* FakingTheDead: Was revealed to have done this since he got slung out of Big City; he escaped the helicopter with a parachute before it crashed, but everyone in Big City thought he died in the crash when they find the wreckage with Chip nowhere in sight. Chip uses their ignorance to go back to the city undercover so he can spy on the Greens and get ideas on how to plan bigger revenge on everyone who wronged him.

* MadnessMakeover: His encounters with the Greens have slowly caused him to appear more disheveled, with the usual chip in his mouth getting replaced with a titanium tooth, as are the rest of his teeth when they fall out. [[Characters/BigCityGreensChipWhistler
-->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/PaulScheer
The main antagonist of the show; is the head of Wholesome Foods and a rival to the Green Family. Started out as simple and laid-back, but turned against the Greens when he inadvertently ate their fake produce, chipping his tooth. His main goal is to run the Greens out of Big City for good, but his plans are always thwarted, with his tooth being chipped in return.

Early on in Season 2, he takes over as the CEO of Wholesome Foods, having tricked the Greens and his dad into believing he changed so he can come up with new schemes against them. This extends to almost replacing everything on their street with a megastore. As of the third half of the season, he is no longer allowed in Big City. By Season 4, it was revealed Chip survived the crash and was thought to have died, and is now secretly spying on the Greens in disguise while planning even bigger revenge on them and all of Big City under their feet.
----
* AdaptationalHeroism: In the ''Chibi Tiny Tales'' short series, Chip shows no instances of villainy and instead acts as a typical neighbor for the Greens, often showing up as a last-minute participant to receive the final laugh for the short.
* AimlesslySeekingHappiness: After his defeat in season 2, Chip shows that he wishes to simply find a way to be happy. Yet is unable to gain that, even when disguising himself as a normal person, and this goes into a dangerous direction as he realizes that the thing making him happy is his hatred for people and being evil.
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: Chip has orange skin.
* AmusingInjuries: [[KarmicButtMonkey Chip takes tons of physical punishment]] during the series. This also gets deconstructed in "Chipwrecked", because due to this, Cricket and his family consider him a joke.
* ArchEnemy: To the Green Family, particularly Cricket.
* ArcVillain: Of Seasons 2 and 4.
** In Season 2, he seizes control of Wholesome Foods to kick the Greens out of the town, and nearly destroys their home lane, including their house, replacing it with a megastore.
** [[spoiler:In Season 4, he hides out in the sewers when thought to be dead, and plans even bigger revenge against the Greens and all those who supported them.]]
* AwesomeButImpractical: All of his revenge plans are cartoonishly over-the-top, but completely ineffective. Until "Chipwrecked", when Cricket points out that his plans never work, and he changes his strategy to BoringButPractical.
* AxCrazy: [[spoiler:If trying to murder the entire Green Family with a helicopter counts.
He was very close to becoming a murderer]].
* BadBoss: He regularly yells at, abuses, and threatens his {{Mook}}s, Greg and Rose (eventually firing them and replacing them with bouncers), and all of his other employees. It gets worse when he becomes CEO of Wholesome Foods, as his obsession with getting back at the Greens causes him to neglect his duties; when people remind him of the work he's not doing, he whines and says getting revenge on the Greens is more important. Essentially, the company is now under the control of a spoiled little boy. A good example of his treatment towards his employees comes from "Feud Fight" after Tilly and Cricket manage to lure more people by using Tilly's cuteness, Chip yells at his employee disguised as Tomato-san that he's fired and pushes him down:
--->'''Chip Whistler''': Tomato-san, you're fired. (''Chip then kicks him.'')
** Another example comes from "Coffee Quest". During the episode, he mistreats Wholesome Greg, every time he makes a [[CaptainObvious commentary]].
--->'''Wholesome Greg''': I don't think he can hear you. Like, they're already gone.
--->'''Chip Whistler''': SHUT UP, GREG!!!''''
** In "Reckoning Ball", when Greg shows Chip the viral video from "Feud Fight", he breaks his phone:
--->'''Wholesome Greg''': Remember that time you violently pelted that kid with tomatoes?'''
--->'''Chip Whistler''': (in video) What - whaaaaat!! That's right, baby! CHIP! CHIP! CHIP!''''
--->'''Wholesome Greg''': Well, it kinda went viral. And now, no one wants to shop here.'''
--->'''Chip Whistler''': That was taken out of CONTEXT! (Throws the phone to the floor, breaking it)''''
--->'''Wholesome Greg''': Aww, Chip chipped my phone. (Realization) Kind of like your teeth every time you see that kid!'''
** And a bit later, when his employees tell him that his name is now a joke.
--->'''Chip Whistler''': Grrr... YOU'RE ALL FIRED!''''
* BadassBoast: Chip has said some of them:
** In "Feud Fight", after Chip received backlash from the presents due to harming Cricket, a woman wants to buy something from the Green's stand, then Bill asks what happened, and Chip answers he happened:
--->'''Bill Green''': Well, sure! But what the heck happened to 'ya?''''
--->'''Chip Whistler''': Chip happened.''''
--->'''Bill Green''': Chip?''''
--->'''Chip Whistler''': Chip "Your worst NIGHTMARE" Whistler!!!''''
** In "Coffee Quest", after Cricket and Gloria manage to escape from him and cross the bridge full of traffic in time (which Chip couldn't because he was in a van, while Gloria and Cricket were in a narrow sledge), [[SeriesGoal Chip yells them that one day he'll run the Greens out of Big City and that they should mark his words]].
--->'''Chip Whistler''': One of these days, Cricket Green, I'm gonna run your family out of this town. Mark my words: Big City is no place for the Greens!!!''''
* BaitTheDog: In "Reckoning Ball", he seems to apologize to the Greens so they can sign the forgiveness contract and appears to make a HeelFaceTurn, but in the end, it turns out he only manipulated them into furthering his plan to take full control of the company and focus on his revenge against them.
* BeardOfEvil: He has a goatee and is clearly not a legitimate businessman. Subverted when he becomes CEO of Wholesome Foods, where he shaves it off and becomes ''even worse''.
