* AmbiguousDisorder: There is ''something'' off about him.him and Karma lampshades this.

* CorneredRattlesnake: Nagisa is forced to fight Karma after the latter disagrees with his suggestion [[spoiler:to save Koro-sensei instead of killing him]] and provokes him into defending himself if he feels so wronged. Karma is naturally stronger than him that it takes two students to hold him back, but once the actual [[spoiler:Civil War games]] begin, the two fight with anti-Sensei knives and [[spoiler:Nagisa manages to win after holding out against Karma for a good while.]]

And just [[https://read.mangadad.com/Mangadad/assassination-classroom/chapter-65/13.jpg look at his happy face]] while engaged in real combat with an adult assassin! Koro-sensei notes that Karma prefers fighting opponents all-out, over executing a covert assassination.

* JerkassBall: Karma isn't necessarily mean to his friends (as he's more of a BullyHunter) but he takes this role in episode 17 of season 2. When Nagisa suggests [[spoiler:saving Koro-sensei instead of killing him]] and later, denies being a good assassin and says that Karma is better than him, Karma snaps. As he's against Nagisa's idea, he states that Nagisa comes off as arrogant because of this "thoughtless" suggestion. He then makes fun of his [[TinySchoolboy small physique]], calls him stupid, and repeatedly shoves him to [[HitMeDammit provoke him]]. This fierce clash in opinions is what kickstarts [[spoiler:the Civil War games arc]].

Karma admits that [[spoiler:Nagisa's natural killing talent scared him so much he's had to suppress the urge to beat Nagisa up in pre-emptive self-defense]], which he couldn't bring himself to actually do when the playing field was obviously unbalanced. When the [[spoiler:Civil War Game]] ends up giving him an actual opportunity to do so, [[FamilyUnfriendlyViolence he does ''not'' hold back]], and the manic grin he has on for the majority of the fight is borderline disturbing.

* TakesTenToHold: When Nagisa and Karma were brawling at one point and their classmates had to break them up. It took only one person to effortlessly restrain Nagisa, who has a tiny physique, while Karma had to be held back by two students who had a hard time doing so due to his strength.

* WeaponOfChoice: Although he can use other weapons like knives and guns, [[HeroesFightBarehanded Hand-to-hand combat]] is his preferred fighting technique and the one he's most skilled at. Plus, [[ArrogantKungFuGuy Karma says he doesn't need one]], when Grip, the assassin that Karma has to get past, tells him to bring a better weapon.
* XanatosGambit: Tries this to kill Korosensei. The plan goes that he will jump off a cliff holding an anti-Sensei gun, so when Korosensei goes to save him, he will kill his teacher. However, he still wins if Korosensei either doesn't try to save him, or evades the shot, as Karma will still die and Korosensei will have failed as a teacher. Korosensei, then, manages to save him by forming a web out of his tentacles and covering them with adhesive mucus to restrain Karma from shooting him.

Taken UpToEleven when the teacher's face starts withering away slowly, till he's nothing but a talking skull in Karma's memories and then he concludes that the teacher is dead to him. Mild-mannered, cautious and relatively weak (not to mention rather effeminate), he prefers to observe and collect data on Koro-sensei's weaknesses rather than participate in assassination attempts. Despite that, or perhaps because of it, he is considered to be one of the best assassins-in-training in the class.

Because of this, [[spoiler:she attempts suicide to get revenge for her sister, nearly murders an innocent man, doesn't anticipate Nagisa's "counterattack" (or the fact that it would work ''because'' she felt deeply for him), and later has a HeroicBSOD when [[http://mach20.org/slide/read/assassination_classroom/en/0/142/page/8 her emotions conflict]] with one another. * StealthMentor: Many times, Koro-sensei's lessons have multiple reasons behind them, always working to help his students grow as assassins and people.

* * DavidVersusGoliath: His fight with [[spoiler:Takaoka]] is one.

* HonorThyAbuser: After it's shown how obsessive and abusive Nagisa's mother was towards him, their subplot ends with Nagisa forgiving her and her being a KarmaHoudini.

* TakesTenToHold: When Nagisa and Karma were brawling at one point and their classmates had to break them up. It took only one person to effortlessly restrain Nagisa, who has a tiny physique, while Karma had to be held back by five students who had a hard time doing so due to his strength.

* JerkassBall: Karma isn't necesairly mean to his friends (as he's more of a BullyHunter) but he takes this role in episode 17 of season 2. When Nagisa suggests [[spoiler:saving Koro-sensei instead of killing him]] and later, denies being a good assassain and that Karma is better, Karma snaps. Since he's against the idea, he states that Nagisa comes off as arrogant because of his "thoughtless" suggestion. He also makes fun of his [[TinySchoolboy small physique]] calls him stupid, and pushes him back repeatedly while [[HitMeDammit provoking him]]. Their clash in opinions kickstarts the Civil War games arc.

->''"Let's have an assassination that will make people smile and puff out their chests with pride. Each and every one of you can do that. You are talented assassins with hidden strength. That is advice from your sensei, as a target."''

