* HeartbrokenBadass: Even a shrewd and charismatic politician like Viserys suffers from this, having never recovered from his wife leaving him.

* BetterAsFriends: Her relationship with Daeron turned out to be this. While the two of them were close, their love for each other was only familial and Daeron didn't want them to marry out of fear that the burdens of marriage may destroy their friendship. Daena ended up marrying Baelor than some high lord so she could stay in King's Landing by Daeron's side.

* BigSisterInstinct: When she learns she has a very good chance to escape Baelor's clutches, she promises Elaena she's not leaving without her.

* AdaptationalNiceGuy: While we don't have an in-depth perspective of Viserys's adulthood, the books show that he was a neglectful parent due to his duties as Hand of the King. Here, Viserys is shown to care for his children and his brother's children as well (except Baelor), and makes a genuine effort to raise his son Aegon to be a better man and ruler despite the latter's vices. This more hands-on upbringing as the added benefit of making Aegon a much nicer person compared to his book counterpart.

* {{Foil}}: To Tyrion Lannister, in that they both possess a surprising degree of charisma and political savvy despite their penchant for wine and women. The difference is that Aegon has benefits that Tyrion doesn't, such as being a martial and handsome man, as well as a father who genuinely cares for him despite his flaws. And unlike Tyrion who gets along well with his brother Jaime, Aegon has a tumultuous relationship with Aemon [[spoiler:until Naerys dies.]]

* FreudianExcuse: His hedonistic behaviour can be attributed to his mother abandoning him and his siblings while he was still young, leaving them without a proper maternal figure. There's also the implication that he was sexually assaulted by Falena Stokeworth, with his penchant for sex being a coping mechanism for the trauma that resulted from said incident.

* BuxomBeautyStandard: Daena often talks about her breasts being larger than hers.

* NotSoAboveItAll: As disdainful as he is towards the pampered Southern lords, he still offers his input to Aegon's scathing letter to Dorne.

Added DiffLines:

* DidYouThinkICantFeel: At one point, Daena lashes out at Aemon for failing to protect Daeron, to which Aemon furiously retorts that he was the one who had to watch his cousin and king die, and didn't even have the chance to mourn as the Dornish proceeded to toss him into a cell while Daeron's body wasn't even cold. Daena realises that Daeron's death weighed heavily on her cousin, even more than it did on her.

Added DiffLines:

* TechnicianVersusPerformer: The Performer to Cregan Stark's Technician. Despite being reputed to be the best swordsman in Westeros, his duel with Cregan Stark showed that he had received his training in the courtyard and never from books. In contrast, Cregan learned how to fight using both theory and practice and the Lord of Winterfell's grasp of the fundamentals allowed him to effortlessly disarm Aemon by applying physics and leveraging.

Added DiffLines:

* BrilliantButLazy: Despite his penchant for wine and women, Aegon is far from stupid and in his first POV chapter, he showcases a surprising amount of political savvy. While discussing with his father and brother matters of succession, he quickly [[CrypticConversation conceals the nature of their conversation by talking about different types of wine]] as soon as they entered the throne room to prevent anyone from eavesdropping on them. In that same chapter, it was he who suggested hiring sellswords to fight against Dorne on the Crown's behalf, a move that would be subtle enough to bypass Baelon's peace treaty with Dorne but obvious enough to showcase the Iron Throne's might to its enemies.
