* KatanasAreJustBetter: all Nisei Japanese ship girls possess katanas, with the exception of Chiyoda. Nenohi's has an elongated handle that makes it look more like a nodachi handle than one belonging to a katana, and it's got four big bobbles stuck through it at different lengths along the handle.

* {{Shoutout}}: according to Sanford, [[spoiler:Yamakaze can still be reconstructed despite dying from a stab to the head, but upon reconstruction, Yamakaze must relearn all of her basic ship girl skills like standing/walking on water, cruising, controlling her weapons, etc. from scratch. This is a subtle reference to VideoGame/DarkestDungeon, in which there is a very rare town event that allows you to resurrect one adventurer who's died in your game, but he/she comes back with no equipment and all stats reset to 0.]]

* {{Determinator}}: [[spoiler:compared to her sister Umikaze. When Damon finds her and Umikaze at the Inner Circle base in Mexico, he finds Kawakaze still barely hanging in there after at least weeks of torture and rape when Umikaze is already well on her way off the deep end. She also recovers more quickly than Umikaze does.]] In addition, one of her passive abilities listed in the stat sheet gives her strong combat bonuses if she is fighting while outnumbered or is dueling against another enemy that is a stronger ship type than herself.
