* AssholeVictim:
** In ''Mind Over Mutant'', Cortex finally gets sick of Uka Uka and betrays him by overthrowing, capturing, and torturing the mask for his latest scheme. This is [[DownplayedTrope downplayed]], though, as the "torture" in question involves [[CoolAndUnusualPunishment being force fed cake all day until he gets sick of it forever]].
** Played straight, however, at the beginning of ''It's About Time''. After spending who knows how long attempting to escape from the past alongside Cortex and N. Tropy, Uka Uka finally succeeds in tearing open a portal back to their proper time. However, he collapses from exhaustion after the effort, and his two long-abused employees decide to leave him for dead.

* BigBad: Opposite to his brother Aku Aku, he is the main antagonist of the series. Occasionally someone else might have the role in another game, but it's generally him.

to:

* BigBad: Opposite Fittingly as the opposite to his brother brother, [[BigGood Aku Aku, he is the main antagonist of the series. Occasionally someone else might have the Aku]], Uka Uka takes on this role upon his debut in another game, but it's ''Warped''. Although he returns to this position in a few other games, Uka Uka generally him.takes a backseat to [[BigBad Cortex]] and [[VilerNewVillain N. Tropy]], and [[GreaterScopeVillain largely stays in the background as their benefactor]].

* CorruptCorporateExecutive: PlayedForLaughs. Not only is Uka Uka is the one behind Cortex Industries, but he also treats his evil plans like a business, with him expecting a certain ''evil quota'' from each of the scientists.
* DealWithTheDevil: It's implied that Cortex, N. Tropy, and all of the other {{Mad Scientist}}s in the series came under Uka's employ by striking a bargain with him to aid in their schemes.

* EnemyMine: Begrudgingly forms one with Aku Aku in ''Twinsanity'' to keep the Evil Twins from destroying the world... [[PragmaticVillainy because that's]] ''[[PragmaticVillainy his]]'' [[PragmaticVillainy job]], not theirs.

* EvilCounterpart: Obviously, to Aku Aku. Aside from literally being twins, both are the guardians of the series' two most important characters and both are powerful mask spirits with mysterious origins. The difference is that while Aku Aku uses his powers to protect others, helps to save the world, and genuinely sees Crash as a friend, Uka Uka uses his powers to abuse others, plots to TakeOverTheWorld, and sees Cortex as nothing but a tool to advance his own goals.

* EvilSorcerer: He's a powerful being with magical powers that uses in his attempts at world domination.

* {{Foil}}: A perfect one to Aku Aku. While Aku Aku is a NiceGuy who [[AFatherToHisMen cares deeply about Crash and Coco]], Uka Uka is an utter {{Jerkass}} who [[BadBoss constantly abuses his minions]], particularly Cortex.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: To compensate for his [[RememberTheNewGuy sudden introduction]] as the series' GreaterScopeVillain in the original version of ''Warped'', the ''N. Sane Trilogy'' adds new "game over" screens to the first two games that feature a shadowy Uka Uka, thus clueing new players in on who is [[TheManBehindTheMan pulling the strings]] of Cortex's operations.

* GodOfEvil: Pretty godly in terms of his power. And ''certainly'' evil.

to:

* GodOfEvil: Pretty godly in terms of his power. And power, and most ''certainly'' evil.

* IShallTauntYou: He shows up as a GameOverMan in the ''N. Sane Trilogy'' to laugh at and taunt the player for their failures.

* KnightOfCerebus: In ''Warped'' and ''Crash Bash'', Uka represented a far more sinister and powerful enemy that terrified even Cortex. Toned down in later games, where he plays more the role of a comedic BadBoss, though is still generally playing his villainy more straightfoward than the other openly goofy bad guys.
* LargeHam: Always talks loud and over-dramatic. Somewhat toned down in later games, but still.

** The ''N. Sane Trilogy'' amplifies this aspect of his character. On top of remaining the serious threat he already was in ''Warped'', the trilogy also adds new [[GameOverMan "game over" screens]] in the first two games that show a menacing, shadowy Uka Uka laughing at and [[IShallTauntYou taunting]] the player, {{Foreshadowing}} his arrival in the third.
** Although his presence in the game is [[SmallRoleBigImpact brief]], ''It's About Time'' cements him as this [[spoiler:when he returns in TheStinger, complete with an EvilLaugh and [[OhCrap a terrified expression from Cortex]]]].
* LargeHam: Always talks loud and over-dramatic. Somewhat toned down in later games, but still.still present, especially when he gets angry.