A mysterious octopus-like creature who was responsible for obliterating 70% of the Moon, leaving it a permanent crescent and also currently plans to destroy Earth after teaching the class for a year, and the homeroom teacher of Class 3-E of Kunugigaoka Junior High School.
----
* AbusiveParents: Of the emotional neglect variety. While he was "fair but firm" to his disciple as he raised him, Koro-sensei never once "looked at him", according to Aguri. To which his disciple realizes that he's nothing but a tool to his mentor, leading to his betrayal of him.
* TheAce: Not only is he an amazing teacher, but with his powers, he can flawlessly perform pretty much any task in flying colors, even the most implausible ones. [[spoiler:The yearbooks and personal guides he whipped up for his students before his death showcase this way better than words can.]]
* AffablyEvil: For a being who wants to destroy the world, Koro-sensei doesn't act like it. [[spoiler:Back when he was the original "Reaper", he was really polite and charming for a master assassin.]]
* AnimalMotif: The octopus. Like the animal, Koro-Sensei has several tentacles. He can also change his skin colour at will, which he uses both for communication and for camouflage.
* ArmorPiercingSlap: In Chapter 95 / Season 2 Episode 6 he slaps the entire class not only because they injured Matsukata during a LeParkour practice, but because they also tried to deflect responsibility. Karasuma does not report his action and pretends that nothing happened, even blaming himself for prematurely teaching them the skills without teaching them their responsibilities.
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:For both his failure to protect Aguri, his past as a professional hitman, and his inability to properly guide his apprentice, who betrayed him to the government and assumed his "Reaper" persona, Koro-sensei has decided to spend his last days teaching her students at Class 3-E to honor her dying wish of helping them become better persons, even as he takes to heart her lessons about what it means to love and look after someone.]]
* BadassAdorable: He is so friendly, goofy and kind and often joins his students in their antics. Also no military in the world can kill this guy who also used to be the [[spoiler:[[WorldsBestWarrior world's greatest assassin]]]].
* BadassBookworm: Along with being a very knowledgeable educator, he makes quite a few nods to ''Shonen Jump'', including wearing a [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Leaf Village headband]] one time, and firing a giant slingshot using the [[Manga/OnePiece Gum Gum Slingshot]].
* BadassInANiceSuit: When he and [[spoiler:his disciple (the current "Reaper") did an infiltration mission -- and was subsequently betrayed by the latter.]]
* BadassTeacher: Koro-sensei is an extremely competent and protective teacher, who uses his inhuman abilities to teach and protect his charges. Trying to harm his students is an unwise move. [[spoiler: In the past he was this to the current Reaper/God of Death, although Koro sensei only viewed him as a tool to expand his own successes.]]
* BadLiar: He's bad at covering up his weaknesses. While this may be partially intentional, [[spoiler:it's also because as he became more of a tentacle monster he lost a great deal of his emotional control.]]
* BashBrothers: Together with Karasuma-sensei in the tag game.
--> "The strongest creature and the strongest human. [[ItMakesSenseInContext They're coming to attack us to give us more homework!!]]"
* BeautyToBeast: Was quite attractive when [[spoiler:he was still a human.]]
* BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil: [[spoiler:Briefly after he had broken out of his cell until Aguri [[CoolDownHug snapped him out of it]].]]
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: When Koro-sensei was [[spoiler:still physically an ordinary human and being experimented upon, he admitted that he could have killed and escaped his captors on numerous occassions. However, because he was aware they were attempting to turn him into a weapon, he decided that it would be advantageous to him to attain the powers the experiments were giving him, and so he stuck around. Unfortunately, allowing the experiments to progress led to a point where the scientists deemed him too dangerous to live. His following escape attempt was fraught with so many deadly tactics to contain his power that it culminated in the death of Aguri, one of the people monitoring him who he'd grown to care for. In that moment he felt that his newly attained abilities were worthless]].
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: He became fond of [[spoiler:Aguri]] because she was the first person to show him kindness and teach him what it meant to look after someone.
* BerserkButton: The [[spoiler: anti-matter project]] is this for him. Not the victims, but the [[EvilGenius scientists]] involved, [[spoiler:[[ItsPersonal especially]] [[BigBad Yanagisawa/Shiro]]]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's usually the nicest teacher you will ever meet, but when someone threatens his students you better watch out.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Normally, he's goofy and fun-loving until his students are in danger or it's time to get serious.
* BigGood: Zigzagged. He is supposed to be Class 3-E's target because he supposedly will blow up Earth next March like he already did with the Moon. However, he is a ''great'' teacher and a kind, sensitive and respectful person who gets along with pretty much all his students and helps them and other people in every way he can, and his students' attempts on his life are more or less PlayedForLaughs. [[spoiler:Ultimately the "Big Bad" part is subverted when it turns out that he really didn't blow up the Moon, while he is also actually an involuntary time bomb due to the antimatter cells implanted inside his body.]]
* BigEater: Combined with SweetTooth. Or anything junk-foody.
* BirdsOfAFeather: [[spoiler:His friendship with Aguri stems from the fact that they are both troubled young adults living in abusive conditions.]]
* {{Bishonen}}: [[spoiler:His backstory reveals that he was actually quite the looker when he was still a human. Korosensei is capable of returning to his original form but never does it throughout the series.]]
* BizarreAlienBiology: Yes. Well, ish. He's born on Earth, he just doesn't look like it. From his [[ColorCodedForYourConvenience color-changing face]] to his [[SwissArmyAppendage multi-purpose tentacles]], with more quirks being revealed over time.
* BlitheSpirit: For a creature who intends to destroy the world, Koro-sensei is an expert in making people change their ways for the better. Karma, Irina and "Red Eye" are all examples people whose lives improved through his charisma and wisdom.
* BodyHorror: It looks pretty painful when he shoots himself to prove a point. [[spoiler:But especially his transformation looks outright terrifying looking at his arm being all messed up and [[{{Fingore}} fingers]] moving in all ways they shouldn't, and how he looks when he's rampaging throughout the facility he was tested in. One should be happy that he hid in the cave when the rest of his transformation happened.]]
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Moon/planet-killing, manga-drawing, supersonic, perverted, but really good teacher, anybody?
* BuxomIsBetter: Koro-sensei loves big breasts, and often takes a shine to Irina. [[spoiler:The flashback arc reveals that this originated from seeing Aguri in a tube-top that exposes her ample cleavage.]]
* TheChessmaster: He's an extremely skilled strategist.
** For example, in the "Robbers and Cops" tag game, he and Karasuma are the cops and have to tag the class within an hour, but Koro-sensei has the given handicap to be in "jail" until the last minute. The students underestimate his extreme skills, and they realize that his handicap is even his advantage, since nobody can tag out the "arrested" students as long he's in the "jail".
** Even though Koro-sensei is easily tricked, he uses the moments where he's one-upped by his students to provide them with helpful advice. He teaches them how to evade Karasuma when they get out, implying that he might be deliberately falling for their tricks in order to give them more opportunities to gain experience and put his advice into action.
** This even goes back to his time as [[spoiler:a test subject in Yanagisawa's experiment. While the Grim Reaper is being experimented on, he manages to almost immediately understand the science behind the experiment. He then subtly alters the reported symptoms he experiences in order to trick Yanagisawa and guide the experiment along the path towards giving himself a more powerful form...all without the "genius scientist" even realizing it.]]
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Throughout the series, Koro-sensei undergoes a subtle, important shift in personality. Formerly [[spoiler:the original "Reaper", the greatest assassin in his time]], he slowly acclimated to the responsibilities of a teacher and to empathy itself, [[spoiler:only recently instilled in him by Aguri Yukimura, a gentle young teacher assigned to observe him during his confinement]]. This is justified, because [[spoiler:the "tentacles" have an emotionally reciprocal relationship to their host, being affected by and feeding into the host's emotional state. In late chapters, Koro-sensei states that he wanted to be "full of weaknesses, easy to get along with" and able to "touch even the weakest of things, protect them, and guide them"]]. This from a guy who responded to a reckless assassination attempt by threatening the students' families (though this is probably just a threat to make them not repeat another suicidal assassination).
* CheshireCatGrin: His signature smile never moves, even when he's talking.
* ChivalrousPervert: He doesn't hide the fact that he loves women with big boobs, but he also defends Irina from a group of perverts who were harassing her and is an all-around good person, aside from that destroying the world issue. He has limits in his hobbies. He owns a stash of dirty magazines, but he insists he doesn't go farther than mailing the editors out of devotion when he is framed for going on a panty raid.
* ClarkKenting: When he wants to go out in public, he sticks a fake nose on his face, changes his skin color to a more normal tone, and puts on a wig. Amazingly, it works.
* ColorCodedEmotions: Physically so. Since Koro-sensei is almost always smiling, his emotions are read by his face's coloration and color pattern.
** Yellow: Normal
** Yellow with blushing cheeks: Very happy (usually, but not always, due to breasts)
** Green and yellow stripes: Mocking contempt
** Dark purple with X shape: Wrong answer face
** Orange with circle shape: Correct answer face (Two circles for perfect scores)
** Light blue: Sadness
** Dark blue: Shock[=/=]fear
** Red-orange: Angry
** Pitch black: Extremely angry
** Pink: Drowsy/relaxed
** White: Poker face[=/=]bewildered
** [[spoiler:Blindingly-white glow: ''Pissed beyond all reason'']]
* CombatTentacles: Comes with being octopoidal.
* CombinationAttack: [[spoiler:He combines all his emotional energies and experiences into one supercharged blast against the Reaper. Koro-sensei kills the Reaper and permanently paralyses Yanagisawa.]]
* CompellingVoice: He can whisper at high speeds in order to instill thoughts into people's heads. [[spoiler:He does this to the class during winter break to make sure they keep up with their studies despite their troubles concerning his past.]]
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: He likes to punish failed assassination attempts by ridiculous means, such as dressing the would-be assassin in silly costumes, painting their nails, brushing their hair, placing strange objects on them, etc.
* CoolTeacher: He is a great teacher who is always there to motivate his students, protect them and have fun with them.
* {{Cosplay}}: In the anime, each episode ends with Koro-Sensei dressed up as the character with the most focus in the next episode, such as Karma or Irina. In the manga, each installment's title page has him in some kind of costume, some of which have generic themes but some of which are pop-culture characters (eg the class posed as in the iconic class photo image from the ''Literature/BattleRoyale'' franchise, with Koro-Sensei as Kitano from the film).
* CrazyPrepared: Dear Lord, but is he? The [[{{Doorstopper}} guidebooks]] he produces are just one (big) example.
** When he faces [[spoiler:Asano Sr. with grenade-trapped textbooks, he reveals he has memorized ''every'' textbook in Japan.]]
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:The man who became Koro-sensei was an orphan from a brutally corrupt slum in an unnamed tropical country, who learned survival skills at a very young age until he became the legendary assassin simply known as the "Reaper", until his disciple sold him out to the Japanese government, which proceeded to conduct antimatter experiments that would turn him into a LivingWeapon. During this time he met Aguri, who helped him rediscover his humanity with her tales of her experiences as a middle-school teacher. Unfortunately, after an experiment to test the effects of aging on antimatter in a mouse resulted in the destruction of 70% of the Moon, head scientist Koutarou Yanagisawa decided to have him killed before he exploded next year. When Aguri warned him, he went on a despair-filled rampage in an attempt to escape, only to fail to protect Aguri from the tentacle of an antimatter container. With her last breath, she asks the heavily mutated Koro-sensei to look after her students.]]
* DeathSeeker: [[spoiler: Turns out, this is what the whole assassination arrangement with his students amounts to. Koro-sensei began his tenure with the knowledge that he was a ticking time bomb who would explode in a year, so he decided he wanted to instill as much knowledge as he could into the kids as he could in that time, ultimately desiring that he would meet his end at their hands before his expiry date. Initially, upon learning he was to die, Koro-sensei actually felt so much despair he was ready to let the world blow up with him, but Aguri's dying request that he teach her students ended up changing his outlook]].
