* PunnyName: Zuma's a kid who got trapped in a supernatural board game, switching out with a man who got trapped for years (from his perspective) as a child. [[Franchise/{{Jumanji}} Now sound out his name]].

* TelephoneTeleport: A secondary skill of his AstralProjection abilities which he can also use through power lines, however he [[PowerIncontinence doesn't seem to have control of where he ends up]], unless the phone is connected to someone on the other side.

* CompositeCharacter: She is a mix of three female figures from popular Japanese urban legends: she has the namesake of Reiko Kashima [[spoiler:and lost her legs due to tragic circumstances similarly to her in her backstory]], has the [[spoiler:main]] appearance, legend, BerserkButton, and title of the Slit-Mouthed Woman, and the height, [[spoiler:white dress, alternate beautiful appearance,]] and modus operandi (re: her relentless pursuit of her young targets/victims until their death) of the Hachishakusama or Eight-Foot-Tall Woman.

* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:She's the ghost of a ballet dancer who sold her body to provide for herself and her young daughter. Human traffickers eventually kidnapped her daughter, causing her to throw herself off a roof in despair.]]

* EnergyWeapon: Rokuro's [[ToolsOfTheirTrade scanner gun]] emphasies the second word.

* ShapeShifting: The gang's [[EmergencyTransformation efforts to save him]] merge his body with some of Mr. Ludris's nanoskin tech. This grants Rokuro great control over his corpus, but also [[{{Pun}} alienates]] him from the rest of the Serpoian uniformity.
* VillainsOutShopping: Following the Space Globalist arc he gets a part-time job at a convenience store.

An alien race of conquerors that intends to invade Earth.

* VilerNewVillain: To the Serpoians. Unlike the Serpoians, the Kur have no need to prey on other species, they just want fodder for their weaponry and [[TheRightOfASuperiorSpecies openly consider it there's by right]]. And while the Serpoians seem to be planning an invasion of some unknown scale, the Kur are primed for total war against the Earth.

* ShoutOut: Zuma Unji -> Zumanji -> Film/{{Jumanji}}

* MookFaceTurn: Rokuro becomes a vital ally for the gang during the Space Globalists arc. Somewhat zigzagged in that it's an EnemyMine situation, but [[spoiler:Momo at least does seem to consider him something of a friend after he sacrifices himself to save Vamola. Though it's downplayed since they go back to being enemies as soon as he turns out to be alive.]]

* EnemyMine: The Kito Matriarch teams up with Momo and Manjiro to fight the Evil Eye, realizing that he will kill all of them regardless.

* {{Foil}}: To Mrs. Aira, as Turbo Granny may dispense sage advice as well, but in a more rude and violent way, and mostly for self-benefit. She's also not shy about calling people "idiots" to their faces.

* HiddenDepths: Santa Dodoria mentions that [[spoiler:Turbo Granny always appears near the death sites of girls who died horribly in what seems to be a display of protectiveness, though she would never admit it.]]

* MistakenForBetrayal: [[spoiler:Thanks in large part to PoorCommunicationKills Momo and the others mistakenly come to the conclusion that Vamola was a scout for the alien invasion force, when in actuality she is just as much their enemy as the earthlings if not more given the invaders are the same people who wiped out her people.]]

* OneGenderRace: All Serpoians are male and require [[FaceFullOfAlienWingWong females of other species]] to provide needed genetic diversity.

* MeaninglessVillainVictory:

* TooSpicyForYogSothoth: How one of them is killed; After attempting to absorb all of Jiji's chi, he is overloaded to the point his head explodes.

** The head shape and status as all-male clones also bring [[Series/DoctorWho the Sontarans]] to mind.

* NiceJobFixingItVillain: Their MindRape (combined with the literal thing) attempt against Momo ends up unlocking her spiritual powers for messing with her brain. Momo waking up her spiritual powers, by extension, is capable of holding Turbo Granny back, and causes the entirety of the heroes of the manga to eventually assemble against them.
* OneGenderRace: All Serpoians are male and require [[MarsNeedsWomen females of other species]] to provide needed genetic diversity.
