** In Blue Two Vortex, [[spoiler:Kawaki is devoting his time hunting Boruto at the safety of Konoha and not even training while Boruto is literally being chased by everyone had to fight for his life almost everyday meant that Kawaki has got out of shape, getting taken by surprise with ease and being forced to use the Karma even to deal with a single claw grime, whereas Boruto has become a powerhouse even without using it]].
** This comes to a head when, [[spoiler:in chapter 9 of Two Blue Vortex, where Kawaki and Boruto faced again, Kawaki was just taken out in one punch by Boruto, who even dodges his Sukonahikona without any effort. Boruto also calls him out for his lack of training]].
** Even though [[spoiler:they switched places in everyone's mind, because of Omnipotence, it doesn't mean that Boruto and Kawaki also exchanged personalities. As a result, at the start of Two Blue Vortex we have a Kawaki that despite believed to be the son of the Hokage who was born and raised in thr village, is still a jerk to everyone, resulting in a stained relationship with "his" loved ones, most notably Mitsuki]].
* TallDarkAndHandsome: One of the tallest characters his age a as f 183 cm (6 ft) and several female characters think that he's good looking.

* TookALevelInKindness: Kawaki goes from an aggressive, antisocial boy who's rude and shows no respect towards other to a much kinder, calmer person thanks to the kindness of Naruto and his new brotherly relationship with Boruto.

* {{Jerkass}}: This guy is an asshole to everyone due in large part to how traumatic his life has been. ''Everyone''. Even if the person in question is talking to him politely and trying to offer him a better life (food, home, companionship), Kawaki will just insult the person and insist that they have a sinister ulterior motive. His lowest point so far is actually trying to [[spoiler:escape Naruto's home by flipping over a heavy table towards the man, unintentionally breaking a vase that Himawari got for Hinata's birthday. It took Naruto actually getting ''angry'' and going into Sage Nine-Tailed Mode to finally get him to behave]].

* MagicalEye: [[spoiler:Once his karma is restored, he develops the same doujutsu Isshiki had, the difference is that he has it in his left eye instead of the right one, and that it has less spokes than the 8 seen for the Otsutsuki, suggesting that it has yet to fully mature]].

* ProtagonistJourneyToVillain: Over the course of the manga, Kawaki goes from Naruto's problematic, but heroic adopted son, to be overcome by his own emotional baggage in the end, resorting to extreme measures such as [[spoiler:imprisoning Naruto in another dimension and using Eida's Omnipotence to rewrite everyone's memories]]. He made a life goal out of wiping out all Ōtsutsuki out, including Boruto, and his hatred for anything Otsutsuki related has no end.

When Boruto rightly calls him out on this and tells him that stopping the Divine Trees should be their highest priority, [[KickTheDog Kawaki just tells him that he's an enemy of Konoha too]]. Even when Boruto asks that he at least put their fight on hold and work with him to stop their mutual enemy, Kawaki still refuses to listen.]]

** Even though they switched places, it doesn't mean that Boruto and Kawaki also exchanged personalities. As a result, Kawaki who is "Boruto" at this point had his relationships with his family and friends strained, that some are starting to realize that something is wrong despite the genjutsu affecting their memories.

Boruto is only forced to retreat when Kawaki activates his Karma, which activates Boruto's own and risks Momoshiki taking control of his body.]]

This gives Code the opportunity to escape, though Boruto [[CrazyPrepared fortunately had the foresight to plant a toad on him so he can follow him to his location]]]].

* {{Hypocrite}}: [[spoiler:In Two Blue Vortex, despite claiming that Boruto needs to be killed simply because he is an Otsutsuki, no matter his goals. He is quick to justify his own status as an Otsutsuki, saying that he exsists only to hunt down Otsutsuki]].

He still dismisses people in rude ways and doesn't care about them. It got to the point that even Mitsuki (who now believes him to be his sun) is taken aback by his attitude]].

** This is made even more clear when [[spoiler:he tries to kill Boruto again simply because he saw Momoshiki still being present within him. And after Omnipotence is casted, Kawaki immediately forces Eida to lie and tell everyone that Boruto has killed Naruto and Hinata, all to ensure that nobody would be against killing him]]. And, [[as shown in Two Blue Vortex, he still lacks any sort of consideration for anyone, including the people close to Boruto, who now believe him to be their friend and brother]].

* NavelDeepNeckline: A rare male example. Kawaki's future self is seen sporting a wide-open onesie, similar to Sasuke before him.

* AdaptationPersonalityChange: The anime keeps intact Mitsuki's CharacterDevelopment received in the "Mitsuki Disappearance Arc". In the manga he still seems to have the "Boruto's will is my will" mentality well past the point where he started to think for himself more in the anime (albeit the fact that he is featured much less in the manga makes it hard to say for sure).

