* JackOfAllStats: Jin's greatest attribute, he can be played reasonably well from anywhere on screen despite not excelling as well as other characters. [[SkillGateCharacter Which is why is he good for beginners.]] Also being an expy to [[VideoGame/GuiltyGear Ky]] this was inevitable.

* BerserkButton: He ''really'' won't tolerate anyone, not even Tsubaki, getting in the way of his feud with his brother. [[spoiler:Deconstructed in ''Wheel of Fortune'' where his obsession with fighting Ragna led to him ignoring her and sweeping her aside, and indirectly led to her death by Nu.]]

* UsedToBeASweetKid: Flashbacks in Central Fiction showed that Jin was very fond of Ragna and even compassionate. Pretty big far cry to the aloof, and antisocial person he'd become as an adult.
* VillainProtagonist: Pre-CharacterDevelopment. Though he was at worst an AxeCrazy jerk rather than a true villain.

* CelibateHero: Despite how obviously he cares about [[HeroesWantRedheads Tsubaki]], he doesn't really express any actual romantic attraction towards her, or any other woman for that matter. Although this is somewhat justified, considering what the hell is currently going on, it's not really the best time to be acting on your feelings when there are more important things at stake. Though [[spoiler:his other self Hakumen]] did have feelings for Tsubaki.

* HeroesWantRedheads: With Tsubaki as his ImpliedLoveInterest and MoralityPet.

* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: While they are the secondary main characters of their respective series, this is played straight with Ky Kiske from ''VideoGame/GuiltyGear''. Ky is a rather straight example of a KnightInShiningArmor being chivalrous and all around morally upright, if somewhat naïve despite the CrapsackWorld he lives in, and somewhat religious. Jin is more of a KnightInSourArmor by comparison, essentially an atheist, and barely holds his contempt for everything around him and is pretty nihilistic on top of it all.

* CorruptedCharacterCopy: He is also this for [[Characters/GuiltyGearKyKiske Ky Kiske]]. Both are blonde {{bishonen}} deuteragonists who wear blue, have a rivalry with the DarkIsNotEvil red-wearing [[MorphWeapon transforming]] OneHandedZweihander-wielding protagonist, and are the figureheads of their respective governments (United Kingdoms of Illyria for Ky, NOL for Jin). But whereas Ky is an all-around NiceGuy and potentially a KnightInShiningArmor and IdealHero, Jin is a selfish, sociopathic, [[StrawNihilist nihilistic]] jerk and SmugSnake borderling on VillainProtagonist who cares very little for people other than himself. While Ky prefers to have things settled peacefully (even if it comes at his detriment) unless his hand is forced, Jin often loses it and goes AxCrazy (particularly when near Ragna or Noel). Even Ky's loving relationship with a nonhuman MacGuffinGirl known as Dizzy stands in stark contrast with Jin's hateful and abusive relationship with Dizzy's counterpart Noel Vermillion.

* VirtuousCharacterCopy: As opposed to being a more corrupt version of [[VideoGame/GuiltyGear Ky Kiske]], Jin is a more virtuous version of Vergil. Both are the [[RedOniBlueOni more calm Blue Oni to their more brash brother's Red Oni]]. They are both cold, distand, selfish jerks with [[TheSocialDarwinist strong hatred for weakness]], which fortunately gets better over the course of the series. They share a DarkAndTroubledPast involving their family, as well as having some of the most [[CainAndAbel dysfunctional sibling rivalries with their brother]]. They even has a similar [[IaijutsuPractitioner sword style]]. However this is where the similarities end. While Vergil is AmbiguouslyEvil, with an AmbitionIsEvil mindset that ultimately leads him to literally falling to hell [[spoiler:which only gets worse for him from there]], Jin's insanity and villainess actions are [[BrainwashedAndCrazy entirely not his own]], with [[BigBad Yuuki Terumi]] and [[EvilWeapon Yukianesa]] being the ones responsible. As the series progresses, Jin [[TookALevelInKindness actually gets better]], [[spoiler:while Vergil in becomes even worse up until the end]]. As arrogant as the two can be, Jin never looks for more power, as he believes that his strength is enough, and when it wasn't he looked to awaken his latent inner power to become stronger. Vergil in comparison always felt the ''need'' for more power, and would kill anyone to get it, actively endangering the world while doing so. While took a reality check for both of them to start to get better, Jin got it from his AlternateSelf FutureBadass Hakumen effectively telling him to grow up, while Vergil [[spoiler:had to create a HelplessGoodSide in the form of V and [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone realize]] the literal monster he [[EnemyWithout created/turned himself into]]]].

Both are nonhuman deuteragonists who wear blue, use a long katana as his main weapon and [[IaijutsuPractitioner fight with a quick-draw style]], have similarly cold, selfish jerk and [[TheSocialDarwinist darwinistic]] attitude that becomes better over the course of the series, and have the same DarkAndTroubledPast and antagonistic sibling relationship like his brother. However while Vergil was more AmbiguouslyEvil than outright villainous, Jin was presented as being much more unambiguously a [[VillainProtagonist villain]], is [[LaughingMad far]] [[AxCrazy less]] [[BloodKnight stable]] in personality, and far more [[SmugSnake arrogant]] and [[ItsAllAboutMe egotistical]] than Vergil, even after CharacterDevelopment. In short, he’s [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome realistically]] what someone who’s lived Vergil’s life would be in a more cynical world. Jin acts as a cruel deconstruction of the StockShonenRival archetype, taking Vergil's attitude and personality to places much darker than anything his inspiration did.
