*** The fact that Steve is able to put up a fight at all, let alone win (admittedly he couldn't have won himself) is a testament to how much more powerful the movie version of the character is compared to the comics. In the comic Civil War arc in the times the two sides clashed, Steve couldn't even come close to being able to stand against Tony in a fight. His only option was set up a way to disable Tony's suit completely and wail on him while Tony couldn't move, and once that wore off Tony effortlessly beat the tar out of him anyway.

** Right before Cap brings his shield down on the arc reactor we see Tony throw his hands over his face, palms outwards. Tony had a clean shot with both repulsors directly at Steve's head, and could have ended the fight right there and then. ** The mere fact that Tony was able to hold his own is impressive: Steve and Bucky are hand to hand fighters, with their training and powers going in that direction, while Tony's greatest advantages are his mobility and long-range weaponry, and from the previous scene at the Raft, he is also sporting an injured arm. There, fighting in a confined space with no room for maneuvers, he couldn't put his ranged capabilities to good use, and had to fight in melee multiple times with his injured arm, the field his opponents are best in. ''In addition'', they were two against one. Still, Tony came extremely close to winning and lost only because of his refusal to hurt Cap. Had he been in good condition and made full use of the opportunities he got to kill Cap as well instead of focusing solely on Bucky which allowed Cap to protect both Bucky and himself, both soldiers would have almost certainly been dead.

*** The awesome is subverted in the movie when you see that it's Vision's friendly fire that nearly kills Rhodes; he missed his target, which was Falcon's jet pack.

*** Not quite, as Bucky audibly cries out in pain when Tony smacks him over the face. Not even the crotch punch got a similar reaction. Probably why Tony got PunchedAcrossTheRoom unlike others because that pissed off the Winter Soldier more. Even then, that's a CMOA for Tony, showing that he indeed has come a long way from being too dependent on his suit.

** Vision gets himself by quickly realizing Hawkeye's distraction, then shooting out the electrodes in Hawkeye's trap, then proceeding to show Clint just how outmatched he is in several ways.
*** Special mention must go to when Hawkeye's punches have zero effect on him and Clint's baton breaks on him.
*** At the moment Clint's baton breaks, you see Vision slowly increasing his density while making a face of "OK, really?" He may not be JARVIS, but Vision certainly inherited his sass.

*** Made even better by Tony's reaction. When he hears Ant-Man talking to him from inside the armor, he looks pretty damn scared.
*** Scott then learns the hard way messing up Falcon's suit is one thing, doing the same to Iron Man is whole another when he gets unceremoniously ejected by its fire suppression system.

** Its an even more awesome moment for Tony as well, who never raises his voice or insults Clint right back like he normally would, even after the cruel last line, despite how awful he must be feeling then.

** Despite Vision's talk of escalating superpowered threats, in the end all it took was a single man to destroy the Avengers. A man who knew he couldn't kill them face-to-face, but still persevered and succeeded anyway. [[spoiler: It eventually becomes a moment of awesome of the Avengers, who eventually reconcile for good in Film/AvengersEndgame and, in doing so, stick it to Zemo and prove him wrong.]]

