* FauxAffablyEvil: [=IceDevimon=] chats enthusiastically with his victims, to the point where you wonder if he is ObliviouslyEvil or ObfuscatingInsanity.
** Mind you, the things he says are pretty psycho. "It would be so ''joyous,'' all the pain and the suffering!" (Quote from dub.)

* GogglesDoNothing: Takuya, this however is averted, as he uses his in a few occasions in the show.
* [[GoneSwimmingClothesStolen Gone Swimming, D-Tectors Stolen]]: This befalls almost everyone in episode 15. Zoe is spared, in no small part because she used a separate dressing room.

* AccidentalPervert: J.P. in "A Molehill Out of a Mountain". Before climbing a rope, he does the "ladies first" bit, forgetting that Zoe is wearing a skirt. Cue ArmorPiercingSlap.

* EverythingsBetterWithSpinning: Vritramon, Shutumon, Bolgmon, Calmaramon, Gigasmon, Arbormon, and Sakkakumon all have attacks with spinning.

* FiveManBand: The spirits of the Legendary Warriors are inherited by five heroic children. The StockShonenHero Takuya, IneffectualLoner and {{Lancer}} Koji that spends the earliest part of the series on his own before becoming an AloofAlly, TokenGirl and [[DudeMagnet everyone's crush]] Zoey, TagAlongKid Tommy that the others look out for until he matures enough to take care of himself, and BigFun J.P who has the physically strongest forms and always has a chocolate bar on him. The show mostly centers around [[RedOniBlueOni Takuya and Koji's rivalry and later partnership]] with the other members either diffusing the tension, or offering [[CantCatchUp support from afar.]] They eventually get a SixthRanger in Koji's [[HeelFaceTurn long lost twin]] Koichi, but he gets DemotedToExtra with the rest of the group in favor of the main duo.
** They have non-warrior supporters in PluckyComicRelief Neemon, and MrExposition Bokomon [[CloudcuckoolandersMinder who minds him.]]

** From the main children, Creator/SteveBlum (Guilmon, Kenta, and Yamaki in ''Anime/DigimonTamers'') is J.P., Creator/SteveStaley (Ryo in ''Tamers'') is Kouji, and Michael Reisz (Matt in ''Anime/DigimonAdventure'') is Takuya (however, he isn't voicing [=EmprerorGreymon=], whose duty was given to Creator/DaveWittenberg, Henry in ''Tamers''[[note]]Wittenberg [[TheOtherDarrin voices Takuya in the movie]], too[[/note]]).

** Izumi/Fairymon shows some pity towards Ranamon before she defeats her because Ranamon was only nasty due to how pained and empty she was inside, so she hopes purification can heal her ("This digivice will purify your broken heart!") [[LostInTranslation The dub unfortunately removes this]], making Zoe/Kazemon [[MoralDissonance just happy to be rid of her]]... which [[BrokenAesop kind of goes against that particular episode's message.]]

* ActionizedSequel: Granted, the Digimon franchise has always had action, but this series is noticeably more action oriented than its immediate predecessor, Tamers, which had significant Slice of Life elements early on. And this time around, the kids themselves do the fighting, rather than having partners who fight for them, and right from the start the action set pieces are noticeably more elaborate and choreographed than many in the previous series, with more instances of Rapid-FireFisticuffs.

* TheTeam: The chosen children solidify as a team over the course of the series. During the Royal Knights arc when only Takuya and Koji are the ones fighting, the others still do their part.
** Appearance-wise they look like a FiveManBand (Takuya - TheLeader, Koji - TheLancer, Zoe - TheChick, JP - TheBigGuy, Tommy - TheSmartGuy), but by role, it's not the case.
** By their actual story roles Takuya and his forms are a {{Red Oni|BlueOni}} [[TheLeader Leader]]. Koji is such a great [[RedOniBlueOni Blue Oni]] AloofAlly [[TheLancer Lancer]] that he spends the earliest part of the series on his own. Zoe and her wind spirits are TheChick, providing. JP and his thunder spirits are TheBigGuy as physically the largest and most powerful fighters. Tommy is the TagalongKid that the others look out for until he matures enough to take care of himself. Kouichi is the SixthRanger after he pulled a HeelFaceTurn. Bokomon is TheSmartGuy who cites the lore of the digital world and directs the adventure. Neemon is a PluckyComicRelief.

* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Izumi is the only girl amongst a squad of guys. Ranamon is her [[ThePsychoRangers Psycho Ranger]] counterpart. The other four kids also have only one girl member.

** Gigasmon is derived from ancient greek giants, Sephorotmon is one huge shout out to the Kabbalah (see Rule of Symbolism below). [[spoiler:Koichi, post-reformation]] adds a lot of Ancient Sphinx derivations, and then there's Susanoomon, named for Susanoo no Mikoto, the ocean god who slew the Orochi. Orochimon doesn't make a significant appearance, however; Susanoomon instead wields a weapon called the "ZERO ARMS: Orochi".

* FauxActionGirl: Downplayed with Zoe. She has some initial success when she first uses both of her spirits, but fails to follow through when the Difficulty Spikes[[note]]When she achieves Kazemon's form she's able to defeat three Mushroomon but loses when they combine into a Woodmon. Unlocking Zephyrmon allows her to deal with Ranamon, but she can't deal with Calmaramon immediately after[[/note]] and usually has to be bailed out by one or more of her teammates. The only enemy she defeats on her own is her ArchEnemy Ranamon in a DesignatedGirlFight. That being said, a positive step in her development is when she acquires her Beast Spirit and gets upgraded to Zephyrmon while not losing control, unlike her teammates, and was the last Legendary Warrior standing against Cherubimon until Ophanimon could retrieve the Spirits he stole from the rest of her teammates.

* FauxActionGirl: Each time Zoe unlocks a new spirit, she has some initial success but fails to follow through when the Difficulty Spikes[[note]]When she achieves Kazemon's form she's able to defeat three Mushroomon but loses when they combine into a Woodmon. Unlocking Zephyrmon allows her to deal with Ranamon, but she can't deal with Calmaramon immediately after[[/note]] and usually has to be bailed out by one or more of the boys. The only enemy she "defeats" on her own is her ArchEnemy Ranamon in a DesignatedGirlFight, and that only happens because Ranamon loses control of her own beast form and spins away. That being said, a positive step in her development is when she acquires her Beast Spirit and gets upgraded to Zephyrmon while not losing control and while she does lose her Human Spirit for a few episodes, it only happens to her once while it’s happened twice to her teammates. She was also the last Legendary Warrior standing against Cherubimon until Ophanimon could retrieve the Spirits he stole from the rest of her teammates.

* HeelFaceTurn: The four Dark Legendary Warriors' spirits after they have been defeated and purified.

** All of the children grab this when they have to figure out a way to make it back to the Digital World after being stuck on the Moon. The entire episode is one stupid plan after the other until they make the obvious decision to convince the local Digimon to help them build a prototype rocket.

** Zoe is the franchise's first female lead created specifically with fanservice in mind. Her clothes are more revealing than her predecessors', her Spirit Forms are clad in what amounts to some rather complex lingerie, her TransformationSequence has a FreezeFrameBonus PantyShot, and the BeachEpisode has a few {{Imagine Spot}}s consisting of her in poses that would be more appropriate to a gravure idol than a prepubescent girl. This trope created a ''really awkward'' combination with TheSmurfettePrinciple and FauxActionGirl.

* NegatedMomentOfAwesome: All ten Legendary Warriors show up to fight the Royal Knights in one episode and fire their attacks simultaneously... It does nothing, and the villains manage to steal the local [=DigiCode=] anyways.

