: The Human and Elven mages by default. Other race-class combinations can take Inquisition Perks to gain this status.
** BadassGay: If you choose to play them as such.
** BadassLongcoat: One of the favored options for mage and rogue inquisitors to wear.
** BadassNormal: A rogue or warrior Inquisitor is this at the beginning of the game.
*** EmpoweredBadassNormal: A rogue or warrior becomes this due to their Fade abilities; further continued if they take the [[MageKiller Templar]] or [[ThePowerOfBlood Reaver]] PrestigeClass.
** FourStarBadass: You lead the Inquisition.
* BigGood: Bioware has hinted that you'll be able to play the Inquisitor as this.
* TheDragonslayer: Unlike the previous games, which only had one (real) high dragon each, ''Inquisition'' has numerous high dragons scattered across the game as [[BonusBoss Bonus Bosses]]. The Inquisitor can, if they so choose, make it their task to hunt down and slay as many of the beasts as they can.
* DeadpanSnarker: Like in the previous game, the middle option in the dialogue wheel tends to lean towards sarcastic remarks.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Inverted. Random villagers are genuflecting to the Inquisitor as TheChosenOne of the Maker even before the title screen, and it takes a while for anyone to tell them why.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: Usually referred to as the Inquisitor, as their given name is player customizable, and thus nearly impossible to use in a fully voice acted game.
** It was revealed that some characters would occasionally refer to the Inquisitor by their surname, much like Hawke. This is dependent on the Inquisitor's race.
* FeaturelessProtagonist: Like the previous protagonists, the Inquisitor is highly customizable, so much so that they don't even have an official "default" appearance (like [[Franchise/MassEffect Commander Shepard]] did): even the cover art depicts them fully-armored with an intentionally androgynous appearance and turned with their back to the viewer.
* FrontlineGeneral: The Inquisitor has more resources than the Warden or Hawke, but will still deal with most threats personally. Discussed at the Digiexpo preview:
--> "As Inquisitor, one of our key goals is to lead from the front; to be an inspiration to the people that we protect and the people that serve with us."
* GeniusBruiser: Warriors of any race can take Inquisition Perks to gain knowledge of a wide variety of subjects.
* JudgeJuryAndExecutioner: The Inquisitor has the final say as to the fates of the Inquisition's prisoners and is often called upon to judge them.
* KickTheDog: The Inquisitor will have the option to "[[ScrewThisImOuttaHere Pull a Redcliffe]]" and abandon people to their fate at points, although the negative consequences of this course of action - large and small - will be addressed. It may also [[WhatTheHellHero hurt their standing]] with some of their companions.
* LastNameBasis: Everyone calls the Inquisitor by their surname.
* MagicKnight: A mage!Inquisitor that chooses the Knight Enchanter PrestigeClass
** By default, the warrior and even the rogue classes will fall into this because all Inquisitors will have a unique control over the fade.
* MessianicArchetype: The Inquisitor is going to have a lot of shades of this. They begin the game having physically entered the Fade (which has only ever happened once before) during the Breach, before walking out unscathed at the Temple of Andraste's Sacred Ashes, one of the holiest places in Thedas, with the ability to close the rifts. They obtain the nickname, "Herald of Andraste." The final shot of the "Inquisition" trailer is even framed in a manner [[RuleOfSymbolism evocative of the Last Supper]], with the Inquisitor at the center of a long table with twelve followers gathered around him.
* MultipleChoicePast: The main character can be an elf, a dwarf, a qunari or a human, with their background being based on race-class combination. These backgrounds aren't [[MultipleGameOpenings playable]] like in ''Origins'', however. They are as follows:
** A Human Inquisitor is the youngest child of the noble and devout Trevalyan family from the city of Ostwick in the Free Marches. Human Inquisitor backgrounds vary significantly based on the Inquisitor's class.
*** If the Inquisitor is a warrior or rogue, the Inquisitor was expected to follow the family tradition and join the Chantry or Templars (regardless of the Inquisitor's feelings toward the Chantry). The Inquisitor was sent to the peace summit to help his or her relatives ensure the summit's success.
*** If the Inquisitor is a mage, then the Inquisitor was sent to the Ostwick Circle of Magi at a young age. The Inquisitor was forced to join the mage rebellion to avoid being killed by the templars. The Inquisitor was at the peace summit as a member of the mage delegation.
** An Elven Inquisitor is a member of the Lavellan Clan of Dalish Elves. The Lavellan Clan wandered the Free Marches and had few interactions with humans. If the Inquisitor is a warrior or a rogue, then the Inquisitor was a hunter who provided for the Lavellan Clan. If the Inquisitor is a mage, then the Inquisitor was First to the Keeper. The Inquisitor was sent to the peace summit by his or her Keeper to spy on the summit.
** A Dwarven Inquisitor is a surfacer and a member of the Carta's Cadash crime family. The Inquisitor smuggled Lyrium for their family in the Free Marches. The Inquisitor was sent to the peace summit as a spy.
** A Qunari Inquisitor is a Tal-Vashoth who was born outside of the Qun[[note]]Technically, this makes the Inquisitor a Vashoth because they never followed the Qun, but that distinction is only important to the Qun's adherents[[/note]]. The Inquisitor is a member of the Adaar family. The Inquisitor was a member of the Valo-kas mercenary company. The company was hired to provide security for the peace summit.
* TheOnlyOne: What the Warden did in Ferelden, the Inquisitor now has to do for most of Thedas. They also appear to be the only one that's capable of sealing the Veil tears, due to having mysteriously survived being present at the first breach.
* PlayerCharacter
* [[PowerPalms Power Palm]]: The Inquisitor's left hand has a mark that is used to open or close the rifts to the Fade.
* PowerTattoos: Rather than helmets, Qunari Inquisitors wear warpaint that's toxic to other races.
* PrestigeClass: Unlike previous games, the Inquisitor is limited to one specialization per playthrough, but it has more impact on the plot.
* RebelLeader: The new Inquisition, and the Inquisitor by extension, are initially seen by the other factions as merely the "young upstart" using the chaos to vie for power.
* RedBaron: Believed to be the "Herald of Andraste" by many, whether encouraged or not.
* ReluctantWarrior: Has shades of this in the ''Inquisition'' trailer, due to being the only one capable of dealing with the Veil tears.
--> '''Inquisitor''': The world is tearing itself apart, but they say I can stop this.
* SeekerArchetype: No matter how the Inquisitor sets up his/her priorities, their most important task is to find whoever is responsible for making Thedas even more of a CrapsackWorld than usual. Best encapsulated in this statement:
-->''Let those who would threaten us [[HiddenVillain step into the light]].''
* SoleSurvivor: In the opening act of the game, the Inquisitor is the only one to mysteriously survive being at ground zero when the giant Veil tear opens in the sky, while thousands of people around them were reduced to char-grilled corpses.
* TheStoic: While the new "emote" wheel grants the Inquisitor a variety of emotional reactions, only the ability to be completely stoic is always available.
* StopWorshippingMe: People insist on following the Inquisitor as the Herald of Andraste, no matter how much they try to make them stop or whether they even follow the Andrastian religion.
* TouchedByVorlons: The Inquisitor gains unique powers over the Fade from being at ground zero of the Breach.
* UnexplainedRecovery: How they alone survived the initial Veil tear, which killed thousands.
* VagueAge: The Inquisitor will be an "[[http://dragonaging.tumblr.com/post/66594215825/mike-laidlaw-creative-director-of-dragon-age indeterminate]]" age between 20 and 40.
* WildCard: The Inquisitor enters the playing field of world politics with no preset allegiances whatsoever (even to the Chantry), and is free to back whoever they want in any KingmakerScenario.
* WorthyOpponent: The Inquisitor is considered this, albeit begrudgingly, by the various other factions.
* YoungestChildWins: Like Sebastian, the human inquisitor was [[SpareToTheThrone spare to the spare]] as the youngest child and was either shipped off to the Circle at a young age or expected to join the Templars as an adult, regardless of their feelings on the matter. Then the breach happened and they became the most important person in Thedas.

