*The remakes add some additional upgrades and content, such as the Sevii Islands as post-game content.
**Seeing the updated sprites, art style, and amazing GBA color brings a whole new way to see the world of Kanto.
**The use of held items and abilities, introduced in gen III, allow you to be much more creative with your team, and brings some more competitive aspects to the game
**The Sevii Islands are great additional and post-game content
***You're first introduced right after you beat the [[spoiler: Cinnibar gym.]] There, [[spoiler: Bill take s you to the Islands and gives you a Tri-Pass to travel between them.]] There, you can see Pokemon from other regions, as well as many other great areas to explore and discover.
***There, if you have [[ThePowerOfFriendship max happiness with your starter Pokemon]] you can teach them [[SecretArt the ultimate move of their type which can only be learned by starter Pokemon:]] Blast Burn, Hydro Cannon, and Frenzy Plant, insanely powerful elemental variations of the move [[FrickinLaserBeams Hyper Beam]], a powerful 150-base power Normal-type attack that requires a turn to recharge afterwards. Due to being the same type as your starter, as well as going off their naturally higher Special Attack stats (No physical/Special split meant Hyper Beam was physical), the power difference ends up being astonishing.
****To make it even better, you can get this move right before [[spoiler: confronting a gang of bikers on another island.]] You can then proceed to wipe the floor with them using your insanely overpowered starter and kick them off the island.
***After you beat the [[spoiler: Elite Four a second time]], you can come back and find that Celio needs your help to build a machine that allows him to establish a connection with the Hoenn region (The game's way of letting you trade with the Hoenn games). You solve a series of ridiculous maze puzzles to find the [[spoiler: ruby]] and [[spoiler sapphire]] to power Celio's machine

*****To make things better, [[spoiler: getting the codes not only allows you to find him by entering the base, where [[EpicFail he is hiding]], [[NiceJobFixingItVillain but it allows you to bust the Archer and the Team Rocket remnants' entire operation to bring back Team Rocket]], and spectacularly foil their plans to wait for Giovanni (who's already said that he would disband Team Rocket)]]
******Although this is kind of a [[ForegoneConclusion foregone conclusion]], as [[spoiler: if you've played the gen II games, you'll know that Giovanni reforms Team Rocket with Archer as his admin.]]
*****You then proceed to kick his ass in sweet revenge after you've beaten up all of his mooks and [[spoiler: Admin Archer]]. It is quite [[CatharsisFactor satisfying]] to pummel the man that cheated you out of the [[FetchQuest fetch quest]] you spent a lengthy amount of time doing.

*** Nintendo's use of [[SilentProtagonist Silent Protagonist]] fits this description as well. In any Pokemon game, aside for some selective dialogue options here and there, the protagonist doesn't speak. That's because you're supposed to fill the dialogue yourself. With Red, it gets even more meta, as when you see him in later games, he doesn't say a word. He represents an older version of YOU. The Player. His ellipses and dialogue are meant to be filled with what you would say to your past self! That's one interpretation anyways

*** On another meta level, Red truly embodies the player character and any longtime fans of the franchise. You start out as young trainer like he did, and you gradually grow stronger and stronger throughout the game. By GS, he's quite possibly the most powerful Pokemon Trainer in the world, being extremely experienced and seasoned. His team are all Pokemon you can get in Pokemon Yellow, a great testament to his roots. As you gets older he ages with you, and by the time gen 7 rolled around, he's in his twenties, about the age of anyone who started with the originals would be. He is always there as a representation of the player themselves, paying homage to the series's roots and many people's first games as the original protagonist. And despite all the changes the franchise has undergone, deep down it's still a fun game where your goal is to get stronger and catch 'em all. His presence can be seen a grand tribute to long time fans of the franchise, thanking them for sticking with the game for over 20 years, and showing how far the franchise, and the player has come. Red was the first connection between the player and the Pokemon world. You aren't just playing as Red. You ARE Red.

* You know that episode of [[Anime/{{Pokemon}} the anime]] where Ash's Pikachu beat Lt. Surge's Raichu by simply using speed and evasion over power? It's possible to do that in ''Yellow''; just have your Pikachu start with Thunder Wave and make it spam Double Team until it's near-impossible for Raichu to attack. Then just keep whaling on it with Quick Attack. It may be a cheap tactic, but name one other time where you can follow the anime like this (except for the whole "using its tail to dodge Thunderbolt" thing, of course; ''that's'' something that's only possible in the anime).
