He had originally recorded the episode (part of the Spirit Temple), but his recording stopped early on. Instead of just re-recording the episode with new commentary, he kept the original commentary for the episode and re-enacts what he did in the failed recording because he wanted to preserve his original commentary (in which he talked about his struggles at the time). The fact that he was able to re-enact his original gameplay is pretty awesome.

However, he eventually won after being taken down to 2 bits of health and said that giving up wasn't an option because he couldn't let his fans down.

* LetsPlay/NintendoCapriSun has not played Battletoads before the 4-player race with ProtonJon, SuperJeenius, and Pcull. And yet he is actually placing third and doing respectably well, even having FUN in Rat Race.