!!Blackwall
[[quoteright:297:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/blakwall_1262.jpg]]

->''"All a warden is, is a promise. To protect others, even at the cost of your own life."''

->'''Voiced by''': ''Alastair Parker''

Warden-Constable Blackwall is a Grey Warden who was once stationed in Val Chevin, and elects to join the Inquisition. He is a romance option for female inquisitors of any race.

Written by Sheryl Chee.
----
* BadassBeard: Was streaked with silver in concept art. He's fully aware of it.
-->'''Sera''': Do all Grey Wardens have beards?\\
'''Blackwall''': No, I just stole them all, (''dramatic voice'') and all the power within them!
* BadassGrandpa: He was a Warden-Constable, e.g. second-in-command of the Grey Wardens in Orlais, at the time of the Fifth Blight. That was more than ten years before ''Inquisition''. We don't know how old he is, but he can't be young.
* BenevolentBoss: When he was still Warden-Constable.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: Feels that the Grey Warden's role should not be restricted to fighting Darkspawn, but also protecting the innocent in all occasions.
* CulturedWarrior: As read from his speech to his recruits after the massacre of Ostagar.
* {{Determinator}}: Described as "The Resolve" of the team.
* EarlyBirdCameo: A transcript of one of his speeches during the events of ''Origins'' appears in ''The World of Thedas''.
* GoodIsNotNice: During the Blight Loghain wouldn't allow for more Warden reinforcements simply because they would come from Orlais. When Blackwall learned of this, despite being a committed Grey Warden, he was entirely willing to allow Ferelden to fall to the Blight as punishment for Loghain's stupidity.
* HeroicResolve: See the entry for Determinator.
* HeroicVow: Takes the Grey Warden vows very seriously.
* IWorkAlone: He prefers solitary work due to his high moral standards.
* JumpedAtTheCall: One of the increasingly few Grey Wardens that wasn't conscripted by force.
* KnightInShiningArmor: Brave, noble, and protective.
* TheKnightsWhoSaySquee: Towards the legendary Grey Wardens of old.
* MayDecemberRomance: Depending on how the Inquisitor's age is interpreted.
* NumberTwo: Was once the second-in-command to the Orlesian Warden-Commander.
* TheObiWan: He slips into a mentor role eventually, despite his lone wolf tendencies.
* OldSoldier: He has yet to hang up his coat.
* PrecisionFStrike: The first f-bomb in the games themselves.
-->'''Inquisitor''': The Inquisition needs all the help it can get, but what can one Grey Warden do.\\
'''Blackwall''': Save the fucking world if pressed.
* {{Protectorate}}: See the character quote.
* RomanceSidequest: For any female Inquisitor.
* SchmuckBait: His [[LimitBreak Focus Ability]], Counterstrike, draws all enemies to attack him, to which he will respond by counter attacking.
* StoneWall: As a Champion, he is potentially the most difficult companion to damage, let alone kill, and can periodically make himself invincible for a few seconds.
* TeamDad: To the point that the Inquisitor can actually ask him for tips on [[EveryoneCanSeeIt how to romance their preferred partner]] (with the possible exception of himself).
* WalkingTheEarth: When the Inquisition finds him, he's traveling alone to recruit for the order.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Cassandra]]

->''"At this moment, you are the only threat I see."''

A former member of the Seekers who joins the Inquisition in order to find a solution to chaos raging across Thedas.

''For more info, see [[Characters/DragonAge Characters - Dragon Age]].''

[[folder:The Iron Bull]]

!!The Iron Bull
[[quoteright:280:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ironbull_2825.jpg]]

-> ''"What's the most pieces you've ever cut someone into in a single swing? I'm up to three. But I have some ideas."''

->'''Voiced by''': ''Freddie Prinze Jr''

The Iron Bull is a captain of a mercenary company, and a Ben Hassrath qunari who doubts his allegiance to the Qun. Officially, he joins the Inquisition to report back to the Qunari, but unofficially he's there to protect the innocent, and of course kill demons for pay. Romanceable by Inquisitors of any gender or race.