* BerserkButton:
** His teeth getting damaged. In his first appearance, he blames the Green family for him chipping his tooth and swears revenge on them for it.
** Being called a joke.
* BeyondRedemption: [[NeverMyFault He refuses to learn from his mistakes]], [[JerkWithAHeartOfJerk botches any attempt at showing he can be a good person and showing basic decency]], and by this point, he's just a colossal dick [[CardCarryingVillain and proud of it]]. [[EvilIsPetty His hatred for the Greens evolves from a petty wish of making them have a bad day]] [[spoiler: [[MurderIsTheBestSolution to plain murder]]. This is what cements his fate, and we even have yet to find out if his dad saw the whole thing]].
* BigBad: He's basically the closest thing the show has to one, being a recurring antagonist with a grudge against the whole Green family. Season 2 seems to officially set him up as this, going from recurring market rival to complete enemy.
* BlatantLies: In "Reckoning Ball", he claims a video of him pelting Cricket with tomatoes has been "taken out of context".
* BreakoutVillain: Chip began as a haughty businessman, manager of a supermarket, and son of the CEO, that develops hatred and rivalry with the Greens for a little misunderstanding. In season 2, his presence becomes more significant and evolves from an arrogant rival to an actual threat to the Greens and their legacy.
* CardCarryingEvil: Chip ultimately ends up as this in season 4, with failing to find happiness by being a normal person with a normal life, he accepts that being vindictive, petty, and evil is what makes him happy, and he decides to become just that.
* CasanovaWannabe: In "Coffee Quest", when he meets Gloria for the first time, his voice tone changes to a seductive one and he calls her "Ponytail" and starts to flirt with her. As you could expect, Gloria doesn't take his advances very well and kicks him twice for that.
* CharacterDevelopment: If by "development", this means he becomes even viler as the series progresses, unlike Cricket, who becomes more responsible and mature. In season 1, Chip was an incompetent manchild who was more of a bully/annoyance to the Greens than anything, while in season 2, he becomes an actual threat, coming close to ruining the family's good name, [[spoiler: and attempting to straight-up murder them]]. He also becomes more unhinged as the series progresses. Despite this, he still keeps the defect of not thinking before acting.
* TheChewToy: Becomes this in-universe in "Chipwrecked", especially to Cricket. This all changes when he bites back at him in the end.
-->'''Cricket:''' Chip, you're a joke! We all know how this goes: First, you make a goofy little plan, it fails, you chip your tooth... And then I come out on top. ''Bingo-bango.''
* ChildHater: Chip in "Friend Con" mentions that he loves being mean to children, meaning Cricket isn't the first kid he has gotten into a conflict with. [[PickOnSomeoneYourOwnSize That's not counting that basically, his main enemy is Cricket, a kid]]. [[spoiler: In "Chipocalypse Now", after Mayor Hansock bans him from Big City, he tries to murder Cricket with the blades of his helicopter, but he jumped off the roof and was caught safely by Bill.]] He also dislikes the fact his father keeps a picture of him as a baby.
-->'''Chip Whistler''': Good luck getting back in without these! Ah, man... I love being mean to kids.''''
* ChildishToothGap: Whenever his [[RunningGag teeth gets chipped]], [[LaserGuidedKarma which is often]], he has one in his mouth, whenever he speaks a whistling sound is heard. Chip clearly hates that gap between his "perfect" teeth and it is the number #1 reason why he hates the Greens with a passion, since he believes they tarnished his beauty. Also doubles as [[MeaningfulName Meaningful Name]], [[DontExplainTheJoke because his name is Chip Whistler]].
** [[InvertedTrope Inverted]] at the end of "Friend Con", where Chip loses all the teeth in his mouth, but his titanium one, after Grandma Alice falls over him with a bag of goodies.
* CommunityThreateningConstruction: Is a major threat to the Greens' house, as he wants to destroy it beginning in Season 2, and it seems to come into effect as of "Chipwrecked". Note that this is an even bigger threat than [[HistoryRepeats what the house usually goes through every generation.]]
* CopycatMockery: When Cricket tells him he doesn't have a sincere bone in his body due to his pathetic apology, Chip copies him in a mocking way. What makes it funnier, is that [[PsychopathicManchild Chip is an adult]].
-->'''Cricket''': Face it, Chip. You ain't got a sincere bone in your body!''''
-->'''Chip Whistler''': (mocking voice; mimicking Cricket) [[PsychopathicManchild "Sincere bone in your body..."]]''''
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: While Chip Whistler starts out as a farmer who is just opposing the Greens, he eventually takes over his father's role as the CEO of [[BlandNameProduct Wholesome Foods]]. With this position, Chip uses his power to install a Wholesome Foods store right next to and above the Greens' house, running Big Coffee out of business and forcing the people in the apartment complex next to the Greens to move out. Chip then plans to force the Greens themselves to move out, and build a parking lot where their house used to be. Although these plans never come into fruition, he nearly ''[[WouldHurtAChild kills]]'' Cricket. Afterwards, not only does Chip's position get revoked, but [[PersonaNonGrata he gets banned from Big City altogether]].
* CreateYourOwnVillain: Deconstructed. The sole reason he's the Greens' enemy was that he ate their fake produce and chipped his teeth, though that was of his own accord as he outright ignored Cricket's warning not to eat it.
* DidntThinkThisThrough:
** Chip doesn't know that even if he does destroy the Greens' house, this won't technically run them out of Big City, as Bill is shown looking up various city apartments (in their price range) to move to should they fail. Thus said, the Greens will never leave Big City no matter what Chip does, so his victory will be considered a big flaw.
** [[spoiler:During his VillainousBreakdown in "Chipocalypse Now". He tries to kill the Greens by diving at them in his helicopter, completely forgetting about the nearby power lines (which Cricket quickly notices), which catapulted him right out of Big City.]]
* DisproportionateRetribution:
** The whole reason he hates the Greens? He bit into a fake apple, broke his tooth, and blamed them for it, [[NeverMyFault despite the fact that Cricket warned him not to eat it]]. Naturally, Bill predicted that something like this would happen. Overlaps with EvilIsPetty.
