* Awesome/ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehog

[[AC:SonicTheHedgehog (Archie Comics)]]
* The ArchieComics ''SonicTheHedgehog'' series has a few of these -
** During the ''Endgame'' arc, a [[FaceHeelTurn Knothole traitor]] shows just how cruel a double-agent to Robotnik can be by arranging a vicious assassination of Princess Sally Acorn, which also frames Sonic for the deed.
** Also during that arc, Snivley showing his true colors by reprogramming his uncle's ultimate weapon to backfire on him...and ''only'' him, leaving everyone else unharmed for him to torture.
** That's to say nothing of Sonic and Robotnik's final battle before all is said and done, with both of them discarding any words or taunts, and just focusing on beating the crap out of one another. What follows is one of the series' most brutal battles, rendered by one of the series' most popular artists, Patrick Spaziante.
** Coinciding with a CrowningMomentofHeartwarming, Sonic and Sally's reunion in issue #130. [[http://prettysideofpain.ketnar.org/130W00T.jpg !!]] helped win this comic an award of recognition.
** Fiona Fox revealing just how much she manipulated Sonic's and Tails' LoveDodecahedron before performing a FaceHeelTurn to join with Sonic's EvilCounterpart.
** Dr Eggman gets a true [=CmoA=] in #175 by facing Sonic single-handedly in his new Battle Armor, which was powerful enough to resist a full-speed charge from Sonic (which didn't do more then dent his shield). Dr Eggman didn't just beat Sonic, he also deals out a massive HannibalLecture as he does, before finally leaving him to wallow in his defeat. This, of course, proves to be a big mistake later.
*** Of course, the events of #175 just make the Sonic and Eggman rematch confrontation in #200 even better.
*** A rather understated one follows in subsequent issues, when Sonic and team manage to regroup in a new city, and subsequently work together to dismantle the very armor Eggman beat Sonic in, with Sally then telling him that they can take him on at any time or any place once he's fallen at their feet.
** Mad Scientist (In every sense of the word) echidna Dr Finitevus effortlessly manipulating damn near everyone, turning Knuckles into a super weapon and then calmly letting himself plummet off the island into a warp ring with a smile and a wave.
** Enerjak facing off against Eggman's entire fleet. Hundreds of ships, a city full of killer robots, missiles, death rays the whole thing. Enerjak proceeds to destroy EVERY SINGLE ONE. And for good measure he turns Eggman's city into a wasteland, with only one small part of it even being halfway habitable now. All Eggman can do is stammer in agreement to Dimitri's suggestion that it's time to get to his fall out bunker.
** The entirety of Issue 200 counts as this, from Sonic giving Eggman TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to [[spoiler: Eggman's VillanousBSOD, to Snively's ascension from TheDragon to [[TheManBehindTheMan the man behind the woman]] - a woman who was, before said issue, a one-shot villain in a rarely remembered sidestory in the comic's DorkAge]].
*** Even more amazing is that after Sonic [[spoiler: defeats Robotnik and drives him into his VillanousBSOD, Snivley comes along and explains Robotnik's deteriorating mental health. He subtley calls Sonic out for constantly winning over the years despite Robotnik's intellect and resources, the main reason Robotnik snapped. When he asks Sonic to just leave him alone so he can take care of his uncle, Sonic is left in a funk as he [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone realizes what he had done in order to win,]] his joy turned into emptiness all because on Snivley's speech.]]
** E-102 gets some in Sonic Universe #3, overall surviving as long as he did counting as one.[[spoiler: Later, Gamma manages to knock Omega on his ass with afew well placed shots, while delivering a speech in his cold monotone. He then lets Omega blow him up after copying his own data into the walking arsenal's mind and fusing with him, effectively giving Omega a true soul.]]
*** In the next issue, Omega gets one that is best illustrated [[http://i313.photobucket.com/albums/ll379/GigaSpine7/PLANB.png with this image.]]
** Silver manages to pull one off when he paralyzes a room full of combatants, including Sonic, Scourge, and Metal Sonic, with his telekinetic powers.
* Issue #210. [[spoiler: Robotnik managed to ''reason himself out of insanity''.]]

