* SheathYourSword: [[spoiler: Near the end of the duel between Yuma and Nasch, Nasch activates a card that stops an attack and forces each player to draw a card. The drawn card has to be played or the player loses. Nasch uses his Chaos Draw and Yuma uses his Shining Draw and Yuma's card is revealed to be "Double or Nothing!". Yuma seems poised to win the duel; however, he ends up stopping his attack using Utopia's effect, realizing that if he won this way, then it would be admitting that he's abandoned his ideals by dooming both his friend and the Barian World. However, it turns out to be exactly the move he needed to make to win the duel. It turns out Nasch knew that Yuma would draw Double or Nothing! and drew a card that would have reflected the damage he would have taken back at Yuma, causing him to lose. Since Yuma stopped his attack however, a side effect of the card reduces his life points to zero, and since he had to play the card or lose anyway, Yuma wins.]]

** [[spoiler: You'd expect PlotArmor to protect the protagonists from death, but nope. Astral has technically died twice, and Shark was revealed to have been killed in a past life. And now, as of Episode 135, Kaito bites it after defeating Mizael and unlocking the Numeron code.]]

* ClimacticBattleResurrection: [[spoiler:Every single character killed off during the final arc is brought back to life with the Numeron Code]]

to:

* CliffhangerCopout: A downplayed example. Episode 83 ends with Yuma and Shark dramatically falling into a chasm as a result of the destruction caused by Kaito's duel with Misael. The next episode begins with the two of them already in the hospital, completely skipping over the details of their rescue.

** DealWithTheDevil: To open the Door, Yuma was forced to give up "his most important thing". He speculates what this might be, eventually concluding its the bond he gained with Astral, but later determining its Shark. Finally, he realizes its the loss of who he was as a person. Constant life-or-death dueling has changed him and he doesn't like that.

*** Subsequent openings initially obscure important characters and then reveal their faces once they appear in the show, such as the Tron family or the Barians.

** Flip Turner draws a lot of similarities from Weevil Underwood. They both look similar, they're both viewed as creepy by the female cast and they both have a sneaky nature, such as tricking their opponent's into taking their cards and taking advantage of it during their duels.

* ProxyWar: The Astral and Barian worlds are engaged in this out of necessity; because both worlds are made out of energy, the residents of the two worlds cannot directly fight each other, so they often fight either on Earth or using humans (the Barians used the Tenjo and Arclight families to do their bidding, while Astral used Yuma to fight).

* SaveBothWorlds: In this case, save all three worlds: Earth, Barian World and Astral World. There's a twist in that the Astral and Barian Worlds are trying to destroy each other, with Earth getting caught in the middle. It's later revealed that Earth is crucial to the conflict because [[spoiler: it's the location of the Numeron Code.]]

* GoodVsGood: Surprisingly. True there are some major villains like Don Thousand and Vector, antagonists like Vetrix, Dr. Faker, and most of the Barian's are doing their deeds for understandable reasons.

* RousseauWasRight: Perhaps one of the strongest uses of this trope in a YuGiOh series, considering the villains are either people who have understandable reasons to their motivations and the Barians are actually just people who are doing what Astral World is doing to them.

Added DiffLines:

* SlidingScaleOfIdealsmVsCynicism: Much like the first three series it is relying heavily on the idealistic end of the scale, despite a dark and intense battle between two sides.