Written by Patrick Weekes.
----
* AnythingThatMoves: He's pansexual and he will sleep with anyone interested who he's reasonably sure he won't break.
* {{Badass}}: "There are very few things in the world that he can't kill if he needs to, which puts him at ease most of the time."
* BadassBaritone: Has a pleasantly deep voice.
* BadassBack: Most shots of him are from behind.
* BadassBoast: Note the quote.
* BaldOfAwesome: Not a hair on this mighty Qunari warrior's head.
* BecomingTheMask: While he still sends reports to the Ben-Hassrath, he doesn't know if he is still a Qunari agent masquerading as a mercenary or if he is a mercenary deluding himself into believing that he's still Qunari.
* BerserkButton: Demons are the one thing that can make him lose his casual disposition.
* TheBigGuy: He quite easily outsizes the rest of the Inquisitor's teammates and is even larger than a Qunari Inquisitor. He's also referred to in promos as "The Muscle".
* BloodKnight: Really gives off this vibe. Just check out his character quote.
* BoisterousBruiser: In stark contrast to the more dour, deadpan qunari we've met before; he leads men into battle and taverns with equal enthusiasm.
* BreakTheHaughty: His life as a Ben-Hassrath had an effect on his psyche.
* CastFromHitPoints: His Dragon Rage ability.
* ChurchMilitant: As part of the Ben-Hassrath, he's technically [[OutgrownSuchSillySuperstitions the closest thing the Qunari have to a priest]].
* ConflictingLoyalty: He's torn between his allegiance to the Qun and his new life as a mercenary captain.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Before he became a mercenary, he was assigned to hunt down rebels and other dissidents in qunari territory. For unknown reasons, this eventually caused him to "break" and suffer from [[ShellShockedVeteran post-traumatic stress]], forcing his superiors to [[KickedUpstairs kick him upstairs]] and reassign him as a spy in Orlais.
* DoubleAgent: A very... open, and fairly light, example. If you allow him to send reports to the Ben-Hassrath about the Inquisition's activities, he will cheerfully give you information that their other spies send to him in turn.
* EyepatchOfPower: Wears one in the "Last Hope of Thedas" trailer.
* AFatherToHisMen: He's very close to all of his Chargers and states that he's better off leading people when he knows who they're sleeping with and what they're drinking, who in return are all fiercely devoted to him. He states that because of this, he's better off leading small companies rather than anything bigger than that.
* GoingNative: His years spent away from the Qun has led to him adjusting to the life of the locals.
* HotBlooded: When comparing the companions to food, the companions said he would be a chilli dog, because it's a delicious bad decision.
* InsultBackfire: When Varric asks him whether or not he knows Tallis since they're both Ben-Hassrath, Bull retorts if he happens to know some random grumpy dwarf he met on the road. Varric responds that as a member of the Merchant's Guild, chances are he not only knows said dwarf but that they owe him money, at which point Bull is simply forced to say that he doesn't actually know Tallis.
* EyeScream: He lost his left eye protecting a complete stranger. Said stranger is now second in command of the Bull's Chargers.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Especially noticeable when he's wearing his eyepatch.
* FastballSpecial: Wants to try this with Sera; she's less than receptive to the idea.
* GayOption: Pansexual and can be romanced by male Inquisitors.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Looks like someone's used his back as a whipping post.
* TheHedonist: Has learned to enjoy the pleasures of life after several near death experiences.
* HornedHumanoid: Has the most impressive set of horns we've seen on a qunari to date.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Or Huge Guy, Tiny Guy if the player is so inclined. Bull can be romanced by an Inquisitor of any race or sex and towers over elves and dwarves.
** Very much so with Sera, with whom he pals around.
* KickedUpstairs: He was once the best Ben-Hassrath of all, but then one day, he "broke". His commanders reacted by sending him off to Orlais to spy on the humans.
* LeeroyJenkins: As implied by the "bad decisions" comment from his writer.
* ManOfSteelWomanOfKleenex: He's very conscientious about avoiding this.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: For a qunari, a race who's known for being rather stoic, Iron Bull seems to be quite boisterous.
* OddFriendship:
** With the uptight Vivienne, who keeps him in line (not to mention the mage-Qunari issue).
** Despite hating demons, the Bull sees Cole as an odd kid who would probably be normal if he could just get some booze and sex.
** The developers have mentioned that Cassandra and he often talk shop together.
* OneHeadTaller: If he's romanced by a female Qunari or a human of either sex.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: A Qunari's true name is more similar to a pedigree or a social security number than a name as we think of one. Iron Bull's rank in the Qun is also unknown to his companions in the Inquisition and his fellow mercenaries, though the player does learn it later. Thus his current moniker, which is typically shortened to just "Bull". [[SerialEscalation So he's known by nicknames on top of nicknames]].
* OpenSecret: He's supposed to be undercover in the Inquisition, but to avoid trouble with the agents, he comes clean from the start.
* OvertOperative: Can't get much more overt in a person than a hulk of muscle topped with bull horns.
* PermaStubble: As shown in his concept art, adding to his unusually careless look for a Qunari.
* ThePowerOfBlood: He's a Reaver.
* PowerTattoo: Like a qunari Inquisitor, Bull uses toxic face-paint in lieu of helmets.
* PrivateMilitaryContractor: On paper, he's an ex-Qunari who runs a mercenary company for rich clients. In reality, he works as a mercenary to spy on said clients for the Ben-Hassrath.
* RomanceSidequest: An option for all inquisitors, provided you get along.
* ShellShockedVeteran: He suffers from PTSD, which is part of the reason he was KickedUpstairs to Orlais as a spy.
* SpellMyNameWithAThe: He insists that it's "''The'' Iron Bull".
* TakingTheBullet: Or the flail, in this case. [[EyeScream It's how he lost the eye.]] And it was for some random guy he didn't even know.
* TrueCompanions: He's very loyal to people who are on his team. As much as he hates demons, the Bull has no real problem with Cole, who may be one.
* UnstoppableRage: Bull's [[LimitBreak Focus Ability]] is Rampage, which increases his damage and attack speed while letting him drain the health from anything he hits.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Put forth a lot in promotional material. Whether this is the case in the actual game is up to the player, as companion armor is changeable.

[[folder: Dorian]]

!!Dorian
[[quoteright:200:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dorian-gallery-04_8292.jpg]]

->''"I'm here to set things right. Also? To look dashing. That part's less difficult."''

->'''Voiced by''': ''Ramon Tikaram''

Dorian is an extraordinarily talented Tevinter mage from a well-established and respected Altus-class family. He opposes everything that his homeland stands for and is on a crusade to reform the Imperium. He is a romance option for male inquisitors of any race.

