Aerys II "[[TheCaligula The Mad]]" Targaryen had repeatedly abused Jaime's family, forced him to become a Kingsguard purely to spite Tywin, and forced him to stand by as he attempted to surpass Maegor "The Cruel" and Aegon IV "The Unworthy" as the Worst Targaryen Ever. The straw that broke the camel's back was Jaime finding out that Aerys intended to fantasy-nuke King's Landing to spite rebel forces (who were rebelling against him because he was such a gigantic prick).
