* Tommy and Uriah get individual moments during the trials in the second chapter, in which they establish their ImprobableAimingSkills:
** In the first test, which examines the boys' skill with the bow and arrow, Tommy shoots arrows through all four target holes without a hitch. To put it in perspective, the hole sizes get smaller and smaller with each successive target, the last hole is perceived as a small black dot on the board it's painted on, and the other boys had varying degrees of success getting their arrows through the targets; Charlie, who also gets his arrow through the last target hole before Tommy takes his turn, has the feathers on the end of his arrow torn off when the arrow goes through the hole.
** Uriah proves his skill with knife-throwing by being the only one to send his knife through the thrown naseberry fruit, bearing the weapon to earth on its point.
* Much later in the novel, David uses his storytelling skills to distract the Redcoats [[spoiler:while Tommy tries to free a captive Charlie. That venture fails, but]] David takes the opportunity to [[IShallTauntYou mock the Redcoats]] in the midst of his storytelling--then pulls a StealthHiBye by jumping into some nearby bushes ''and not being there'' when the Redcoats, on realizing they've been outwitted, converge on the bush in anger.
--> '''David:''' And Brer Anancy threw back his head, just as I do now, and said, "[[StealthInsult Oh, you idle, stupid, red-faced Redcoats, leaving your duties to hear a Maroon boy tell a foolish story that has no end--ha, ha, ha! Ho, ho, ho!]]"
