* WouldHitAGirl: He didn't hesitate to hit Isane during his rescue of Rukia. When fighting a group of female Sternritter to protect a battered Kenpachi, he comments that fighting girls turned out to be hardly any different from fighting guys. He also kicks Rukia in the very beginning.

* AdaptationDyeJob: According to the manga color spreads his original [[BattleAura spiritual pressure]] is yellow, which turns pitch-black once his [[TheCorruption Hollowfication]] activates during a fight with [[ToBeLawfulOrGood Byakuya Kuchiki]]. After the Lost Agent arc color spreads show his spiritual pressure is now a dark blue-white. In the anime, his spiritual pressure has consistently shown a pale blue-white in Shikai and black with a blue/red outline in Bankai -- though the anime adaptation of the ''Thousand Year Blood War'' colors his Shikai reiatsu yellow and his Bankai reiatsu black like in the manga.
* AllLovingHero: Ichigo once made a vow to himself to never let anyone suffer a sad face the way he did when his mother died. As a result he'll protect anyone who needs protecting, no matter how well he knows them or even if they're supposed to be on the enemy's side. The need to protect is the main driving force for his resolve. At the start of the final arc [[TricksterMentor Kisuke Urahara]] [[LampshadeHanging remarks on]] Ichigo unhesitatingly going off to save [[SeaOfSand Hueco Mundo]] from the [[PuttingOnTheReich Vandenreich]] at [[NiceGirl Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck]]'s request even though Hollows other than Nelliel's group have been his enemies.

* SwordBeam: Ichigo's Zanpakuto ability is Getsuga Tensho, which produces a crescent-shaped wave or beam of Spiritual Pressure. With his fake Zanpakuto's Shikai, it was originally yellow (light blue in the anime), but after his powers are restored, it turns dark blue (remaining pale blue in the anime). His fake Bankai's version of the technique explicitly draws upon his Inner Hollow's power and is black (with a variously dark blue or red outline in the original anime) and jagged, growing more potent when used in conjunction with his Hollow Mask -- with Ulquiorra noting that this attack closely resembles his own Cero Oscuras. With his true Zanpakuto, the original variant of Getsuga Tensho is now fired from his short sword. Getsuga Juujishou upgrades this by firing a second Getsuga Tensho from the long sword as well, creating a cross-shaped beam; while his long sword can be used on its own to fire the jagged black Getsuga Tensho -- which is colored red in ''Bleach: Brave Souls''. In his merged Hollow form, he can combine Getsuga Tensho with a Gran Rey Cero and fire it from his larger sword, which can injure beings as powerful as the Soul King-empowered Yhwach.

* TechnicolorBlade: His Zanpakuto is pure white in Asauchi form, but black in all other forms.

** When his Fullbring upgrade fails against Haschwalth and Yhwach, Ichigo attains his true Zanpakuto and is equipped with special armor that lets him shrug off attacks that devastated other powerful Soul Reapers. The boost in power he gets is significant enough for him to be able to fight on par with Yhwach, who previously swatted him aside with ease, and that's only in Shikai.

* TookALevelInCheerfulness: Throughout his adventures as a Shinigami which often had Ichigo confront long-standing problems that he previously buried deep down, he becomes less and less of the PerpetualFrowner sour grump he was in the beginning.

* UnstoppableRage: When he transforms into his Hollow form, he loses all morals and becomes a rampaging monster. The Hollow form he uses usually comes in desperate situations where he is about to die or when his friends are in danger. For example, one instance where he became a Hollow due to anger was in the Hell Verse when Kokuto betrays him and taunts about how Ichigo's sister couldn't handle Hell's atmosphere and developed sinner chains, he goes all out berserker rage and shoots Ceros rapidly and unleashes an extremely large and powerful one that is strong enough to break it's gates.

* RoaringRampageOfRevenge:
** Ichigo is usually a pretty emotional fighter to begin with, but Tsukishima [[MindRape pushed him so far and pressed so many buttons]] that Ichigo was reduced to nothing but murderous intent in a human shell for a short while.
** When Yhwach smugly confessed to being the leader of the Wandenreich, Ichigo attacked him in a berserk rage -- though Yhwach was able to subdue him, noting that Ichigo had already exhausted himself escaping from Quilge Opie's The Jail.

** The destabilization of his powers following his use of the Final Getsuga Tensho is given as the reason behind his Hollowfication in the Reigai Uprising filler arc.