* TookALevelInCynic: In ''Blue Vortex'', Mitsuki is not quite the comically unflappable and cheerful young man he was once. Believing that [[spoiler:Boruto killed Naruto and betrayed Konoha]], he turned somewhat bitter toward Boruto, and has a more jaded and serious personality. Now, he is mostly a PerpetualFrowner.

* UndyingLoyalty: To Boruto in particular, though it did get shaken up a bit during his Disappearance arc. This later extends to Team 7 as a whole. [[spoiler:Seeing Kawaki attack Boruto makes him angry enough to chase after him for vengeance, unfortunately, Eida's Omnipotence makes him think Kawaki is the friend attacked unprovoked by Boruto.]]

* BroughtDownToBadass: [[spoiler:After Isshiki is forced to resurrect himself via Jigen's karma, Kawaki's karma automatically disappears]], but he still has all the non-karma abilities granted by his modified body, plus the feats learned from his ninja peers.

* EnergyAbsorption: With his Karma active, Kawaki can absorb chakra or ninjutsu to create large explosions.

* EvilFormerFriend: Kawaki goes from being Boruto's {{Bash Brother|s}}, to his enemy after the timeskip for unknown reasons.
* EyeScream: In chapter 78 [[spoiler:he ends up slashing Boruto's left eye, as he was trying to kill Sarada, but Boruto shielded her]].
* EnergyAbsorption: Like Boruto, he has the cursed seal Karma which allows him to do this.

** To Sasuke. Like him, he has had a very distant father, is very [[TheStoic stoic]] and dislikes Naruto at first as he was used/manipulated by an older man seeking to profit off his growth and power. They also have similar personalities at least in their youth by being distrustful of others and aggressive. Both also were initially antagonistic towards members of the Uzumaki Clan, Naruto and Boruto respectively. Each seems to be a "counter character" to their Uzumaki Rival and will have/had life and death battles with them. The difference is that Kawaki and Boruto warm up to each much sooner, in relation to how long they've known each other, and their bond becomes a more brotherly one, even calling each others brothers, and all of this before things will presumely get for the worse.

** [[spoiler:It's subverted in the end as Hen doesn't kill Naruto as much as imprisoning him and Hinata in another dimension.]]

* KillTheGod: [[spoiler: [[PhysicalGod Isshiki]] met his own demise]] at Kawaki's hands, when the latter tricked him with a shadow clone.
* LackOfEmpathy: Early on, Kawaki is shown to have a profound lack of affection or interest in the feelings of others, unable to place himself in the shoes of others. As time goes on, he learns to relate his experiences with those of the people around him and grows as a human being. [[spoiler: Subverted in that it's implied to all be a front. While he may understand what others have gone through, he doesn't have the capacity to care, and is dedicated only to his obsession with Naruto. Only Shikamaru seems to realize this, as he recognizes that Kawaki did not flinch when he murdered his 'brother', and later shows no remorse or consideration for his actions]].

* LonerTurnedFriend: Before meeting Team 7, he never had friends close to his age, or any friends for the matter.

* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Not in English, but in the original Japanese, "Mitsuki" has been given three different spellings, one in katakana and two in kanji. The two use the same kanji for "Mi", but the characters used for "Tsuki" mean either vessel or moon.

* InnocentlyInsensitive: Sometimes Mitsuki doesn't know that his words could hurt other people, but since he still is learning how to be human, he doesn't really get why.

* ManipulativeBastard: Though not as malicious as his father, Orochimaru, Mitsuki certainly seems capable of this if he ever wanted to be. He is careful with his words and doesn't say things he doesn't deem necessary, leading him to be able to twist out of conversations or get people to do things.

* TheStoic: Unlike Boruto and Sarada, he doesn't show much emotion. In fact, he seems to only have two emotions: neutrally serious or pleasantly happy (though it's hard to pinpoint if this is genuine sometimes). He seems to genuinely enjoy the company of his team though, especially Boruto whom he has a continuous admiration for. He also feels more than he lets on, especially as his personality continues to grow and mature, but feelings other than the aforementioned ones rarely reveal themselves on his face.

* TheHerosJourney: Along with Boruto.

* TheTeam: The main team of Boruto: Next Generations.

* WhyAmITicking: It's eventually revealed by Orochimaru that Mitsuki was implanted with a curse mark on his heart that would blow him up if anyone investigated his body deeply enough to figure out the secrets of his creation, killing him on the spot and preventing the knowledge from falling into other's hands. Mitsuki is or at least became aware of the curse mark, and it doesn't seem to bother him, indeed it's presence may have saved him from being potentially dissected by the Iwa doctor, said doctor having to limit himself to less invasive scans.