* DefaceOfTheMoon: He blew up most of it prior to the story's beginning. [[spoiler:Except he actually didn't, it was a bluff to motivate his students. Although the real reason the moon blew up ''is'' connected to the same experiments that led to his powers]].
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Koro-sensei's habit of offering a handicap in assassinations as motivation for his students typically results in this reaction from him.
* DisappearsIntoLight: [[spoiler:He dissolves into countless particles of light after his students finally assassinate him.]]
* DramaPreservingHandicap: He isn't allowed to injure any of the students or staff as a condition to be allowed to teach to class 3-E. Never mind the human students, even [[spoiler:Itona]] wouldn't stand a chance against him if he were willing and able to retaliate.
** During the Assassination Island arc, the students' attempted assassination of him forces him to use his ultimate defense, which renders him unable to move for twenty-four hours - just as several of his students are affected with a deadly virus, with the only antidote in the hands of someone that wants to kill him. This forces Karasuma, Irina and the healthy students to risk their lives to get the antidote.
* DreadfulMusician: Weakness #27 -- He's tone deaf. His dreadful singing is powerful enough to shatter concrete.
* EldritchAbomination: Averted. Even though Koro-sensei looks like a freaky alien octopus, he states that he was born and raised on Earth. As what human, animal, vegetable, or mineral, it is anyone's guess.
* EtTuBrute: [[spoiler:Back when he was the "Reaper", he was sold out to the authorities by his disciple, who took on his name and reputation as his own.]]
** Invokes this trope in a hilarious way when he's accused of stealing the bras of big-breasted women in town; Isogai tries to defend him as a "normal pervert", but as he starts listing down Koro Sensei's perversions, even he tells him to just "turn himself in".
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Koro-sensei is not pleased when one of his students' collaborative attempt at killing him almost injures one of their own.
** When the students of another school kidnap Kayano and Kanzaki, he destroys said students for daring to touch ''his'' students.
* EvilLaugh: [[spoiler:As the "Reaper", when he overwhelms Koutarou Yanagisawa and his soldiers in his flashback story.]]
* EvilOverlord: His role in the ''Koro-Sensei Q!'' SpinOff. That said, he also acts as 3-E's teacher, much like in the original version.
* ExactWords: He's going to destroy the Earth come March, but until then, he's going to be Class E's teacher. [[spoiler:After all, [[YourDaysAreNumbered he's going to blow up on March 13]] unless he is killed first.]]
* ExcuseMeWhileIMultitask: When people try to kill Koro-sensei he's usually doing other things, such as meticulously trimming his attackers' eyebrows or giving a fighter jet a polish in midair. When helping his students study for the midterms by [[FlashStep flashing]] between them so fast he leaves an afterimage, he is also resting on a chair outside the classroom.
* ExplainingYourPowersToTheEnemy: Subverted. When he bothers to say anything at all, he only tells the basics, and often leaves out key details, like the fact that his mucus protects him from his weakness to water.
* ExtremeOmnivore: Aside from his habit of flying around the world to enjoy cuisines from different countries, he has been seen eating pens, tissues, knives, sodium hydroxide, aqua regia, plastic explosives, you name it.
* FamousLastWords: [[spoiler:"Congratulations on your graduation...", apparently whispered to Class 3-E after they finally kill him.]]
* FaustianRebellion: [[spoiler:Before his first day of class, he uses his newly-gained powers to rip the scientists that caused them a collective new one.]]
* FlashStep: Koro-sensei has a top speed of Mach 20. During his introduction to Class 3-E, he easily dodges Karasuma while meticulously trimming his eyebrows. When attacked by state-of-the-art fighter jets, he gives them a midair waxing. When attacked by Isogai, Yada, Mimura, Maehara, Okano and Kataoka with knives, he disarms all of them, then replaces the knives with tulips without them noticing.
* AFormYouAreComfortableWith: The first chapter makes it clear that his current appearance is not his true form. Sans tentacles, his shadowy true form seems human-like. Averted at the revelation that [[spoiler:the "tentacles", referring to all the artificial components of his body, are altered by ''and alter'' the host's emotions. He began having minor but uncontrollable changes to his expression and limbs during the experiments, although his form remained stable until his RoaringRampageOfRevenge; it may be impossible for him to control his shape enough to play this trope straight.]]
* FragileSpeedster: By his own admission, he's so physically weak that it would take just one person grabbing each of his tentacles to pin him down. Good luck grabbing his tentacles, though.
* FreudianExcuse: [[spoiler:He became an assassin due to a horrific childhood, same as Irina.]]
* FridgeBrilliance: He goes through an InUniverse example when Karma discusses his plans for the future. At first, Koro-Sensei was iffy about a career as a bureaucrat being appropriate for someone like Karma, but, after Karma explained [[TheManBehindTheMan his logic behind his decision]], Koro-Sensei took it back, and conceded that it was perfect for him.
* FriendlyEnemy: To his students and his coworkers, he is polite, sociable, and encouraging, even as they try to kill him and he threatens to blow up the planet.
* GadgeteerGenius: Has extensive skill and knowledge with machines and electronics. He was able to upgrade Ritsu's capabilities for a relatively cheap sum of money and also built a custom motorcycle with a frame made of wood.
* GameFace: When his face turns pitch-black, it means he's ''very'' angry.
* GeniusBruiser: He is impossible to defeat in single combat, and he teaches every single subject at once without being challenged in any way.
* GoOutWithASmile: Fully expects to do this. [[spoiler:And he does, smiling proudly to his class as he bids them a final farewell as they assassinate him.]]
* GoneHorriblyWrong: A super-powerful artificial creature, created to be the world's savior, now on course to destroy it in less than a year.
* GuileHero: For all his power, he almost always solves problems with trickery rather than brute force alone, often to the effect of bettering his opponents.
* HealingFactor: Koro-Sensei, amongst other abilities, has the power of regeneration. Even if he gets hit with AppliedPhlebotinum weapons, unless his body is almost completely destroyed, he'll recover in seconds.
* HeelRealization: After [[spoiler:Aguri's sacrifice]], he realized that for all his gifts and skills, he'd never tried to use them to help people, only to kill.
* HelpingWouldBeKillStealing: Though he may guide and coordinate them, he lets his students handle problems on their own whenever they're capable of it, which they usually are.
* HiroshimaAsAUnitOfMeasure: Every few chapters Koro-sensei is given a character introduction that includes one of these comparing to his ability to travel at mach 20. Some are fairly sensible ([[LudicrousPrecision 651.241]] times as fast as Usain Bolt's 100-meter dash) while others are ridiculous (133,333.33 times faster than the speed of falling sakura petals).
* ILetGwenStacyDie: [[spoiler:As he destroyed Yanagisawa's lab in his escape, Aguri tried to stop him with a CooldownHug, only for her to be fatally injured by the tentacle of an antimatter container. He became the teacher of Class 3-E to fulfill her last wish.]]
* IllKillYou: Koro-sensei threatens to kill the families of Class 3-E if any of them endanger one another during an assassination attempt, though from what is later learned about his personality, he was almost certainly bluffing.
* ImmuneToBullets: As Irina found out, he cannot be hurt by lead bullets, as the bullets literally melt inside his body.
* InformedAttribute: He is supposedly an evil monster who intends to destroy the world, and only hasn't done so yet because it would be boring... or so the narrative says. He actually acts like a kindly sage, helping everyone around him improve themselves. The dissonance is so extreme it's hard to imagine that it's not {{Foreshadowing}} some kind of reveal. And indeed, he's far from evil -- he just cannot help that [[spoiler:he will destroy the world if he's not killed, as the antimatter in his body will explode when he dies naturally]]. He wants to be killed and wants to help Class 3-E to save the world and [[spoiler:fulfill Aguri's dying wish.]]
* InvisibleStreaker: PlayedForLaughs; Koro-sensei uses his invisibility to avoid scaring a group of train passengers during a class trip, but his students point out that a random set of floating, disembodied clothing is just as unsettling.
* {{Invisibility}}: A rarely used ability, and his clothes and anything he's carrying will still be visible. He makes himself transparent by changing the color of his skin to match his surroundings like a chameleon.
* InvoluntaryShapeshifter: Koro-sensei transformed several times after drinking hazardous chemicals. In a more serious note, [[spoiler:after Aguri warned him of his impending death and that Yanagisawa was more than willing to kill him to preempt what he has done, he was not able to control his emotions and let the tentacles consume him.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Koro-sensei wants to destroy the world and constantly teases his students for not being able to kill him, yet he always makes sure they get good grades and successes in life. As it turns out, [[spoiler:he had no intention of destroying the world, but the antimatter cells in his body will make him do so unless he is killed first, while his job as teacher was part of a promise he made with the dying Aguri to help her students become better people.]]
* KiManipulation: Shown in chapter 84. [[spoiler:What's interesting is that ''he initially didn't know he could do that''; he learned it during the Island arc.]]
* KilledOffForReal: At the end of Chapter 177, [[spoiler:he's killed by his students before he can be killed by the government]].
* KryptoniteFactor: A rubbery material that is not described beyond being "special" and able to disrupt his cells on contact. It can be fashioned into knives, BB pellets or clothes, and is apparently available in abundance.
* LivingMoodRing: He can change his skin color and pattern to show his emotions, since he is [[PerpetualSmiler otherwise always smiling]].
* LivingWeapon: [[spoiler:Yanagisawa injected him with antimatter as part of experiments to turn him into Japan's OneManArmy. However, when a similar project on the effects of aging on a lab rat destroyed 70% of the Moon, Yanagisawa decided to hastily can the project, even if it means killing Koro-sensei, who only narrowly escaped through Aguri's warning and, ultimately, sacrifice.]]
* LovableSexManiac: He loves big-breasted women and enjoys reading porn magazines, yet he's still a funny and caring teacher.
* LoveRedeems: [[spoiler:He used to be the "Reaper", the greatest assassin in the world. When he met Aguri, her kindness made him understand what it meant to watch over others. He almost lost himself again after hearing he would die next year, but Aguri's death and her final wish made him decide to spend what little time he has teaching Class 3-E both as fulfillment of her dying wish and as his atonement.]]
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: He casually blows or slices off his own tentacles, sometimes several at once. Supposedly this causes emotional disturbance that slows him down for a while afterwards, but that's still way less of a response than such injuries warrant. Of course, he can regrow his tentacles after a few seconds.
* MasterOfAll: [[spoiler:As the "Reaper", he's pretty much mastered almost every skill imaginable, in order to be a more effective assassin. He has complete knowledge of just about any subject, including a mastery of science that allows him to hijack Yanagisawa's experiment...while the "Reaper" himself is the one being experimented on.]]
* TheMatchmaker: A chapter has Koro-sensei pairing up the students into boy/girl pairs of his choosing to explore a cave in a poor attempt to cause some romantic tension between them. He even refers to the scheme as ''Couple Setup.'' Somewhat subverted in that he doesn't actually want them to get together as much as he wants juicy romantic gossip that he could poke fun at them for and write a novel about later.
* MeaningfulName: As mentioned under PunnyName, his nickname is a pun of "korosenai" ("unkillable" in Japanese) and "sensei".
* MundaneUtility: This is practically the entire basis for his character. Koro-sensei boasts an enormous number of extraordinary abilities and he uses nearly every single one of them to be a better teacher. Able to fly at Mach 20? Use your speed to visit different countries during lunch breaks in order to sample local cuisine. Able to create dozens of visual clones through sheer speed? Use them to divide your attention to give every single student simultaneous one-on-one instruction. Able to regenerate from even severe injuries in a matter of seconds? Use the ability to remove limbs to motivate your students to perform better on the next test.
* MyGreatestFailure: [[spoiler:Aguri's death]] led to his HeelRealization and motivation to teach Class 3-E. [[spoiler:In the end, he also admits he was an improper teacher to his apprentice, who betrayed him and later became the second "Reaper".]]