Superman's beat down of Superboy Prime near the end Of Infinite crisis. Superboy had even smashed a chunk of Kryptonite into his face before hand. Superman proceeds to give a him a [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech why you suck speech]], declaring he doesn't know what it means to be super, then beats him to the ground in four or five punches.

* What, no mention of his cameo in SkrullKillKrew? Where he's introduced quietly eating a big dish of home-made apple pie at an airport diner? Cue mocking cynic's appearance - "how DARE you wear the flag of such an evil, fascist nation", yadda yadda yadda. Cap, quietly: "I don't stand for the flag. I stand for the DREAM." Cue massed attack of HYDRA minions on airport. Cue Cap wiping the floor with those minions in the diner before finishing his pie, paying, politely saying goodbye and charging out to deal with the rest of them. Cut to previously mocking young waitress, eyes wide: "...I want to have his children." Just brilliant.

* There's also something from the [[TheMightyThor Thor]] Mini-series: A Skrull with the powers of all of the strongest female gods of earth (in a mocking of Asgard's patriarchal society) and Beta-Ray Bill's hammer Stormbreaker, is held off for a time by Beta-Ray Bill (borrowing Thor's Mjolnir) and the Warriors Three. On Thor's return, to a bloodied and crippled Bill, Donald Blake announces with Mjolnir at his feet that the beast shall not pass. What follows is a drag-out brawl throughout Asgard, only ending when Thor holds a sword at the beasts heart and hammers it in with Mjolnir. In its duing screams it powers up and throws stormbreaker at the local town, which Thor rises to meet, and takes to his chest, praying for strength before he ends up a flaming ball crashing into the ground.
As the beast flails in its death throes, Thor appears in tattered armor holding both hammers and exclaims "Villian. Yield. I shall not ask you again".
Eventually [[Asgard is dropped on the Skrull to kill it, but Asgard and Beta-Ray Bill catch it on their backs, and slowly stand back up. When Thor uses Mjolnir to restore its place in the heavens,]] a tear eyed Volstagg finishes the series with "and that, fellow warriors, is why Thor is the son of Odin."

Clarity and perspective, considering the context.

* There's also something from the [[TheMightyThor Thor]] Mini-series: after fighting a Skrull that was made to fight the Asgardians who beat Beta-Ray-Bill and the Warriors Three alone Thor comes in and beats the crap out of her taking back Stormbreaker and giving it back to Beta-Ray-Bill. When the Skrull still wants to fight how do the heroes kill her? By dropping Asgard on her. Oh and to make sure it doesn't ruin Asgard or the town next to it; Thor and Bill catch it on their backs and lift it back up.

An example I thought of

to:

* I felt compelled to mention that Tulip gets a few in here as well. Seriously, this woman is as proficient with guns as Jesse is with his fists and ''far deadlier''.:
** One is when she rescues her friend Amy a drunken frat party rape by ''driving a pickup truck through the fucking WALL of the frat house'' and then holding the would-be rapists at gunnpoint(The fact that the gun runs out of bullets is the ''only'' thing that saves her from a murder charge). It's even sweeter when the lead rapist pisses on the floor in terror and curls up in a fetal position on the floor. The fact that this takes place during a time when she ''hates'' guns makes it doubly awesome.
** She also kills a bunch of Grail soldiers during their siege on Jesus DeSade's party.
*** She kills a bunch of Grail soldiers during the fight in the desert using the machine gun attached to a jeep.
*** Hell, she takes even more out during Jesse's fistfight with Cassidy. Shit, these guys are ''highly trained soldiers who are considered the best in the world'' and she probably kills as many of them as the Saint does, and ''he'' has frickin' supernatural powers.
** When she kills the intruders from "Le Enfants du Sang" in her apartment, gets biblical on them in their hideout later (Hint: ''Never'' ask "Are you Cassidy's sow?" to this woman. Just don't), and then during the final battle in the graveyard.
** When she shoots Cassidy through a window after he's kept her hooked on drugs.

