* EarnYourHappyEnding: After Lake starts thinking for herself regardless of her parent's decisions, she stays with Rosa María in Mexico after they no longer wanted her around. While she's aware of how harsh that decision is, Lake is fine with that as it means she gets a more liberating life that she never had for most of her childhood. * TrainingFromHell: Since Lake was born, her parents controlled every aspect of her life in order to ensure she'll be successful to unhealthy degrees. From having to do homework all the time to eating little/nothing among all other things, you can imagine how much more this impacted Lake before the show.
* TraumaCongaLine: At the start of Season 2, Lake is introduced with concerning methods placed on her by her parents (eating very little/nothing at all, being engaged to a guy she doesn't know after college, doing homework all the time). [[spoiler: This later extends in the challenges where in the "Kiss-a-Thon", she didn't want to participate at first out of fear of what her parents might say and during "Truth Hurts", her secrets of being PrematurelyBald from stress and malnutrition, along with hitting pillows with pictures of her parents when she's home alone were revealed on international television where [[FridgeHorror her parents are most likely watching.]] In "You Are A Monster", Kristal orders Lake to remove her wig [[RageBreakingPoint which causes the latter to get upset and snap at Kristal for her BS.]] Just as it seemed like Lake was finally relaxing, the next episode has her father demand Lake to return home because of everything she did on the show. **James forms one with Rosa in the Season 2 finale when she becomes his helper for the first part. Both relating to each other in having DarkAndTroubledPasts and after he wins the money, he decided to give 200K of the money to her to help her and her daughter.

* OhCrap: After now thinking for herself in the previous episode, Lake feels defeated when she realises how much trouble she's going to be in now that her father is making her quit the show and return home.

* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech:
**She delivers one to Kristal when presented with yet another SadisticChoice during the Queen Challenge, which triggered the hostess to end the challenge.
**After Kristal refused to send Lake back to her parents after their [[OddFriendship heart-to-heart conversation]], Lake lets her parents know she'll be making her own decisions now regardless of what they think.

* StepfordSmiler: At the start of Season 2, Lake is introduced with a background that others can tell is concerning and while she does deny it, [[spoiler: it's heavily implied from her hitting pillows with their faces on and admitting to feeling scared every time she sees her father in person that she knows how horrible the pressure is, but feels like she can't get out.]] Thanks to her CharacterDevelopment later in the series, [[TookALevelInCheerfulness Lake smiles for real.]]

They're both stoic women who are starting to patch up their lives after a dark period, but while Tess is TheHeart and willing to hear her teammates out, while also being unwilling to hurt or betray everyone, Ellie's TheUnfettered who only really trusts Gabby [[spoiler:with even that trust having its limits, since she doesn't tell her about the Villain's Alliance]] and is willing to throw everyone down the bus in order to advance in the game. Tess soon becomes the TeamMom of the Cyan Team, doing everything in her power to try and help everyone with their problems, while Ellie doesn't even bother trying to get close to her teammates or fix their problems because she's used to being hated. [[spoiler:When Ellie got Lake eliminated, it was strictly because she wasn't happy that she wasn't willing to listen to her in the Girls Alliance and saw her as a liability, while when Tess got Ellie eliminated, she did so because she thought that the staying in the game wasn't healthy for her, and that being eliminated would allow her to rest.]]
** Come episodes 8 and 9, she also becomes a foil to Gabby. Both of them are women with a connection to Ellie who don't tend to do well under pressure. Gabby is Ellie's girlfriend

* InnocentlyInsensitive: While having a small conversation with the rest of the Cyan Team during breakfast in "Strike A Chord", Tess congratulates Tom over being able to work doing what he loves... Within earshot of Ellie, who not only isn't working her actual dream, fashion designing, but is stuck in the same miserable situation she found herself in Season 1.

** [[spoiler:The episode after Ellie is eliminated, Tess tries to do what she's done with the other members of the Cyan Team and tries to comfort her and give her advice. The problem comes from the fact that Tess herself was the swing vote that caused Ellie to be eliminated causes Gabby to be not-so-appreciative of Tess' attempt to console her, even pointing out Tess' role in Ellie's elimination in the process.]]

