* {{Foreshadowing}}: Despite being an alleged motivational speaker, David's speech is full of [[CondescendingCompassion condescension]] and [[HolierThanThou moral superiority]], which hints at his inner hatred for how vain humans are that is revealed later on in Chapter 2's trial.

* SchoolUniformsAreTheNewBlack: Justified. Teruko's bad luck prevents her from getting new clothes, so she's had to wear the same school uniform even outside of school, and she wears that same school uniform during the killing game... while not learning anything, despite being in an academy. Even her upgraded uniform is technically a formal school uniform, only with a style improvement, and as a replacement of the one she consistently wore since high school.

* ForWantOfANail: Because Min decided to procrastinate and transport cleaning supplies from the laundry to the kitchen to clean up a mess that Teruko made from dropping a cake at the same time as when [[FieryRedhead Xander]] made an attempt at [[BornUnlucky Teruko]] she ended up becoming Xander's murderer.

* IWorkAlone: Due to her trust issues, she [[SubvertedTrope attempts]] to do this during the 2nd Investigation but factors prevent her from doing so such as people bringing evidence, being more qualified to verify it or time constraints
* JerkAss:

* JerkAss: While seemingly a nice person at first, she slowly becomes this trope right after Xander betrays and tries to kill her. During the trial, she acts increasingly cold-hearted, blunt, and insensitive to the entire cast due to her blaming them for her predicament, whether it be Min framing her while pretending to be Teruko's friend, or most of the characters willing to blame Teruko for what happened and blame the crime on her.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: [[HiddenHeartOfGold She makes a point of keeping it extremely hidden]], but her internal narration makes it clear that Teruko isn't truly a bad person, just someone who doesn't want to be hurt again. She is cruel to Min because she wants the girl to hate her instead of continuing to apologize, she doesn't want to be friends with Eden because she doesn't want to get attached to someone as nice as her in a scenario with a high chance of her betraying the group or being killed, she also calls out Arei and Ace for their hostile behaviors and in her distorted way seems to try to be nice to her classmates at times, even though she doesn't want to trust them

** Teruko crosses it even further when she tells Min that she has no sympathy for her whatsoever, and even suggests she deserves her fate for daring to frame her, despite Min's reasons for doing so being somewhat justified and not personal against her. This is especially noticeable as Teruko says this to Min as the latter cries and hugs her for forgiveness right before she gets '''executed'''.

* TokenEvilTeammate: As of now, Teruko is seemingly the only outright {{jerkass}} out of the whole cast, not masking her personality behind a false charm like Arei or David, and being the first to willingly SpeakIllOfTheDead, in regards to Min. She's also the most aggressive, and is the only one to decide to utilize a weapon during her adventure through the killing game due to her extreme paranoia. [[AntiHero Teruko just so happens to be the protagonist too, however]].

* EveryoneHasStandards: Even after being much more cynical and uncaring toward the others as a whole, even Teruko was appalled by how Arei treated Eden outright calling Arei a bully.

* DisproportionateRetribution: After days of constant bullying from Ace, Nico decides to kill them.

* FriendToAllLivingThings: They prefer the company of animals to that of people and is a trained pet therapist.

* SympatheticMurderer: {{Subverted|Trope}}. While their motivations for killing Ace are sympathetic, they fail at it and the other students' sympathy for them is mostly out of contempt for [[TheFriendNobodyLikes Ace]] instead of seeing their actions as justified. At the end of the day they are rightfully angry with Nico because a class trial would mean killing everyone (or virtually commit suicide by MonoTV hands) and not just Ace.
