Not only do we get to see Ethan and Marty's continuing journey, there's also Laurie and her parents' nearby reactions to said events. This technique was used surprised fluently and gave the viewers two separate scenes. There's a reason that technique was used in various future films.
13	* Mose Harper of all people gets one when he gives Ethan important information about Chief Scar's location during a certain point in the story
14	* Martin defending Debbie from Ethan when he tries to shoot her.