* MyGreatestSecondChance: [[spoiler:When Aguri's younger sister Akari/Kayano is killed at the finale, Koro-sensei has the knowledge and preparation necessary to save her life this time. After stopping his rampage, he tells his ex-apprentice that were they to meet in the afterlife, he would RaiseHimRightThisTime.]]
* MysteriousPast: The beginning chapters already throw multiple question marks on his true identity, such as his motivations to become a schoolteacher and flashbacks to a dying woman who made him swear a promise. The latter half of the series ultimately reveals that [[spoiler:he was a test subject for an antimatter infusion experiment gone horribly wrong, and that the woman was Aguri, his first love, who encouraged him to spend his last days teaching Class 3-E.]]
* NeatFreak: Koro-Sensei has a bit of a hang-up with cleanliness. As mentioned before, he meticulously trimmed an assailant's eyebrows and waxed a fighter jet in midair.
* NiceHat: He ''always'' wears a mortarboard that never falls off... and also looks amusingly small.
* NighInvulnerability: He is able to withstand fire from multiple high-caliber machine guns at once. Apparently, the only things that can seriously harm him are the special anti-sensei material and [[spoiler:other beings similar to him, like Itona.]]
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Getting really close to his students seems to a part of being a PsychologistTeacher. Just one example is wrapping up Sugino in his tentacles to evaluate the flexibility in the kid's joints.
* TheNoseKnows: He has an incredible sense of smell despite not having a proper nose.
* NotTheFallThatKillsYou: Averted, though it involves sudden acceleration rather than deceleration. Koro-sensei cannot accelerate as quickly as he normally would if he has to catch or carry a normal human being because their bodies couldn't handle the physical stress.
* OmnicidalManiac: He plans to blow up the Earth, along with everyone living on it. [[spoiler:Eventually subverted, as it turns out that he has no control over the antimatter cells within him, which will explode on March 13 unless he is killed first.]]
* OneManArmy: He's so powerful entire fleets have been sent to go after him, mostly to no avail. [[spoiler:In fact, his backstory reveals that he brought a ten-year-long conflict at a country (presumably his homeland) to a standstill in a space of a week by killing two dozen members of the top brass.]]
* OnlyAFleshWound: Losing limbs may affect his speed, but having [[spoiler:two gaping holes shot through his head seems to have no effect on his ability to think at all.]]
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: When his students asked his name, he said he didn't have any name he could tell them, so they could call him whatever they wanted. Kayano then decided to call him "Koro-sensei". [[spoiler:He never had a real name, since he grew up on his own in the slums in an unnamed tropical country. Before becoming "Koro-sensei", he was known as "Reaper.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: When the goofy, fun-loving Koro-sensei becomes angry and breaks out his GameFace, prepare for this lighthearted manga to turn very serious, very quickly. He [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] it after his first battle with [[spoiler:Itona]], when he turns embarrassed after one of his rare bursts of anger, lamenting that it will ruin his reputation as a gag character.
* PapaWolf: Attack or bully his students and Koro-sensei will make sure you pay for it.
* {{Paparazzi}}: Where there's potential for spicy gossip (in particular ShipTease material), Koro-sensei is at hand to take notes and/or photographs.
* PerpetualSmiler: He rarely breaks his constant smile, [[spoiler:even when he was being experimented on by Yanagisawa, or as he allows his students to give him a dignified death.]]
* ThePromise: Koro-sensei is teaching the students in his class as a promise he made to someone. As he once put it, teaching all of his students seriously is much more important to him than the end of the world. [[spoiler:He made the promise to Aguri Yukimura, Kayano's older sister and the class's previous homeroom teacher.]]
* PsychologistTeacher: Goes to extreme lengths to make sure that his students are able to resolve their own personal problems.
* PunnyName: Due to a [[NoNameGiven lack of a name]] at the beginning of the series, Kayano came up with Koro-sensei as a pun with the Japanese words "korosenai" and "sensei" ("unkillable teacher").
* RealMenWearPink: He knows how to groom eyebrows, and he does so quite impeccably.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Koro-sensei may plan to blow up the world, but he's really undestanding as a teacher. If a student fails an assassination attempt, he'll sit down with them and discuss how they can do better next time in a constructive manner.
* RedBaron: When he was human, he was known as [[spoiler:the "Reaper", the world's greatest assassin.]]
* RedEyesTakeWarning: When his face changes to black he drops all his usual goofy characteristics and becomes seriously menacing.
* RequiredSecondaryPowers: Flying at Mach 20 requires a few other traits to work properly, such as hardening and streamlining of his body so that he can withstand the whiplash and G forces. Also, he has to use his tentacles to screen Nagisa and Karma when they travel with him so they don't get pelted by high speed dust.
* RememberWhenYouBlewUpASun: He brags about being the one who blew up the Moon. [[spoiler:Except he actually didn't.]]
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: His voice gets quite high when he's splashed with water.
* SecretlyDying: In Chapter 133 he reveals [[spoiler:he's going to die anyway on March 13 even if no one manages to assassinate him.]]
* SelfDuplication: He can move so fast he can make selectively tangible afterimages. Chapter 12 shows him making one for every student in the class to personally focus on their weak subjects. He even leaves one outside to rest from all that work.
* ShipperOnDeck: He, and the rest of Class 3-E, ship Karasuma/Irina.
* SignatureLaugh: "Nurufufufu."
* SilentScapegoat: [[spoiler:He isn't the one who blew up the Moon as he claims -- it was a lab rat transplanted with antimatter generating cells, sent on a satellite to the Moon as part of an experiment to test the effects of aging on the cells which had GoneHorriblyWrong.]]
* SlasherSmile: His GameFace color: Pitch Black.
* SlaveToPR: If there is one thing he will avoid more than death, it is disspointing his students. He wants them to see him as a trustworthy individual who is sincere in his desire to teach them to succeed in life (and in killing him). This is exploited by all those who want to kill him (including his students) such as when [[spoiler: Shiro framed him as an underwear thief, and he ran headlong into a trap to clear his name after seeing how disappointed his students were in him]].
* SmugSuper: Well, yes. No chapter is missing without him boasting that he's unkillable. He even has a smug face, where several green stripes cross his face.
* StarCrossedLovers: With [[spoiler:Aguri Yukimura, Akari/Kaede Kayano's older sister and previous homeroom teacher of Class 3-E.]]
* StoneWall: His Ultimate Defense technique takes this to an extreme: [[spoiler:He releases most of the energy and matter in his body in an explosion that blows away nearby enemies, then condenses said energy and matter into a ball-shaped barrier around him. This makes him absolutely invulnerable, but leaves him as a talking head for 24 hours.]]
* StreetUrchin: [[spoiler:As a child, he grew up on his own in a brutally corrupt slum in an unnamed tropical country. Due to his violent background, he became an assassin eventually known as "Reaper".]]
* SuperDrowningSkills: Because his body is sponge-like, it absorbs water quickly, weighing him down on water.
* SuperMode: [[spoiler:His ultimate defense form makes him completely invulnerable. However, he is also immobile in this form for 24 hours, and he is afraid that somebody could send him on a rocket into outer space (though he admits that would be unrealistic, since sending him to space would take too long)]]. This gives his enemies the opportunity to kill him with a plan, and he can't do anything to avoid it. The mode is closer to MultiPlatformBalance.
* SuperSpeed: Koro-sensei, as previously mentioned, can move at Mach 20. He eats shaved ice he personally gathers from the North Pole. He eats Chinese food on his lunch break... in China.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: In chapter 43.
-->'''Koro-sensei:''' "...I mean, I just don't really feel like [[spoiler:swimming]]. And it's not like [[spoiler:my tentacles get all bloated underwater and I can't move]] or anything."
* SweetTooth: He loves sweets and is usually seen eating them. He spends his salary as a teacher on them.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: [[spoiler:When he was a human, he was a really handsome black-haired man.]]
* TerribleArtist: One of his minor weaknesses, he can only do simple art. And he still challenges Sugaya, the best artist in class, to making henna tattoos.
* ThisLoserIsYou: The Season 2 Premier, and Chapters 74-76, in which Koro-Sensei attempts to play ShipperOnDeck for his students, ends up being a TakeThat to real life shippers. His students end up finding it creepy that he's so interested in trying to pair off a bunch of kids.
* TogetherInDeath: [[spoiler:In the epilogue, Kayano imagines that somewhere he and Aguri are now watching over Class 3-E even after seven years.]]
* TombstoneTeeth: Koro-sensei sports a brick-toothed grin that only adds to his cute-but-creepy Smiley Face-with-tentacles appearance, and is the cherry on top of him being a borderline EldritchAbomination with enough power to destroy the planet. When he gets angry, however, his teeth turn into fangs. [[spoiler:Even when he was human, he'd sport a brick-toothed grin for comical effect when he was being perverted.]]
* TooPowerfulToLive: He is this to the entire world. [[spoiler:Even though his chances of actually destroying the world are less than 1%, world governments refuse to even consider the possibility of letting him live. Even discounting that, his abilities are so game-breaking he can do whatever he wants, and no one would be able to stop him. This is why all later examples of beings with his power were deliberately given either critical weaknesses or shortened lifespans.]]
* TragicKeepsake: [[spoiler:His necktie was a birthday gift from Aguri Yukimura, the woman he loved and who gave him a birthday.]]
* TragicMonster: [[spoiler:He's about to destroy the Earth just like he did with the Moon... and it's not completely of his own free will. For one, he's actually taking the blame for an antimatter-infused lab rat destroying the Moon, while the same cells in his body have turned him into a walking time bomb.]]
* TranquilFury: When [[spoiler:Kayano was impaled by Number Two, he barely uttered a word or raised his voice despite his absolute fury. He simply concentrated all his power into one final, devastating attack and made short work of Shiro and Number Two. It's less tranquil in the anime, where he emits a roar of uncontrollable rage for several seconds as he turns white.]]
* VillainProtagonist: He destroyed the Moon and plans on doing the same to Earth in a year. Until then, he's going to fulfill a promise to be a teacher, and he's going to do it perfectly. As such, based on what we know, the only reason people targeting him can be considered bad guys is because they don't always care about not putting Class 3-E in danger. [[spoiler:Ultimately, he proves himself GoodAllAlong, when it was revealed that he actually didn't destroy the Moon (it was a lab rat), but he took the blame anyway, while teaching Class 3-E was him fulfilling his promise to the dying Aguri, and he actually [[DeathSeeker wants to be killed]] before the antimatter cells inside his body destroy the world.]]
* WasOnceAMan: [[spoiler:He originally was a fearsome assassin known as the "Reaper", until some government experiments turned him into what he is now.]]
* WeaksauceWeakness:
** Weak to water. Specifically, his body is sponge-like. Even a day with high humidity causes him to swell up comically. If he actually found himself immersed in water it would certainly get much worse and slow him down significantly. [[spoiler:The mucus his skin releases can protect him from it, but it can be depleted.]]
** The anti-sensei weapons are basically his Kryptonite, which is notable as it's completely harmless to normal humans.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: InUniverse, [[spoiler:Aguri thinks that had he not grown up in a WretchedHive, most of his personality quirks or weaknesses (other than his inability to swim) would've likely been expressed as a human being as well.]]
* WhyAmITicking: [[spoiler:The real reason he will destroy Earth on March 13 is because the antimatter-generating cells Shiro/Yanagisawa put in his body will make him explode.]]
* WillfullyWeak: [[spoiler:He asked his tentacles to make him weak, so he could become a teacher that could easily get along with others and protect his students.]]
* WorldsBestWarrior: He held that title alongside his disciple as the greatest assassin. After the transformation, he became the WorldsStrongestMan, but he wanted to be killed by his students.
* YourDaysAreNumbered: [[spoiler:He is going to die in upcoming March 13 anyway, since his anti-matter generating cells will make him explode. Actually averted, in that the chance of instability and thus antimatter explosion decreases with increasing body size. For Koro-sensei, who is at least twice as large as a fully-grown human, the odds were ridiculously small to begin with, but drinking a certain chemical mix would reduce the chances to ''less than 1%'' (and [[ChekhovsGun that was the very formula that made his body as liquid]] way back in the beginning chapters of the series). The danger was ''never there'', but world governments aren't willing to dismiss that 1%.]]