** [[spoiler: He tries to change his ways in "Chipped Off", but it doesn't last - he starts to crack when his barista calls him an "extra cool dude" and his boss gives him extra paperwork. He finally goes over the edge by openly wanting to ''kill'' a boy for kicking him in the leg. He now wants vengeance on everyone in Big City for siding with the Greens.]]
* DramaticIrony: His big overarching goal is to drive the Greens out of Big City, but after he's [[spoiler:tossed out in Season 2 as all his plans fell apart]], the Greens end up going back to the country for a fair amount of Season 3 anyway, [[spoiler:even if it isn't permanent.]] After all of this, [[spoiler:we finally see Chip again-- who is still so murderously obsessed with the Greens that he's effectively stuck in a cycle of hate while being ''completely oblivious'' to what could've been a "victory" without even lifting a finger.]]
* DramaticallyMissingThePoint: In "Reckoning Ball", when his father sees the video of him pelting Cricket with tomatoes, after he surrendered (from "Feud Fight"). He asks him what happened to him having used to be a nice kid. Chip answers that said kid became hotter.
-->'''Mr. Whistler''': What happened to you? [[UsedToBeASweetKid What happened to... my boy?]]''''\\
'''Chip Whistler''': Uh... he got way ''hotter.''
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: His first interaction with the Greens in "Supermarket Scandal" begins with him rudely snapping his fingers in Bill's face to get his attention and ends with him wiping his hand off with a handkerchief immediately after he and Bill shake hands and he sees Bill's severed finger.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: One of his biggest flaws. Chip genuinely doesn't understand good and that people actually do things out of kindness. He believes that if someone does something for him, there's an ulterior motive behind it, doesn't matter how kind and selfless it is. The best example is in Season 4 when he is disguised as "Norm Alguy" he believed that his barista calling him a "extra cool dude" (something he called him every other day) was mocking him.
-->'''Chip Whistler''': Oh ho ho. Smart trick, kid. Turning EVERYONE against me. But Chip. Sees. Right. THROUGH YOU.
* EvilCostumeSwitch: After becoming CEO, Chip switches to a business suit, which is predominantly dull grey, and removes his sunglasses. When he finally "gets his act together", he upgrades from a grey suit to a black one.
* EvilCounterpart: To Cricket.
** Both of them are the sons of farmers, but Cricket cares about everyone, especially his friends and family, while Chip [[ItsAllAboutMe only cares about himself]].
** Cricket owns up to his mistakes, while Chip does not.
** Cricket is empathetic with everyone he meets, whereas Chip has a LackOfEmpathy.
** Chip is also basically Cricket's color scheme but reversed; instead of light skin and dark hair, he has dark skin and light hair.
* EvilIsPetty: He got his tooth chipped and himself shamed in his first meeting with the Greens after he tried to play them. He subsequently goes completely out of his way time and time again to ruin their lives and run them out of Big City, being as childishly petty as he could possibly be. For extra effect, the primary target of his hatred [[ChildHater is Cricket]], a literal child that initially tried to help him who he's bullied, harassed and even [[spoiler:attempted to ''murder'']] for feeling so slighted.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: By "Chipwrecked", Chip's hair is no longer slicked back and is instead more messy and matted, to go with his unstableness. He fixes it at the end of the episode, though.
* ExactWords: If the Greens sign the forgiveness contract, Chip can keep his job. However, that didn't mean he would put an end to his hatred for them.
* {{Expy}}: His intentions remind you of a G-Rated version of Russ Cargill from ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsonsMovie''. Both are bad bosses who trick their superiors, [[spoiler:attempt killing a family]], and have their own agenda that threatens a community.
* FakeDefector: Turned out to be this in "Reckoning Ball". He only acted nice and considerate to the Greens to get them to sign the contract that they accept his apology, so he can take his dad's place as CEO and exact his revenge on them without any interference from him now that he's retired.
%%* FalseFriend: With Bill in "Friend Con".
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: If Bill's plan to move to a cheap city apartment (in their price range) is of any indication, not even destroying the Green's house would have gotten them out of the city, meaning that all of Chip's actions would have been for nothing, and the Greens won't leave Big City no matter what. And even if he gets to destroy the apartment building they chose to move to, who's to say they wouldn't just move to another? Or possibly move in with someone they know, like Remy? And even if they did leave the city in that case, Wholesome Foods sure could get some backlash for destroying two apartment buildings and leaving many people homeless. In any case, Chip wouldn't get the happy ending he wants.
* FalselyReformedVillain: Chip pretends to apologize and makes amends with the Greens, which not only results in him taking over Wholesome Foods but also leads to the shutdown of Big Coffee and the battle for Elkins Street. Once Cricket realizes what he had done, he is totally regretful of this.
* FatalFlaw: Chip has some fatal flaws that prevent him from achieving his goals:
** Not thinking before acting. This is what caused his downfall many times. For example, pelting Cricket with food in "Feud Fight", when Cricket had already surrendered, considering that Chip and Cricket were in a public place, this doesn't end well on Chip's behalf. Trying to destroy the Greens' house with a wrecking ball in "Reckoning Ball", which almost causes his father to take the decision of firing him, because he tried to get back at the Greens or the most egregious one: [[spoiler: [[NeverSayDie trying "to get rid of all of the Greens at once"]] with a helicopter in "Chipocalypse Now", not realizing that the electric wires will be in his way -- something Cricket immediately takes notice of prior to facing him down]].
** Impatience: Chip is ''very'' impatient. He wants things done faster than should be, instead of waiting to get things done. This is a major reason why his plans fail. In "Reckoning Ball", Chip expects the Greens to sign his forgiveness contract as fast as they can, despite the deal being that Chip has to repair all the damage he has done. Since he keeps causing more damage and makes poor-quality jobs, you can imagine how this goes. [[spoiler: Another example is in "Chipocalypse Now", Chip was about to win, but he had to wait until the next day to demolish the Greens' house legally, so he could get away with ruining the Greens' legacy. He instead decided to demolish the house that night, right away. As a result, the Big City population sides with the Greens, seeing what Chip is doing unfair and Chip gets himself banned]].