Per ATT, no meta moments

[[folder:Meta]]
* The movie getting an overwhelmingly positive reception at Website/RottenTomatoes, with a 91% rating, and making over $1 billion within its ''first few weeks''. It managed to beat the ''entire theatrical gross'' of its major competitor, ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice'', which was no slouch itself, earning $870 million. ''Civil War'' also wound up having much better reception with both critics and audiences, overall.
** What makes this even more impressive is the fact that Captain America and Iron Man weren't as well-known as Batman and Superman before the MCU. It's a testament to the great amount of goodwill that Marvel Studios has built with audiences and critics alike.
** Also, the fact that this film was initially slated to open directly opposite ''Batman v Superman'' before effectively telling that film, "No, ''you'' move." [[{{ComicBook/CivilWar}} Quite appropriate, no?]][[note]]''[=BvS=]'' blinked first and moved to an emptier spot on the release calendar. ''Civil War'' also moved release dates following a reshuffle of Marvel Phase 3.[[/note]]
** This movie is the highest grossing movie of 2016 with a box office total of $1.153 billion. '''WOW'''.
* Spider-Man:
** Having him in the movie ''period''. At first it seemed like Marvel wouldn't have been able to incorporate him into the plot given that the film was quite a good ways into development, but lo and behold, they not only managed to snugly fit him in without much of a hassle, but everybody's favorite web-head is unanimously considered to be one of the highlights of the film alongside fellow newcomer Black Panther with Creator/TomHolland playing both a good Peter Parker ''and'' a good Spider-Man.
*** That last bit needs emphasis and maybe some explaining. Even if you think Creator/TobeyMaguire will always be the definitive cinematic Spider-Man in the same way that Creator/ChristopherReeve will never be unseated as the defining portrayal of Franchise/{{Superman}}, hindsight generally agrees that while he was a perfect Peter, his Spider-Man was just Peter in a suit. And while ''Film/TheAmazingSpiderManSeries'' is very divisive, in no small part because of Creator/AndrewGarfield's portrayal of Peter Parker, most people admit that he at least had Spider-Man's snark and quipping down to a fine art. Holland is widely praised for his ability to accurately portray both awkward teenager Peter Parker ''and'' fast-talking superhero Spider-Man, with some people crediting him as the greatest cinematic incarnation of the character ever.
** And in the tradition of the after credits scenes:
---> ''[[Film/SpiderManHomecoming Spider-Man]] [[AndTheAdventureContinues will return.]]''
** Creator/TomHolland's sheer presence is worth a mention. For a start, a teenager was finally cast as Peter Parker. He looks and sounds like a teenager, and acts like one in the film, adding a sense of realism to it while simultaneously being good casting, because his performance is just so good. Not to mention how much he's really been embracing the role outside the film, with the constant Instagrams and Twitter videos showing him doing flips - if you've seen them, seeing him doing those flips ''in the movie'' makes the whole thing even better.
** Just the fact that nineteen-year-old Tom Holland got in front of a camera with veteran actor Robert Downey, Jr. Robert Downey, Jr.-ing all over the place and didn't disappear into the wallpaper. He holds his own against Tony freakin' Stark for the entire scene. He kept himself alive in the midst of avalanches of snark and charisma and managed to become one of the most memorable parts of the movie.
* And in the same vein, Black Panther. When the character was first announced for ''Civil War,'' some folks dismissed it as an affirmative-action gimmick more than anything else. With the release of the film, however, T'Challa has proven himself to be a worthy addition to the cast, a fully-fleshed-out character capable of standing as an equal to the MCU's flagship heroes -- and this is even ''before'' he has a movie of his own to star in.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPEcyIqTknQ This behind-the-scenes video]].
* The SugarWiki/VisualEffectsOfAwesome used for Tony's first scene in the film -- they are able to show a young Tony Stark by making Robert Downey Junior look twenty five years younger, in the same vein as how ''Film/AntMan'' was able to show a younger Hank Pym, especially impressive after the criticism of the CGI used to age-up Hayley Atwell in ''Winter Soldier''.
* The airport the climactic fight takes place in? ALL CGI. If nobody told you, there's a good chance you'd think they just closed off an actual airport and filmed there.
** Know what else is all CGI? Black Panther's suit. Betcha didn't realize that. In order to give it a consistent, otherworldly look while still maintaining mobility for the actors, the directors decided to digitally recreate every single frame that the Black Panther shows up (including the parts when he's unmasked).
* Just look at the long list of [=CMOAs=] shown in the trailers and preview clips. Then see ''how much more'' there is in the movie. It is one big, long CMOA to the Marvel Studios editing team to pull that off with every movie with better results every time, culminating in this.
* WebVideo/AndreTheBlackNerd pointed this out: the fact that ''Civil War'' has three black main characters (Black Panther, War Machine and Falcon) with three distinct personalities and three distinct ways of being heroes. Rather than any of them being a TokenMinority, they're fleshed out enough to be individuals and still fight for good. See Hollywood? It IS that easy.