* NeverMyFault: He constantly blames Cortex and the other scientists for failing to defeat the heroes, despite the fact that they're almost always following Uka Uka's ''own commands'', while Uka himself [[OrcusOnHisThrone does little to help them out]].

* OrcusOnHisThrone: In many of his later appearances Uka contributed very little to schemes, letting Cortex or some other crony take over. He becomes more active again in ''Titans'', though still has Nina take the lead.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: Ends up on the receiving end of it in ''Mind Over Mutant'' when [[spoiler: Cortex straps him to a mojo-milking machine for what's implied to be a long time and has him fed cake all the time to make him lose appetite for him]]. Given he spent most of the revious games plotting evil schemes and abusing Cortex, it's hard to feel sorry for him.

to:

* NonActionBigBad: Despite being one of the most powerful entities in the series, Uka Uka largely takes a backseat and has Cortex and his other minions carry out his plans for him.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: Under no circumstances is anyone else allowed to destroy his brother or conquer the world. This leads to him outright teaming up with Aku Aku when the Evil Twins threaten the world without his permission.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: In many of his later appearances appearances, Uka contributed contributes very little to the villains' schemes, letting Cortex or some other crony take over. He becomes more active again in ''Titans'', though still has Nina take the lead.

** The same happens at the beginning of ''It's About Time'', when Cortex and N. Tropy leave him for dead after having to put up with his abuse for decades.

* PragmaticVillainy:
** Uka Uka's primary goal is to TakeOverTheWorld. As such, when the Evil Twins threaten to destroy it in ''Twinsanity'', he briefly puts aside his rivalry with Aku Aku and Crash and forms an EnemyMine to stop them.
** Disturbingly, ''It's About Time'' implies that Uka Uka's drive to ''conquer'' the world rather than ''destroy'' it [[spoiler:was the only thing keeping N. Tropy from attempting to do the latter himself... [[OmnicidalManiac on a multiversal scale]]]].

* RememberTheNewGuy: He's introduced like this on ''Warped'', retconning Cortex as to always have been his underling and working to help him escape his prison. Yet Aku Aku nor Cortex made any mention of this in the previous two games.

* SatanicArchetype: Being the powerful mastermind behind the series' events and the one who constantly either tempts or outright forces [[BigBad Cortex]] into villainy, Uka Uka is about as close to the ''Crash Bandicoot'' version of Satan as one can expect.

* TheUnfought: He didn't get an actual boss fight until ''Twinsanity'' and ''Crash of the Titans'', despite being one of the main villains before then. He does, however, assist Cortex in ''Warped''.

* WasOnceAMan: The original game's production bible and ''The Crash Bandicoot Files'' reveal that Aku Aku was once a human WitchDoctor before having his spirit sealed within a voodoo mask for unknown reasons. Given that Uka Uka is his twin brother, it's highly likely that this is the case for him as well.

* ForceAndFinesse: While Big Norm is certainly more skilled than most of the other racers in the circuit, he tends to lag behind Little Norm skill-wise and relies more on size and aggression. Little Norm on the other hand is significantly more skilled than his larger counterpart when it comes to core driving, but is lacking when it comes to offense. Made more apparent in 'Nitro-Fueled' where Big Norm is classified as a [[MightyGlacier fast-but-unwieldly]] Speed driver while Little Norm is a [[JackOfAllStats Balanced driver]].

* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Downplayed. As Zam and Zem [[SatelliteCharacter were simply created to give Nitros Oxide two teammates to race with]], [[FlatCharacter didn't get any development through cutscenes]], [[ChuckCunninghamSyndrome then vanished from the series]] ([[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking and even were absent from the GBA version]]), Beenox had to shape them a bit to make them more likeable in ''Nitro-Fueled''. Zem notably becomes a {{Metalhead}} with some BoisterousBruiser tendencies, Zam is more fleshed out as the weirdly cute TeamPet of Team Oxide, and both of them have skins that reveal other facets of their characters.

* FlatCharacter: Both of them. Much like Rilla Roo, they appear out of nowhere, don't get any character development through cutscenes, and then vanish from the series. Their only real purpose is to give Nitros Oxide two teammates to race with, since he was never shown with any accomplices, and can't simply brainwash pre-established characters like N. Trance. [[ChuckCunninghamSyndrome They're even absent from the GBA version altogether]]. Beenox have attempted to flesh them out more with their return in ''Nitro-Fueled''[[note]]namely, by making them [[{{Metalhead}} Metalheads]][[/note]].