->''"Like you've got the balls to try [killing someone]. Go right ahead."''

The most often seen student, and the main perspective character. He fell into Class 3-E at the end of the previous year due to poor grades.

5th best marksmanship, boys' side.
----
* AbusiveParents: [[spoiler:His mother Hiromi, is one of the MyBelovedSmother variants. She forces him to conform to her version of his life and future (i.e., what she couldn’t achieve when she was younger) without considering what ''he'' actually wants, frequently tells him she wishes he were born a girl, ( going as far to invoke DudeLooksLikeALady by refusing to let him cut his hair) and gets incredibly violent when he shows even the slightest hint of disobedience. The saddest part is that he could’ve chosen to live with his father, where he’d clearly be happier, but instead chose to live with his mother out of concern for her mental health, which likely ties back to his lack of self preservation.]]
* TheAce: Even before he trounced [[spoiler:Takaoka]], he was the only normal human to threaten Koro-sensei to the point where he had to use his molting ability. He is also readily acknowledged as being the go-to guy for information and analysis. Most of the embarrassing information shown in the assassination video for Koro-sensei was his contribution.
* AintTooProudToBeg: When [[spoiler:Takaoka]] forces him to ask for forgiveness [[PoseOfSupplication on his knees]] to get [[spoiler:the antidote for his friends]], he immediately complies. However, he does not bow his head until specifically ordered to, and even when the former puts his boot on his head, he doesn't let his face touch the ground.
* AmbiguousDisorder: There is ''something'' off about him.
** He isn't intimidated by having to wield a real knife, let alone threaten someone's life, even though it's specifically pointed out that he should be. Yet he isn't generally callous or manipulative like a sociopath -- he is just cold and calculating, as though he were a veteran hitman. Not only does he show little hesitation, but he is clear-minded enough to attack using the dull side of the blade.
** His early interactions with Karma are also not quite ordinary. Most would be rather disturbed by the latter's claims of wanting to kill his teachers, but Nagisa, who's already used to his exaggerations, remained calm the whole time, barely showing any reaction.
* AnimalMotifs: A [[SnakesAreSinister snake, symbolizing his viciousness and his ability to hide in plain sight]], like a snake in the grass.
* AnimeHair: He seems to have odd pigtails in the back of his head, but since he was never seen with his hair down -- even when swimming -- for a long time it was believed that that was its natural shape. [[spoiler:Chapter 112 reveals that they actually are pigtails.]]
* AttractiveBentGender: He only needs to put on a skirt and some hair decorations to pass off as a really convincing girl, and even caught a guy's attention like this. According to Hayami, he looks so feminine, it's unnatural. [[spoiler:Justified, since Hiromi, who wanted a daughter, makes him look like a girl.]]
* AudienceSurrogate: For younger audiences in Japan, a character who struggles in school and suffers from lack of confidence would be extremely familiar to a lot of people. By this interpretation, that would make his ability to summon up will when needed and his various talents WishFulfillment.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: His abilities are hardly superhuman, but he still possesses the best sensibility and instinct in the class when it comes to planning an assassination (even Karasuma's analysis in Roll Book Time rate his reconnaissance stat a full 6/6, whereas the rest score 3/6). Then he reveals that he has the ability to analyze someone's motives by looking at his/her body language alone. It becomes amplified after [[spoiler:he's temporarily paralyzed by the "Reaper", and he describes it as being able to see a mental image of each person's individual "wavelength of consciousness".]]
* BadassAdorable: Nagisa is the shortest, most androgynous and meekest of the boys. And he is also one of Class 3-E's most natural assassins, cemented by [[spoiler:destroying Takaoka in a duel with ''real'' knives -- twice -- and ambushing Nakamura, Terasaka, Muramatsu and Yoshida during the civil war game before choking Karma to submission for a total of five kills, the most in the class.]]
* BadassTeacher: [[spoiler:His occupation after the TimeSkip. Especially when Nagisa was put in charge of one of the worst classes full of delinquents and misfits. He'll still see that they graduate.]]
* BadPowersGoodPeople: At one point, Nagisa becomes frustrated over the fact that his only redeeming talents are his terrifying assassination skills. After [[spoiler:using those same talents to save his mother from being killed by an assassin]], he resolves to find a way to use those talents to help people, one way or another. [[spoiler:In the epilogue, he finds his creative expression through teaching and rehabilitating delinquents.]]
* BareYourMidriff: The outfit he wore while [[ItMakesSenseInContext pretending to be a fish]].
* BeatThemAtTheirOwnGame: [[spoiler:At the climax of the civil war game he defeats Karma with the kind of brute force he specializes in (i.e., a triangle armlock) in order to make a point. ]]
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: [[spoiler:He still looked pretty good despite being a bit roughed up during his final fight with Takaoka in the Assassination Island arc.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: On one hand, he's a genuinely sweet kid who gets along with just about everyone in the RagtagBunchOfMisfits that is class 3-E. But on the other hand, his stealth and sheer bloodlust can make elite veteran soldiers shit bricks. And as it turns out, his habit of noting down people's weaknesses also serves well with character assassination, his other specialty.
* BigBrotherMentor: To little Sakura. Like Koro-sensei, he uses his knowledge of basic assassination techniques to help her pass a math test and avoid being intimidated by her classmates.
* TheBigDamnKiss: [[spoiler:As Kaede is rampaging, he manages to distract her by kissing her long enough to induce a PostKissCatatonia which allows Koro-sensei to remove the tentacles.]]
* {{Bishonen}}: To an effeminate extreme.
* BookDumb: Relatively speaking. He did fall into class 3-E due to poor grades, after all. But when it comes to ''applying'' the knowledge he has, he's more like a TeenGenius.
* BreadEggsMilkSquick:
** The three things he wants most are to get to know everyone in his class, to live without leaving things unfinished, and to kill his teacher.
** That's not the only time Nagisa's train of thought blithely dips into surreal and slightly disturbing territory. Read the journal entry Koro-sensei grades in Chapter 2. It looks like a normal journal entry, discussing Nagisa's favorite food and where his family went for dinner the night before (a sushi restaurant). He notes that his favorite food is ''takosushi'', and that Koro-sensei looks like an octopus. His entry abruptly ends with him wondering what Koro-sensei tastes like.
* ChekhovsGun: Those hairbands Nagisa always wears around his wrists. He's almost never seen without them, and when he isn't it's usually a drawing error. [[spoiler:He has them just in case something happens to the ones he wears in his hair, because he's embarrassed by how long it is, but his mother doesn't allow him to cut it.]]
* ChekhovsSkill:
** The [[spoiler:"sure-kill technique" he learned from Lovro, the stunner clap,]] is left unmentioned and unexplained for several chapters until he uses it on [[spoiler:Takaoka in their second duel.]]
** He also managed to pick up a bit of Irina's kiss technique. [[spoiler:He uses it as a [[CooldownHug Cooldown Kiss]] to interrupt Kayano's tentacle-induced rage. However, he's only skilled enough to do a 15-hit combo.]]
* ChildProdigy: [[spoiler: He has a natural gift for assassination, able to note weakpoints at a glance and conceal his blodlust when attacking.]]
* ClassicalAntiHero: Though he's more than willing to assassinate Koro-sensei, Nagisa is the shortest guy in the class, physically weak compared to the rest of the students, and has a few confidence issues thanks to being dropped into Class 3-E (as well as [[spoiler:some major domestic issues]]). Didn't stop him from standing out as one of Class 3-E's best assassins.
* CluelessChickMagnet: Kayano clearly has a crush on him, as well as, implicitly, Nakamura and (according to the Roll Book Time) Kanzaki. On top of that, Sakura also develops a PrecociousCrush on him. For his part, Nagisa's low self-esteem makes him none the wiser. It's even {{Lampshaded}} in a Volume 11 extra, when he charms Sakura, while Meg and Hiroto look on.
-->'''Hiroto:''' He's scary...
-->'''Meg:''' Even more terrifying that he doesn't even realize it...
-->''Everyone's beginning to see how dangerous he is.''
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Blue hair and eyes.
* CutlassBetweenTheTeeth: Nagisa holds a combat knife with his mouth so he can limber up before he fights [[spoiler:Takaoka]]. It's become one of his trademark poses in both official and fan art, such as in his character image above.
* DeadpanSnarker: He has his moments, though it’s more in the English Dub. One example is as Okajima is showing them a picture of the new transfer student:
--> '''Sugino:''' Woah! It’s a girl?
--> '''Nagisa:''' ''(dryly)'' And you’ve already made her your screensaver.
* DeathGlare: Nagisa sends one to [[spoiler:Takaoka]] when the conditions for his assassination method are finally met. He is smiling, but that only makes it even ''more'' chilling.
* DecoyProtagonist: {{Subverted|Trope}} with regards to [[spoiler:Kayano. The latter spent a whole year nursing an ultimately misguided grudge against Koro-sensei for her sister Aguri's death, and used Nagisa to hide her true intentions. Ultimately, however, it was Nagisa who played a key role in the last quarter of the series by saving Kayano from her tentacle-induced madness, helping the class change their objective to saving Koro-sensei from his impending explosion (reclassifying their original objective of assassination as a last resort), having to deal the fatal blow on Koro-sensei before a government anti-sensei laser fires on him, and finally following his footsteps as a teacher.]]
* DissonantSerenity: Walking up to Koro-sensei with a grenade around his neck and knowing full well he could get seriously injured or even die with nary a change in his usual expression? Check. Taking down [[spoiler:an elite veteran soldier by casually walking up to him as though he were walking to school and slashing at his neck]]? Check. His ability to completely hide his (considerable) killing intent is his greatest strength, making him the most assassin-like of all the students.
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: Karasuma's assessment in the Roll Book Time notes that he has little idea as to how terrifying his assassination skills are until [[spoiler:his first duel with Takaoka]], and even after that he still sees no limits as to its true potential.
* DraggedIntoDrag: Because he looks so girly, Nagisa has suffered this a few times courtesy of Nakamura. He's been forced to crossdress during the girls' infiltration mission in the Assassination Island arc, got his pants swapped with Nakamura's skirt during the SchoolFestival, and at the ''Koro-sensei Q!'' SpinOff, accidentally charmed the whole class with Kayano's cute two-piece swimsuit.
* TheDreaded: Nagisa becomes this to Takaoka after Nagisa one-ups and humilates him into leaving E-class. Nagisa's DissonantSerenity killing intent ends up haunting Takaoka thereafter.
** Also eventually revealed to be this to Karma, who admits that Nagisa's natural talent for killing was so unnerving to him that he's constantly had to hold back the instinct to self-defensively beat Nagisa to a pulp. This is actually part of what caused Karma to distance himself from Nagisa before they were both thrown into E-class.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: He has GirlishPigtails and a slim, feminine-looking body (minus boobs). This is lampshaded during Chapter 43's pool time, where Nakamura saw him wearing trunks and admits that until then she was confused about his true gender. He also only needs female clothing and some accessories to pass up for a girl in Chapter 66 / Season 1 Episode 19 and accidentally charm another boy. [[spoiler:This is deconstructed, however, when it was revealed that his mother deliberately set this up because she always wanted a daughter.]]
* EffeminateVoice: Nagisa is an androgynous-looking boy who has managed to easily pass off as a girl when forced to wear a skirt. Fittingly for his [[DudeLooksLikeALady appearance,]] Nagisa is voiced by a woman.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: When a disguise makes them think he's a girl, that is. And possibly even when they know he's a boy.
* ExpressiveHair: Subtly. His pigtails droop when he's feeling particularly down. They lift up and become wing-like when he's surprised or his killing intent is switched on.
* ExtremeDoormat: He allowed himself to be abused by his ControlFreak of a mother without saying a word, because everytime he tries to defy her, she flies into a rage. Fortunately, this has come to an end when he saves her from an assassin.
* FirstNameBasis: Everyone calls him by his given name. Really everyone. This is a bit odd in a LastNameBasis setting. Chapter 178 reveals [[spoiler:that this setup would make it easier for him to re-adopt his old surname if his parents ever get try to patch things up, which they do as requested by Koro-sensei.]]
** This gets upped by his students during his student teacher tenure who also call him by his first name with no honorifics.
* FirstPersonPeripheralNarrator: While Koro-sensei is the central character, Nagisa provides most of the narration, usually in the form of explaining the thoughts of the whole class.
* FollowInMyFootsteps: [[spoiler:After saving his mother from an assassin using the same skills he honed throughout his childhood with her, Nagisa decides to follow Koro-sensei's path as a schoolteacher.]]
* GenderBlenderName: "Nagisa" is an androgynous name, though more often given to girls. [[spoiler:Makes sense since his mother wanted a daughter.]]
* GirlishPigtails: Seriously, look at his hair. You can't deny that those are pigtails, and he looks very girly with them. [[spoiler:He did this out of a need to put his shoulder-length hair in control because his mother wouldn't allow him to cut it. Also, he originally mulled a ponytail, but Kayano suggested his current style so he could stand out enough for her to be able to blend in with the "background characters".]]