Written by David Gaider.
----
* TheAce: He's good-looking, a talented mage from a society that values magic above all, and born in a prestigious family.
* AgentPeacock: He's openly gay, values aesthetics, wears eyeliner, is described as fashion conscious by the writers, and is one of the most talented mages in all the Imperium. Fitting, as his last name during development was "Pavus" (Latin for Peacock).
* {{Badass}}: One of the greatest mages from a country known for its great mages.
* BadassGay: He doesn't let the discrimination he faces in his homeland for being gay stop him from being a badass.
* BadassMustache: He's a skilled mage and he has a rather awesome 'stache.
* BadPowersGoodPeople: He's a rather idealistic and noble soul, but he has no problem with using necromancy.
* BrokenPedestal: Alexius, and his country in general.
* BulletTime: Dorian's [[LimitBreak Focus Spell]] is Haste, which substantially slows the world while the party acts normally.
* TheCharmer: His confidence comes at least partly from the high stature of his bloodline.
* DarkIsNotEvil / LightIsGood: As an extremely nice and idealistic {{Necromancer}} who dresses primarily in white, he fits both tropes.
* DefectorFromDecadence: He caught wind of something nasty the magisters were planning and promptly defected from Tevinter.
* DeadpanSnarker: His wit is described as being sharper than any blade.
* EvilMentor: He was trained by the Magister Alexius, the leader of the Venatori. He refers to Dorian as his "final failure".
* {{Gayngst}}: He's gotten over it, but as it turns out the Tevinter Imperium is [[PoliticallyIncorrectVillain quite homophobic]]. This is one of the many reasons he was cynical of the Imperium culture long before he actually decided to leave.
* GayOption: For male Inquisitors.
* ManInWhite: Highlights his status as a pariah, given that ''The World of Thedas'' describes Tevinter fashion as generally quite dark.
* MeaningfulName: The most notable aspect of the name Dorian is it's use in ''ThePictureOfDorianGray'', and Pavus is latin for peacock. There appears to be a vanity theme, which is fitting given his cocky behaviour and pride in his magic.
* MrFanservice: [[spoiler:Dorian is one of the first men in the series to have a shot of his backside on display if romanced.]]
* MyCountryTisOfTheeThatISting: Dorian had always despised the falseness of the mageocracy, but the conspiracy he discovered among the magisters was the tipping point that caused him to separate himself from Tevinter entirely.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: Stands out as the first Tevinter mage in the franchise to not participate in the Tevinter system.
* {{Necromancer}}: His specialization.
* TheParagon: Ridiculously talented and of an esteemed bloodline, he uses the admiration he is afforded to make himself an example as he rebels against the Imperium.
** TheParagonAlwaysRebels: From the Tevinter's point of view. From the perspective of ''everyone else'' though, it's more akin to a HeelFaceTurn.
* RebelPrince: He's of high rank in the Imperium, yet throws it all away for his ideals.
* RedemptionQuest: Specifically, he wants to redeem his country. Whether his redemption quest is personal too remains to be seen.
* StepfordSnarker: His wit is driven from his jaded attitude towards his country.
* StopBeingStereotypical: His opinion of his fellow Tevinter mages.
* TooCleverByHalf: He's a genius and he knows it. Sometimes this causes problems.
* VitriolicBestBuds: He and Vivienne enjoy tearing into one another, but it's all good fun to them.

->''"I have seen things in my journeys that most can only dream of. Literally."''

->'''Voiced by:''' ''Gareth David-Lloyd''

A raggedy hedge mage who is an expert on the subject of the Fade. He sees the Breach as an opportunity to finally put his unique knowledge to good use, hoping to challenge a few preconceptions along the way. He is a romance option for female elven Inquisitors.

Written by Patrick Weekes.
----
* AboveGoodAndEvil: He refuses to believe in bad and good, thinking that such oversimplifications are precisely what led to the current crisis.
* BaldOfAwesome: His Zathrian-esque dome is his most striking feature, next to his piercing eyes and ragged attire.
* BrutalHonesty: He is perfectly happy to break down a comfortable lie regardless of being seen as rude, and prefers people who are genuine and honest. He respects Cassandra for this reason, in spite of their disagreements.
* ConstantlyCurious: Ties into his intellectual nature, sometimes even offending people.
** He also likes it when '''others''' are curious. Your first real camp conversation includes at least a half-dozen questions for you to ask him, with topics ranging from the Fade and the spirits in it to his opinions of elven culture and the war. He gets a small approval raise ''each time you ask a question'', plus the potential for ''even more'' approval when he asks what you think of his answer.
* CoolOldGuy: Solas is in his forties. He and Blackwall occasionally have "kids these days" talks.
* {{Dreamwalker}}: With time, he mastered the ability to visit places in the Fade no others could. It is similar to lucid dreaming.
* {{Druid}}: Has shades of this compared to the other mage companions: he wears furs and rags, lives out in the wilderness, has a hermit-like personality and possesses a spirit friendly attitude.
* EnlightenmentSuperpowers: He learned to draw his power directly from the Fade after many years of isolation, introspection, and Fade exploration.
* {{Foil}}: His humble brown clothing contrasts with Vivienne's pearl and gold. Additionally, he's an apostate, whereas she's a pro-circle mage, and his spirit friendly attitude challenges her own views.
** Also towards Dorian, mostly for the same reasons as Vivienne: raggedy versus pristine, apostate versus circle mage, and unlike Vivienne and Dorian, he doesn't hold political power or respect from higher circles.
* GeniusLoci: Mentioned in his backstory about The Fade: Since he never grew up with the Andrastian fear of the Fade, it isn't physically as scary.
* GreyAndGrayMorality: He tends to take this stance regarding history, judging that people's tendency to see things in black and white and erase complexities is what landed them in the mess they're in.
* TheHermit: Grew up isolated from those who would cage him,and would be quite happy to spend his life sleeping alone in ruins.
* HermitGuru: Although it seems that he sought out the Inquisitor rather than the other way around.
* HumansAreBastards: He appears to hold this opinion to some extent, best exemplified by this banter with Varric.
-->'''Varric:''' You really spend most of your time in the Fade ?
-->'''Solas:''' As much as is possible. The Fade contains a wealth of knowledge for those who know where to look.
-->'''Varric:''' Sure, but I don't know how you dream, let alone wander around in there. Especially when the shit that comes out of the Fade is generally... cranky.
-->'''Solas:''' So are humans. But we continue to interact with them ...[[NotGoodWithPeople when we must]].
* IntergenerationalFriendship: He develops a bond with Cole as they discuss the nature of spirits.
** Although he in all likelihood may be the younger of the pair, considering just what Cole is.
*** [[spoiler:Or not, given how it's entirely possible he witnessed the creation of the world.]]
* InterspeciesRomance: Averted. He's only interested in other elves. [[spoiler:DoubleSubverted, in that he's not actually an elf.]]
* LonersAreFreaks: He's an introvert, his opinions concerning the Fade don't match any Thedosian civilizations, and he freaks out Andrasteans and Qunari alike.
* MeaningfulName: Solas means "pride" in Elvhen, and is also the name of a city on the border between Nevarra and Tevinter. What this means remains to be seen. His name also sounds similar to ''solace''. Guess who's been hinted to finally be able to give Cole some answers about who and what he is, easing the poor boy's mind at last?
* MrImagination: He likes to spend his free time in the literal land of dreams.
* NiceGuy: Said to be one of the more respectful and thoughtful members of the team, along with Cassandra and Cole. Also, he offered his expertise regarding the Breach even though he knew he may be locked away as an apostate. [[spoiler:Or maybe AffablyEvil, given the misery he's said to have put elves through.]]
* NightmareFetishist: By most people's standards, his love for everything Fade related is somewhat creepy. Especially for Vivienne and the Iron Bull.
* PlayingWithFire: His [[LimitBreak Focus Spell]] is the incredibly powerful Firestorm.
* TheProfessor: He's an expert on the Fade.
* PsychicPowers: His unmatched mastery of the Fade allows him to catch and interpret glimpses of past events.
* RealityWarper: He has come to develop powers to control the Fade's effects on reality.
* [[spoiler: Really700YearsOld]]: TheStinger of the game after the credits reveals him to be [[spoiler: Fen'Harel, The Dread Wolf]]
* RomanceSidequest: For a female Elven Inquisitor only.
* SeriouslyScruffy: Life as an elven apostate is full of hardships, and it shows.
* TheSmartGuy: He's an entirely self taught expert on the Fade, and takes a more nuanced approach than most in his everyday life.
* TaughtByExperience: Solas never received a formal education in magic.
* TricksterArchetype: [[spoiler:He's really Fen'Harel, the Dread Wolf who tricked the Fade and mortal worlds apart in elvish mythology. He's also simultaneously responsible for Corypheus gaining the knowledge he needed to merge the fade, and the Inquisitor's Anchor. What his deal is (for one, he's supposedly an elf hater but his personality suggests he actually likes elves better than humans) remains to be seen.]]
* WrongContextMagic: Solas' abilities to command the Fade and view the history of places is completely new and foreign to Thedosian mages, not to mention Thedosian society in general. [[spoiler:This is a hint to [[GodInHumanForm his actual nature]].]]

