* DoggedNiceGuy: Downplayed with Beckett. He comes across as this in being a well-meaning guard despite his obsession with the concept of princess Maria, who stands by his appreciation for "Maria" (really Gwen) despite her appearance and appears to be developing genuine feelings for the real Maria without realizing its her. Then comes the final chapters, after learning who Maria really is, he falls back into his idealized behavior and promptly forgets about Gwen (not even checking to see how she is). Its no wonder Maria is unconcerned when he is dragged away begging for her to wait for him.
* NonActionGuy: Beckett proves to be very inept at actually fighting. Though he rushes into battle to try and fight Prince Blaine to rescue "Maria" he fails miserably to get past a single guard first. [[KickTheDog That same guard also mocks him for being the reason they snuck into the palace in the first place.]] Averted with Jerry, who knocks out the Plaid captain with a bottle and gets a promotion because of it.
