* AlternateUniverse: It appears that sometime 1000 years in the past the Earth died. So a man named Y fixed the entire planet using nothing but gears.
* AristocratsAreEvil: Limons is perfectly ready to allow 20 million people to die, just so that he can blame it on Marie Breguel and her family.
* ArmiesAreEvil: The Army is willing to allow 20 million people die just to cover up their mistake. Even when the mistake is fixed, they still continue with the Purge just to cover up any evidence of said mistake. They are also willing to purge an entire city on the belief that a secret ''might'' get out.
* AsYouKnow: The first part of Chapter 1 has a class lecture revealing how the Clockwork Planet came to be.
* BookDumb: Naoto has little (who are we kidding he has no) interest in his school studies (aside from keeping his attendance record spotless). However he can build an robot from nothing but spare parts and fixed multiple machines deemed impossible just by listening for the parts that weren't working.
* BrilliantButLazy: Naoto is definitely this. He has the unique ability to [[SuperSenses hear the very gears that make up Ryuzu and their planet]], but is content with wasting his time wearing headphones (though this is probably yo keep him from listening to the gears constantly) and lavishing in Ryuzu's attention.
* BrokenPedestal: Discussed by Halter towards Marie, who states that if a member of the Guild saw her acting like a spoiled princess (which she does in private) they would faint.
* ChildProdigy: Marie and Naoto.
* ClarkKenting: Marie's is so bad it makes Clark Kent's glasses disguise a step up. When she fakes her death and becomes an OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent, she doesn't change her appearance in any way and doesn't hide her prodigy status (which clearly draws in a lot of attention. Even one of the students pointed out she looks just like her. The only thing she changes is her last name. She seems to solely rely on people thinking that she's dead as her main disguise.
* ClockPunk: An entire flipping Planet of it.
* ClockworkCreature: Ryuzu, [=AnchoR=], and the rest of the Y Series automata.
* ComplimentBackfire[=/=]StealthInsult: Ryuzu seems to be the master at this. She later reveals it is because she was never installed with a Audio Filter.
** Actually, she was. It takes everything she tries to say and turns it into biting sarcasm. [[HilarityEnsues Ryuzu is unaware of this.]]

