Being the film that became the inspiration for various other films such as ''Film/TaxiDriver'' and ''Film/ANewHope'', it's naturally full of great moments.

* [[NestedStory The "letter scene"]], where Laurie reads off a letter that Martin had sent to her to recap him progress so far. Not only do we get to see Ethan and Marty's continuing journey, there's also Laurie and her parents' nearby reactions to said events. This technique was used surprised fluently and gave the viewers two separate scenes. There's a reason that technique was used in various future films.

Still adding pointers.

* The sole fact the Ethan Edwards and Martin had kept their hopes up and survived the long painful after five years of searching for Debbie after nearly everyone else had either given up or died.
* The scene where Clayton's alone in the main room of the cabin is a brilliant piece of visual storytelling. Various characters within the scene were telling their own story, and they were all completely silent for that moment.
* As cold and twisted as it was, Chief Scar's plan for revenge on Ethan's people, it was also pretty smart at the same time. The had stolen a bunch of cattle from Lars' ranch nearly and led them 40 miles away from their homestead, allowing the main troop to attack Ethan's family unprotected and kidnap Debbie and Lucy (before she died).

* Ethan's WhatYouAreInTheDark moment where instead of killing Debbie from spending too much time with the Comanches, he shows that he does in fact care for her, and brings her back.