Moving to Punisher page

[[AC:ThePunisher]]
* Though ThePunisher is essentially one big, angry, walking CMOA, the Punisher MAX comics show Frank Castle at his single most awesome.
** The opening scene of "In the Beginning", where Frank cripples the New York Mob, in one night.
** "Mother Russia," where Frank fights off ''the Russian army'', then proceeds to ''launch a nuclear missile'' into the middle of Russia itself. The kicker? [[spoiler:the missile is a dud; its actual payload was Frank Castle himself, who proceeded to HALO jump from the missile, hit the ground, and walk to the extraction point.]]
*** Also, in "Mother Russia," Nick Fury gets one when he finds out [[spoiler: the generals in charge of the operation arranged for a duped terrorist cell to try and crash a jet liner into Moscow to trick the Russians into thinking the raid on the nuclear missile base was a terrorist attack.]] His response is to walk into the room, single out the general who masterminded the whole thing, and ''beat him unconscious with his belt.''
** "Up Is Down, and Black Is White", Frank's final words to [[AxCrazy Nicky Cavella]].
---> '''The Punisher''': You made is personal, Cavella. But all that buys you is a little more pain than most.
** "The Slavers," best summed up by this monologue from Frank:
---> '''The Punisher''': It was in that moment that I realized something. A dull, blurred feeling that I'd had since this whole mess began, all of a sudden crystal clear. It had been a long, long time since I hated anyone the way I hated them.
*** This quote was said soon after he'd [[spoiler: disemboweled a man and wrapped his intestines around a tree, then threw another woman out a building]] and was followed by Frank [[spoiler: capturing & binding the leader to a chair and setting him on fire]]. They're all [[AcceptableLifestyleTargets Slavers]] though, so it's ''really'' hard to muster any pity for them.
*** What makes the part where Frank [[spoiler: sets the old man on fire]] all the more awesome is that he ''videotapes'' it for the man's "associates" in Europe, and right before flicking the lighter, he leans down in front of the camera and snarls "Don't come back here."
*** Also, earlier in The Slavers arc, Frank puts and end to [[AttemptedRape a rape attempt]], but one of the guys is still alive.
--->'''Frank''': "Whatever he was jabbering, it wasn't English. Pavla was Albanian, maybe he was too. But I'd know the Lord's Prayer in any language. Gave him a moment. Just before the line about forgiveness." ''* BLAM* ''
** In "Man of Stone", Frank takes on the psychotic Russian general who he fought in "Mother Russia," who brings [[spoiler: a Hind gunship, two squads of Russian Black Sea Marines, and a fuel-air bomb]] in an attempt to take the Punisher down. [[spoiler: Frank not only kills the Hind and the Marines, but brings down the Russian general's helicopter by faking a claymore mine injury and concealing ''a razor shiv'' inside of it, letting himself be captured, and working the razor blade out of his wound without even flinching]].
*** And of course there's Frank's simple statement to SmugSnake Rawlins at the very end...
----> '''The Punisher''': She's dead Rawlins...''right when I was starting to like her...''
** "The Long, Cold Dark", after 5 issues of Frank and [[WorthyOpponent Barracuda]] beating the ''snot'' out of each other, ends with Frank finally giving a suitable reply to [[ScaryBlackMan 'Cudas]] [[EnemyChatter endless natter]]:
---> '''The Punisher:''' ''Shut the '''FUCK UP!!''' ''(''[[spoiler:empties an AK-47 into him]]'')
*** Prior to that, Castle manages to briefly defeat Barracuda. He needs to find out [[spoiler: where Barracuda his his daughter]], so Castle proceeds to whip out the JackBauerInterrogationTechnique on him by ''connecting his gentials to a car battery'' and then ''blasting him with it for an hour straight.''
--->''A half hour's drive later I had the jump leads clamped to the skin of his balls and I'd been turning the key in the ignition for fifteen minutes and he'd shit all over himself and the world was a beautiful place.''
** Frank wants to kill a meeting of mob bosses. He gets them all, except one punk, thanks to the threat of a dead man's switch. The punk proposes they both just walk away. Frank says no way and lets fly with the boom (he survives, the punk dies).
** [[GangstaStyle "They put the sights on top for a reason."]]
** This Trooper feels that Frank's on again off again sidekick Micro gets one in the the Max storyline "In the Beginning" where he tells a CIA agent that he is directly responsible for a great deal of Frank's death count by saying "I worked with Frank Castle for over ten years. I helped him kill over eight hundred people. I hacked computers to find him targets. I customized guns and ammunition. I put in the right place at the right time to kill the maximum number of people. Without me the body for those ten years would be a third of what it is. I turned a lone gunman into a machine that runs at optimum efficency. Because of me, what he does can truly be defined as war."
*** It's a gun, Frank. A gun that shoots swords.
* While the MAX series is definitely praiseworthy, he's done plenty of awesome things outside of that. For instance, in ''Circle of Blood'', a [[KnightTemplar cabal of extremists]] who kill off criminals but have no regard for the civilians caught in the crossfire organized the "Punishment Squad", a army of gangsters brainwashed into being loyal executioners. One of said gangsters is Jigsaw. At the end, the Punisher is battered and bruised after fighting through a large number of mooks, but still beats the tar out of Jigsaw, and the rest of the Squad is so terrified of them the brainwashing fails and they run away in terror.
* The following exchange from CivilWar:
--->'''CaptainAmerica:''' "My ways [[AmericaWinsTheWar stopped Hitler]], boy."
--->'''The Punisher:''' "No sir, the Russians stopped Hitler."
* "Cuddly. Loveable. Docile. That won't do at all." Every Punisher fan knows this one, but in case you don't he punches out a polar bear to get it angry enough to slaughter a mob boss.