** Marie and Halter seem to walk across Naoto and Ryuzu by pure luck.

* FlashStep: Ryuzu is able to move her giant scythe so fast that even in a crowded classroom with a teacher keeping a close eye on them is unable to see her use it to destroy any pieces of chalk from hitting Naoto.
* ForegoneConclusion: Chapter 1 ends with a flash to 30 days in the future. So we know full well until that point none of the four will die till that point.
* FourEyesZeroSoul: Limons reveals his true scumbag intentions and nature to Marie in private, as detailed in {{Scapegoat}} below.
* GeniusDitz: Naoto can build a clockwork robot by hand and repair one in three hours that Clockwork Masters never could, but seems to have zero interest in anything that is not related to something with gears. To the point he didn't recognize Marie, despite her having been on the cover of a magazine he always buys.
* GiantRobot: [[spoiler: It seems like the Army is building a really huge robot out of the cities that have been purged. Using the gears from said cities for spare parts.]]
* GoodIsNotSoft: Marie is not above threatening the person she is interrogating with death or even the idea of killing the person's family to get them to talk. She would never do it but she puts on a very convincing act.
* TheGreatestStoryNeverTold: Marie wants to invoke this. She wants Naoto, Ryuzu, her body guard and herself to go out and reveal the conspiracy that is still going on. She knows full well that they will never be known for stopping it or their involvement but wants to do it simply because GoodFeelsGood.
* GreenEyedMonster: The entire male side of Naoto's school is clearly jealous that the lovely Ryuzu is giving him so much attention.
** Then the entire student body towards him when he is so casually friendly with the prodigy Marie.
** Ryuzu seems to suffer this anytime Naoto shows interest in ''any'' machine other than her. Even once getting jealous when Naoto showed interest in a tower.
* HairOfGoldHeartofGold: Marie has the hair part going for her - the "heart" part... [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold depends on her mood.]]
* HappinessInSlavery: Ryuzu believes she exists solely to serve the one she sees as her master.
* HeroicBSOD: Marie is being hit hard with this after [[spoiler: she believes she got Naoto and Ryuzu killed and her actions to stop the Army has only made things worse]].
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Anytime Naoto talks about himself it's usually this. Ryuzu tries to cheer him up by stating how only he could fix her. However, due to the fact that she has no filter her compliments often [[ComplimentBackfire don't help much]].
* HopeSpot: The Guild manages to fix the gravitational problems just in time to stop the purge. Only for the Army to cause the purge anyway to hide the evidence of their mistake.
* KillEmAll: The army's plan to deal with anyone finding out of their plans. They are willing to purge an entire city just to keep their secrets hidden.
* KillThePoor: It is quite clear that The Purge has this as an added bonus to the ones involved. As they made sure to evacuate the rich and powerful but did not reveal the severity of the problem to the normal citizens.
* LapPillow: Ryuzu offers her lap to Naoto as a pillow for him to sleep. He was hesitant at first but accepts and falls asleep. Only to be cut short due to a strong earthquake.
* LecherousLicking: Ryuzu does this when registering Naoto as her master.
* LoveHotel: After Naoto'so house is destroyed Ryuzu finds a suitable and affordable place to stay turns out to be this. Naoto, knowing how much trouble he would get into if he was caught going into one of these with a pretty girl would get him, decides on a Manga Cafe instead.
* MisplacedRetribution: Lampshaded in Chapter 11. When Ryuzu insults Marie she starts to argue with Naoto over being insulted. He asks why she's attacking him, to which she answers is because she can't attack Ryuzu without being killed.
* NewTransferStudent: Ryuzu and Marie become this. Halter takes it one step further and becomes a New Transfer Teacher.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: It would appear that Marie exposing the Purge of Tokyo and causing people to lose faith in the government only made the Army step up their plans.
* NonIdleRich: Marie is the daughter to one of the richest families in the world and is also the youngest member of the Guild. She is even willing to give it all up without a moments hesitation to do what is right.
* ObliviouslyEvil: The Army seems to not understand why one of their own would try to stop the Purge from happening.
* OjouRinglets: [[TheOjou Marie]] has these, of course.
* OnlySaneMan: Halter frequently comes off as this, notably when compared to [[{{Robosexual}} Naoto]] [[GeniusDitz Miura]], [[{{Yandere}} Ryuzu]], and [[SpoiledBrat Marie]].
* RaceAgainstTheClock: The first few chapters has the Meister Guild racing to repair the gravitation towers in Japan before they shut down and kill 20 million people. They succeeded but the Army decides to cause it anyway so as to erase any evidence.
* RidiculouslyHumanRobot: Ryuzu as well as any other Automaton. It is suggested that none of Naoto's classmates are aware that Ryuzu is a robot.
* {{Robosexual}}: It is made quite clearly in Chapter 5 that Naoto has no interest in human women, such as Marie. In fact after Ryuzu pulled a TimeStop, he asks her to marry him and becomes excited at finding out that Ryuzu has a little sister.
* {{Scapegoat}}: Limons and the Army plan to use the Meister Guild (mainly Marie) as one when the Purge happens.
* SceneryPorn: The manga loves to show off the planet made entirely of clockwork gears.
* SkewedPriorities: After something crashed into his house, Naoto is more worried at the fact he dropped his magazine in the bathtub.
** Then played for Drama immediately after. Despite his house falling all around him he can't help but want to fix Ryuzu.
** Now it is pretty much a trait of Naoto. Naoto seems to be more interest in trying to get Ryuzu to admit she has feelings for him than the fact his city is about to be destroyed. Marie even calls him out on this.
* SubmissiveBadass: As powerful as Ryuzu is, she is bound to serve her master Naoto.
* SuperSenses: Naoto has Super Hearing, not only is he able to hear a malfunction from far distances, he is even able to pinpoint where it is. He usually wears noise canceling headphones to block most of it out.
* SweetTooth: Marie is constantly eating sweets.
* TakenALevelInBadass: Naoto in Chapter 2 when he went out of his way to get some creeps to stop harassing Ryuzu. Even he was shocked at what he was doing.
* TakeThatAudience: A funny one. In Chapter 5 instead of given a RecapEpisode of the last four chapters, it just blatantly tells the readers to go back and read the past four chapters.

* TimeStandsStill: Ryuzu can do this with her Imaginary Gear. She's the '''weakest''' of all her sisters.
* TwentyMinutesIntoTheFuture: Ironically since it is stated to be 1000 years in the future. Everything is essentially the same as it is today but with gears and ClockworkCreature being common.
* UndyingLoyalty: Ryuzu to Naoto. As far as she's concerned, she exists solely for him and everything else in the world is trash.
** Takes the trope to it's literal meaning when the gear maintaining her life is necessary to protect him. She kills herself without hesitation. She gets better, being a repairable robot, but how quickly she does it is almost terrifying.
* VillainousBreakdown: Marie imagines Limons having one after she fakes her death and therefore he has no scapegoat. Which then seems to play out as she predicted when he is left in a vegetative state after a breakdown caused when she revealed evidence of his involvement.
* {{Yandere}}: Ryuzu comes off as the protective version, since he's the only thing she cares about at all. She also gets jealous of anything that steals Naoto's attention. The Clocktower is one thing (since they're both automatons) but a ''ceiling stain''?
