* NotSoStoic: Zommari appears to be one of the calmer members of the Espada, emphasized as he meditates while Ulquiorra, Grimmjoww and Nnoitra seek out a fight, but when Byakuya gaisn the upper hand in their fight he loses his cool, ultimately crying out hysterically as he succumbs to his wounds.

* WeHardlyKnewYou: Zommari doesn't get anywhere near the level of exposure the other Espada receive, content to just meditate when Ichigo and his comrades invade Las Noches while the other lower-level Espada go on the prowl. His fight with Byakuya was one of the (if not the) shortest fights of Espada and even in The Unmasked Data book the only thing revealed about him is that he was once a king.

His fight with Byakuya was one of the (if not the) shortest fights of Espada and even in The Unmasked Data book the only thing revealed about him is that he was once a king.

* CrazyPrepared: Szayelaporro prepares contingency plans and comes up with ways to counteract his enemies on-the-fly, and even if he is defeated has a number of ways to recover and keep fighting. The only one able to defeat him is Mayuri Kurotsuchi, who is just as crazy as he is if not moreso.

* FauxAffablyEvil: Szayelaporro usually projects a calm and polite demeanor. But do not be fooled. Beneath that facade, Szaeylaporro is an arrogant, depraved, ruthless, and sadistic monster of a MadScientist with a hunger for reaching perfection. When Renji finally manages to damage him, Szayaelaporro finally loses his cool and spends the rest of his screentime being openly cruel.

* FirstInjuryReaction: Szayelaporro spends most of the time being insufferably smug to Uryu and Renji during their fight. When they finally manage to harm him, Szayelaporro loses his temper.

* KnightOfCerebus: Is far more depraved compared to the rest of his comrades and he wastes no time showing how much of an awful person he is. Especially in the "No Breaths From Hell" chapter, where he explains that the gates of Hell have been broken from the inside and untold horros are about to be unleashed.

* SevenDeadlySins: He has two. Aaroniero's resurrección is called Glotonería, meaning "Gluttony". His "Aspect of Death" was confirmed to be Greed. He gains power through consumption and is on the lookout for more powers, not taking full advantage of the ones he'd already acquired.

* SpeakIllOfTheDead: He made sure to call Ulquiorra and Nnoitra garbage after they died. Same with Grimmjow, but he was actually still alive. Ichigo finds himself disgusted, despite them being his enemies who he doesn't regret cutting down, and noted that Orihime seemed sadder about Ulquiorra's death than his own fellow Espada.

* EnemyMine: Grimmjoww forms an alliance with Ichigo's companions during the Wandenreich assault, due to Quincies being a greater threat to the existence of Hollows than Soul Reapers are.

* EvenEvilHasStandards: While he may be a savage BloodKnight, Grimmjow does follow his own code of honor. If he feels he is in debt to someone, he will go out of his way to repay it; he rescues Orihime, who had healed his arm prior, from Loly and Menoly who had been torturing her as a way to thank her. He's also clearly disgusted with the two Arrancar girls for beating Orihime up when she had done nothing to deserve it. He's also a firm believer in a fair fight, having Orihime heal Ichigo's wounds so they can duel on equal terms.

He also doesn't pursue Ichigo after the latter protected him from Nnoitra despite initially refusing to admit defeat.

* FriendlyEnemy: Well as "friendly" as someone as violent as Grimmjow can be. His single-minded goal in life is to tear Ichigo into pieces. But alas, he can't do that when there's bad guys left and right causing all sorts of trouble and mayhem for Ichigo and his friends. As a result, he makes it a point to be an ally to Ichigo and protect those close to him, at least until the dust settles. He also was genuinely disgusted that Loly and Menoly's abuse Orihime, who is a non-combatant and hadn't even done anything to deserve it, dealing out violent retribution to them both before demanding Orihime fix her injuries before he took her to heal Ichigo. There's also the fact that he's extremely sporting about his potential rematch, making sure Ichigo is fully healed and at full strength before they fight. For the most part, Ichigo reciprocates this weird relationship. When he returns in the final arc, he becomes a tentative ally during the fight against Yhwach and does work along them against the Quincies.

