* BenevolentBoss: While he's commonly seen as a ruthless loan shark, it's worth noting that he charges no interest in his home loans, gives you as much time as you need to repay him, and instantly gives you a job without an interview, or without reviewing qualifications or references in order to pay it off.

* MyNaymeIs: In the French version, his name is "Djason". While French people ''do'' use the English pronunciation for the name "Jason" (which, to French ears, indeed sounds like there is a "D" before the "J"), it's fairly uncommon to see it actually ''spelled'' like this.

* UsedToBeASweetKid: Inverted with Reese, who says in ''Happy Home Designer'' that she was a mean and rude when she was younger, but now is a perfectly pleasant adult.

* ByNoIMeanYes: His response to the player asking if there's Wi-Fi available in his campground; he wants people to experience nature instead of staring at their phones while they're there... but yes, there's Wi-Fi.

* SmellySkunk: He's a Skunk, but no comments are made about his smell, [[StealthPun however...]]

* PunnyName: She's a sow named Joan who deals with the "Stalk" market. Referencing the DOW-Jones stock exchange.

* LegacyCharacter: She now fills Joan's role as the turnip merchant, implying that her grandmother has either retired or passed away between ''New Leaf'' and ''New Horizons''.

An artistic, red chameleon introduced in ''New Horizons'' who hosts the Bug-Off tourney in said game in place of Nat. Sometimes he wanders into your island in search of bugs, and is willing to buy them off you at an up-marked price.

* MistakenNationality: Well, they don't really have nationalities, but the bear Klaus was mistaken to be German, Swiss, Prussian, or Austrian inspired by the translators, while having a face similar to UsefulNotes/JuliusCaesar, this is shown even further in that he wants an ancient Roman bath house as his house in ''Happy Home Designer''. Whoops?

Chip is a beaver who hosts the Fishing Tourney. Starting in ''City Folk'', he appears once a month throughout the year except June, July and August, during which the Bug-Off is hosted instead. In ''New Leaf'', he rewards the player a golden fishing rod if they [[GottaCatchThemAll caught all the fish in the game]], though not including deep-sea creatures. In ''New Horizons'', C.J. hosts the tournament instead.

Nat is a chameleon who hosts the Bug-Off Tournament. He appears once a month during the months of June, July and August. In ''New Leaf'', he rewards the player a golden net if they [[GottaCatchThemAll caught all the bugs in the game]]. In ''New Horizons'', Flick hosts the Bug-Off instead.

* CloudCuckooLander: Julian seems to be this, based on some of his dialogue in ''New Leaf''. The mobile game Animal Crossing Pocket Camp also makes note of his eccentricities.

* CharacterizationMarchesOn: In earlier versions of the series (at least in the English localizations) the character archetype was loosely implied to be a collection of [[CoolOldGuy cool and wacky old guys]], with their [[ScatterbrainedSenior silliness being explained by their age]] and their laziness implying the SeniorSleepCycle. Later editions re-imagined their childish personalities as being literal childishness, now re-framed to be the youngest villager type. Minor details were changed on certain villagers along with this (such as altering ther shading of Doc's mouth so it doesn't resemble a mustache as much) to make their age vague on the other end of the spectrum.

One of the new personalities in ''New Leaf'', villagers with this personality are big sister types. They are a bunch of tough cookies, but they are very outgoing and friendly. They're very protective of their friends.

* {{Retcon}}: Like Smug above, some villagers such as Charlise and Sylvia (originally Peppy and Snooty) were changed into this personality in ''New Leaf''.