[[folder:Vivienne]]

!!Vivienne
[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vivienne_2630.jpg]]

->''"Rest assured, dear Seeker - I am never truly out of my element."''

->'''Voiced by''': ''Indira Varma''

A Free Marches born and Orlesian raised mage who was the official enchanter to the Imperial court and First Enchanter of the Montsimmard Circle before the entire Circle of Magi went rogue. A staunch supporter of the Circle system, she joins the Inquisition to support her fellow mages in any way she can. Vivienne was the first new ''DA:I'' character whose name has been revealed.

Written by Mary Kirby.
----
* ActionGirl: As Irving and Orsino demonstrated, you don't become First Enchanter without knowing how to kick ass.
* ActionFashionista: As described on her character kit, "A thousand arrows would pierce her breast before Vivienne would don beaten steel for so base an urge as protection."
* AnIcePerson: Vivienne tends to default to ice spells.
* TheArchmage: Tends to be one of the job requirements to become a First Enchanter.
* AuthorityInNameOnly: She's the First Enchanter of the Montsimmard Circle of Magi, but since Vivienne didn't follow her Circle into the rebellion, that title doesn't mean much beyond being an indicator of her skill as a mage.
* BadassBoast: Two of three lines in her first appearance were this, the above character quote being one of them, and the other:
-->'''[[TheStrategist Cassandra]]''': Varric, expect a standard formation of ranged enemies on the walls and expendables gathering there.\\
'''Vivienne''': My dear, we'll render them all expendable.
* BaldWomen: her hatless state at Skyhold shows that she has a shaved head.
* BarrierWarrior: As a Knight Enchanter, Vivienne can enhance her Barrier spell far beyond the party's other mages.
* CombatMedic: Vivienne's [[LimitBreak Focus Spell]] is Resurgence, the only true healing spell that can be cast in combat.
* CourtMage: Her actual pre-war position was official Enchanter to the Imperial Court.
** TheJester: What she essentially amounted to. Since mages can't actually hold political power, her actual job was to do magic tricks for the court. However, she managed to turn this role into that of a political adviser.
* DeadpanSnarker: Vivienne is very skilled at verbally destroying people who get in her way:
-->"I know you are only seventy-third in line for the Nevarran throne, but that is hardly so lowly a position as to relegate you to trailing after Comtesse Montbelliard in the hope that she might give your suit a moment’s thought. She won’t, my dear. She only likes men with self-respect. Perhaps you might sober up and acquire some?"
* FacialMarkings: In various images, Vivienne has has various patterns in white makeup painted on her face; in others, she has had no noticeable makeup on. Whether this has any significance or if it's just because she's Orlesian is not yet known.
* {{Foil}}: The silver clad pro-establishment counterpoint to the raggedy apostate Solas.
* TheGoodChancellor: An adviser to Empress Celene and dedicated to bringing order back to Thedas [[RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething hands on]].
* GirlyBruiser: Vivienne isn't strong in spite of her femininity, she's strong ''because'' of it, attire being a mandatory status symbol in Orlais. In terms of physical bruising, she could burn you to a crisp.
* GuileHero: This was wired into her as an Orlesian, allowing her to raise so high in station as to be considered the [[WorldsMostBeautifulWoman jewel of the high court]] in spite of her being a mage in such a DeadlyDecadentCourt.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Vivienne accuses the rebel mages of lacking perspective on how the rest of Thedas views them due to being "safe in their towers". While she raises several valid points, her own easy time in the Circle has given Vivienne a distorted perspective of how bad it could be and why so many mages gave up on changing things peacefully.
* IceQueen: Described with this exact phrase by the devs.
* IronLady: Invoked by her in-universe moniker "Madame de Fer".
** A letter released by Mary Kirby has her demonstrate this, addressing an ambassador that she's heard is planning to gate-crash a party she would be hosting, politely reminding him of her position, before proceeding to verbally tear him apart and suggest that if he knows what is best for him, [[BewareTheNiceOnes he'd do well]] [[YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry not cross her]].
* TheJester: When she started out as the enchanter to the Imperial Court, her role was basically to perform parlor tricks, until by sheer force of character people began to take her seriously.
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: She dresses to make an impression everywhere she goes.
* LoveIsAWeakness: As someone who has apparently struggled to get where she is, she believes sentiment is a liability and a privilege for those with less responsibility than herself.
* MagicKnight: Vivienne is a Knight Enchanter.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: Vivienne is largely unsympathetic towards the plight of the mages because she feels they are the ones responsible for instigating the war. Being Pro-Circle, Vivienne also argues that complete mage independence is a selfish idea.
* MysticalHighCollar: And how! This probably has to do with her being an Orlesian, too.
* NiceHat: She wears a large and very ornate hat. Not surprising given the love that mages and Orlesians have for this trope.
* NoTrueScotsman: Vivienne claims that she and her followers are the only mages still loyal to Thedas, with no consideration to how responsibly or altruistically rebels and apostates may use their magic.
* OddFriendship: With the hedonistic Iron Bull, whom she keeps in line.
* OnlyOneName: According to Mary Kirby, she has no last name that she'll admit to. The Imperial Court calls her: "[[IronLady Madame de Fer]]."
* PetTheDog: [[spoiler: When the Breach opens, she protects a courtier who calls her abilities "parlor tricks" from the windows imploding into the palace.]]
* PragmaticHero: Places survival above sentiment.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Not technically nobility since mages cannot inherit titles or estates from their parents, but she is so high placed in the Imperial Court that the point stands.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Just as adept at defeating her opponents this way as she is with magic.
* TheRemnant: As a pro-Chantry and Circle Mage, her entire world has been turned upside down with the outbreak of the Mage-Templar War. The Circle has been dissolved, the Templars have gone rogue and the Chantry has been left in complete disarray.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: As noted above, Andrastian mages can't legally possess any form of political power, but she overcame those restrictions through sheer force of character, becoming an adviser to the empress of the most powerful nation in Thedas.
* SilkHidingSteel: Or iron, as it was.
* TermsOfEndangerment: She's known to say "dear" and "darling" a lot, but when she's faced with an enemy, it takes shades of this trope.
* TokenEvilTeammate: She's being teased as this; her defining trait is her [[AmbitionIsEvil ambition]], her motivations thus far are the most selfish out of the known companions, and one trailer hints at her having a hidden, potentially sinister agenda. Whether or not this will be played straight remains to be seen.
* TheUnfettered: She allows nothing to stand in the way of what she desires.
* VerbalTic: Her dialogue during the PAX demo has her pepper her speech with "Dear" several times.
* VitriolicBestBuds: She and Dorian enjoy tearing into one another, but it's all good fun to them.