* Foil: To Harribel. While Harribel is stoic, cares for her subordinates and is a straightforward fighter, Szayelaporro is flamboyant, treats his underlings like pawns and relies on trickery to win a fight. Both also have holes in their genital areas, but the significance is different for both, as Harribel has motherly instincts while Szayelaporro is a deviant.

* PurpleIsPowerful: Szayelaporro's Resurreccion has purple accents.

* SevenDeadlySins: Tite Kubo revealed in the Masked interview that some of the Espada were modeled after the Seven Deadly Sins. His Resurrección, Fornicaras, which means "you will fornicate" in Spanish, along with his ability to "impregnate" an enemy with himself mark him as Lust.

When he breaks out of Hell, Szayaelaporro exhibits a stalker-like obsessiveness and the way his horns form out of pus bursting from his temples is highly suggestive.

* SinisterSurveillance: He has spy bugs placed on his brother, and in every section of his lair which he uses to learn all he can about Ishida and Renji.

to:

* SinisterSurveillance: He has had spy bugs placed on his brother, and in every section of his lair which he uses to learn all he can about Ishida and Renji.

* EvilIsPetty: Wearing Kaien's face and trying to prey on Rukia's guilt was insanely cruel even for an Arrancar.

* Foil: To Starrk, the other Espada who has twin identities. Starrk looks like a handsome man, is a PunchClockVillain who treats his opponents with respect and his partner is a separate identity. Aaroniero on the other hand looks horrifying, is a CardCarryingVillain who preys on his opponents' insecurities and his partner is just a wimpier version of himself.

* NonstandardCharacterDesign: While the other Espada look human (though Yammy and Nnoitra look a bit abnormal), Aaroniero has what appears to be a preservation jar holding two shrunken heads where his actual head should be and his left arm is a mass of tentacles with an orifice in the "palm". It's unknown what the rest of his body looks like under his robes.

* TombstoneTeeth: His Resurreccion has a big cartoony mouth with gigantic dentures.

* BaldOfEvil: Yammy's bald except fo a ponytail and sideburns. When he releases, he loses those as well.

* TheChewToy: Yammy's the least dignified of the Espada by a wide margin. Anytime he's onscreen he's either getting outsmarted or taking lumps. Even when it's revealed he's actually more powerful than even Starrk, Yammy still gets beaten offscreen.

* CurbStompBattle: His off-screen fight with Rukia, Chad, and Renji, which he won handily, with Rukia left the only one standing by the time the outcome of the battle is seen, and unable to deal any major damage.

* EvilEvolves: Yammy gains strength by eating and sleeping and gets bigger when he's at his peak. His Resurreccion can also transform from a dinosaur-looking monster to something more simian, mimicking a basic idea of an evolutionary chain.
* FacialHorror: When using Resurreccion, Yammy's mask remnants replace his actual jaw.

to:

%%* KickTheDog: * KickTheDog:
** Yammy spends his first scene beating down anyone who lays eyes on him, none of whom could pose any threat. Compare that to Ulquiorra and Grimmjoww, who focus only on opponents that can actually fight back. After having his arm reattached, Yammy bludgeons the medic just to test his arm's strength.

* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Yammy Zig Zags with this trope. At first it seems he's incredibly weak, then he reveals that he's actually the 0th Espada and technically above Starrk. And he still gets his ass kicked. Then he reveals that he's just not at full power and goes to full power mode... and he still gets his ass kicked. The Espada are ranked according to Spiritual Pressure, and Yammy's is the highest, but he lacks all the extra bells and whistles that make the other Espada so dangerous. The official UNMASKED databook states that despite Byakuya and Kenpachi looking down on him and beating him off-screen, they actually suffered brutal injuries against him, a proof of his Cero Espada rank but Kenpachi describes their fight as boring, a criterion he applies to any fight where his life is not in danger at any point.

* UnskilledButStrong: He has the highest amount of raw power of any of the Espada, but he lacks any of their special tricks like Respira or Starrk's wolves. He doesn't even seem to have Sonido. Thus, he has the top position without being the most effective combatant. An injured Byakuya and Kenpachi are able to kill him despite his raw power, with Kenpachi even calling him "boring".