** [[BrilliantButLazy His inability to apply himself and actually do work]]. It's shown that in Season 2, when inheriting Wholesome Foods, Chip can actually be a good businessman with charisma and intelligence. However, Chip shows to be rather focus on flaunting his wealth or getting revenge against the Greens, resulting in him neglecting his business. His villain song in Season 4 shows this, him having high ambitions, one of them being a pilot, before deciding against it for it being "too much work."
* FauxAffablyEvil: He seemed to have changed when apologizing to the Greens for his actions, but in reality, he only pretended to be nice to worm them into believing such so he can take over from his dad.
* {{Foil}}: To Bill. While Bill's an honest, NiceGuy that runs a small farm, Chip is a [[JerkAss jerkass]] head of a supermarket that will resort to underhanded tactics in order to make a profit.
* FreudianSlip: In "Chipwrecked" when he almost reveals his vendetta to his dad.
-->'''Chip:''' Yeah, I've been busy, trying to destroy the Gr -- uh, a -- a work problem! Yeah! Destroy a work problem!
* FromBadToWorse: His and Cricket's longtime feud takes an even bigger term for the worse when Cricket and his family are led to believe he's on better terms so he can take over as CEO, which eventually leads to him taking over Big Coffee and all of Elkins Street, resulting in Cricket and Gloria jobless, and the Greens' longtime legacy is almost ruined.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: He goes from a joke whose attempts at running the Greens out of Big City were ineffectual at best, to a monstrous businessman who nearly destroys the family's legacy [[spoiler: and attempts to murder them]].
* TheGlovesComeOff: In "Chipocalypse Now", it happens twice:
** After Chip realizes that the whole battle in the house is only a distraction when one of his employees tells him about Gloria's betrayal and Remy and Cricket in his office, Chip decides that he's done playing with them.
-->'''Chip''': (To himself) They're gonna find everything... (To the employee) You. You're fired. GOONS! You're with me! (Serious Voice) I'm done playing.''''
** After Remy and Cricket print proof that Chip faked the petitions and Remy successfully tricks Chip's bouncers so Cricket can escape, Chip decides that it's time to finish this.
-->'''Chip''': Cricket. Time to finish this.''''
* HatedByAll: [[PlayingWithATrope Played With]]. As the series progresses, Chip Whistler managed to become loathed by the people of Big City. This began in "Feud Fight," when he pelts Cricket with produce while chanting how he won, disgusting everyone present and causing most of his employees to quit. By "Reckoning Ball," everyone in the city has boycotted Wholesome Foods; with even his remaining employees not respecting him. Come "Chipocalypse Now", [[spoiler: he's banned from Big City]]. That said, his father still cares for him. This is emphasised by [[spoiler:his gravestone in "Long Goodbye", which says that he was a "Beloved Son, Social Pariah", and it's made fairly clear that said headstone was erected solely based on his father's request. The kindly gravedigger who tends to the lot and bids goodnight to the 'residents' refused to deliver the same courtesy towards Chip's apparent resting place, commenting to his dog that Chip may have been "The biggest jerk who ever died", and noted he had to be buried far away from Big City because nobody wanted his body interred there]].
* HateSink: Chip Whistler is a total [[CorruptCorporateExecutive corrupt businessman]] and JerkWithAHeartOfJerk who [[ItsAllAboutMe thinks that everyone else is beneath him]] and is willing to do anything for the sake of power, money, and revenge. He hates the Greens because he ate fake produce that they made ,([[NeverMyFault even though they told him it was fake and not to eat it, but he still refuses to admit his faults]]), he even tries to [[spoiler:''[[WouldHurtAChild kill Cricket]]'']] in "Chipocalypse Now".
* HesBack: [[spoiler:After having been absent for all of season 3 after his defeat, he finally returns at the end of the season finale, revealed to be still be alive and well and plotting his revenge on the Greens]].
* HeelRealization: In "Chipped Off", he briefly leads a normal life under a new name and winds up having a breakdown, realizing that the real him is a vengeful, villainous monster whose only joy comes from seeing the Greens suffer... and that he ''loves it''.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:In "Chipocalypse Now". If he had been patient and waited for midnight, when he could legally demolish the farm, things wouldn't have gone so sour (as Bill was intending to throw in the towel and leave by then). By trying to rush the demolition, he set in motion a conflict that drew the attention of the local news, broadcasting it to all of Big City. Many Big City citizens then showed up at the farm, confirming to the mayor that the "petition" Chip claimed they signed was fake, causing Chip's whole plan to unravel.]]
* ImYourWorstNightmare: In "Feud Fight", he calls himself "Chip "Your Worst Nightmare" Whistler".
* InkSuitActor: Like his actor, Paul Scheer, Chip
has his trademark gap between his teeth (although mostly because he chips it every time he interacts with Cricket and his friends and family).
* InsigniaRipOffRitual: In "Friend Con" when Bill realizes Chip was only being a FalseFriend and announces the end of their friendship, he takes his hat off Chip's head.
-->'''Bill:''' Chip, I'm afraid after this, we can't be friendly anymore.
* IronButtMonkey: As mentioned before, Chip takes tons of physical punishment that are commonly treated as a comedy, with only [[RunningGag his teeth/dentures being chipped]]. Due to this, the Greens quickly dismiss Chip as a joke, by the point of "Chipwrecked", until he takes over Big Coffee.
* {{Irony}}: Despite wanting to run the Greens out of Big City, [[spoiler:Chip ends up running ''himself'' out]].
* IrrationalHatred: He hates the Greens with a passion all because of a misunderstanding [[NeverMyFault that was entirely his fault]]. The Greens are normally just minding their business when Chip decides to try to ruin their day.
* ItsAllAboutMe: He doesn't care if his convoluted plans hinder Wholesome Foods' profits and reputation as long as he gets revenge on the Greens.