* ThePsychoRangers: The Dark Legendary Warriors, [[spoiler: at least until they're purified and freed of Cherubimon/Lucemon's control, and ultimately end up going on to be instrumental in defeating Lucemon.]] Their overall BigBad is Cherubimon. TheDragon is Duskmon, [[spoiler: a corrupted [[LukeIAmYourFather relative of one of the heroes]]]] and the most powerful and mature member. The EvilGenius is Mercurymon, who talks in PurpleProse as he plots to take over the team himself. {{The Brute}}s are Arbormon and Grumblemon who are both pretty much DumbMuscle. Grumblemon also acted as the WakeUpCallBoss to let you know things are getting serious. The DarkChick is Ranamon who is vain and belittling, and pretty much only around for a DesignatedGirlFight with Zoe.

* RedemptionDemotion: After being freed of Cherubimon's mind control and given a pair of proper spirits, Kouichi routinely gets his ass kicked by enemies. This is justified as his victories took place on the continent of Darkness which gave him a field power bonus and his later fights were in a place of great light. Nevertheless, he is rendered useless in combat by Takuya and Kouji's later evolutions but so are the others.

* StolenGoodReturnedBetter: In episode 15, the Digidestined's D-tectors are stolen by Toucanmon. Two episodes later, they find them in the hands of a Datamon on the Autumn Leaf Fair. Tommy/Tomoki is able to win them back from the Datamon by winning a game for him, and upon doing so learns that Datamon added the Beast Spirit of Ice to his D-Tector.

** By their actual story roles Takuya and his forms are a {{Red Oni|BlueOni}} [[TheLeader Leader]]. Koji is such a great [[RedOniBlueOni Blue Oni]] AloofAlly [[TheLancer Lancer]] that he spends the earliest part of the series on his own. * SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: At the start of the series we saw dozens of kids entering the Digital World, as [[TheChooserOfTheOne Ophanimon]] wasn't able to single out who was best qualified to become the Legendary Warriors and sent TheCall out to dozens of them. After she found the right candidates she sent the other kids a message telling them to go back home. Most of them did, but late in the series we that of course, some didn't. This proved bad for them as right after they appeared, they learn how dangerous staying in the Digital World is when you aren't the main characters.

After she found the right candidates she sent the other kids a message telling them to go back home. Most of them did, but late in the series we that of course, some didn't. This proved bad for them as right after they appeared, they learn how dangerous staying in the Digital World is when you aren't the main characters.

It is followed by ''Anime/DigimonSavers''.

** Creator/MonaMarshall ([[Anime/DigimonAdventure Izzy]]) is the BigBad, and [[Anime/DigimonSavers not for the last time either]]!

* LighterAndSofter: The series certainly wasn't complete sunshine and rainbows and did have very dark and introspective moments (especially around Kouichi), but considering that its immediate predecessor was ''Anime/DigimonTamers'' and its successor was ''Anime/DigimonSavers''... yeah, this was inevitable.

* ProtagonistPowerUpPrivileges: Takuya and Koji are the worst offenders in the franchise until [[Anime/DigimonXrosWars Taiki and Kiriha come along]].

* FauxActionGirl: Zoe really got the short end of the stick in the battling department. Each time she unlocks a new spirit, she has some initial success against her first opponents but fails to follow through when the Difficulty Spikes[[note]]When she achieves Kazemon's form, her ''first fight'', no less, she takes out three Mushroomon handily, but loses when they combine into a Woodmon. Unlocking Zephyrmon allows her to deal with Ranamon, but she can't deal with Calmaramon immediately after[[/note]] and usually has to be bailed out by one or more of the boys. She's even BroughtDownToNormal for several episodes, forced to watch the male characters fight in her place. The only enemy she manages to defeat on her own is her ArchEnemy Ranamon in a DesignatedGirlFight, and even ''that's'' a tough sell. The single positive step in her development is when she acquires her Beast Spirit and gets upgraded to "somewhat effective" as Zephyrmon.