[[folder:Cole]]

!!Cole
[[quoteright:260:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cole-profile-260x260_7301.jpg]]

->''"It doesn't matter that they won't remember me. What matters is I helped."''

->'''Voiced by:''' ''James Norton''

A spirit who somehow became a ghost of sorts of a young mage who was killed by Templar abuse. First appeared in the tie in novel ''Literature/{{Asunder}}'', and returns in ''Inquisition''.

Written by David Gaider in ''Literature/{{Asunder}}'' and by Patrick Weekes in ''Inquisition''.
-----
* AddedAlliterativeAppeal: He is fond of this: he refers to red templars as "dead and dark and done", and says that [[spoiler:Envy]] "forced their fury, their fight."
* AntiHero: He's very sympathetic, but he still was a serial killer.
* {{Asexuality}}: Doesn't seem to understand the real reason why Evangeline would be perturbed by the thought that he saw her changing. It doesn't even occur to him that others would object to him watching until that conversation. When she kisses him on the forehead later, he stumbles back very confused.
* AscendedExtra: From a character in ''Asunder'' to a companion.
* CanonImmigrant: He was originally a character from the book ''Asunder''.
* CharacterDevelopment: Since ''Asunder'', Cole has learned to be brave and now seeks to use his powers to help others.
* CloudCuckoolander: Cole does his best to help people. Sometimes this means doing things like chucking turnips into a fire, or lining battlements with loaves of bread for some reason.
* DeadPersonImpersonation: The original Cole was starved to death by the Templars in one of the cells in the Spire's Pit. This Cole is a spirit or demon that decided not to let Cole die alone and assumed Cole's identity after he died, eventually forgetting its true nature.
* {{Determinator}}:
** In ''Asunder'', he followed the party through half of Orlais to keep Rhys safe after he becomes convinced Evangeline might be a threat. This, despite having no memory of life outside the White Spire and being absolutely terrified of most of his surroundings.
** In the fight with [[spoiler:Lambert]] at the end of the novel. Even after an absolutely ''vicious'' NoHoldsBarredBeatdown, he wouldn't back down.
* DualWielding: Gameplay footage depicts him as a close-range fighter.
* GhostAmnesia: Though he may or may not be a ghost, he has no clear memory of his previous life.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: He may be creepy, but Cole joins the Inquisition simply to make people safe. His hair, when you can see it under his NiceHat, is a pale blond.
* HumanoidAbomination: Subverted. Cole's pretty eerie, and certainly ''not'' truly a mortal being, but he's kind, humble, and only wants to help.
* TheEmpath: While in the Tower, Cole choose his victims because he could subconsciously feel their suffering. Now that he's aware of this ability, he deliberately seeks out people who need help and does his best to do so without trying to kill them this time.
* KnifeNut: He uses a knife throughout ''Asunder'' and was once a serial killer. He's also a Rogue in ''Inquisition''.
* MadOracle: He has shades of this: he speaks very cryptically, has trouble understanding concepts most find self-evident (like how people refer to the Inquisition "like it's a person"), and has no real idea of what he is metaphysically [[spoiler:although the Litany of Adralla can affect him, making it clear that he's some kind of Fade entity, whether spirit, demon, or something else.]] He also has empathic and/or telepathic abilities and can [[spoiler:project himself into another person's mind, which helps the Inquisitor self-exorcize Envy.]]
* ManChild: He has a child-like mind, which excludes him from being a romance option.
* MercyKill: His victims are all people who were in such misery that death would be a relief. Eventually subverted when he stops killing people because he realizes that doing so only brings Rhys trouble and makes him unhappy. He still prefers mercy killings to letting people rot in prison, as the original Cole died from his jailers' neglect.
* MessyHair: Bordering on BlindingBangs. Cole doesn't really seem to care about his appearance much, even when he's not hiding from Templars in their own stronghold.
* NeverLearnedToRead: Implied.
* NiceGuy: He's always willing to help and doesn't care if he's remembered for his actions.
* NiceHat: He wears a large hat in ''Inquisition''. He will always be wearing this hat regardless of whether he has other headgear equipped.
* NoSocialSkills: Living most of your life unable to interact with anyone will do that. [[spoiler:Or being a very confused spirit.]]
* OptionalPartyMember: The Inquisitor can refuse to let Cole join the Inquisition because there's a good chance that he's the very type of being the organization is trying to fight.
* PsychicNosebleed: After overusing his powers near the end of ''Asunder''.
* SelfMadeOrphan: [[spoiler:The real Cole's father killed his mother after learning that Cole was a mage. Cole accidentally asphyxiated his sister while trying to quiet her when they were hiding from their father. Cole eventually managed to kill his father with the knife that... whatever ''this'' being that believes itself to be Cole uses throughout ''Asunder''.]]
* SerialKiller: He once stalked the dungeons of the White Spire Circle, [[MercyKill mercy killing]] the mages who were imprisoned there.
* SeriouslyScruffy: He seems to dress himself in whatever rags he finds lying around. Could be out of necessity, since he can't really go and buy clothes somewhere. Or it could be that he doesn't care enough to tidy himself up.
* SympatheticMurderer: He only killed because it was the only way he knew to sustain himself. He even asked for the victim's permission.
* TomatoInTheMirror: [[spoiler:Lambert manages to banish him with the Litany of Adralla, forcing Cole to accept that he is indeed a demon. Or a spirit. [[AmbiguousSituation Honesty, we're not sure at this point.]]]]
* TookALevelInBadass: He eventually discovers how to use his invisibility to give him a huge advantage in combat.
* UndyingLoyalty: He would go to the ends of the earth to save his only friend, Rhys. In ''Inquisition'', he extends this to anyone who uses their power to help people.
* {{Unperson}}: Happened to him sometime in the past. With the exception of Rhys, the people that see him forget him shortly after. [[spoiler:It eventually turns out that the Templars erased all evidence of the original Cole to cover up the mistake they made by accidentally killing him.]]
* WasOnceAMan: Sort of. Maybe.
* WeHelpTheHelpless: He joins the Inquisition because he wants to help those in need in whatever way can, without caring if anyone will even remember him for it.