Mongul. Mongul is beating the crap out of him, the others try to help, but Sinestro shoves them off saying "This is my responsibility!" Mongul:"What?"
Mongul:"Do you truly believe you can pry my fingers apart?"

** Dr Eggman gets a true [=CmoA=] in #175 by facing Sonic single-handedly in his new Battle Armor, which was powerful enough to resist a full-speed charge from Sonic (which didn't do more then dent his shield). Dr Eggman didn't just beat Sonic, he also deals out a massive HannibalSpeech as he does, before finally leaving him to wallow in his defeat. This, of course, proves to be a big mistake later.

* Awesome/{{Hellblazer}}

[[AC:{{Hellblazer}}]]
* From ''{{Hellblazer}}'', we really have a number of examples, but one that sticks out in [[{{Argetlahm}} my]] head is during the arc "Dangerous Habits," John Constantine convinces the [[TheDevil First of the Fallen]], who has come for the soul of one of his friends, to drink a beer from a pool under the friend's house. The First finds it to be perfectly good, in fact the perfect brew, until Constantine points out what it's made of - holy water. Set to revert to holy water should the candles near it be disturbed. John proceeds to kick the table with said candles over, burning the First from the inside, then shoves him into the pool, disrupting his physical body long enough for the deal his friend had made to expire.
* Two from Dangerous Habits, actually. The aforementioned one, then much later, after tricking the Second and Third of the Fallen into both buying his soul, forcing all three to cure his terminal lung cancer, as his soul going to hell would force all three into a war that none of them could win, and at the very least would leave them open to decimation from heaven. Needless to say, all three are understandably upset. This is compounded when, after having his entire body rebuilt from scratch, John turns around and gives his famous [[http://www.whiterose.org/pete/blog/images/upyours.gif "Up yours"]].
** Mitigated slightly by all three [[PlotInducedStupidity forgetting]] that "alive" does not equal "healthy" or even "having all limbs and various manly parts". Just chalk it up to the [[RuleOfCool Rule Of Cool]].
*** Ah, but here be the rub: he forces the demons' hands by ''slashing his wrists''... and he makes it ''quite'' clear that he will kill himself ''repeatedly'' until he gets what he wants. It CrossesTheLineTwice, but still quite awesome.
* This troper's personal favourite is from an early Jamie Delano issue, in which Constantine saves his girlfriend from a four-headed, eight-armed monster which a demon created by fusing four football (=soccer) hooligans together. How does John do it? Seven words: "What do you do on Saturdays, lads?" Whereupon both pairs of heads shout their team's respective names and pummel each other to death.
* Also, peeing on the king of the vampires.
* Are we forgetting the entire economy that John singlehandedly destroyed in the first few issues? The entire economy of hell?