Added DiffLines:

* TheArtifact: Tess was labeled "The Asocial" back in Season 2 because she hardly interacted with anybody and preferred to keep to herself, with her only notable interactions being with Hunter and Ally. She, like everyone else who came back, retains the label despite arguably being one of the more social players this time around, especially among the Cyan Team.

Added DiffLines:

* CreateYourOwnVillain: [[spoiler:While among the more sympathetic between the trio of her, Aiden, and Tom, Tess still chose to get Ellie voted out during the Cyan Team's second elimination ceremony, which lead Gabby to not only lose all trust on the rest of the team, herself included, but to join the Villain Alliance.]]

Added DiffLines:

* {{Irony}}: Tess herself was the one to claim that Ellie and Tom's brief friendly interaction during breakfast is just the calm before the storm, and [[spoiler:she eventually ends up bringing the storm herself when she gets Ellie voted out during Cyan Team's second elimination ceremony, which causes Gabby to swear revenge and join the Villain Alliance.]]

Added DiffLines:

* RegretfulTraitor: [[spoiler:She ends up betraying Ellie and Gabby's trust by getting the former voted out due to siding with Aiden and Tom, but the next episode makes it clear that she heavily regrets the decision and feels like she had to do it in order to stop Ellie from spiraling further.]]

Added DiffLines:

* StupidNeutral: [[spoiler:During the Cyan Team's first elimination ceremony, Tess tries to play a neutral party and make a swing vote, as she doesn't think she can handle being potentially responsible for getting Lake out if she loses a tiebreaker against Ellie. Not only does this lead to both Ellie losing all trust in her and Lake being eliminated anyway, but it traps Tess in a situation where she has no choice ''but'' to pick between siding with Gabby and Ellie or Tom and Aiden.]]
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Her brand new role as a TeamMom among the Cyan Team, her focus on helping her teammates with her problems, and generally being a more emotional player during the ''All-Stars'' season are very similar to Season 2's Rosa Maria.

* ItsPersonal: While it takes a while to show up, [[spoiler:Ellie getting Lake voted]] caused Aiden to become quite invested in getting back at Ellie for what she did, with [[spoiler:the Villain Alliance]] only further giving him reason to try get her out. [[spoiler:He eventually gets his wish during Cyan Team's second elimination ceremony, where Tess votes with him and Tom to get Ellie voted out.]]

* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Aiden's speech during the [[spoiler:Cyan-Yellow Team dual elimination ceremony]] is what gives [[spoiler:the Villain Alliance the chance to sway Gabby to their side by arguing that Ellie's elimination was not unanimous, and that the rest of the Cyan Team will betray Gabby eventually if she sticks with them.]]

* AllForNothing: [[spoiler:Tess swings her vote during Cyan Team's first elimination ceremony on Tom, choosing not to pick a side just in case Lake would lose a tiebreaker against Ellie... Which leads Lake to be eliminated anyway 3-2.]]

* LaserGuidedKarma: She had a wholesome reason to do it and at least felt sorry about it unlike Aiden and Tom, but Tess still [[spoiler:got Ellie voted out in what was likely one of if not her last chance to gain enough money to turn her life around, all while Gabby could only watch. The very next episode sees her being eliminated by Gabby after she joins the Villain Alliance during the Yellow-Cyan Team dual elimination ceremony.]]

* MortonsFork: Tess gets placed in quite the predicament during episode [[spoiler:3]] of ''All-Stars'': [[spoiler:The Cyan Team ends up losing the challenge, so they have to vote one person out. The boys are targeted, with Lake suggesting Tom while Ellie suggests Aiden. Then, Ellie puts everyone in a rock and hard place by revealing the girls alliance and Lake's intention to vote out them, meaning at this point Tess either follows along with Ellie's plan and votes for Lake, or betrays Ellie and votes for her... * CardCarryingVillain: {{Implied|Trope}}. Along with being one of the evilest and most malicious characters in the series, Yul refers to his alliance with other antagonists as their Villain's Alliance in ''All-Stars''. While Miriam (who was against them) gave their alliance that name, he still didn't seem to mind the title and seemed gleeful when referring to it as such.

* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: Zig-zagged. He also seems ageist as he condescendingly calls Miriam (who's old) "granny", proudly says she reminds him of an old lady he pushed down an escalator, and later refers to her an "old hag".