* SplitPersonalityTakeover: Ichigo's second Hollowfication occurred when his [[SuperPoweredEvilSide Inner Hollow]] seized control of his body to help him fight Byakuya, and it tried to take over when he fought Ulquiorra and Yammy, and during his fight with Grimmjow. Ichigo was told by the Visored that his [[TransformationOfThePossessed involuntary transformations]] were a result of his Inner Hollow attempting to seize control of his body, with the Inner Hollow itself corroborating this during its TheReasonYouSuckSpeech. Ichigo eventually learned his Inner Hollow was the result of the artificial Hollow White [[MergerOfSouls integrating its soul into his own]], but chose to acknowledge it as being [[BeneathTheMask a part of himself]] rather than a [[EnemyWithin separate entity]], reconciling with it and attaining a controlled Hollow form. When Orihime fears he's lost control when she sees his horn and facial markings when he Hollowfies to fight Yhwach, Ichigo assures her he's in control of himself this time. Despite this, Soul Society fears that Ichigo might lose control again and boots him back to the Human World after Yhwach's defeat.

** He ignores Soul Society's preparations for the Winter War to charge into Hueco Mundo to save Orihime; just as Aizen planned. This one almost gets him killed. Grimmjow points out that Ichigo could take Orihime and run, but isn't because he wants to settle their score. Ichigo doesn't deny this. Later on, his insistance on fighting Ulquiorra even though he's ''way'' overpowered leads to the latter punching a second hole through his chest, bringing him to the brink of death. Orihime has to save his life. Again.

* {{Determinator}}: If he has to win, he'll keep fighting until he wins. Even when questioned by Ulquiorra on why he continues to persist, he states "It's not because I can win or not. It's because I ''have'' to win". His zanpakuto is also quite focused on ensuring Ichigo continues being a determinator and gets very angry with Ichigo when his resolve is so shaken that his inner world has flooded with despair.

* PowerLossDepression: Despite maintaining that [[IJustWantToBeNormal he wants to go back to his normal life]], once Ichigo loses his powers following Aizen's defeat he realizes he doesn't know what he wants to do with his life, his friends [[LockedOutOfTheLoop have been excluding him]], and that he can't properly defend himself -- let alone the people he cares about -- and settles into a funk that's only broken when Kūgo Ginjō offers him a way to regain his powers. When this turns out to be a trap and Ginjō steals his newly-mastered Fullbring, Ichigo is left screaming in despair and anguish at the loss of his powers for a second time.

* FieryRedhead: Zigzagged. Ichigo has spiky, orange hair and while he comes off as a frowning, aloof person, he can be quite HotBlooded.

* BigBrotherInstinct: Ichigo believes the oldest brother is born first to protect all the siblings that follow, so he has big issues with older brothers that put their siblings in danger as he makes clear to both Sora and Byakuya for their mistreatment of Orihime and Rukia respectively. In ''Hell Verse'' Ichigo's emotions are stretched beyond their breaking point by the enemy's kidnapping and mistreatment of his younger sister [[ChildrenDoTheHousework Yuzu Kurosaki]].

* MistakenForDyed: Because of his orange hair, a lot of people assume Ichigo to be some JapaneseDelinquent.

* TheHero: Ichigo has wished for the power to protect others ever since a Hollow killed his mother, having felt it was his fault she died. Naturally, he accepts Rukia's suggestion to become a Soul Reaper to save his family. Furthermore, feeling it was more his fault than hers that Rukia was sentenced to be executed, he sets out to Soul Society and fights the elite Soul Reapers to rescue her. After sacrificing his powers to stop Aizen, he becomes dissatisfied and frustrated with his mundane life -- as his friends cut him out of the loop in order to protect him -- and joins X-Cution to regain his Soul Reaper powers and become a hero again.

The hero of the series, sarcastic and grumpy, Ichigo originally attempted to cultivate a tough guy image to hide his sense of powerlessness at being unable to protect either people or the spirits he can secretly see. When [[ActionGirl Rukia Kuchiki]] gives him Soul Reaper powers she's shocked by how quickly his abilities eclipse her own and forces him to assume her duties while she's powerless. When Soul Society retrieves the AWOL Rukia, Ichigo learns she will be executed due to it being illegal for Soul Reapers to imbue humans with their powers so he begins an assault on Soul Society to save her.

