Known as the Scholar of Ersis and the Archivist, Faust (born Franz Irinith Faust) is an Arkn-Human hybrid and the illegitimate youngest son of Tabbris Irinith. He is a scholar of Arkn and Dekn culture, and one of two current apprentices of Redgrave.

* The Ace: He's the heir to Tabbris Irinith; bright, clever, cultured, well-educated, a swordsman, a Blood Flags champion, and the first Irinith to summon Gav'reel's Thorne in many generations. * TraumaCongaLine: After receiving a letter regarding the false prophecy of the Agonistes made by Marchosias, Faust returns to Avantas'tol, only to be captured by his half-brother and forced to fight the soldiers of his own kingdom's army, gladiator-style. Faust escapes and is ready to flee, but receives a vision of Gav'reel Irinith that encourages him to remain and fight alongside the resistance. The ensuing warfare (which stretches on for months) leaves Faust so traumatized that he turns to [[DrowningMySorrows drinking]]. The coup finally ends when [[spoiler: Faust accidentally kills his half-brother in front of his own niece]] -- fulfilling the prophecy, and causing Faust to lose the Thorn (possibly for good). Then, in the aftermath, Faust's abusive grandfather informs him that his hero and role model, Gavreel Irinith, [[BrokenPedestal caused a lot of undue death and suffering with his pacifistic morals]]. Faust is left so broken that he leaves Avantas'tol, rejects his family name, and begins training under Redgrave.

Humans who, for various reasons, have been marked by the Hethe to be [[{{Reincarnation}} reincarnated]] through multiple lifetimes. They typically incarnate as both an Arkn and a Dekn, before being born as a human with the powers of both.

* TheChosenMany: Risen are humans who have been specially chosen by the Hethe to be reborn through multiple lives, allowing them to not only acquire several lifetimes worth of skills and abilities, but powers that are normally inaccessible to humans (including Arkn Ethric magic and Dekn mental powers).
* CreepyChild: Many full-blood Risen children (i.e. those on their final incarnation) are this. They often seem wise beyond their years, and have strange supernatural abilities which they tap into inadvertently--often to disastrous effect.
* GooGooGodlike: All final-stage, pure-blood Risen are born "slightly glowing" as a sign of their innate supernatural power.
* ImHavingSoulPains: Some final stage Risen experience "metaphysical seizures" -- debilitating mental, physical, and spiritual pain -- while acquiring the memories of their past lives.
* PastLifeMemories: Risen retain the memories, skills, and abilities of all of their previous lives. Usually, these traits lie dormant (save for the occasional [[DreamingOfTimesGoneBy dream]] flashback, or burst of information). In their final, "full-blood" life, however, they acquire ''all'' information from ''all'' of their past lives. Fortunately, the process occurs gradually and typically concludes in early adulthood; ''un''fortunately, it's often accompanied by severe physical and metaphysical symptoms, ranging from headaches to [[ImHavingSoulPains "metaphysical seizures"]] and even [[SplitPersonalityTakeover possession-like episodes]].
* SplitPersonalityTakeover: When a final-stage Risen regains the memories of their past lives, it isn't unusual for then to become overwhelmed and temporarily regress into one of their former personalities. * CoolSword: In their Arkn life, Ryael possessed “Reignbreaker”, the legendary sword that killed Gavreel Irinith. It was said to have been capable of changing form based on the preference of the wielder, and to drive men to murder for the longing of it. * DisappearedDad: Ryael is currently looking for their human dad, who vanished while searching for Daniel Morrow (the guardian of the Morrow family).

* ICallItVera: Ryael's violin is named "Ashling Telma" (a.k.a. the Black Violin).
* IHaveManyNames: They've been called Ryael'Ayre Sorin, Ryael'Ayre Sorin Callokure, the Bard of the Black Violin, the Ruach'mor, the Dancer Delgaliel, and the Eld'strixa Monachiel -- and that's just their ''Arkn'' names and titles. Their human names have included Ryan and Ryael Morrow.
* KindHeartedCatLover: They’re very fond of their pet cat, Mirrin (and post pictures of him on their blog).
* MusicalAssassin: In Ryael's Arkn life (in the words of Faust), "basically they were a hero and badass who went around doing hero things and committed murder by violin."
