* RevengeByProxy: He kidnaps the children of Wesser so he can get back at the parents for spreading the false rumors about Hollis being a pedophile and indirectly causing his own son's suicide.
* SubliminalSeduction: He kidnapped the targeted children by sending them emails on their computers with a video file containing a subliminal hypnotic command phrase that made them walk towards his van, even if it meant getting out through their windows on the second floor. Naturally, the phrase was "Hamelin" played in reverse.
** Timmy Tremaine was the sole exception, as he was one of the original children to be kidnapped, but he was given time out and never checked his computer. * EvilMentor: Had one in Everett Lynch, who taught him a way to kill his victims the way Hurst found more appropriate to his tastes and objective.