Giving Fantastic Four it's own page

* Awesome/FantasticFour

[[AC:{{Fantastic Four}}]]
* [[ReedRichardsIsUseless Despite his general uselessness]], Reed Richards has his moments of awesome all the same.
** He has another when he manages to defeat Diablo, an immortal alchemist capable of summoning the four elements who had just beaten the entire team single-handedly, by [[spoiler:calmly stating the equation for calculating gravitational force. Diablo, who had been levitating for the past few issues as a demonstration of his increased power, crashes to the floor in horror, his powers completely gone.]]
** A slightly more unbelievable instance occurred during Chris Claremont's run on the series, where Reed managed to beat Annihilus, Terrax, and Blaastar with his bare hands.
** In the Marvel Adventures universe, Reed Richards once defeated a giant robot that had just administered a smack-down to the rest of his family. With a pair of toasters.
** Walt Simonson's "Into the Time Stream" arc featured Reed shouting angrily at the [[CosmicHorror Black Celestial]], goading it to follow his team(including Iron Man and Thor) through time and space, finally tricking the Celestial into diving into a black hole created by Galactus. All this while he believed that his wife had just died. [[IGotBetter She got better]]..
* Of course, other people sometimes get one when opposing Reed, especially if they use magic, which Reed's incredible mind just can't comprehend. When confronted with Mephisto, Marvel's answer to the Devil, Reed's mind seizes up. He assumes that the Devil is little more than another supervillain to be defeated by the FF, explaining away the demon's demonstrations of power as 'tricks'. Mephisto responds with hysterical laughter and further demonstrations of how magically powerful he is.
* Ben Grimm is notorious for these, mainly because, in his own words, he's just too dumb to know when to quit. Notable examples include:
** Crushing Dr. Doom's hands in battle, dealing the megalomaniac a defeat he would obsess over for years.
** Refusing to yield in battle against the Champion, a superhuman alien with nigh-unlimited strength. The Champion was so moved by Ben's spirit that he declared him the victor, despite the fact that even Ben's strongest punches barely fazed him.
** Speaking of the Hulk, Ben has stood up to him on numerous occasions, despite the fact that he's never won a single fight against him. During World War Hulk, when Hulk was more angry and powerful than he'd ever been, Ben still went toe-to-toe with him. Informed that he couldn't possibly win, Ben responded "People been tellin' me that all my life, fella. But Mama Grimm's blue-eyed boy never walks away when it's ''clobberin' time.''"
** Claremont's run included a skirmish between Ben and the then current team of Avengers. Ben managed to disable the entire team, including Thor, within minutes, though he later admitted that both sides were holding back considerably.
* Let us not forget DoctorDoom. Special mention goes to ''Triumph and Torment'', where he managed to save his mother's soul by manipulating both Mephisto and Doctor Strange. Simultaneously. Or the time he got one over Reed Richards — by saving his wife, his daughter and his teammate when Richards couldn't do anything. And then rubbed it in his face by ''naming the newborn child.''
* Sue Richards has her big moments too. Like taking out the most recent incarnation of the Frightful Four by herself. If there was any doubt about her being the strong member of the team then it has vanished after that.