* {{Jerkass}}: He's a cruel, narcissistic person who treats everyone like garbage, even his
own page.]]father. He always acts condescendingly towards the Greens and wants to run them out of town because of an honest mistake. Even when Cricket tries to call a truce in "Feud Fight", he uses it as an opportunity to assault Cricket with tomatoes.
-->'''Chip''': Haha! Sucker. Chip doesn't settle! What - whaaaaat!! That's right, baby! CHIP! CHIP! CHIP! Ch... Come on, everybody, why aren't you chanting?\\
'''Wholesome Foods Employee''': You just DECIMATED an unarmed child!
* JerkassToOne: He's especially contemptuous of the Greens, to the point of obsession. And of them, Cricket (a little kid) is the one he has the biggest vendetta against. In "Chipocalypse Now" it's shown his computer password is based on his hate for the guy.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Every time he's given a chance to show ''some'' level of basic decency, he cruelly rejects it. When Cricket tries to call a truce in "Feud Fight," he uses it as an opportunity to pelt him with tomatoes. And in "Reckoning Ball", when Mr. Whistler gives his son the chance to prove he's sorry for what he did to Cricket and his family, Chip uses this to take his father's place as CEO and come up with some bigger plans to run the Greens out of Big City.
* KarmicButtMonkey: Chip's dickishness always comes back to bite him and he's often, if not always, subject to some sort of injury or humiliation at the end of any episode he appears in, [[RunningGag which usually causes his tooth to get chipped]]. His pelting Cricket with produce, after he already surrendered, in "Feud Fight" leads to most of the Wholesome Foods employees quitting and most everyone boycotting the company. In "Reckoning Ball", he's forced to repair the Greens' roof after he damaged it. When Chip's laziness ends up destroying the house more, he has to repair those damages too. [[spoiler:After ''everything'' he did to the Greens and for almost ruining their legacy and attempting to ''kill'' them too, Chip is banned from Big City forever.]]
* LackOfEmpathy: Chip has no problem betraying the trust of those around him, including his own father.
* LaughablyEvil: Despite all of his wrongdoings, Chip still manages to be an entertaining villain.
* LethallyStupid: In "Coffee Quest", he offhandedly mentions that his latest replacement tooth is made from a "very toxic" polymer, but considers it "WorthIt".
* LikeFatherUnlikeSon: "Reckoning Ball" reveals that Chip's father is a humble SelfMadeMan, a far cry from his spoiled, arrogant son.
* MadnessMakeover: His encounters with the Greens have slowly caused him to appear more disheveled, with the usual chip in his mouth getting replaced with a titanium tooth, as are the rest of his teeth when they fall out. He also starts growing chin hair and his hair becomes wild and matted. Subverted once he "gets his act together", he wears a black suit, gives himself a shave, and smooths out his hair.
* ManipulativeBastard: Becomes one in "Reckoning Ball", when he worms his way into the Greens' kindness and makes them believe he changed so he can take his dad's place.
* MaskOfSanity: Chip is clearly an unstable man, but he's able to hide it by acting like a smooth businessman.
** At the end of "Reckoning Ball" and during "Friend Con", Chip is able to keep his sanity, acting like a good guy, but his tendencies to ruin the Greens are still there.
** After getting his act together in "Chipwrecked", Chip once again acts like a suave, smooth businessman, [[spoiler:that's until he's banned from Big City in "Chipocalypse Now"]].
* MeaningfulName: Not initially, but his name becomes this after he chips his tooth at the end of "Supermarket Scandal", which causes him to whistle unintentionally through it whenever he talks. This is even lampshaded at the end of the episode.
* MissingMom: Though we did meet Chip's dad, his mom has yet to be seen or mentioned, aside from a brief offhand mention from Cricket in "Feud Fight". According to Chris Houghton, she's passed away.
* MurderIsTheBestSolution: [[spoiler:After being banned from Big City by Mayor Hansock, he tries to "Get rid of all of the Greens at once", by flying his helicopter into them all]].
* {{Narcissist}}: Chip Whistler really considers himself a very handsome man. As an entrepreneur, appearances are everything to him, and he wants people to look at him as the embodiment of success. So when he breaks his tooth after taking a bite of the fake apple, he quickly blames the Greens for what happened to him.
-->'''Chip''': That's right, green beans! It's me, Chip Whistler. Manager of Wholesome Foods grocery store, and modern renaissance man.
** Not only that, but Chip is quick to judge others for their appearances. Case in point, in his first episode, he not only makes a look of disgust when he sees Bill's severed finger but when they shake hands, he wipes his hands immediately afterward like he touched something dirty. He doesn't even bother to hide his disgust at Bill's finger in the episode "Reckoning Ball".
** In [[spoiler:"Long Goodbye", Chip visits his own headstone to leave mourning flowers for it, apparently in his own memory, and the gravedigger's comments make it clear that nobody else would bother to remember Chip fondly]].
* NearVillainVictory: He comes this close to taking over Elkins Street and destroying the Greens' beloved home. Had Cricket not realized the destruction petition was fake, and if all of Big City didn't show up to help them, Chip would've won.
* NeverMyFault:
** He blames the Greens for him biting into the fake apple that chipped his tooth, despite the fact that Cricket warned him not to, but he didn't listen.
-->'''Chip''': (After ignoring Cricket's warning on the fake produce, which chipped his tooth) I cannot believe this! Okay!?! Look what your awful food did to my perfect face! Okay!?! I'm gonna get you for this, Greens or my name isn't Chip Whistler!
** At the end of "Feud Fight", he blames Cricket for turning his employees and the rest of the food market against him, ignoring the fact that they abandoned him out of disgust after he pelted Cricket with tomatoes (while Cricket was calling for a truce, no less).
* NeverSayDie: He obviously tries to ''kill'' the Greens in the climax of "Chipocalypse Now", but he never says the word.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: [[spoiler: Chip ended up doing this twice:]]
** [[spoiler: By trying to rush the demolition of the farm (he can't legally demolish it until midnight), he called the attention of the citizens of Big City, among them the friends that the Green family has made until this point, who realized what Chip was doing is unfair and defended the Green family, confirming the Mayor that Chip faked the petitions]].