* AntiHero: Ichigo starts off as someone who acts like a jerk and rejects his duties as a Substitute Soul Reaper. However, it's because he rejects the premise on which the Soul Reapers function, his motivations for helping people being completely different to Rukia's. Once that understanding becomes clear, he becomes openly proud of using his Soul Reaper powers to protect others and he drops the jerk act.
* ApathyKilledTheCat: He starts to learn the truth about his family origins from things the villains say to him. Even when he finds out his father [[BumblingDad Isshin Kurosaki]] [[RetiredBadass was a Soul Reaper]] he simply acknowledges it's intrusive to demand answers and will instead wait until his father is ready to tell the story. He also doesn't interrogate Urahara too closely about the information he does and does not provide, although he eventually makes it clear the reason for this is because he doesn't think it would do any good; Urahara simply isn't the kind of person who can be squeezed for information he doesn't want to give.
* AttackAttackAttack: Ichigo will fight until he collapses. [[HeroicResolve Then he gets up and does it again]], if his Inner Hollow doesn't do it for him. This doesn't always work, though, like when Aizen nearly cut him in half and told him that he could have all the guts and courage in the world and it wouldn't matter because his body just would not work. Same situation when Ulquiorra [[CurbStompBattle utterly owned Ichigo]] (before his Hollow form kicked in) and Ichigo could not be convinced to surrender.
* BabiesEverAfter: The epilogue takes place ten years in the future just as Rukia is being promoted to captain. At the same time in the human world, a small orange-headed boy is causing trouble for Hiyori. He turns out to be Kazui Kurosaki, Ichigo and [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} Orihime Inoue]]'s son. Orihime knows where he is at all times because she uses her Shun Shun Rikka to keep watch over Kazui.

* BadPowersGoodPeople: Hollows are viewed as evil because they are driven by base instincts and negative emotions, consume souls to survive and grow in power and Hollowfication combines Hollow Souls with Humans or [[{{Shinigami}} Soul Reapers]] to augment the latter at the risk of becoming powerful yet mindless and - at worse - being utterly destroyed. Ichigo's mother was parasitized by an artificial Hollow called White which was transferred into him when he was born and merged with his Soul Reaper powers to become his [[EmpathicWeapon Zanpakuto]] spirit and Inner Hollow. With training Ichigo learned to channel Hollow [[SoulPower spirit energy]] into a powerful Getsuga Tensho and create a [[MaskOfPower Hollow mask]] to augment his powers, though in this state he becomes more aggressive and his spiritual pressure is described as dark, heavy and malevolent. Orihime is actually somewhat terrified of him the first time she sees him fighting with his Hollow mask (during his final bout with Grimmjow) in no small part given her experience with her Hollowfied brother Sora until she's chastised by Nel for not recognizing him as the same guy who's been fighting to rescue her.

* BattleInTheRain: During the Memories of the Rain arc Ichigo fights his mother's killer Grand Fisher in the depths of the pouring rain.

** Ichigo clashes his [[SwordBeam Getsuga Tenshou]] against Grimmjow's and Ulquiorra's Ceros multiple times.
** When fighting Zangetsu in the [[{{Filler}} Zanpakuto Uprising arc]] he clashes his Getsuga Tensho against Zangetsu's.

* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: The simple yet complex reason why he and Chad are friends. Specifically, Chad took a beating for Ichigo when the latter was getting beaten up by a gang. Later on, Ichigo rescued Chad from the same gang and saved [[TragicKeepsake the coin given to Chad by his grandfather]]. After the latter incident, they both made a vow to fight for and to protect each other.
* BecomeYourWeapon: His final Zanpakuto technique fuses him with Zangetsu, which is used to provide enough of a beating to Aizen that he can be sealed by Urahara.
* TheBerserker: When Ichigo fights to save the people he cares about, he will never give up fighting. He will keep getting up even if it becomes physically impossible for him to do so, such as when Aizen paralyses his spine to prevent him from being able to protect Rukia. He therefore fights head-on, preferring to leave strategy to Uryu -- and if Uryu takes too long in coming up with a strategy, Ichigo will give up waiting and charge in to battle anyway. When Ulquiorra injures him to the point of death, Orihime's screams drive his need to protect so much that his Hollow takes over and brings him back to his feet as a wrathful monster that attacks anything that tries to stop him from protecting her -- even Uryu.

** In its sealed form in the early chapters/episodes, his false Zanpakuto resembled an enormous broad-bladed katana, with its size being a sign of his unusually-high but uncontrolled spiritual power. Byakuya assumes this sword to be derived from Rukia's stolen Soul Reaper powers, but this is called into question by Ichigo still possessing it after Rukia's powers are purged from him and his own are awakened.
** His Shikai is a six-foot khyber knife with cloth hilt wrap for a handle. After being upgraded by remnants of his Fullbring it resembles an equally massive bowie knife with a proper hilt and a chain attached to the end, and has a strong resemblance to Yhwach's personal sword.

