Aside from rarer powerups being more advanced, different ''kinds'' of powerups tend to be in different rarities. Thus, players can go in entirely different directions in spending the money they earn, whether they grab plenty of passive upgrades and easy-to-use items, or save up for Rare and Epic powerups just to see how well they can perform with such. To this end, however, simpler powerups often stand out [[BoringButPractical in terms of practicality and cost-effectiveness]], which some other powerups sacrifice for the fun of unconventional gameplay.

Most powerups in the Ball Pit bonus stage exist across four different rarities. The table below is a complete assemblage of the powerups, their respective rarities (if any), and several broad function archetypes (which uniquely aren't used for [[ColourCodedForYourConvenience color-coding]]).

The Common rarity has many simple ball-manipulating items, and it encompasses all basic defense and mobility items (except Fade). None are especially powerful, but they're meant as simple ways to get players out of a pinch.

The Uncommon rarity contains the bulk of lasting upgrades and simpler attacks, along with the likes of Converge and Redirect as stronger ways of directing one's allied balls.

The Rare rarity is noteworthy for its more advanced attacks and having a slight majority of [[NonDamagingStatusInflictionAttack Non-Damaging Status Infliction Attacks]]. The latter are the more difficult to use effectively against a vigilant opponent, despite being reusable.

The Epic rarity has many upgrades that are either powerful or [[AwesomeButImpractical impractical]], due to the flashiest mechanics being lumped into the most expensive rarity.