** [[spoiler:And as if taking over Big Coffee and destroying it weren't enough, once his plans were foiled, and the street returned to normal, Gloria moved in with the Greens and eventually gave them the idea to advertise their produce on social media, which in turn saves their business and made them even more popular than ever.]]
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: For the first season and a half, Chip Whistler always managed to get out-done by the Greens. No matter how much he tried, and no matter what he did, it would almost inevitably end in him [[RunningGag chipping his tooth]]. It's gotten to the point that, by the time that "Chipwrecked" comes around, the Greens have completely stopped taking Chip seriously, and know that he'll [[HoistByHisOwnPetard inevitably defeat himself]]. This comes to bite them in the back ''big time'', as Chip uses his power as a CorruptCorporateExecutive to shut down Big Coffee and kick the people out of the apartment complex next to the Greens' house so that he can build a Wholesome Foods store to block the Greens' house from sunlight. Chip them nearly kicks the Greens out of their home by planning to build a parking lot in the area that it occupies. Even after Chip's plan to run the Greens out town fails, he still tries to ''[[WouldHurtAChild kill]]'' Cricket out of spite. It's no wonder that it all ends in [[PersonaNonGrata him getting banned from Big City altogether]].
* PersonaNonGrata: [[spoiler: His ultimate comeuppance for faking signatures and trying to drive the Greens from Big City. That's not counting trying to kill them, which would've gotten him into even more trouble. In "Chipocalypse Now", the mayor bans him forever from Big City. His apparent body had to be buried in a small cemetery far outside the city limits because of of this, and his reputation is so rotten the the gravedigger who tends to the place refuses to bid his headstone goodnight like he does to the others]].
* PickOnSomeoneYourOwnSize: Chip is a middle-aged adult whose main enemy is a kid? Check. Despite Chip Whistler's hatred for the Green family with passion, he hates Cricket Green the most, and almost all of his hatred is aimed at Cricket. Because... that's very reasonable.
-->'''Wholesome Foods' Former Employee''': You just DECIMATED an unarmed child!
* PsychopathicManchild: The guy acts less like an adult and more like a whiney child who complains whenever things don't go his way. His hatred for the Greens (especially Cricket) makes him even worse.
** Case in point: in "Reckoning Ball", when his father tells him he's fired, he falls to the floor and starts banging his fists and kicking his feet, all the while crying and begging his father not to fire him like a spoiled child who just got grounded.
* PyrrhicVictory:
** At the end of "Reckoning Ball", he tricks the Greens and his dad into thinking he changed his ways, and gets to take his dad's place as CEO of Wholesome Foods, granting him greater resources to use against the Greens... but this does nothing to erase the bad press his actions brought the company, with many people still boycotting their stores.
** As if trying to run the Greens out of the city weren't enough, Chip doesn't know that destroying their beloved farm home won't technically get them to leave, as Bill is shown looking up various city apartments (in the family's price range) to move to in case Chip wins. In that case, Chip's goal is just a wasted effort.
* RedemptionRejection: [[spoiler: "Chipped Off" reveals that he had a chance to be happy as Norm Alguy with a steady job and a girlfriend, [[BecomingTheMask even forgetting that he was really Chip for a bit]], but after Chip started bubbling back to the surface, he threw it all away to go back to his vendetta against the Greens.]]
* ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated: [[spoiler:The stinger of "Long Goodbye" reveals that he managed to fake his death after being flung out of Big City by helicopter, and is still planning revenge on the Greens.]]
* {{Revenge}}: After being on the receiving end of Cricket mocking him and being called a joke for far too long, Chip bites right back at Cricket by: preventing him from attacking, firing him and Gloria, seizing control of Big Coffee, and plots the destruction of the Green house.
* RunningGag: He gets his tooth chipped at the end of nearly every episode he appears in. In the case of "Reckoning Ball", he chips it near the ''beginning'' and has that appearance until the end.
** [[InvertedTrope Inverted]] in "Friend Con", where he loses every tooth in his upper jaw but his titanium tooth.
* SanitySlippage: As the series progresses he slowly loses it.
** In "Reckoning Ball", he tries to destroy the house of the Greens with a wrecking ball, but is stopped by Keys. Later [[VillainousBreakdown he flips out]] when he fails in fixing the house of the Greens, causing Bill to add more chores to the list and starts to destroy the house of the Greens intentionally until he's stopped by Alice.
** In "Chipwrecked", after the events of "Friend Con", Chip gets more unhinged trying to run the Greens out of Big City, especially when Cricket begins treating him like a joke, [[VillainousBreakdown after getting his indestructible tooth chipped, he loses it]].
** [[spoiler: In "Chipocalypse Now", [[VillainousBreakdown Chip loses it]], [[PersonaNonGrata when Mayor Hansock bans him from Big City forever]], [[MurderIsTheBestSolution so much so he tries to murder the Greens with his helicopter]]]].
** [[spoiler: In "Chipped Off", he tries to move past his failure by constructing a completely new persona called "Norm Alguy", which becomes his dominant personality to the point he forgets what his old name was, but after a while his facade begins to crack, and an encounter with [[IdenticalStranger a family that uncannily resembles the Greens]] leads to his old Chip Whistler personality beginning to reassert itself to the point where "Norm" begins [[TheManInTheMirrorTalksBack holding conversations with it in the mirror]]. Eventually the Chip personality once again becomes dominant and he resumes plotting against the Greens and Big City as a whole while lurking in the sewers directly beneath the Green home.]]
* ScarsAreForever: [[spoiler:Has a permanent scar across his right eye following his hiding out in the sewers, due to an unknown incident with a sewer rat.]]
* TheScapegoat: In his wicked mind, the Greens essentially had become this. He always blames them for his own faults and believes that if he runs them out of Big City, he'll be happy.
* SevenDeadlySins: Chip is basically an example of all seven beats:
** Lust: He only cares about himself and his job to the point he wants everyone to obey him. He also tried to flirt with Gloria, much to her disgust.