** In an issue of the ''Marvel Knights'' FF run, after the Four have seen their assets wiped out and are forced to move into a hotel and find jobs, Sue gets a job teaching an unruly, supposedly uncontrollable class of teenage students English. After a couple of them try their luck, Sue gently reminds them that she has the power of forcefields - by lifting the entire class by their chairs and into the air. She also gently reminds them that she has the power to turn objects invisible - such as clothing. ''Their'' clothing, to be precise. They get the message.
** Toward the end of GrantMorrison's "1234" FF mini-series, as Doctor Doom attempted to "regain control of the board" after his [[TheChessmaster attempts at manipulating the FF failed]], Sue conked him on the head with a candlestick, shouting, "Shut up!" She then [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech berated him for wasting his intellect on revenge schemes]], "when you should be curing cancer or taking your people to the stars," and then warning him that if he tried anything like that again, she would use her force fields to give him an aneurism. Not many people can force Doom to live through a HumiliationConga, but Sue pulled it off.
*** Around the same time, in around the same title - while the Fantastic Four lose their money, the narration shows everyone trying to adapt: Mister Fantastic becomes "stay-at-home father", Invisible Woman becomes "substitute teacher", Human Torch becomes "struggling actor". The Thing applies for a job in construction, and is about to be turned down... when there's an accident, and he rushes to help the workers. ''He'' gets referred to as follows:
---->Benjamin J Grimm. Test pilot. Godfather. [[VerbalTic "Idol o' millions"]]. 100% hero.
** Another, and one that is surprisingly early, takes place during the storyline in which Dr. Doom gains the power of the Silver Surfer. One point near the end of the climactic battle Sue rushes out to meet the dive bombing Dr. Doom in the middle of an opening. She then ducks and Dr. Doom smashes into something. It's not one of her walls but a friggin' mountain she had been keeping invisible. She even goated Doom into anger so he would forget about it. It's one thing to have him crash into one of her fields, it's another to flat out trick Dr. Von Doom into hitting a mountain. It almost makes up for all of Sue's fake action girl routine from previous issues. Almost. That shows how bad ass it is.
** There's also a brilliant moment for Sue in one of the issues of ''FF'' set right after the Civil War, in which she confronts Reed about his reasons for taking the pro-registration side in the war and why he didn't tell her the ''real'' reasons behind it. When he says, as Reed always ''used'' to do, that he did it in order to protect Sue, she proceeds to extrude an invisible force column all the way ''through'' the Baxter Building, both above and below her, and says something along the lines of "Do I ''look'' like I need 'protecting'?" Two things go through Reed's mind after she leaves: 1) how much money it's going to cost to repair the damage (we get to see him calculating that), and 2) how he will ''never'', ''ever'' say those words to Sue again (we don't get to see that, but honestly...would ''you'' ever say it again?).
* The iconic Silver Surfer gets one during John Byrne's legendary run. Tyros, a former herald of Galactus and wielder of the 'Power Cosmic', launches an attack on the Fantastic Four wrecking much of Queens, New York in the process . The Fantastic Four, minus Reed Richards who is MIA, are on the verge of defeat when the Silver Surfer swoops down from low Earth orbit. Then the Surfer, the first herald of Galactus, grabs Tyros off his feet by the beard:
-->'''Silver Surfer:''' I know you have boasted yourself to be the most powerful herald of our former master, Tyros…let us now put that boast to the test!
** Then the Surfer carries Tyros high into the air on a winding flight and hurls him to the ground:
-->'''Silver Surfer:''' Though I fear for you it will be a test unto destruction!
*** Pompous, melodramtic, and 100% pure awesome.