[[quoteright:253:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/seraaa_5560.jpg]]

->''"Bad things should happen to bad people. We find someone not so bad, maybe he'll end up not so dead."''

->'''Voiced by:''' ''Robyn Addison''

Sera is an elven rogue archer, and previously a member of the Friends of Red Jenny. She is impatient, brash, and has little sympathy for powerful leaders. However, she sees potential in the Inquisition and joins representing the interests of the common folk. She is a romance option for female inquisitors of any race.

Written by Luke Kristjanson.
----
* AnnoyingLaugh: Of the snorting variety.
* ArcherArchetype: Certainly has the cockiness down.
* BadassGay: One must have a certain level of badass-ness to join the Inquisition, after all.
* BoisterousBruiser: She's more of a fighter than a thinker.
* BoyishShortHair: Unfortunately for those who'd gotten used to her long hair in the concept art. She still has her short bangs though.
* BrattyHalfPint: Not quite as young as your average example, but her youth and mouthiness qualify her as such.
* BritishAccents: Has Robyn Addison's natural Derbyshire accent.
* BrutalHonesty: Never afraid to speak her mind.
* ButchLesbian: Well, as butch as [[{{Elfeminate}} an elf can get]], anyway.
* CheshireCatGrin: Her battle icon has a very large one.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Not quite as bad as Merrill, but she definitely doesn't have a filter; what's in her brain is quickly in the air. She also doesn't seem to grasp that other people don't always understand her own personal vocabulary.
* CowardlyLion: She's very inclined to expressing her fears out loud, especially regarding demonic forces, but she'll fight all the same.
* DarkSkinnedBlond: In her very first concept art, but changed later on in the character process.
* {{Delinquents}}: A young woman described as a "troublemaker" who spends her time on the streets.
* FanOfUnderdog: Said to draw her strength from the common, rather than the already powerful.
* FingerlessGloves: Inverted. Her [[http://blog.bioware.com/2014/06/27/sera-character-kit/ character kit]] shows that she wears an archery glove on her right hand.
* FlashStep: Her [[LimitBreak Focus Ability]], Thousand Cuts.
* FriendlySniper: Especially as she values friends over political power.
* GayOption: For the female Inquisitor.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Sympathizes with the common folk perhaps more than any of her teammates.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: As implied by the concept art and the food she's compared to being tequila and Skittles. Her home base at Skyhold is also the bar.
* HotBlooded: She lives in the moment.
* HumbleHero: In actions more than attitude.
* ItIsDehumanizing: Sera refers to Cole as an "it" and refuses to talk to him.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Due to her sharp tongue, she can be mean spirited despite having her heart in the right place.
* TheLadette: Judging by how she scandalizes Cassandra while getting wild laughs from the guys, she's a raunchy girl.
* LeeroyJenkins: Has no patience for fuss or deliberation, as indicated by her "bad decision hair" which she cut with a blunt knife when it got in her eyes.
* LoveableRogue: Sera loves to have fun and tends to commit crimes against people who deserve it.
* MeaningfulName: Sera means "evening" in Italian, but more interestingly, it's also a diminutive of Seraphina. Seraphina is derived from "Seraphim", the highest order of angels, who in the Greek translation of the Hebrew bible were called dragons.
* MotorMouth: Although less because she talks quickly and more because people who speak with her are too busy trying to [[{{Cloucuckoolander}} understand what she just said]] to actually respond to her. So she talks some more.
* MouthyKid: Always speaks her mind, and usually does so with the interests of the downtrodden in mind.
* NeighborhoodFriendlyGangsters: While Sera may be a thief, she's a far cry from outright evil. She is or was a member of the Friends of Red Jenny gang, which hired Hawke to remove some rather nasty gangs from Kirkwall's streets.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: She's of the opinion that if a guy doesn't want to get shivved, that guy should probably act nice. She's willing to settle for [[PokeThePoodle lesser punishments]] for lesser evils. Like a pie to the face.
* PluckyComicRelief: Said by several writers to be hilarious and the most overtly humorous character, which given the previous games' banter must be something indeed.
* ThePrankster: Stealing the enemy's trousers is more important to her than stealing their weapons. She even expresses that if a Red Jenny connection was after the Inquisitor, she'd settle for [[PokeThePoodle a pie to the face]] because the Inquisitor isn't hateful enough to outright kill.
* RomanceSidequest: For female Inquisitors only.
* SatisfiedStreetRat: She rather enjoys being at the center of a network of thieves.
* SmallStepsHero: Detests causing people harm for an abstract "greater good".
* TaughtByExperience: Sera's archery skills were learned entirely from trial and error.
* TheSpymaster: She has her own network of spies independent of the Inquisition.
* TheTrickster: Wants to bring back order not just to protect the innocent, but also to get her playground back.
* WildCard: Described as such in promos.

The eldest daughter of a noble Antivan family, and the previous Antivan ambassador in Orlais, Josephine Montilyet is a consummate planner who was called by her old friend Leliana to be the ambassador of the Inquisition. She advises the Inquisitor in all matters political and economic. She is a romance option for Inquisitors of any race or gender.

Written by Sylvia Feketekuty.
----
* ActualPacifist: She hesitates to use violence even to overthrow an assassination attempt on herself.
* BadassBureaucrat: Only the best for the Inquisition.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: While usually sweet and optimistic, she won't be pushed around.
* BiTheWay: Can be romanced by male and female Inquisitors of any race.
* CleopatraNose: Josephine's nose is tall and curved, and the trope fits all the better for a beguiling and cunning noblewoman.
* CultureEqualsCostume: She is very much a traditionalist, and wears only Antivan fashion.
* TheFace: She's the one who represents the Inquisition in high circles, and always prefers negotiation to conflict.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Josie's younger sister Yvette is far more frivolous in both demeanor and interests than her elder.
* GoGetterGirl: She is ridiculously hardworking, and left her post as ambassador of Antiva simply because the Inquisition promised a greater challenge.
* GuileHero: The very talent that pushed Leliana to call her to the Inquisition.