* GuileHero: He's a tricksy one, no doubt about it. The standout example would be [[spoiler:HiddenInPlainSight during the civil war game by matching his camouflage to Karasuma's so he could stand back-to-back with him, allowing him to keep an eye on the entire battlefield and take out Nakamura and the delinquent trio at once.]]
* HeightAngst: [[spoiler:He is a little dismayed at the fact that he hasn't grown much even after seven years.]]
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: He's at least competent at everything he does, but you wouldn't think so by how low his opinion of himself is unless his killing intent is switched on.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Sugino and especially Karma.
* HiddenDepths: Nagisa is heavily implied to be more than just the main perspective character, as evidenced in a training session in Chapter 38 / Season 1 Episode 13, where Karasuma challenges the kids to attempt to attack him with their anti-sensei knives (which are harmless to humans). A monstrous snake suddenly attacks Karasuma, later revealed to be a symbolic representation of Nagisa's sneakiness. [[spoiler:Later, when Takaoka challenges the class to fight him with ''real knives'' (believing that, like his other recruits, they'll choke because they've never used a real weapon), Karasuma gives the knife to Nagisa, who immediately dispatches him]]. Even Karma notes from time to time that there's something deeply disturbing about him, which was implied to be the reason they drifted apart for some time before landing on Class 3-E.
* IcyBlueEyes: Whenever his bloodlust takes over, his usaly kind innocent baby blues turn in to peircing gems that can bring even a pro to a stand still
* IllKillYou: Nagisa asserts this to [[spoiler:Takaoka after he destroys the antidote needed to save his classmates]]. His classmates are perfectly willing to believe he'd actually go through with it.
* ImportantHaircut: Nagisa tells his mother that once he feels like he has earned his desired results in Class E, he will cut his hair after graduation. [[spoiler:In the epilogue, we see that he has lived up to his word.]]
* InelegantBlubbering: [[spoiler:After dealing the deathblow to Koro-sensei, he's the first of the students to break into heavy sobbing. It's ''not pretty''.]]
* InsecureLoveInterest: Nagisa has such a low self-esteem that he thinks there's no way a girl falls for him. He actually thinks Kayano might hate him for [[spoiler:kissing her.]]
* KillTheOnesYouLove: [[spoiler:At the end of the series, the whole class were forced to kill Koro-sensei, but special mention goes to Nagisa, who volunteers to deal the fatal blow.]]
* KillingIntent: He can make middle school bullies and [[spoiler:two of the government's most elite soldiers]] lose their composure and tremble in fear through killing intent alone, symbolized by a gigantic snake. [[spoiler:This is played with come Chapter 128, where it is revealed that some of his covert bloodlust actually belongs to Kayano, who used him to conceal herself until the time is ripe for killing Koro-sensei.]]
* LegacyCharacter: [[spoiler:In the epilogue, Nagisa, now a schoolteacher himself, takes on the legacy left by Koro-sensei in rehabilitating social outcasts, symbolized by his serpentine aura being replaced with an image of his beloved sensei.]]
* LetsGetDangerous: He's known to everyone as a kind, meek student without any noteworthy physical abilities, though a few characters catch glimpses of his potential as an assassin.
** When Karasuma chooses him to [[spoiler:fight Takaoka in a duel, most characters couldn't comprehend why... until Nagisa flawlessly takes Takaoka down using his wits and killing intent, even though the match was rigged against him.]]
** When he's normal, he's so normal Karma thought he was so un-scary that it was scary, because Karma had just seen how dangerous he could be but couldn't detect anything about him that gave that away. And when he's not normal, even when facing a vastly stronger opponent his classmates seem to be more afraid ''of'' him than ''for'' him.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Kayano admits that the only reason [[spoiler:she never completely lost her mind due to the loss of her family and her misguided vendetta]] is because Nagisa filled her heart with warmth.
* TheLoad: [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by himself, as he points out that accompanying his female classmates while being dressed up as a girl was completely pointless in the end. Though, Karma thinks [[RuleOfFunny it would be obviously funny]].
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: He has shoulder-length hair, which only contributes to his girly looks. [[spoiler:Turns out his mother doesn't allow him to cut his hair because she wants him to look like a girl.]]
* LoveMartyr: The Graduation Book Time reveals that when his parents separated, he chose to live with Hiromi out of concern for her wellbeing, even if he has to bear the brunt of her hysteric fits. He's willing to put up with her constant abuse and MyBelovedSmother tendencies just because he loves her and doesn't want her to be alone.
* MarshmallowHell: Irina tries to extract information on Koro-sensei's weaknesses by smothering him with her breasts. A couple of outsider students find themselves incredibly jealous of him.
* MaybeEverAfter: [[spoiler:His and Kayano's status is up in the air as of the epilogue.]]
* TheNarrator: Most of the anime and manga is narrated by Nagisa.
* NervesOfSteel: Nagisa tends to keep his cool whenever he's in a situation where his life is at risk. Koro-sensei notes that this is one of the important aspects of an assassin.
* NiceGuy: Nagisa is meek, very sweet towards his classmates, and won't easily let his emotions get the best of him. Even after showing off some terrifying displays of bloodlust, his classmates still respect him for his kindness.
* NiceHat: Sports one as an adult, [[http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/assassinationclassroom/images/c/c1/Adult_Nagisa.png/revision/latest?cb=20161108071142 shown here]].
* NightmareFace: An unusual example, but his innocent smiling faces have given [[spoiler:Takaoka]] some serious nightmares.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: [[spoiler:He briefly suffers one from Takaoka in their final showdown in Episode 22. It doesn't put Nagisa down, however, and ends up terrifying him with his sheer assassination skills while never failing to put on a sweet smile like it was nothing.]]
* NotSoAboveItAll: While he's usually Class 3-E's OnlySaneMan, he won't hesitate to get a little mischievous when a plan calls for messing with Koro-sensei or one of the uppity students from the main campus.
* ObliviousToHisOwnDescription: It has been remarked that he is the only person who doesn't realize just how dangerous his KillingIntent is.
* ObliviousToLove: Even after the [[spoiler:[[TheBigDamnKiss 15-hit kiss combo]] incident]], Nagisa is pretty unaware of Kayano's crush on him. Karma warns her that Nagisa will never figure out how she feels unless she tells him directly.
* OddFriendship: With his long-time friend Karma (in contrast to his good chemistry with Sugino). Where Nagisa is meek but subtle, Karma is outgoing and reckless.
* OlderThanHeLooks: [[spoiler:Seven years later, and he's only grown a paltry three centimeters (barely an inch). As a result, he looks way too young for a 22-year-old.]]
* OrdinaryMiddleSchoolStudent: Thoroughly normal, though in keeping with this trope there are a couple hidden special things about him.
* OutOfFocus: During Season 2 Episode 8, which heavily focuses on Karasuma. This is probably the only episode where he doesn't even get a ''single line''.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: He is the shortest boy in the class at 159cm (5'2"), and he can take down people taller and bulkier than him with ease.
* PostKissCatatonia: He passes out after receiving a 30-hit kiss from Irina.
* PreMortemOneLiner: [[spoiler:Before tasing Takaoka unconscious in their final fight, he simply "thanks" him.]]
* PsychoticSmirk: Has an utterly chilling one when he gets serious.
* RageBreakingPoint: After keeping his composure together while trying to [[spoiler:appease Takaoka in order to obtain the antidote to the lethal virus afflicting his classmates]], he finally loses it when [[spoiler:Takaoka destroys the antidote anyways.]]
* RaisedAsTheOppositeGender: The reason for his feminine tendencies. [[spoiler:His mother is a psychotic ControlFreak who doesn't let him cut his hair, and often wishes aloud that he was born a girl.]]
* RedHerring: Perhaps the ultimate example, [[spoiler:in that some of his bloodlust actually belongs to Kayano/Akari]].
* SanitySlippage: Suffers a brief but terrifying one when [[spoiler:Takaoka destroys the antidote despite Nagisa having complied to his demands.]] Though Terasaka is able to [[GetAHoldOfYourselfMan snap him out of it]] quickly enough, his classmates are all willing to believe that he could’ve and would’ve actually killed him.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The Sensitive Guy to Karma's Manly Man.
* ShrinkingViolet: While not nearly as timid as Okuda, he's fairly quiet and withdrawn, so only speaks when he feels he has something to contribute. This greatly assists his assassin skills, because no one can see him coming. [[spoiler:He probably developed these tendencies so he wouldn't provoke his mother's violent temper.]]
* ShyBlueHairedGirl: A male example. He is a reserved, polite, and quiet boy, in stark contrast to FieryRedhead Karma.
* SignificantBirthDate: The Roll Book Time reveals that he was born on July 20, the same as Eishi Sasazuka from ''Manga/MajinTanteiNougamiNeuro'', series author Yuusei Matsui's previous work and himself another natural assassin. Also the birthdate of Alexander the Great, a strategic genius.
* SilkHidingSteel: Male version. He is certainly not your traditional badass, but he can make himself appear so innocent that a man intent on beating him into submission was stunned into inaction long enough for him to get in position for what could easily have been a killing blow. [[spoiler:Even in their rematch, when his opponent was expecting it.]]
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Although he probably has his dad's hair and eyes, everything else on his face makes him resemble his mother.
* SupportingProtagonist: From Chapter 1 onward, he's been making note of every strength and weakness of Koro-sensei. [[spoiler:Subverted come Chapter 177, where he volunteered to deal the fatal blow to Koro-sensei.]]
* SurprisinglyGoodEnglish: English is his strongest subject, and across the class he is second only to Nakamura. We get to see one of Nagisa's graded English assignments in Chapter 2. It's not perfect, but it's legible. For added attention to detail, there are even a couple of spelling errors that are pointed out.
-->'''Note:''' "There aren't many grammatical errors and it wraps up nicely. What an excellent journal entry!!"
* TearsOfJoy: His reaction after [[spoiler:seeing his parents reconcile under Koro-sensei's guidance.]]
* TearsOfRemorse: [[spoiler:After finally landing the fatal stab to Koro-sensei at the end of Chapter 177 / Season 2 Episode 24, he immediately breaks down crying over being forced to kill the one person who helped him discover his passion and transcend his inner demons.]]
* TranquilFury: When [[spoiler:Takaoka blows up the antidote needed to save his friends]], he develops DullEyesOfUnhappiness and not-so-calmly announces [[spoiler:his intention to kill him]]. After Koro-sensei and Terasaka talk him out of diving into a full blown UnstoppableRage, his anger cools into a peaceful, terrifying smile as he prepares to [[spoiler:use the "secret killing technique" on Takaoka.]]
* TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior: It's present for the entire class, but he's a very notable case. He's just too much of a natural at assassinations, which becomes even more troubling when juxtaposed with his usual behavior.
* WaistcoatOfStyle: He's the only one student who wears the waistcoat without the blazer over it.
* WasItAllALie: He asks this to [[spoiler:Kayano/Akari when she reveals her true identity and motives. She coldly states that it was and everything was just an act to carry out her revenge. However, Nagisa refuses to believe this, and it pays off after Kayano, freed of her tentacles' control, admits that her school life had a profound effect on her.]]
* WeakButSkilled: Takaoka notes that Nagisa is the weakest of the boys, with physical stats closer to that of a girl's. A few pages later, Karasuma is staring at Nagisa in awe as [[spoiler:he managed to take down Takaoka in a matter of seconds]] and noting that Nagisa's talent never would have been discovered in the course of a normal school life. Ends up on the less-favorable end of this trope when fighting [[spoiler:Karma during the civil war game. While he got Karma into a powerful choke hold almost instantly, Karma was able to negate it and stand up, with Nagisa still locked around his neck, from sheer strength. While Isogai and Maehara struggle to rein in Karma, Nagisa was easily restrained by Sugino.]]
* WellDoneSonGuy: It's not brought up often, but his parents haven't looked him in the eye ever since he landed in Class 3-E, and he would very much like to make, if not them, at least ''someone'' proud of him. And he's literally willing to kill to reach that goal.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: Chapter 144 reveals that Nagisa and Karma used to be closer during seventh-grade, but slowly grew apart until they were just classmates. Nagisa thought Karma grew bored of his mediocrity. In truth, Karma feared his covert bloodlust. Once they were both in Class 3-E, they started interacting with each other again, but their relationship is now clouded with some lingering doubts and fears.
* WhenYouComingHomeDad: Nagisa outright says that his father [[spoiler:left home because he didn't want to deal with his mother's psychosis]]. Therefore, they don't get to see each other often, which is unfortunate because theirs seems to be one of the very few positive parent-child relationships in the series. Nagisa seems to like him much more than his mother, who he lives with. [[spoiler: This turns out to be true as in chapter 113, which reveals that his mother is quite abusive.]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: His hair is light blue.

