* EarlyBirdCameo: Invoked. [[spoiler:In the ED of the anime's second season, a kingly figure is seen feeding three girls the flesh of a dead individual. It's speculated that this king is the First King, and the three girls are Maria, Rose and Sina, from whom the Three Walls are named after; though it has not been outright stated, it's assumed that the three girls might be the either King's daughters, or members of the Reiss family]].

* MadeOfPlasticine: As Played with. High-explosive ordinance and blades made of super-hardened steel rip right through Titans, as noted by Hange.Hange. However, most other weapons are ineffective at damaging them; small arms fire only works to slow them down by aiming for their eyes, and as Sasha found out, several strong swings with an axe barely even dents their weak spot.

** As revealed in later chapters, [[spoiler:as long as there's Eldians around, Ymir's Nine Titan Powers will always have a holder because there's ethereal pathways that these take even when the holder dies. The most surefire way to avoid it landing in a random person is for a Titanized potential holder to devour the previous holder. This is one of the reasons the Kingdom of Marley wants to exterminate the Eldians in Paradis Island because they're not under their control]].

This takes such an enormous physical toll in the holders that [[spoiler:they cannot live past 13 years after receiving it regardless of whether they use it, an aspect known as "Ymir's Curse"]].

The first Titan seen in the series, as well as the [[spoiler: second]] largest seen thus far, with an estimated height of 60 meters (200 feet). It puts into motion the events of the story by breaking through Wall Maria, allowing an invasion of Titans into human territory for the first time in a century.

A strange, ape-like Titan first seen within Wall Rose. It quickly leads multiple attacks upon the Survey Corps, showing incredible intelligence and the ability to speak the human tongue fluently. It transformed the people of Ragako into Titans, and locating it was part of the Titan Shifters' mission within human territory. Stated to be "testing" mankind's strength, it vanished beyond Wall Maria after stealing military equipment to study. [[spoiler:He's been revealed as Grisha's first son from long before he met Eren's mother.]]

*FatBastard: The anime emphasizes it having a potbelly, it noticeably shakes with each step the Beast Titan takes when shown from a side angle.

* DatedHistory: In-universe: Marley's history books state that the Eldian royal family in Paradis Island still has two Titan powers in their control, given that the seven Titan powers under Marleyan control have been revealed and the Attack Titan is not among them and Eren Kruger, who was a previous holder of that Titan power, mentioned that his family were loyalists who attempted to resist Marley, it is reasonable to say that both factions are not quite right over who has control over the Titan powers.

* ArtisticLicenseBiology: Aside from the general idea of Titans being ludicrous to the extreme, the Colossal Titan actually [[AvertedTrope averts]] some key anatomical problems regarding the SquareCubeLaw. Due to its immense size, its head and arms are quite spindly to cut down on extra mass while it's torso and legs are astonishingly massive proportionally to the rest of its body in order to provide the necessary support for its frame. It's feet are also more akin to an elephant's, with its toes curled inward and the feet being much more circular and padded than regular human feet to provide a proper foundation for it to stand on.