* [[NonActionGuy Non Action Girl]]: Stands out as the only member of the Inquisitor's inner circle to not be trained in combat.
* ProperLady: She fits the strict Antivan ideal of womanhood in most regards, most notably in that she's not trained for combat.
* TheReliableOne: Among the Inquisitor's followers, she's the least likely to make a mess of things behind their back and leave them to clean it up.
* RomanceSidequest: Optional for all Inquisitors.
* SilkHidingSteel: It takes a lot to get the gloves off.
* TheSocialExpert: Facing the crowds is her speciality.
* SpoiledSweet: A rich heiress raised to maintain poise and grace in all circumstances and who rushed to help Leliana when she asked.
* TrueBlueFemininity: Her iconic ruffled blue dress visually demonstrates her rather conventional form of femininity.
** Appropriately, Varric's nickname for her is "Ruffles".
* WideEyedIdealist: Her voice actress describes her this way, and Cullen certainly views her as such in her refusal to employ violence in most circumstances.

* JerkassHasAPoint: While being a complete dick, most of his objections regarding the Inquisitor and the Rift, at least early on, makes a certain amount of sense.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Cassandra insists that he isn't a ''bad'' person, per se, just justifiably terrified and woefully out of his depth due to everyone higher-ranking than him in the ''entire Chantry'' ending up dead.
* NonActionGuy: When compared to Seekers Cassandra and Leliana
* ObstructiveBureaucrat: His hat. When confronted with the fact that the Inquisitor saved many people, he wants the Inquistor executed.
* SinisterMinister: He can't actually serve as a priest, since the Andrastian faith only ordains women. But he serves the Chantry, and is a total ass.

A mysterious being whom the Venatori serve. [[spoiler:His true identity is Corypheus, the ancient magister-turned-primal-darkspawn from ''Legacy''. ----
* AGodAmI: In the "Enemy of Thedas" trailer, he boasts that he's the new God of Thedas. His Venatori followers appear to worship him as one.
* AmbitionIsEvil: Sylvia Feketekuty describes him as ambitious.
* TheBadGuyWins: Only in the worst ending, thankfully. [[spoiler:[[EarnYourBadEnding Should you alienate everyone and avoid doing any sidequests]], Corypheus will successfully merge the Fade and Thedas, permanently corrupting the former into [[{{Hell}} his personal paradise]] and killing most-to-all life in the latter. * EvilBrit: His British accent only serves to make him even more intimidating. [[spoiler:Much like most Teveinter.]]
* EvilLaugh: The "Enemy of Thedas" trailer ends with him uttering a rather terrifying sounding chuckle.
* EvilSorcerer: Seems to be an expert at bending the Fade to his will. [[spoiler:A continuation of his old life, no doubt.]]

* FaithHeelTurn: [[spoiler:Justified. He was never a good guy, so losing his faith in the Old Gods just shunted him over to another form of evil.

----

!THE INQUISITION

* ActionGirl: If female.
Characters/DragonAgeInquisitionLeaders
* AgentPeacock: A male Inquisitor who wears makeup is just as awesome as one who doesn't.
Characters/DragonAgeInquisitionCompanions
* AllLovingHero / DarkMessiah: The developers have said that the Inquisitor will be able to bring the other factions under their banner, either through diplomacy, alliances and mutual respect, or simply by crushing them underfoot and bringing the remnants to heel via force.
Characters/DragonAgeInquisitionAgents
* TheArchmage: Given the history of past Mage [[PlayerCharacter PCs]], a mage inquisitor will be this. The Elven Mage was the First to their clan's Keeper before becoming the Inquisitor.
Characters/DragonAgeInquisitionMultiplayer

!OTHER CHARACTERS

Characters/DragonAgeInquisitionAntagonists
* PlayerCharacter

->''"All a warden is, is a promise. To protect others, even at the cost of your own life."''

->'''Voiced by''': ''Alastair Parker''

-> ''"What's the most pieces you've ever cut someone into in a single swing? I'm up to three. But I have some ideas."''

->'''Voiced by''': ''Freddie Prinze Jr''

* BadassBoast: Note the quote.
* OddFriendship:
* ThePowerOfBlood: He's a Reaver.

->''"I'm here to set things right. Also? To look dashing. That part's less difficult."''

->'''Voiced by''': ''Ramon Tikaram''

* GayOption: For male Inquisitors.
* {{Necromancer}}: His specialization.

->'''Voiced by:''' ''Gareth David-Lloyd''

->'''Voiced by''': ''Indira Varma''

->''"It doesn't matter that they won't remember me. What matters is I helped."''

->'''Voiced by:''' ''James Norton''

* {{Determinator}}:
* NeverLearnedToRead: Implied.
* WasOnceAMan: Sort of. Maybe.
* WeHelpTheHelpless: He joins the Inquisition because he wants to help those in need in whatever way can, without caring if anyone will even remember him for it.

->'''Voiced by:''' ''Robyn Addison''

[[quoteright:260:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/josephine-thumb-260x260_7154.jpg]]

->'''Voiced by:''' ''Allegra Clark''

* TheHeart: Josephine seeks to avoid violence, is a negotiator by trade, and has a sweet disposition.
* HypercompetentSidekick: She will keep everything in order, whether you want her to or not.
* InkSuitActor: Her appearance looks very much like her voice actress's.
* MissionControl: Along with Leliana and Cullen, she provides the multiplayer teams with the information that they need to complete their missions.
* NiceGirl: Optimistic, sweet, and balanced at all times, ready to make compromizes where others would push for an all out war.

* AscendedExtra: Appeared for only one secondary quest in Origins, and is now part of the Inquisition.
* AscendedFangirl: She potentially became the first dwarf in centuries to live in a Circle.
* GadgeteerGenius: As indicated by her title of Artificer.

* HateSink: He's designed to showcase the bad parts of the Chantry.
* {{Jerkass}}: Absolutely.

----
* AGodAmI: In the "Enemy of Thedas" trailer, he boasts that he's the new God of Thedas.
* DevilButNoGod: The Elder One claims there's no BigGood spirit like the Maker, leaving nothing to save Thedas from him and his legions of demons. [[spoiler:Deconstructed, in that he was ''heartbroken'' by the realization that is former god in Dumat actually died, and he saw no hint of the Maker in the Black City.
* EvilSoundsDeep: He speaks with a deep British accent.
* FaithHeelTurn: [[spoiler:Justified. He was never a good guy, so losing his faith in the Old Gods just shunted him over to another form of evil.