Ichigo's "shut up" leads straight into Bankai before he reveals he's telling Uryu to shut up, not Ginjo. He then orders Ginjo to shut up as well.

His growth rate is phenomenal, quickly allowing him to surpass even talented veterans. He has the ability to gain many different kinds of powers, but because they interfere with each other, his competence level fluctuates until he is able to resolve the issue. His Zanpakuto is '''''Zangetsu''''', which was originally a large blade created by his fusion of Hollow and Soul Reaper powers. It allows him to condense his spirit energy at the tip of the blade and blast it all at once at his enemies - a technique known as ''Getsuga Tenshou''. After obtaining his own Asauchi, it changes to two blades, one of which is large and the other of which is a smaller, arm-length blade. This weapon is destroyed by Yhwach, and subsequently reverts to its original appearance. His Bankai is '''''Tensa Zangetsu''''', originally a slender pitch-black katana which compresses his vast power within his body, allowing him to perform combat at blinding speeds and with greater strength.

* AbilityMixing: Ichigo's "Lost Agent" Shikai and Bankai are the result of the remnants of his Fullbring amalgamating with his restored Soul Reaper powers, making him stronger than he was previously, to the point where the shockwave of a simple sword slash was comparable to one of his pre-timeskip Getsuga Tenshōs.
* TheAce: Ichigo has the unique and extremely useful power to develop his skills and abilities much faster than anyone else. Given that most Soul Reaper take ten years to learn how to manifest Bankai, and another ten to master it, the fact that he learns ''within two days'' how to use his effectively enough to match one of the strongest Captains, even with an advantageous matchup, is nothing short of terrifying. And that's before he starts getting crazy power boosts from mastering his Inner Hollow abilities.
* AdaptationDyeJob: According to the manga color spreads, his original Spiritual Pressure is yellow, which turns pitch-black once his Hollowfication activates during the fight with Byakuya. After the ''Lost Agent'' arc, color spreads show his Spiritual Pressure is now a dark blue-white. In the anime, his Spiritual Pressure has consistently shown a pale blue-white in Shikai and black with a blue/red-outline in Bankai -- though the anime adaptation of the ''Thousand Year Blood War'' colors his Shikai reiatsu yellow and his Bankai reiatsu black like in the manga.
* AllLovingHero: Ichigo once made a vow to himself to never let anyone suffer a sad face the way he did when his mother died. As a result, he'll protect anyone who needs protecting, no matter how well he knows them or even if they're supposed to be on the enemy's side. The need to protect is the main driving force for his resolve. At the start of the final arc, Urahara remarks on Ichigo unhesitatingly going off to save Hueco Mundo from the Vandenreich at Nel's request, even though Hollows and Arrancar other than Nel's group have been his enemies up until this point.
* AllMenArePerverts: Try as he might, he couldn't resist the thought of [[ProudBeauty Rangiku]] lifting up her skirt in an attempt to sleep at his house.
* AlternateIdentityAmnesia: When he first fights with Grimmjow,[[note]]While not a total loss of control, he begins losing sight in his right eye as it Hollowfies.[[/note]] dukes it out with Hiyori, during his fight with Ulquiorra, and during the anime's Reigai Uprising filler arc, being taken over by his Inner Hollow causes him to black out with no memory of what happened during that period.
* AntiHero: Ichigo starts off as someone who acts like a jerk and rejects his duties as a Substitute Soul Reaper. However, it's because he rejects the premise on which the Soul Reapers function, his motivations for helping people are completely different to Rukia's. Once that understanding becomes clear, he becomes openly proud of using his Soul Reaper powers to protect others and he drops the jerk act.
* ApathyKilledTheCat: He starts to learn the truth about his family origins from things the villains say to him. Even when he finds out Isshin is a Soul Reaper, he simply acknowledges it's intrusive to demand answers and will instead wait until his father is ready to tell the story. He also doesn't interrogate Urahara too closely about the information he does and does not provide, although he eventually makes it clear to the reader that the reason for this is because he doesn't think it would do any good. Urahara simply isn't the kind of person who can be squeezed for information he doesn't want to give.
* AttackAttackAttack: Ichigo will fight until he collapses. [[HeroicResolve Then he gets up and does it again]], if his [[SuperPoweredEvilSide Inner Hollow]] doesn't do it for him. This doesn't always work, though, like when Aizen nearly cut him in half and told him that he could have all the guts and courage in the world and it wouldn't matter because his body just would not work. Same situation when Ulquiorra [[CurbStompBattle utterly owned Ichigo]] (at least before his Hollow form kicked in) and Ichigo could not be convinced to surrender.
* BabiesEverAfter: The epilogue takes place ten years in the future just as Rukia is being promoted to captain. At the same time in the human world, a small orange-headed boy is causing trouble for Hiyori. He turns out to be Kazui Kurosaki, Ichigo and Orihime's young son. Orihime knows where he is at all times because she uses her Shun Shun Rika to keep watch over Kazui.
* BackToBackBadasses: So many Hollows turned up after Uryu releases his Hollow bait that Ichigo and Uryu find themselves completely surrounded. They agree to fight back-to-back... only because it's [[TeethClenchedTeamwork absolutely necessary]] and not because they're [[FireForgedFriends beginning to bond]] in the slightest.
* BadassAndChildDuo: Nel latches onto Ichigo from the moment they meet, resulting in him having to look after her throughout the Arrancar Arc. This pays off eventually when her need to repay his kindness breaks her amnesiac SleepModeSize and transforms her back into her true, former Espada form.
* BadassBoast: When he and Renji first meet, he's not at all intimidated by the fact he's dealing with a high-ranking, properly trained and experienced Soul Reaper. Instead, he simply quips an introduction to him announcing the outcome of the fight before it has even begun.

