And then there came a time when they decided to take over other planets for their resources. It was an easy touch and go for countless millennia. No matter what the world, or the opposition, they fell to the superior technology and biology of the gem empire. In time, it also became necessary, as building gems took lots of natural resources. Their needs overwrote whatever life was around them.

However, one diamond was dissatisfied. Pink Diamond, rather than thinking about doing what would be best for the empire, was all about her desires instead. "I want my own army! I want my own planet! I'm just as important as you!" And the consequences for this would ripple far beyond what was expected.

This is stressed starting from the top. How? Homeworld society. Homeworld was structured as a caste system so that every gem had a singular purpose in life, and every gem knew its place. Diamonds rule, lazulis terraform, rubies fight as foot soldiers, etc. In this sense, a gem had no need for personal desires. Indeed, such a thing would seem ludicrous to have a desire for anything but your work pleasing the diamonds.

!! So, you want to watch Steven Universe...
WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse is a great series, but it's prone to ContinuityLockout for the newcomers, and frankly, some episodes are weaker than others (however, the creators have stated that there are no (literal) filler episodes, as "worldbuilding done right takes time!"). With that in mind, we're rating each episode on a 1-4 scale (no half-ratings are allowed), as follows:

#Not recommended. This is an episode that can be freely skipped without missing anything.
#Optional. These episodes may be enjoyable to some, but can be skipped if need be.
#Recommended. While not essential to follow the main storyline, it is still a good episode in its own right and should be watched.
#Essential. This episode is plot-critical and cannot be skipped to keep up with the series.

So, without spoiling anything, here's our ratings!

#"Stuck Together" (4): An episode that not only follows up on the season 4 finale, but is the first episode to show us, if only very briefly, a location that has been hinted at since almost the beginning of the show. On top of all that, TONNES of character development for every character involved. In case you hadn't already guessed, this episode is absolutely unskippable.

%%Do !!

While
not essential to follow the main storyline, it is still a good episode in its own right and should be watched.
#Essential. This episode is plot-critical and cannot be skipped to keep up with the series.

So, without spoiling anything, here's our ratings!

#Recommended. While not essential to follow the main storyline, it is still a good episode in its own right and should be watched.
#Essential. This episode is plot-critical and cannot be skipped to keep up with the series.