->''"I think not enjoying yourself in a classroom where it's okay to kill is such a waste."''

Nagisa's long-time classmate who joined late due to being suspended from school for trashing his teacher's office. He started off holding a major grudge against all teachers, and as such is one of the students most dedicated to the assassination. Koro-sensei helped him get over that particular issue, but he is still a near-sociopath who loves to beat people who aren't his classmates into unconsciousness.

3rd best marksmanship, boys' side.
----

* AcademicAthlete: Karma is one of the best students in academics and sports (in fact, he would be one of the Five Virtuosos if he hadn't stood up for the bullied class 3-E student). Too bad he's a lazy delinquent.
* ArcVillain: While not exactly a straight up villain, he was definitely an antagonist to Koro-sensei in Chapters 4-6 (Season 1 Episode 3).
* AwesomeMcCoolname: In contrast to Kimura, who's embarrassed by his first name "Justice", Karma genuinely likes his name, which is a result of his parents loving Indian culture.
* AxCrazy: In the beginning of the series, he has shown a crazy obsession for killing Koro-sensei and is always keeping some sort of a weapon with him for that. It gets toned down after he learns to respect his teacher.
* BadassBoast: To no one's surprise, he has some of those from time to time. After his first encounter with Koro-sensei he says, "Don't run away, Koro-sensei. I'll show you what it means to be killed" complete his AnimalMotif, a [[SnakesAreSinister snake eye]], in the background. He also delivers the lines, "You're not gonna rank in the first place, ''I'' will" to Gakushuu Asano, ''even after'' previously failing to beating him and receiving a good dose of a HumblePie. And yes, not without sticking his tongue out, of course.
* {{Bishonen}}: Many of the girls state that he's pretty good looking and would've been a ladykiller id it weren't for his psychopathic tendencies.
* BitingTheHandkerchief: PlayedForDrama, but him biting his [[spoiler:test papers]] is a clear sign of how upset he is over [[spoiler:failing to beat Asano Jr. in the math portion of the first term finals, and on top of that performing worse in the midterms when Class 3-E had a handicap.]] This is omitted in the anime adaptation, as he only crumples them.
* TheBGrade: A bit downplayed in the anime, but he leaves the class immediately after eveyone's test results got revealed then he is seen [[spoiler:crumpling his own test papers]] all alone by a tree. The manga plays it straight with him going far as [[spoiler:biting the corner of his exam papers]].
* BrilliantButLazy: Aside from assassination attempts, he never seems to put much effort into ''anything'', even training. Not that it affects his overall performance much. [[DeconstructedTrope Comes to bite him in the ass]] [[spoiler:during the first term finals where he performs badly enough to go from 4th to 13th place in school rankings. Certainly, he still did great for someone who didn't study at all, but he ''could have done better''. And, all involved ''know this''.]]
* BrutalHonesty: Goes well with his direct and courageous nature, as he has no qualms about pointing out people's flaws to their face regardless of whether it hurts them or not. For example, when the whole class is cautious about mentioning the weird accent a dangerous assassain had, Karma casually asks the assassain about it like he is asking about the weather. The rest of the class, then, expresses gratitude for Karma's existence.
* BloodKnight: He is usually the first one who gets involved in a fight, even when he hasn't agitated for it in the first place. And just [[http://www.mangareader.net/assassination-classroom/65/13 look at his face]] while engaged in real combat with an adult assassin! Koro-sensei notes that Karma prefers fightig opponents all-out, over executing a covert assassination.
* BreakTheHaughty:
** Karma gets a little too proud of his early successes against Koro-sensei. However, all he really managed to do was to draw his full attention, causing him to put Karma in his place by dealing with his attempts in the most offhanded and humiliating ways until Karma is driven to a SuicideAttack. Fortunately for him, Koro-sensei always fixes what he breaks.
** Chapter 54 really puts him in his place when [[spoiler:his overall ranking slips after failing to adequately study for the first-term finals]]. This ends up [[DeconstructedTrope deconstructed]] later on. [[spoiler:Afterwards he starts [[HeroicSelfDeprecation calling himself an idiot]], remarking that Koro-sensei would get on his case if his scores in the next finals were anything but perfect, and when he does get a perfect score he obviously feels more relieved than excited and accomplished.]]
** Near the end of the series, Korosensei interrupts one of Karma's fights and gives him a talk about how violence is not always the answer. He swallows his own pride when dealing with [[spoiler:Craig Hojo's Wolfpack]], he bows to them and apologizes in English so they can understand and even obeys when they tell him to recite the apology in Japanese to mock him. Consequently, they let Yada go after having a good laugh over Karma's behaviour.
** Terasaka gives him a good dose after defeating Itona using Karma's plan. Karma refers to himself as Terasaka's boss, who is none too pleased with the statement, causing him to throw Karma down into the water while the rest of the class splashes him.
* BrokenAce: One one hand, he is one of the most physically capable students, having ranked third in marksmanship, as well as the best in academic performance and the second-best track record among the normal human students when it comes to threatening Koro-sensei. On the other hand, he is still not all there, however good he is at things he tries. It's partly down to having been let down before.
* BrokenPedestal: A teacher he looked up to protected him from the consequences of his {{Bully Hunt|er}}ing habits because of his good grades... until he targeted the "wrong" person, who so happened to have been caught bullying a Class 3-E student. The pedestal breaking is (very) graphically depicted by the teacher crumbling to dust until only a skeleton remains. Which is then followed by showing the aftermath of Karma ''utterly'' trashing said teacher's office in retaliation, with the teacher himself being completely terrified even though Karma did not lay a hand on him.
* BullyHunter: It was this hobby of his that landed him in Class 3-E when he beat up a top-ranking student in defense of a member of said class. He still gets massive kick out of seeking out and harassing individuals with nasty personalities.
* ButterflyKnife: For added cool, the anime gives Karma one during his introductory attack on Koro-sensei. He even shows off a few tricks before pocketing it.
* CharacterDevelopment: Sheds his BrilliantButLazy traits after his TheReasonYouSuckSpeech and BreakTheHaughty moments, as shown in Chapter 76, when a panel depicting his room shows that he has actually been studying. It pays off during [[spoiler:the second semester midterms, where he ranks second, and is the only student in Class 3-E with improved scores despite having insufficiently prepared for the exams.]] His character development is so evident that even Koro-sensei and his peers comment on it.
** In the final exams, Karma is faced with a math question even Asano struggles with. After calmly reading it through, he realizes the answer while acknowledging the talents of everyone around him. Before, he simply disregarded other people's strength, but after getting the highest mark in the exam, he admits he wouldn't have been able to come that far without E Class and Korosensei.
* ChekhovsGun: He has very sharp canines unique only to him. They actually come in handy near the end during [[spoiler:his fight with Nagisa when, in order to prepare for the Stun Clap]], he bites his tongue hard enough to make it bleed, and it turns out to be effective.
* CheshireCatGrin: He's often seen wearing a wide, open-mouthed grin, especially when he's in the middle of ruining someone's day.
* CombatPragmatist: Justified by the nature of the series. His real strength lies in his intelligence and traps.
* CorruptBureaucrat: What he wants to be when he grows up. [[spoiler:In the epilogue, he enters a government admission test, with the intention to carve his name into Japan's political history.]]
* {{Delinquent}}: He often skips classes, loves to pick fights on streets and anywhere, and was suspended before the beginning of the series. Plus, He's also the only character in the series confirmed to have been suspended. Not even [[TheBully Tera]][[DelinquentHair saka]] has gone that far.
* EmptyEyes: Karma's eyes lack the shine his classmates have, making him appear just a bit... ''off'' compared to the others. The only other characters like this are Asano and his father. All three of them pretty much qualify as manipulative psychopaths...
* EveryoneHasStandards: While Karma has no problems committing wanton violence, even goes out of his way to seek it at times, he only does so to people he feels deserves it. And despite this tendency, even he is unnerved by the revelation of Koro-sensei's past as the "God of Death". Karma may be a delinquent with a violent streak, but he has his limits too.
* EvilRedhead: At first, he gave the impression of a genuine psycho, with his red hair a visual cue to how fascinated he was with spilling blood. He becomes more of a FieryRedhead afterward.
* FatalFlaw: His biggest flaws are his excessive {{Pride}} and [[InsufferableGenius]]/[[BrilliantButLazy]] attitude, though they ''occasionally'' can be his strength, most of the times they lead him to failures in which he learns, through the help of Koro-sensei, to accept losing sometimes. See BreakTheHaughty and CharacterDevelopment above.
* FearlessFool: "Fool" may be a strong word, but he is reckless and fearless. He admitted to Okuda that his lack of fear scares him, as he feels he's incapable of being alert, which he realizes could cost him dearly in certain situations.
** Subverted with Nagisa, who Karma eventually admits [[TheDreaded scares him enough that he has to suppress a violent urge to beat him to a pulp]], so much so that it's what caused Karma to distance himself from Nagisa before they were both sent to E-class.
* FirstNameBasis: Most of his classmates, as well as Koro-sensei, call him by his first name. He's called by his last name only very occassionally.
* {{Foil}}: Gakushuu might be one being set up for him, seeing as both students are the strongest of their respective classes. The fact that [[spoiler:Karma lost to him during the first-term finals]] really got to him. Their parallelism is particularly noticeable in the anime where design choices have made them look nearly identical at a glance, aside from their hair and eye colors. Both of them also experience a WakeUpCall moment.
* TheGadFly: Oh boy. Karma has made riling up people and annoying them for no reason his hobby. When Terasaka warns him against challenging Koro-sensei, he retaliates by mentioning that it's not like a certain someone who was scared and peed themselves, referring to that time Terasaka also tried to challenge Koro-sensei but got intimidated by him instead. And this is Karma in only his first appearance.
* GeniusSweetTooth: The smartest student in Class 3-E and has an apparent love of sugary beverages.
* GuileHero: His EstablishingCharacterMoment has him offer Koro-sensei an introductory handshake... with a hand that's secretly covered in anti-sensei fragments. Other highlights include his plan in Chapter 49.
* HandsOffParenting: The [[AllThereInTheManual Class Roll]] reveals that he's from a wealthy family and his parents are rather free-spirited, living under the motto of doing things immediately. It's also stated that his parents spend most of the year traveling and are rarely home as a result, which probably explains his unchecked violent tendencies.
* HellishPupils: His pupils turn to unnatural snake-like ones before he begins to relentlessly taunt Nagisa in the 17th episode of the 2nd season.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: After choking down his helping of HumblePie, he quickly picks up the habit of calling himself stupid.
* HumblePie: See BreakTheHaughty above. And Koro-sensei takes the opportunity to rub it in even further, knowing that those humbling experiences will keep him from ever half-assing things again in the future.
* IShallTauntYou: A common tactic of Karma's that he's very skilled in. If he isn't doing it himself he's coaching others in how to do it.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Karma is initially introduced as a lunatic who was suspended for his problematic behavior at school. However, it's soon revealed the he actually had been a BullyHunter, in addition to being an excellent student. What landed him in Class 3-E wasn't his penchant for mayhem, but rather siding with a Class E student who was being bullied.
* KarmicTrickster: Not that his name and habit of hunting bullies isn't a warning... and you do need that warning for when he gets serious. Do not provoke him -- [[LetsGetDangerous mayhem ensues]].
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: [[spoiler:At the end of the civil war game, he taps out after Nagisa puts him in a triangle armlock. Even though he has enough strength left to attempt to tag him out with his knife at hand, he chooses not to after realizing that Nagisa's desire to save Koro-sensei was so strong he's willing to go against his own reservations over fighting.]]
* TheLeader: Type I for [[spoiler:Class E's Red Team]]. He's surprisingly an excellent one too, as he's able to recognize both the strengths and weaknesses of his classmates and how to put said traits to good use.
* ALessonInDefeat: His scores slip during the first term finals because he was arrogant about his intelligence and didn't study hard enough to succeed with the increased difficulty. Fortunately, he takes the lesson to heart, and starts working much harder from then on.
* ManiacTongue: He LOVES to stick his tongue out every time he's being his crazy, playful self, it's like an "[[SillyMeGesture I'm so silly" gesture]] of his own. Also doubles as a CharacterTic.
* ManlyTears: [[spoiler:At the end of Chapter 177, having helped Nagisa assassinate Koro-sensei, Karma is seen openly shedding tears for the one person who helped restore his faith in authority figures and learn the importance of effort.]]
* MeaningfulName: "Karma" is the concept of a person's experiences being a result of his/her past actions, and fitting for a BullyHunter, Karma enjoys giving bullies a dose of their medicine, if a little too much. He also reveals that his parents loved India, and he actually likes it. Also he, himself would be effect when he got [[BreakTheHaughty too arrogant]].
* MusclesAreMeaningless: He has a perfectly average build, and yet is the most physically powerful student in the class, even more so than the muscular Terasaka. He can even pose a threat to trained adults. [[spoiler:And when Nagisa gets him in a tricky choke hold, Karma is able to quickly stand up despite Nagisa hanging off his neck and shoulders.]]
* NightmareFetishist: When asked which girl in 3-E he liked, he immediately said Okuda because of her skill with chemistry, and thus her ability to brew deadly poison. In the anime, he has an imagine spot of her as a cackling witch stirring up something in a cauldron and himself as a demon, and called it a "match made in heaven". His friends are not so sure about the "heaven" part though.
* NotAfraidToDie: Karma jumped off a cliff as part of an assassination attempt. He wasn't sure if Koro-sensei would even try to rescue him, and even if he did, if Karma's plan had gone as he intended he would have fallen to his death after killing Koro-sensei. He's since become a lot less willing to throw his life away, though.
* OddFriendship:
** You wouldn't think a fearless, reckless and outgoing guy like him would be friends with a meek, shy and soft-spoken boy like Nagisa, but they are.
** He's also close friends with [[ShrinkingViolet Okuda]], the only girl in the class who doesn't find him scary. In return, Karma doesn't feel the need to be cautious around her, and even confesses to her about his insecurities regarding his lack of fear. The guidebook even refers to their friendship as the most easy going of the male-female relationships in Class E. The oddness of their relationship doesn't go unnoticed by their peers, who are baffled by it as well.
* OralFixation: Chews things -fingernails, paper, whatever- when he's seriously upset.
* ThePrankster: He ''loves'' to play all types of pranks on literally eveyone, like for example him torturing an adult assassain, even after he already defeated and tied him up, by [[CoolAndUnusualPunishment sticking, ghost pepper, the spiciest pepper in the world, up his nose]] of all places. This is often combined with his mischievous ManiacTongue face.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: He can effortlessly subdue [[BigGuy Terasaka]] using one hand, despite being barely half his size. Inverted, as Karma's not that short since he is 175cm (5'8"), which is an average height for a Japanese teenage boy, while Terasaka is only barely taller at 180cm (5'10") but is bulkier in comparison.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech:
** [[spoiler:On the receiving end from Koro-sensei after he gets lower scores than previously on the first-term finals.]] Of course, it was to help him learn and grow, but it was still harsh-sounding enough to qualify.
** Gives a ruthless one to Nagisa, as well. See TookALevelInJerkAss.
* RedOniBlueOni:
** The Red to Nagisa's Blue, as shown by their hair colors. Karma is violent, vicious and arrogant, while Nagisa is calm, withdrawn and not very confident of himself.
** And to a much lesser degree, The Red Oni to Okuda's Blue one, as he is cocky, somewhat demonic, outgoing, and mischievous, unlike Okuda, who's mild-mannered, bashful, and socially awkward.
* {{Sadist}}: Coming in hand-in-hand with his BloodKnight tendencies, Karma clearly gets kicks out of bringing cruel and unusual harm to people, and often looks for excuses to get involved in fights or pull nasty tricks. He does, however, [[EveryoneHasStandards draw the line at hurting people who he feels haven't done anything to deserve it]], and mostly limits himself to being BullyHunter. His propensity for violence is undeniable, though, as during the [[spoiler:class Civil war game]] Karma's inner monologue displays a disturbing amount of genuine, ''gleeful'' desire to beat [[spoiler: Nagisa]], one of his closest friends, to a bloody pulp.
* ShipperOnDeck: He is one for Nagisa and Kayano, although it's mostly so he can make fun of them.
** He and Nakamura even spend a whole chapter analyzing various relationships in the class. This includes Chiba and Hayami, Kanzaki and Sugino, Isogai and Kataoka and even a little Nakamura and Nagisa, but not much.
* SlasherSmile: Does this creepy very often when planning something sinister.
* SociopathicHero: Unlike Nagisa, he isn't just capable of violence, but enjoys it. A lot. It's scarily obvious he gets a thrill out of dealing physical or psychological torture, and his victims can end up injured or in serious pain. Thankfully, he has enough of a moral compass that he strictly limits his violence to anyone who dares threaten others, especially his classmates.
** Subverted during chapters 147 to 149 with [[spoiler:Nagisa]] of all people, although in context it was within grounds.
* SurprisinglyGoodEnglish: He didn't have to use Koro-sensei's tentacle earphone when he and Nagisa went with Koro-sensei to the movies in Hawaii. And during the pole-toppling game, he is familiar enough to taunt the American exchange students they're up against in English (while he has an accent in the anime, it's all grammatically correct). It's made a bigger deal of in the light novels, where native English speakers occasionally praise his ability in the language. In ''Korotan D'', he talks to an American director who is impressed with his language skills, and later with an actor who was harassing Okuda.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Strawberry milk.
* {{Troll}}: When he starts [[ItAmusedMe really enjoying himself]], he can cross the line from the BullyHunter to outright troll in seconds. And, you ''really'' don't want him to do that when he's holding tubes of wasabi paste or anywhere near [[BlazingInfernoHellfireSauce Scotch Bonnets]]... comes rather too close to ForTheEvulz for comfort.
* TrueCompanions: Despite his sometimes aloof behavior, he gets along very well with his classmates and he never harms any of them, despite being a BloodKnight. He's also a BullyHunter because he cares for his classmates and underdogs.
* UnskilledButStrong: In comparison to Nagisa, who has more natural talent as an assassin [[spoiler:and got Karma trapped in a flying triangular choke as soon as Karma grabbed him in their fight, but Karma is able to stand up even with Nagisa dangling from his neck and almost punch back all from sheer brute strength.]]
* WakeUpCall: Gets this after the mid-term exams. His classmates studied hard both to ace the exams and win their bet with the elite of the school. But since he relied too much on his natural talent and didn't study, he doesn't even make it to the top ten. Kuro-Sensei chides him for it and tells him just because he has talent, that's no excuse to stop honing it, especially when his other classmates are doing their best to better themselves. Karma takes it to heart and becomes more active with the other E-Class students going forward.
* WeakButSkilled: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. While he is quite athletic, he's physically outmatched by a lot of his classmates and has to rely on his wit and martial art skills to win most of his battles. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by Itona when he was comparing him with [[DumbMuscle Terasaka]].
Luckily for both of them, Korosensei saves him by forming a web out of his tentacles and covering them with adhesive mucus to save and restrain Karma from shooting him.
* YellowEyesOfSneakiness: Karma has yellow-gold eyes, and is most dangerous for his high intelligence and prankster tendencies.
* YourWorstMemory: When he launches a SuicideAttack on Koro-sensei, he exclaims that he can see that unforgettable moment a teacher let him down and broke his promise to protect him, with a psychotic laugh, as if [[DissonantLaughter his life is flashing in front of his eyes]]. That... traumatizing memory was the defining moment Karma lost his trust in teachers.

->''"A true blade is one you don't even show to your close friends."''