* BadPowersGoodPeople: Hollows are viewed as evil because they are driven by base instincts and negative emotions, and consume souls to survive and grow in power, and Hollowfication combines a Hollow's soul with a human spirit or a Soul Reaper to augment the latter at the risk of them becoming a powerful, mindless Hollow and - at worse - being utterly destroyed. Ichigo's mother was parasitized by an artificial Hollow called White, which was transferred into him when he was born and merged with his Soul Reaper powers to become his Zanpakuto Spirit and Inner Hollow. With training, Ichigo learned to channel Hollow Spiritual Energy into a powerful Black Getsuga Tensho and manifest a Hollow mask to augment his powers, though in this state, he becomes more aggressive and his Spiritual Pressure is described as dark, heavy, and malevolent. Orihime is actually somewhat terrified of him the first time she sees him fighting with his Hollow mask (during his final fight with Grimmjow), in no small part given her experience with her Hollowfied brother, until she's chastised by Nel for not recognizing him as the same guy who's been fighting to rescue her.
* BattleAura: As with all spiritual beings, Ichigo's Spiritual Pressure can be used to announce his presence or strength of power and resolve. In the manga and ''Thousand Year Blood War'' anime, Ichigo's Spiritual Pressure is yellow and turns gold or jet black in his Bankai; while in the original anime his Spiritual Pressure is light blue and turns black with a blue or red outline in his Bankai. His most resolved and violent battles will transform his aura into a Hollow's mask, which is first seen during his fight with Kenpachi. When Yhwach smugly admits he was the one who laid waste to Soul Society in ''Thousand Year Blood War'', Ichigo is so enraged that his reiatsu turns from its usual gold to a Hollow-esque crimson.
* BattleInTheCenterOfTheMind: After he loses to Zaraki, Ichigo is pulled into his inner world by the Old Man and made to fight his Inner Hollow to teach him how to properly wield a Zanpakuto. In the early Arrancar Arc, Ichigo battles his Inner Hollow for control over his body. Later, he has to overcome his deep despair to learn his weapon's ultimate technique by fighting a merged being consisting of Tensa Zangetsu and the Inner Hollow. In the anime, Ichigo and his Inner Hollow tag-team against Muramasa, a Zanpakuto Spirit who possesses the ability to enter a Soul Reaper's inner world.
* BattleInTheRain: During the "Memories of the Rain" arc, Ichigo fights his mother's killer, the Grand Fisher, in the depths of the pouring rain.

** Multiple times, Ichigo clashes his [[SwordBeam Getsuga Tenshou]] against Grimmjow's and Ulquiorra's Ceros.
** When fighting Zangetsu in the Muramasa Filler, he clashes his Getsuga Tensho against Zangetsu's.
** During the Arrancar arc, Ichigo's [[OneWingedAngel second Hollow form]] overpowers Ulquiorra's Cero Oscuras -- which is an order of magnitude more powerful than his regular Cero -- with its own normal Cero.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: The simple, yet complex reason why he and Chad are friends. Specifically, Chad took a beating for Ichigo when the latter was getting beaten up by a gang. Later on, Ichigo rescued Chad from the same gang and saved the [[TragicKeepsake coin]] given to Chad by his grandfather. After the latter incident, they both made a vow to fight for and to protect each other.