** Sloth: He basically uses all his time as CEO to focus on the Greens and not his usual CEO duties.
** Wrath: He hates the Greens, and Cricket most of all, to the point he wants them out of town for good. [[spoiler: Then when he gets banned from Big City, he outright tries to murder them.]]
** Envy: Not only does he hate the Green family, but he's also jealous of their admiration and produce.
** Greed: Basically, he cares for three things: his appearance, money, and power. He's only willing to get money to the point that's the only thing he enjoys more. He's also willing to fake kindness to get power, as he did with his father.
** Pride: All he cares about is himself and the money he earns. He also loves the power of his position as a boss.
** Gluttony: Downplayed. Though not a VillainousGlutton himself, he tried to ruin the Greens' produce by biting into them. This [[AccidentalPun bites]] him on the butt when he eats sultan peppers, mistaking them for tomatoes.
* SeriesGoal: Get the Greens to leave Big City forever so he can live his life without problems.
-->'''Chip Whistler''': One of these days, Cricket Green, I'm gonna run your family out of this town. Mark my words: Big City is no place for the Greens!!!''''
* ShadowArchetype:
** He's essentially a more successful Gloria. Both are ambitious, took their families for granted, and developed animosity toward Cricket. However, while Chip boasts a big name, he lacks any of Gloria's redeeming qualities, such as being willing to recognize Cricket for ''his'' redeeming qualities.
** On that note, he's also what Cricket himself could've been if he didn't have any CharacterDevelopment nor true love for his family.
* ShaggyDogStory: His goal of running the Greens out of Big City ends up being this as they eventually leave the city and return to the country on their own. [[spoiler:Though, "Long Goodbye" has them realize that they don't ''want'' to live the rest of their lives in the country forever, after all the good times and friends they've made in Big City and instead choose to move between their old country home and Grandma's house to live the best of both worlds. Fittingly, it's at this point that Chip reveals himself to still be alive and plotting further revenge against them]].
* ShamedByAMob: Refusing Cricket's truce (thinking he's forfeiting the war) and attacking him with tomatoes is what causes everyone at the Farmer's Market to backlash him and result in Wholesome Foods losing population, to the point of losing some of his workers too.
* SlasherSmile: He wears one when attempting to destroy the Green family's house in "Reckoning Ball" and in "Chipocalypse Now", when he [[spoiler:attempts to shred the Greens with his helicopter.]]
* SoreLoser: He really hates losing and never takes defeat well. This is despite the fact that the Greens aren't really interested in competing with him.
** In "Feud Fight", when everyone turns against him, he decides that if he's not going to sell anything today, then the Greens won't either and proceeds to eat their produce so they can't sell it.
** This is what kickstarts the plot of "Reckoning Ball", Chip still receives the backlash from "Feud Fight" (that was uploaded worldwide) and decides to run them out of Big City by himself by wrecking their home with a demolition ball. Keys, who happened to be patrolling at the time, steps right in front of the family and protects them, causing Chip to miss and hit part of the roof instead.
** In "Chipwrecked", he grows more unstable after his failed attempts to rid the Greens from Big City and when Cricket no longer takes him seriously and calls him a joke. [[VillainousBreakdown He completely loses it when]] in his latest plan, he suffers a HumiliationConga.
** [[spoiler: In "Chipocalypse Now", after the citizens of Big City defend the Greens and Mayor Hansock bans him from Big City forever, Chip responds by attempting to kill the whole family (and by extension, all the citizens) with his helicopter.]]
** [[spoiler:In "Long Goodbye", despite his reputation being in tatters and presumed dead, not to mentioned banned from Big City forever, whilst the Greens are more successful and connected than ever, Chip is still plotting a comeback and revenge against them, despite having the chance for a fresh start elsewhere]].
* TakingAdvantageOfGenerosity: In "Reckoning Ball", he takes advantage of the kindness of the Green family to become the CEO, in "Chipwrecked" when he gloats, he thanks Cricket for allowing him to become the CEO, something that Cricket regrets. Gloria calls out to him that Chip became dangerous thanks to Cricket in "Chipocalypse Now".
* TakingYouWithMe: [[spoiler: After being banned from Big City forever by Mayor Hansock and being fired from Wholesome Foods, Chip decided he had nothing else to lose and tries to murder Cricket and the Green Family (and by extension, everyone who stuck up for them) by flying his helicopter straight towards them.]]
* TheSociopath: He's a petty jackass who's willing to ruin the Greens' lives all over a chipped tooth. This does and at the same time doesn't make him a legitimate threat, since he's clearly willing to do whatever it takes to further his own goals regardless of who gets hurt, but his shortsightedness ultimately does him in like with real-life sociopaths. Season 4 keeps this going, with Chip revealed to have been
* ThenLetMeBeEvil: [[spoiler: After trying to become a normal person within Big City, he ends up deciding that being evil and vengeful was much more fulfilling and decides to continue to try and ruin the Greens lives, including all of the people who wronged him.]]
* TomTheDarkLord: A villainous CorruptCorporateExecutive, simply named "Chip Whistler".
* TookALevelInJerkass: Chip was already a spoiled {{manchild}}, but his behavior would get worse following "Feud Fight", with his acts of running the Green family from Big City evolve from petty schemes to [[spoiler: outright attempted murder, which is outright illegal according to Keys]].
* TheToothHurts: Whenever his tooth gets chipped, following his plans being thwarted. In fact, this trope is what started his feud with the Greens in the first place.
* {{Trumplica}}: An unintentional example. Chris Houghton never meant he looked like Donald Trump, but the parallels are there: Chip has orange skin and bouffant yellow hair, is an arrogant businessman that behaves like a whiney baby, runs a conglomerate, and is heck-bent on proving he's better than everyone else.
* ATwinkleInTheSky: [[spoiler: He ends up "blasting-off again" when his helicopter gets stuck in some wires and gets flung to the sky at the end of "Chipocalypse Now". "Long Goodbye" reveals he survived, but took the opportunity to fake his death.]]