She's one of Nagisa's closest friends, and like him, she usually stands in the background and supports the others. She is the student who came up with Koro-sensei's name.
----
* ACupAngst: She's really self-conscious about her chest, and claims to be a B-Cup whenever asked. A RunningGag is her bringing it up regardless of how relevant it is to the current situation.
* AesopAmnesia: Even after learning (in the flashback arc) that dishonesty is a painful and ineffective way of dealing with life's problems, she still instinctively lies to get herself out of awkward situations. This is actually a bit of FridgeBrilliance: Something like that can't be handled so quickly, especially when it's something of a "bad habit".
* AffectionateNickname: She is called "Kayanocchi" by Okano.
* AlliterativeName: '''Ka'''ede '''Ka'''yano.
* ApologyGift: Doubling as a Valentine's gift, Kayano gives Koro-sensei a picture of her sister in a bikini. A nice little gift for someone with just over a month to live, and partly [[spoiler:as atonement for her misplaced vendetta against him.]]
* ArtifactAlias: [[spoiler:Kaede Kayano isn't her real name, but she asks her friends to keep calling her that as a nickname even after her real identity is revealed, since she came to like it.]]
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:She is the first to join Nagisa's "blue" (save Koro-sensei) side during the civil war game as penance for having attempted to kill Koro-sensei out of MisplacedRetribution.]]
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:Koro-sensei managed to maintain every last drop of blood and cell the second "Reaper" blew out of her chest, and carefully put it all back.]]
* BadassAdorable: Like Nagisa, Kaede is both cute and deadly [[spoiler:even after her tentacles are removed. She would have wiped Okano clean out in the civil war paintball game had it not been for Kimura catching her from behind. The exact stats of her true capability are yet to be seen, but it can be assumed that they are the same or similar to Itona's.]]
* BareYourMidriff: The outfit she wore while [[ItMakesSenseInContext pretending to be a fish]].
* BecomingTheMask: [[spoiler:She infiltrated Class 3-E to be able to kill Koro-sensei as part of a personal vendetta, though she genuinely enjoyed school life and even started to warm up to Koro-sensei, more so after her tentacles were removed.]]
* BerserkButton: She hates big boobs, and it's usually PlayedForLaughs. Though there are certain exceptions.
* BreakTheCutie: In the space of one day, Kayano realizes [[spoiler:that her excruciating year-long vendetta against Koro-sensei was all for nothing, that she was really in love with a boy she told she despised, and that she nearly murdered a (relatively) innocent man]]. She spends the next two weeks recovering both emotionally and physically.
* CainAndAbel: Played with, as [[spoiler:she's a roundabout Cain to Koro-Sensei's Abel (who'd be her brother in law had he married her sister).]]
* ClingyJealousGirl: Shown to be jealous whenever Irina kisses Nagisa.
* CombatTentacles: [[spoiler:In Chapter 128, two long tentacles pop out from the back of her nape.]]
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: When the students push to have Irina kicked out of Class 3-E, her reason isn't her initially poor teaching and lack of faith in the class, as it was with the other students. It was her boobs.
* DamselInDistress: In the Kyoto arc, and it would have happened again in the Assassination Island arc if the class hadn't decided to forego the hostage trade-off and just infiltrate the Fukuma Palace Hotel.
* ADayInTheLimelight: Despite the fact that she's a major viewpoint student, she usually stands in the background or supports them. She shines in Chapter 80 for the first time, with very little foreshadowing (see FreezeFrameBonus below). [[spoiler:Chapter 128 onwards is all about her.]]
* DeclarationOfProtection: [[spoiler:For Koro-sensei, once she learns of his past and the true circumstances of her sister's death, to the point that she immediately joins Nagisa's "blue" (save Koro-sensei) side during the civil war game.]]
* {{Determinator}}: While she's usually a support type character, she's very adept at getting things done when she really puts her mind into something. [[spoiler:According to Itona, having tentacles is an agonizing experience for any normal human. Kayano was able to wear them for a full year without even hinting about how much pain she was in. In Chapter 131, he guesses that this was only possible because she never actually ''used'' the tentacles during that year. Once she does, her mind starts eroding fast.]]
--> ''[reading about [[spoiler:tentacles]]]'':'[[spoiler:In exchange for overwhelming strength, lack of maintenance causes fierce pain]]...?' [[DealWithTheDevil Fine by me]].''
* EvilCostumeSwitch: After [[spoiler:revealing her true identity and becoming controlled by her tentacles]], she changes her uniform for a black MinidressOfPower.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: After [[spoiler:revealing her true identity as Akari Yukimura]], she leaves her long wavy hair at the loose instead of the cat-ears-looking hairstyle.
* FatalFlaw: She is absolutely, unrepentantly driven by emotion. Her plan would probably have ''worked'' if she hadn't gotten so wrapped up in "Kayano"'s emotions and mindset.]]
* {{Foil}}: Of the [[RedOniBlueOni red]] variety, to Nagisa. She'd probably like to be something a ''little'' [[ShipTease more intense]], but until he bothers to notice, she'll settle for being the friend he can bounce ideas off of who occasionally makes good points of her own. She provides much of the useful excuse for his FirstPersonPeripheralNarrator status.
** In chapter 131, it's retroactively revealed that their character arcs began the same way: [[spoiler:killing themselves in the hope that doing so would destroy Koro-sensei.]]
** To Karma, as well. Unlike Karma, whom Nagisa knows for a long time and is a genuine friend despite his psychotic tendencies, she is only known by him for a year and, despite her nice girl image, [[spoiler:only hangs out with him to cover up her hatred towards Koro-sensei]]. While Karma is open with his bloodlust, she [[spoiler:hides her bloodlust in plain sight]]. Lastly, Karma wants to kill Korosensei for fun, while Kayano wants to kill Korosensei for [[spoiler:revenge.]]
* FreezeFrameBonus: In the end of Chapter 80, there is a very little minor detail of Kayano's appearance. A minor detail that foreshadows a [[spoiler:big plot twist]]. [[http://scontent.cdninstagram.com/hphotos-xap1/t51.2885-15/e15/10661259_798108633578123_1563893368_n.jpg See here]].
* GenkiGirl: An upbeat character, especially when it comes to pudding and other sweets.
* HairIntakes: Invoked. She seems to have a cat-ears-looking hairstyle, but it's shown not to be natural.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: In the final battle, she draws the enemies' attention so that Koro-sensei can recupirate, knowing full well it's unlikely she'll survive but still doing so as part of her [[TheAtoner atonement.]] She is ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice as a result.]]
* HiddenDepths: [[spoiler:She is the best-hidden of everyone in Class 3-E, beyond even Nagisa. Most of her personality is a facade made to hide the hatred she harbors for Koro-sensei, who she assumes killed her sister. The facade, however, gradually [[BecomingTheMask becomes real]].]]
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler:Happens to her during the final battle, courtesy of the second "Reaper". Koro-sensei resurrects her using his newly-learned medical knowledge.]]
* ImpliedLoveInterest: She's seen hanging out with Nagisa quite a lot and is implied she has feelings for him, which is later confirmed after [[spoiler:[[TheBigDamnKiss his 15-hit kiss combo]]]], but it still isn't clear if Nagisa reciprocates those feelings. [[spoiler:Ultimately, the epilogue doesn't give us a definite answer either.]]
* ItRunsInTheFamily: One can only wonder if [[spoiler:being sisters caused both she and Aguri to fall in love with natural assassins: Nagisa and Koro-sensei, respectively.]]
** Even [[spoiler:Yanagisawa]] laughed about how [[spoiler:she died in front of him like her sister did.]]
* ItsPersonal: Unlike the other students, she has a personal reason to kill Koro-sensei. [[spoiler:To avenge her sister Aguri.]]
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Despite her feelings for Nagisa, she decides to not let him know how she feels so he can concentrate on his chosen career as a teacher and she doesn't want to distract him.
* KnightOfCerebus: An odd example because she was present from the very begining, but the reveal of her true nature is a major WhamEpisode that makes the whole class rethink everything about her and leads directly into even more major reveals about [[spoiler:Koro-sensei's past.]]
* LettingHerHairDown: At the end of the Kyoto arc, after taking a bath. [[spoiler:Does it again after revealing her true self.]]
* LetsGetDangerous: Kayano actually proves that she can fight on par with her fellow students [[spoiler:when she manages to keep up with and dodge all of Okano's attacks. Apparently being a child actress as honed her very well physically, but she had to hold back due to her real plan (and also the tentacles she'd previously had caused so much constant pain that she couldn't concentrate enough to use her full potential).]]
* MasterActor: She's actually a talented child actress, renowned for her skill to play any kind of role flawlessly. [[spoiler:Due to this, she was able to fool Kunugigaoka into believing the fake identity she created. In a positive manner, her career has helped her learn some combat skills, shown in her duel with Okano during the civil war game]]. During the Valentine's arc, it's shown that she loses this ability when it comes to her feelings for Nagisa. [[spoiler:The epilogue reveals that she has returned to showbiz.]]
* MaybeEverAfter: [[spoiler:Her and Nagisa's relationship remains ambiguous as of the epilogue, with her body language implying she may be pregnant, even as she deflects Hara's questions about their status.]]
* MisplacedRetribution: She thought Koro-sensei [[spoiler:killed her sister Aguri]]. In truth, [[spoiler:she was fatally struck with an antimatter tentacle meant to contain him while trying to stop his rampage after learning he only has a year left to live. She just happened to get there shortly after Aguri's death and before Koro-sensei took off, causing her to assume that he killed her.]]
* MundaneUtility: In the epilogue, she uses her assassination skills to do her own stunts during her acting career.
* NewTransferStudent: She transferred to the class early in the year [[spoiler:in order to get the chance to kill Koro-sensei and avenge her sister]].
* NiceGirl: She's a fairly nice student when she's not being plagued by her ACupAngst. [[spoiler:Even after revealing herself as the vengeful but misguided Akari, ultimately she proves herself a loyal friend.]]
* NotQuiteBackToNormal: A comment by [[spoiler:Yanagisawa]] indicates that [[spoiler:she retains superior spatial vision even after her tentacles are removed.]]
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: [[spoiler:Her real name is Akari Yukimura. "Kaede Kayano" is actually the name of an one-shot character she once played and that she decided to use as an alias to infiltrate the class. Since she has come to like it, she wants everyone to keep calling her by her alias.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness:
** Okano's reaction to Kayano being not disgusted by Yada's big boobs.
** In Chapter 80, she appoints herself leader of the "Pudding Killsplosion Plan". The other students [[LampshadeHanging lampshade]] that she's always devoted to logistical support.
* OutOfFocus: Even though she's supposed to be a main character just like Nagisa and Karma, Kayano doesn't really stand out much and has only been prominent in her ADayInTheLimelight chapter. [[spoiler:This changes once she reveals her true identity.]]
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Her skills lie in logical and logistical support and pudding-making, not combat, so she becomes this when compared to the likes of Nagisa and Karma. [[spoiler:She's actually not what she appears to be. Being far more skillful than Nagisa and Karma, she invoked this trope by using her skills as a prodigal child actress to hide her true intentions to kill Koro-sensei as part of a vendetta.]]
* PaintingTheFourthWall: A hilarious example in Chapter 83. Several students are BurningWithAnger over the frame job on Koro-sensei, but we can tell by the flaming "0" over her head that Kayano is much angrier about being declared "Forever 0". Later, she screams at the real culprit that her cup size is B... and this time the flames ''form the shape of an "A"''. Nagisa even notices!
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Like Nagisa, she is the shortest student in the class at 146cm (4'9"), but she has also shown herself to be quite the fighter.
* PlayingWithFire: [[spoiler:She can set her tentacles on fire when her body overheats.]]
* PostKissCatatonia: [[spoiler:In Chapter 132, Nagisa knocks her out with a 15-hit kiss.]]
* PregnantBadass: In the epilogue, she's retained enough of her training to be able to do death defying stunts on her own, and she's implied to be pregnant.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Once [[spoiler:she reveals her tentacles and her true identity]], her eyes turn red.
* ReplacementGoldfish: [[spoiler:Shiro states that he intended to take her for a truly villainous version of this, after she got stabbed.]]
* RevengeBeforeReason: [[spoiler:She states she doesn't care what she has to do, who she gets involved or even if she dies, the only thing she wants to do is take revenge for her sister, who she thinks was killed by Koro-sensei. Later subverted, as it turns out she was merely under the influence of the tentacles and in reality, she had already become fond of Koro-sensei, enough to start questioning whether she should hear his side of the story before taking action.]]
* SeashellBra: A feature of her fish costume.
* StageName:
** [[spoiler:As an actress, she uses the name "Haruna Mase".]]
** [[spoiler:Even Kaede Kayano is a stage name, taken from a one-shot character she played in the past. Her real name is Akari Yukimura.]]
* SuperDrowningSkills: She can't swim worth beans. She had to wear a lifebuoy to keep afloat during a plan that involved pretending to be a fish creature. [[spoiler:Her reason for not being able to swim is revealed in Chapter 128 where she seems to be similar to Koro-sensei and Itona, who also cannot swim.]]
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: She has golden eyes, [[spoiler:and it's later revealed she's not as normal as she seems. She has tentacles like Koro-sensei and Itona.]]
* SureLetsGoWithThat: After [[spoiler:Nagisa kisses her]], he expresses concern that doing so ruined their friendship. Kayano, [[spoiler:who had been hoping for a little more than just friendship]], quickly replies that they're still friends... thereby shooting herself in the foot.
* SweetTooth: Chapter 80 reveals her love for pudding. She gets the opportunity to use pudding for an assassination. [[spoiler:This makes her similar to Koro-sensei and Itona.]]
* TenderTears: She cries in relief after [[spoiler:Nagisa assures her that the class still acknowledges and loves her as Kaede Kayano, even after revealing herself as the vengeful but misguided Akari Yukimura]], and again in grief [[spoiler:in the ending after she and Class 3-E were forced to kill Koro-sensei, who she swore to protect as her last living reminder of Aguri.]]
* ThisLooksLikeAJobForAquaman: In the sports festivals, she participates in the net race game and she crawls really fast through the net because she has a flat chest.
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler:Not only was her vendetta against Koro-sensei pointless and misguided, but ultimately it benefited no one but Yanagisawa, who not only abetted her theft of one of his tentacles, but also intended to use her as his backup for his own (petty) vendetta in case Itona fails (which he does).]]
* WalkingSpoiler: The reveals about her post-Chapter 128 are one of the biggest twists in the entire series.
* WhamLine:
** [[spoiler:''"I love you, Koro-sensei. Now, die."'']]
** [[spoiler:''"I'm the younger sister of Aguri Yukimura. Get it now, murderer?"'']]
* YouKilledMyFather: [[spoiler:She wants to kill Koro-sensei because she blames him for the death of her sister.]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Her hair is green. [[spoiler:Unnaturally green actually, since she dyed it to conceal her real appearance. Her hair is actually black, just like Aguri, to which she reverts in the ending.]]
