* BaitAndSwitchCredits: The first opening has Iowa acting friendly and being cheered up by Megumi, Yuko and Hime. What the opening doesn't tell you is that Iowa is a Jerkass on the similar vein to Namek Saga Vegeta, treating the former two as tools to help her become stronger while completely antagonizing the latter. Doesn't help that she would actively bail on Cure Lovely and Cure Honey if she even so much as sees Cure Princess's shadow while refusing to listen to anything she has to say, regardless of how relevant to the current situation it is.

* CouldHaveAvoidedThisPlot: Discussed in episode 23 as Iona and Hime finally talk about how the Phantom Empire got free. When Hime explains and Iona asks why she didn't say so in the first place, she's shocked that she tried to, but Iona spent so much time demonizing her she couldn't get anything in edgewise. Iona's heartbroken by this revelation.

* CannotSpitItOut: A massive problem with the first half of the series: Hime and Ribbon are more than happy to hide the truth of the Phantom Empire's appearance from Megumi, leaving the girl in the dark whenever Iona antagonizes Hime. By the time Iona actually spells it out for Megumi, Megumi had long made up her mind about Hime.

* UnexpectedCharacter:
** Most fans assumed the Pretty Cure cameos would be in order. Boy, weren't they surprised when Cure Dream showed up instead of Cure White! (Or Cure Bloom, if they had introduce all leaders first.) And then they threw everyone under the bus when the next one was Cure Passion instead of Cure Peach.
*** Some other fans have assumed there was an actual system of the cameos. It looked right when Cure Moonlight appeared, but then came Cure Happy and the theory was thrown away.
** Episode 8 begins with introducing six foreign Pretty Cures; three in America, one in France and two in India.
** The cameo for episode 14 is
** Cure Flora makes appearance at the end of the final episode.

*** Shining Make Dresser is definitely one to the Heartcatch Mirage, which leads to...
*** Innocent Form is one to the Super Silhouette, with their Cure uniforms turning white and so on.
*** The Pre Cards are to the Heart Seeds, though the Heart Seeds has more plot importance. And the fact that if you collect a lot, you can have a wish granted is discussed as well.
*** Even the Phantom Empire is one to the Desert Apostles. At the lowest, you have mooks, then you have powered mooks that serves as MonsterOfTheWeek, then you have the TerribleTrio, the BigBad (Or so we thought) is BrainwashedAndCrazy and has a dragon of their own, and there's the BiggerBad.
