After the success of ''Film/ShinGodzilla'', Toho on their Twitter announced an anime film was in the works; it was released in Japan on November 17, 2017. To avert a NoExportForYou, Toho released the movie on Creator/{{Netflix}} on January 17th 2018, two months after the film's theatrical debut. When Godzilla and a legion of monsters emerged towards the end of the 20th century and drove humanity off of Earth and conquered the planet after a 50 year war, the new planet that humanity was hoping to settle on turned out to be inhospitable. A faction wanting to return to Earth and take out Godzilla, lead by a young man named Haruo who lost his parents in a Godzilla attack, ends up taking political control and engages on a mission to return to Earth with experimental hyperdrives and finish the job, only to emerge 20,000 years later where Earth is overgrown and Godzilla reigns supreme.

After the success of ''Film/ShinGodzilla'', Toho on their Twitter announced an anime film is in the works, and is scheduled to be released in November 2017. To avert a NoExportForYou, Toho plans to release the movie on Creator/{{Netflix}} internationally after the film's theatrical debut. It has also been announced that the film will be the first in a trilogy.

* VillainWorld: The story is set in a world where the kaiju basically won and humanity had no choice but to flee the planet. Now, 20,000 years later humanity returns to find a world firmly under their control.
* YearInsideHourOutside: The humans that evacuated Earth (and those who returned) use experimental hyperdrives. Relativistic physics made them age a whole lot slower--for Haruo, TheHero, it was approximately a decade... for Earth, it's been so long that Kaiju have evolved into the dominant species.