* UnknownRival:
** Despite declaring himself the nemesis of the Green Family, Bill doesn't really pay him any mind.
** And since "Reckoning Ball", the Greens are completely unaware that they secretly helped Chip further his revenge against him and that the apology was a trick. Only Gramma showed shades of not believing him when he said he was sorry. Also, his father has yet to find out he's still evil.
** [[spoiler:Averted as of "Friend Con" once the Greens discover the truth about Chip, and are now fully aware he's committed to ruining them.]]
* UncertainDoom: [[spoiler: After being flung to the sky at the end of "Chipocalypse Now", it's unknown where he landed or even if he survived being flung to the sky [[IronButtMonkey (which is likely that he survived, because he survived worse than that)]]. Take into consideration that he was also banned from Big City and fired from Wholesome Foods and for this, he can't come back. So only time will tell us where he landed and what he's doing. His whereabouts were revealed at the end of Season 3 in a cemetery on the outskirts of Big City, where he's still plotting revenge against the Greens.]]
* UnsportsmanlikeGloating: If he wins, expect him to behave like this.
** In "Feud Fight", when Cricket attempts to call for a truce and offers Chip his friendship, Chip instead assumes he's forfeiting the fight and keeps pelting him with more produce while chanting his name. [[DeconstructedTrope Deconstructed]] in the same episode, since the public present was so disgusted that it gave Wholesome Foods serious backlash and most of his employees quit. By "Reckoning Ball" he still suffers the consequences of his actions, since many people recorded it with their cellphones and uploaded them worldwide.
** In "Chipwrecked", after bribing Ms. Cho and buying Big Coffee, he fires both Gloria and Cricket. Then he smugly asks Cricket, "Who's a joke now?", while saying that Wholesome Foods needs more space. In "Chipocalypse Now", he's still gloating about his previous victory and keeps rubbing it in the face of the Greens.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: [[DiscussedTrope If we take the word of his father]]. Chip, as a child, used to be a nice kid, but not knowing the value of hard work and growing up in an environment where he always got his way, clearly changed him for the worse.
* VileVillainSaccharineShow: While he's still comedic, [[FromNobodyToNightmare Chip would become more ruthless]] as the show went on, culminating in him [[spoiler:trying to murder the Green Family]] in "Chipocalypse Now".
* VillainEpisode: "Reckoning Ball" focuses largely on [[PsychopathicManchild him]]. "Chopped off" also focuses on him.
* VillainSong: "Happy" has Chip talk about how unhappy he is and wants to be, before deciding to try and be a normal person. Doesn't work well.
* VillainousBreakdown: He suffers from this several times in the show:
** In "Reckoning Ball", we have his first breakdown, after failing to fix the house of the Greens and causing more destruction, Bill keeps adding chores to the list, eventually Chip snaps and decides to destroy the house intentionally and attempts to run over the garden with the tractor.
** The second one happens in "Chipwrecked". After he gets a chip in one of his indestructible titanium teeth, Chip is reduced to unstably screaming.
** [[spoiler:His biggest one is in "Chipocalypse Now" after his true colors are shown and he's promptly fired from Wholesome Foods ''and'' banned from living in Big City. After becoming completely unstable, he tries to kill the Greens with a helicopter, only to come up just an inch short and get slung ''far'' away]].
* VillainousCrush: In "Coffee Quest", he has a crush on Gloria, flirting with her and trying to get her to quit her job and work for him. He hired her in "Chipocalypse", so he might still like her.
* WeCanRuleTogether: Zigzagged. In "Coffee Quest", he tries to persuade Gloria to leave Cricket behind and join him to work in Wholesome Foods, but she rejects the deal, declaring she's not a city girl, but from the ''suburbs,'' and cements it by kicking him in his mouth (and chipping his tooth in the process). [[spoiler: Ironically, Gloria ends up working in Wholesome Foods during "Chipocalypse Now", but ultimately her friendship with Cricket allows her to quit and help him to defeat Chip]].
* WeWillMeetAgain: He says this every time he's defeated by the Greens and vows payback for such.
-->'''Bill''': Chip, I'm afraid as of today, we can't be friendly anymore.\\
'''Chip Whistler''': (After his attempt at ruining Bill's speech was foiled) Tch. Like I care. Watch your back, Bill Green, 'cause I'll get you all sooner or later. WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT -- (Gramma Alice falls over him with her bag of swag) AUGH!!''''
* WhamShot: Thought Chip was gone [[spoiler:and presumed dead]] after Season 2? [[spoiler:Then look no further than the final scene of the Season 3 finale, where he's very well alive and ready for vengeance.]]
* WingdingEyes: [[spoiler:After completely flipping out, his eyes turn into white and red spirals.]]
* WhosLaughingNow: In "Chipwrecked", Cricket calls him a joke. Later, when he buys Big Coffee and plans on demolishing the Greens' farmhouse to expand his business, he smugly asks Cricket, "Who's a joke, ''now?''"
* WouldHarmASenior: Since Alice is the matriarch of the Green family, Chip has no qualms about hurting her too, especially since she's part of the family he hates with a passion. [[spoiler: In "Chipocalypse Now", he tries to murder her, alongside Cricket, Tilly, Bill, and Nancy during his VillainousBreakdown]].
* WouldHurtAChild: Goes to various lengths against Cricket that extend to even attacking him and beating him up. "Friend Con" even states he ''loves'' being mean to kids. [[spoiler: In "Chipocalypse Now", he tries to murder Cricket by attempting to shred him with the blades of his helicopter and when he jumps off the roof he follows him, still trying to shred him (the only reason Cricket was spared that time was he weighed down the banner and swung out). Then he tries to murder him and Tilly when he wants to kill off all the Greens at once, all of that during his VillainousBreakdown, just before Cricket immediately saw his FatalFlaw]].
* WoundedGazelleGambit: [[KickTheDog Uses this against Nancy Green, to trick Officer Keys into arresting her when she steals his pad and knocks several statues over him]].
-->'''Chip Whistler''': Officer, that woman assaulted me! (Points to Nancy and grins evilly at her)
